  • Welcome back to our RUclips channel, Wandering Wagners! We bought our 2020 Nexus Wraith 34W in May of 2020 and ever since we have been getting questions about why we traded from an Airstream to a motorhome/Super C RV.
    But first it has been raining so much that we decided not to camp because even our yard and garden is FLOODED! July usually isn't this wet but this year it is different. Rain rain go away we say!
    Since we are at our homebase, we decided to do the One Year Review of our 2020 nexus Wraith 34W that we have been meaning to do since May 2021.
    We got questions over the past year that we wanted to answer. Mike was asked a lot of is it easier or harder/the same to travel in a motorhome or a pick up truck and a trailer. We both agreed that the motorhome is the way to go for traveling! It is so easy to set up camp, break camp, stay overnight in a parking lot, or just travel down the road with full access to the pantry, bathroom, and we can even watch TV!
    We listed some of the likes and dislikes we both have with the Nexus Wraith 34W. We love the amount of storage overall and the laundry with the on board generator! I mean, we can do laundry while going down the road!! Doesn't get much better than that.
    Mike secon'd the outdoor storage, and he also loves the International Chassis, with the Cummins engine, and Alison Transmission. Power pairs for sure!
    What we don't like are the light colored, and hard to clean texture of the floors, the equalizer hydraulic leveling system, or the steps that Nexus puts on their Super C RV's. We both with we had the stock international steps that cam with the chassis.
    Overall we would buy this super C RV again, and are happy with it. We have done a lot of modifications and fixes, but that's to be expected in any RV and for the pricetag, it was a great buy for us.
    Next, Mike did a fix to the cab/chassic bolts. I'm sure you've noticed over the months that it has been getting progressively squeakier and squeakier, and it has been really annoying, so for that we are sorry! Luckily just a few bucks and hours later Mike had it all bolted back together and ready for a test drive. It wasn't perfect, but it was so much better than it was last weekend!
    Overall we had a very productive weekend and we are planning to camp this weekend to celebrate Lynn's birthday! 🥳

    So nice to hear someone else who is happy with their Wraith. Only had mine since last fall and haven't been out much. My last rv was a 40 foot Winnebago and it took all 5 years to get it right, so even though many people rave about Winnebago, I don't want another one. Can't wait until the meetup in August, to finally meet you after following you since before I bought my Wraith.

    To be honest, your Super C is starting to work on my wife and I as far as moving up to one. We've been pretty "anti-motor" for years, as we've watched people with the ginormous 40+ foot motor homes try to wedge into spots that just weren't made for something that size, but yours seems to be much more manageable. For two retired people like us, it's also a great size! I'm just shocked to hear your not trading it yet! I thought before I watched this that this was going to be your announcement on your next rig! If you're that happy with it, (and Nexus,) it must be good!!

    • @WanderingWagners

    Love the video, I recently went from a gas powered class A (Windsport 35M) to a 2023 Nexus Wraith 34W. I will say I love the improvement in towing and ride quality and I noticed a few differences in my 34W from yours. My 2023 has a stainless residential style fridge but most of the other appliances look similar or the same. I notice the exterior storage compartments are slightly different on mine also where most of them swing out from the side rather than upwards like yours. We have two older teenagers (17 & 15) and my wife and I bought this to do some road trips with them before they fly the nest and hopefully in a few years we'll be traveling and working remotely at least half the time. I did buy ours with the Liquid spring system already installed based completely off your video of when you got yours installed, so thanks for the video on that! So far we love ours, we've only put about 3,000 miles on ours in a few months and half of that was just driving it home but I am hopeful we're just as happy with ours as you are with yours.

    • @WanderingWagners
      @WanderingWagners  Год назад +1

      That's awesome! We will be doing a 3 year update video as well very soon because we've now owned it 3 years... Crazy! Love that you got liquid spring and we wish it was offered when we found it but hey we worked hard to get every wraith and triumph with the 18,500lb springs from the factory so that in itself was an upgrade from what we originally had😂 we've also considered changing out our doors for the side hinged ones (should have been that from the beginning but oh well) 😁

    I hear you on the rain. Down here in SE Florida we have had nonstop rain on every day I had time to cut the grass at the rental house. We have a lawn service at our home but not at the rental as I use that as an opportunity to check on the house and the care the renters are maintaining on the house. I finally got it cut yesterday. It was so long up past my knees in the backyard and calf high in the front. I ended up having to weed whack first cuz the rider kept getting clogged every 8-12 feet cuz it was still so wet cuz it was so long and the sun couldn't dry it out. Once I weed whacked I raked the yard and then cut it with the rider. It literally took all day cuz it's just under an acre. I'm rethinking the lawn service at the rental.

    • @WanderingWagners
      @WanderingWagners  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, we could have bailed the grass clippings and it kept stalling out the rider because it was so tall and wet but it needed cut! Pulled weeds in the garden that were overtaking it but luckily the weeds were fairly easy to pull out because the ground was literally mud haha

    We own a Newmar Baystar Class A and really like it, however we just spent a week in Elkhart and stopped by Nexus and we had such great experience and factory tour including driving a Wraith. Bryan Walczak , regional Sales Manager took 2 hours out of his busy day to spend with us ! He showed us everything , he answered all of our questions , he was fantastic and listened. I went in wanting to look at a Ghost and left saying the Wraith was the right fit for us! PS they upped their suspension to 18k , took out the bottoming on bumps, very nice ride and the coach was a blast to drive compared to our class A. Great company and we are considering our options because of their passion about their product, thanks for the videos!

    Thanks for the information. Iam looking to buy in the future. I'm looking at the ghost. Some people are saying the quality is lacking because of the rush during covid. I'm glad to see that most fixes are pretty easy, and that there is no major flaws. You did change the springs in the rear but the ghost has air ride. I like the extra power in the ghost. I plan to pull a jeep also, so seeing that 300 hp cummins is good, makes me fill better.

    • @WanderingWagners
      @WanderingWagners  3 года назад +1

      If you are handy you should be able to fix things yourself fairly easily. Keep Ann eye out for leaks at connections in the plumbing, we had several when we first got it. After fixing them it's been all good on that front since then. We love pulling our Jeep and the Wraith didn't miss a beat in the Eastern or Western mountains.

    Love you guys. Unlike so many, (especially couples) you're not tedious, obnoxious or boring. Just watched your 1 year review of your Wraith. Like the comments regarding the super C versus an A motorhome. Ok it's great that you like the look - hey I'm a trucker, but there is so much more to be said. #1 is the safety factor. Ever seen a A that rear ended another truck at high speed? Yeah, right in your face! If it's the bus style, (diesel pusher) the only door is ahead of the wheels making it even worse. I doubt the the front end of any A has nearly the structural integrity of the cab of a super C, aside from the lack of any structure ahead of the windshield. You also have the convenience of a passenger and driver door with fully retracting power windows. It's a more natural driving style with the front wheels ahead of the cab. I drove a flat nose 33 passenger bus, and turning corners is quite different when the front wheels are behind you. Anyway, have watched and enjoyed many of your videos, and learned a few things along the way. Watch out for those soft shoulders at the campsite. Pat

    I own a Nexus 32W. I had it built for us and picked up in Elkhart in April 2018. I have 35,000 miles on it.
    I had Liquid Springs pick up the vehicle in Elkhart and install their product in Lafayette, Illinois before taking ownership from Nexus.
    The International chassis is great no complaints. The fit and finish on the motor home is not great.
    The Liquid Springs works great, as does our Big Foot hydraulics leveling system.
    Nexus was good through the one year warranty period. After that they never responded to any calls or questions.
    All in all we are very happy with the coach. It will be our last coach.

    I just watched your video. Well done. I bought a Nexus Ghost 36DS brand new 3 years ago (2019) because it has a 20,000 lb rated trailer hitch and is under 37' long. Its a great layout and fits inside my garage with room to spare. It has rear air ride, air brakes, and the larger Cummings engine. I pull a 16,000 pound race car trailer with it over the California grades and it tows great up and down the hills. After I bought mine I've seen others showing up at the races with them as well because of the hitch and truck rating. We love it. I've previously owned 4 different NRC conversion toterhomes with Freightliner Columbia and M1 chassis and I was a little concerned about making the switch to an International Truck but I have to be honest... I like the International a lot better than the Freightliner. The dash layout, controls, quality, the fact that the cab air conditioner actually cools the cab, the International truck service department experience when it's time for oil changes compared to Freightliner, etc., is much better. We've never regretted our decision to buy it. 21,000 miles so far. Like you, we made some upgrades. We changed out two of the four TV'S it came with with Samsung QLED smart TV'S with wifi and Bluetooth, I added a tire pressure monitoring system, I installed a smart surge protector that detects over or under voltage including ground faults to protect the motorhome electronics (has already paid for itself at a campground we stayed at in Utah where the 50 amp campground connection was wired totally wrong). By the way. We have a slightly darker floor, slightly darker upholstery and a dog. After seeing your video I'm thinking that was probably a good move after all!

    • @WanderingWagners
      @WanderingWagners  2 года назад +1

      Definitely the right choice with the darker floors! We wish ours were darker. If we keep this rig long enough we might even change the floors for something different. We haven't ever kept something long enough to remodel or change things but we might actually keep this one awhile!

Almost all of the lines are inside and we've camped in 0 degrees without issues thus far. We wanted a rig where we could camp year round and we found it, even if we had to add the space heater to the dump bay ourselves it's worth it. We get 8-9 mpg towing the loaded Jeep

    Congratulations on 15,000 miles in your first year with the Wraith. That is very impressive. Ignore those who would talk down on one brand or another. We are in the process of buying our fourth motor home. We’ve owned a Coachman, Alpine, Monaco, and now going to a Renegade. Each has its pros and cons. In the end we each find what we like, what we don’t like, and what works with our budget. Go with what works for you and then rock it like you are doing. I’m guessing not a single person talking down on the Nexus has ever come close to 15,000 miles on their RV in one year. I love your content. Keep it coming!

    I have had Motorhomes all my life and have loved them
    For “handy” you can’t beat them. I have looked at these and really liked them but the Steps I saw immediately and wondered if I ordered one if I could order the stock freight liner steps that would be enough to make me order it and a darker floor and lighter cabinets I like lighter cabinets so I would just flip it and have light cabinets dark floor and I love the storage in the washer and dryer and I’m thinking about snowboarding in at where I’m gone you know 67 months out of the year and I think this 34 is a great deal and I am like you I can’t spend hundreds of millions of dollars I just need something that I actually can buy and I’m grateful for the price range of the nexus I think if people think about there be more buying this. There’s not a mechanic out there that would rather work on the Freightliner chassis then a class a motorhome everything is exposed it’s no sweat if you pay less hourly what rate that’s a good thing

    • @WanderingWagners
      @WanderingWagners  2 года назад

      They have other color options but this is what was available on the dealers lot when we bought. We love the dark cabinets though! Just wish the floors were maybe a gray or something. Cream isn't a great color for a camping rig haha.
      Nexus is on an International chassis, not a Freightliner but you're right, you'll always find a place to work on this rig over a class A!

Went from a 30ft or so Keystone passport, traded that in in less than a year, bought a 2018 Rockwood 8327ss and loved it but as kids get older they apparently need more room because watching movies sitting on the dinette table made into a bed just sucks lol. Now just took delivery of a 2021 Prime Time Crusader 382MBH 5th wheel and holy crap is it big at 43ft long but it's the perfect floor plan for us right now. I installed a Pioneer Mini-Split 24K BTU with Heat in my big shop and the only regret is that I didn’t do it 3 years sooner! No more rusty tools or problems with things staying damp since I live in Louisiana.
    I’ve been on the fence about the Nexus because of all the badmouthing people do and I’m going to rethink things a bit because I’d rather get into a SuperC than a Class A and currently I can get some really awesome 2-3 year old Tiffin Allegro or Phaeton’s for less than $200k. I guess some people are fine with spending +30% to not have to deal with the items that you’ve mentioned, but I’d feel weird if I bought something that I didn’t have to eventually work on a little! Haha. One thing you pointed out was the hydraulic brakes on the Nexus vs air brakes and I totally missed that but agree that’s not that big of a deal than most people make it out to be and the Liquid Springs addition I can attest too because my brother-in-law added them to his RV that had a supposedly great ride system and it was truly shocking how much it improved the ride and handling of his ClassA!

    • @WanderingWagners

      We will probably get a mini split for ac in the big garage before summer hits again!
      We have been happy with our Nexus, and pretty much everything you buy will need some repairs almost immediately, especially checking all the lines for leaks. Seems most RVs from every make and model have loose fittings no matter how much you pay! The only exception we've had was the airstream we had was good out of the gate!
      We did get liquid springs installed (and have a few videos of that if you're interested) and liquid spring is now a factory option with new Nexus' which is awesome for new builds!

Sure if your rich and want to impress the rv park you can do so but it’s made to drag around race cars. Your rig is almost perfect for what your needs are. I don’t mind light floors, because you DO see the dirt. You can see to clean, and being tile it’s quick and easy.

    • @WanderingWagners
      @WanderingWagners  3 года назад +1

      I agree with that partially only because our floors aren't tile. They're a weird texture vinyl and it makes it very hard to clean. they almost always look dirty and dingy. I would need to scrub it with a magic eraser every day to keep them looking "clean". I'd rather they be non textured and darker in color or wood colored.

    Hey guys. Great review. Love the Wraith. I drive a Freitliner at work but not a fanboy at all . Only thing good is the Cummins engine. Do they make you get a CDL if your RV has air brakes? Thanks take care.

      Thanks Sean! 😊We do love the Cummins as well. No, air brakes have nothing to do with CDL

    Love the video. My husband and I want to get a Super C in the next few years. We will be going full time. Just curious, have you ever checked the gas mileage? Just wondering what you get as compared to my current Class A which is only about 8/9mpg.

    • @WanderingWagners
      @WanderingWagners  2 года назад +1

      We get around 9 on average while towing the Jeep, fully loaded and always run with full water etc.

    We have a 37' Class A FERD and wish I had a Super C. Mainly because mainenance on the engine is a pain to do.
    I do most of it too! But, I built the Coach into what it is. 20 years ago I totally remodeled and repowered to a Hot Rod Diesel Motor with 5 speed Allison Transmission from a 460 EFI Ford gasser and C6 3 speed. Went from 210 HP @ 6 mpg to 450 HP @ 13.5 MPG. I've owned it since 1995. And have over 110,000 miles on it. So I guess a Super C is not going to happen, unless I wreck this one.
    And the thing I like most about Motorcoaches over camping in Travel Trailers is, since I do all of the driving, I like to pull into rest stops when I get tired. Take a shower and then get a quick nap in my own bed without having to ever leave the Coach.
    Plus my wife will bring me a bowl of ice cream when we are trucking across the desert. Sure makes a difference because it's always like being in a fish bowl with all the glass around me on a 115 degree day.
    If I had it to do over I'd go with a Super C rather than remodel and repower the one we have. But, it's been a 30+ year hobby of mine, so I can't complain. I'm a Gearhead and I like More Power! I also have a custom built 4X4 Rock Crawler. It's an Isuzu, not a Jeep! Loads of fun being that odd ball guy.
    Good Video Guys.

      That's very cool that you did all that to your class A! We are happy with the super c and think we made the right choice vs a class a. We also love being able to park and never leave the coach! It's especially nice if it's raining and with the dogs.😊 Thank you for sharing your insight!

    Hi Lynn and Mike love the videos. We are both local truck drivers our last 3 units were 5th wheels and we had TT before that. I'm trying to convince my hubby into a Super C I love them, I not a International fan we have them at my company front end shake is bad but we use painted rims. I drive a KW and hubby drives a Volvo. How do you feel about the build quality it is always my concern with lower cost models. I think the Renegade is out of our budget as well. Do you feel like you are always fixing when you're not camping. We rarely go and come back without having to fix things or upgrade. This is our only hobby so I don't mind upgrades, it the broken things that upset us. We have a 2018 Cedar Creek monstrosity.

      I think the overall quality of the materials used is good. When we brought it home we garage camped and ran it through the paces and found and fixed a bunch of water leaks at the connections. Once we got the new RV bugs worked out, it's been pretty good! The work we do to it is things we want to upgrade like the tank monitoring system, water pump, hard wired surge protector, mattress etc etc. If you're handy, it shouldn't be a problem to keep on top of maintenance and enjoy the RV the rest of the time
