      @@sansay7226 He means burn-in. And while it can happen on LCDs, It's a more common problem with OLED screens. It's when an image stays on the screen for too long and leaves a faded version of whatever was on the screen. There's no fix for this other than replacing the screen.

    I have once developed apps for BadaOS before. It was a horrible experience. The editor itself crashes/halts whenever there's slightest mistake made. It tooks me 10x the time just to write a simple notes app than doing the same thing on Android/iOS at the time. I believe that's one of the reasons there's a lack of app support for BadaOS. In spite of that, the overall architecture is well designed and more efficient than Android at the time. It used a stripped version of C++ instead of Java, which is much more mobile friendly and battery saving. It's almost as good as iOS except for the ugly user interface. Another downside that failed BadaOS is not open sourced, so that means Samsung is the only one using it. Bada lacks somethings called Hardware Abstraction Layer in which manufacturers could close source their device driver. Making Android applicable for all manufacturers. I guess Bada started out as something more like iOS instead of Android.

      Why did Symbian fail?

    • @stormfall1130
      @stormfall1130 4 года назад +3

      @@lifeisshrt7929 there are many reasons:
      1.There weren't many apps compared to iOS or Android .
      2.The looks felt outdated,the design looked ancient but the home screen looked great though
      3.The nokia story's applications for Symbian were very slow and laggy.
      4.Their browser was very outdated and was very slow at loading web pages.
      5.Symbian was slow and not frequently updated like Android or iOS

    • @NijntjeMegen
      @NijntjeMegen 4 года назад +1

      @@stormfall1130 It's simpler than that. Symbian in Nokia was killed off by MS buying the company and switching to Windows Phone, which took 3 years to be any good and by then lost critical mass in the app store. Without Nokia, Symbian lost a huge market share which also lost its status as a 'default platform'. Microsoft killed off Symbian as well as Windows Phone. In 2010, this Samsung and a Finnish C7-00 could match an IPhone 4 and an Android flagship. Imagine if today's choice wasn't limited to just 2 American OS. The Lumia 950 XL from 2015 still has a better camera and better screen than 2020 flagships. Such a shame.

    I used to own the Wave 2. I agree with every last thing Arun said in the video. My main reason for switching the phone was APPS. WhatsApp was unavailable, even though they promised to get WhatsApp on the platform. That was the biggest deal-breaker for me at that time as I was in college and was very dependent on chatting with my classmates/friends. Otherwise, the 5MP camera was phenomenal for its time, although the camera app too was pretty lacking. You couldn't take a picture without pressing the camera button that was on the right side of the phone. After my camera button got spoiled, the people weren't able to repair it, thus making my camera practically redundant. That was another reason that I had to switch the phone in just over a year (which I never do, as at that time I used to use my phone for at least two to three years).

I got this phone not long after launch, the screen was fantastic on it, the best I'd seen at the time - I think it was one of the first Super AMOLEDs. The metal body felt fantastic, but I was totally gutted that I could barely find any software for it.

    Yeah but Samsung is the main phone in Android, the leading phone.
    Even with Google owning it, so you would expect the Pixel to be the main phone.

    So without Samsung, Android wouldn't have survived.

      This. Also I think Samsung thinks and acts for their long term. Joining open source Android benefits companies like Samsung, LG, Moto because you get crowd sourced development. BUT I can see Samsung going back to their own OS in the future. They already have their own app store (Galaxy Store) that has most of the popular apps on it.

      I see that too but an OS involves so much more than an app store.

    • @VeggiePopper
      @VeggiePopper 4 года назад +2

      Android didn't became big, nor remins big because of Samsung, but DESPITE SAMSUNG. Until a few years ago, Samsung's UI TouchWiz was considered the worst Android version. TouchWiz was laggy, slow, unorganized, and full of bloatware. There's a reason for the fan nickname "LagWiz". Even to this day, after removing most of the bloatware and even renaming the UI in an attempt to shake the bad fame off, people still (erroneously) see Samsung's software as the one weak point in their devices. And Android being an operative system, i.e., software, TouchWiz negatively impacted Android rather than push it.
      Second, the company that gave Android its start and rise to fame was HTC; Samsung had nothing to to with it. The very first Android device was an HTC - the HTC Dream, and it was HUGE. To the point that when people say they miss HTC, they don't - HTC didn't lay off or just killed off its mobile division, they gave it away to Google. So the people currently developing Google's Pixel series is mostly the same people that 10 years ago brought us the first Android phone. HTC and, to an extent, Sony's Xperia series (back when it was Sony Ericsson and still a top seller) were the ones who made Android big.
      Even before Android, Google was already a giant in the technology industry, and them being the owners to RUclips (probably the biggest platform for content and media in the 21st century) was enough to guarantee success to any device preloaded with and natively running the app.
      Finally, by the time Samsung released their Galaxy series and the Wave smartphone, Android was 2 years old and already a *default* platform (i.e., they were already a giant in the OS business). This is even mentioned in the video, how could you ignore that?
      Thus, Google doesn't own Android's success to Samsung as a company nor the Galaxy S series at all. Software-wise, it was the OS's openess to customization and having instant access to RUclips and all other Google apps; and hardware-wise, it was thanks to big companies such as HTC and Sony Ericsson's choice to band with Android instead of Symbian or Windows Phone.
      If anything, without Samsung, Android wouldn't have died by any chance - maybe the opposite (Samsung might have been the ones who failed and Android would be even more successful thanks to not have its image tainted by Samsung's terrible UI as its main representative). Instead, without Samsung working with Google, the possible outcomes I assume we have had would be:
      1. Samsung fails and follows down Nokia's/Windows Phone's path;
      2. Without Samsung being the so-called Android king, people and the media drool over some other company's shenanigans - my guess is Sony, LG or HTC; these three companies are known for their wild ideas and attempts to innovate, so without Samsung setting up the rules, it would be these ideas the ones to become the new standards (maybe all highend phones would have 4k displays as the Sony Z5, or focus in audio instead or cameras, like the HTC Mk7-9 or LG V series); or
      3. Let's say Bada still made it big (despite having ZERO developer support, but let's ignore that and assume they still made it), then instead of having two contestants in the mobile OS market, we have three - iOS, Android, and Bada. I'd say that in this scenario, Huawei would side with Samsung's Bada now that they have been banned from doing business with Google. But definitely Android would still be around and as strong as it is.
