I'm gonna have to look into taking these approaches because one of my biggest fears about approaching someone with a wall of text has been the potential to overwhelm them or something; all of my approaches about this type of thing have just started with a "Hi!" and a wait for a response lol Thanks for the advice!
I'd like to say my own thing on the "hey can we be friends" stuff specifically real quick just as like...an extra proof that you can make friends by simply being around and interacting with them a bunch, even if you didn't know each other before. I used to be really anxious about talking to people, especially people who play big roles in the communities I'm in (such as Mod roles, working on mods I'm a fan of etc) Hell, I'd say I still am. Well, I managed to make friends with a few mods and even directly speak to the Owner after joining the vcs they were in a lot. I never used to speak too much, but they knew me because I was there, listening. After a bit, I got comfortable, started talking more and eventually verbally spoke in the vcs. Now we're real good friends, and all that was done over the course of at least 2 years. They've taught me some general things about certain topics like art and music, and I feel extremely comfortable around those people plus I've made good friends in that community. All this is to basically say, you can do it. You can make friends, even if you feel like you can't.
As an FNF musician, even though I have a pretty small fan base, I still get these kinds of DM’s from people. And most of the time, I reject their offer because most of what my fans ask me to do is either something I’m not interested, not worth my time, or they provide little to no detail It also puts a lot on my shoulders because with the little time I have to be online, I’m always like “I spent 10 minutes trying to get this person to say something” It’s pretty hard to deal with
as another FNF musician, i actually have the same issue as you do right now. pretty hard to manage all the requests and focusing on lots of fnf mods/collabs at once
@@HYP3RHyper Never saw it that way.... I always feel bad asking (I've never been able to get people to help me) because that's using THEIR time for your pipe dream. I didn't know it felt like that so I'll just find a good friend who's a good musician instead of asking random people to invest in you.
From what little I know you from our online chats and your channel, I really appreciate the down to earth, genuinely helpful and benevolent person that you are. Cheers, man. 👏

Hey, I can relate. I’m trying my hardest to be careful online, but then I end up being misunderstood. Even if I’m trying to keep things civil between everybody, they always take what I say the other way and that gets me in trouble for no good reason. But I’m still trying to be my best self. I’m saying this because now that I’m making my channel related to stuff I love doing (and that could even involve FNF mods), I’m gonna try to be a better person online, and try to help other people as well. Honestly, I don’t know what else to say at this point. I’ve probably said enough, and I don’t want this message to be super long. But I’m learning some music as well, and I could use the help… not that I’m asking you for it personally. I know about the free music lessons. But if I need you for something, I’ll let you know… anyway, thanks for the advice!
this video was really helpful, tho in a kinda offtopic reason for me. I tend to work alone, because I dread that aspect of "what I do can affect others". I have... a very debatable self-discipline (to say none) and I am overstressed with deadlines or having to be in a rythm that is too fast for me (I tend to work very slowly, and the non existent self discipline mean that I work when I am aren't too stressed to do it, so it's very random, and very unreliable). so working with peoples feel like it's not something I can do in a healthy way. so i'll stick to be a loner, and trying to do the very, very wise things of trying to master every aspect of a mod/story production by myself. but those bullet point you presented are things I should keep in mind even if I don't intend of joining a team/working of someone. so thanks! your videos are always instructive.

Anyways I can't wait for your next releases!
Regardless if you already know this or not, this video is a great reminder. Even if I'm not doing any creative work at the moment, these tips for the future. Thank you!
I WISH someone had made this video back when I first started making things online, both sides of it are so important. My brand does, though, contain a fuckload of cursing.
Honestly, this isn't just about that. It's a problem among the FNF Community, like... all of the times in which I have been asked to work on a mod it has been 'Would you like to work on my mod?" like- you gotta tell me about it upfront, I don't even know what the mod is about. The only times I think it's fine is if it's from a friend.
I know this was a year ago but a question I have from watching this is if someone sent you an audio file of a completed song they made and asked for advice on how to make it better would you actually do it? I’m working on nerdcore songs now and I think it’s okay but I feel like I can do better.
This video is exactly what i do. I get dms from people asking me to work on their mod with no info. If i join a mod i give examples of both my art and music. great video.
I’ve thought of wanting to go to you for a collab but as you said, people may not need my work at that moment. Especially since I’m a saxophonist who would work with someone that writes rock and heavy metal music. Though if you actually needed someone like this, I’m available for it and will try to bring quality for your needs. Unlike some of the digital music I’ve made.(note: they ain’t good) not asking to collab, but if you actually needed my services, I believe working with you would be absolutely worth it!
I'm not a really popular person but every single time i join an fnf server and i post my music, some people literally go to my dms begging me to work on their mods and commit these mistakes, i obviously decilne those requests, but those who actually offer a really good mod and don't make any mistakes asking me to work on their mod, are really nice, and not only for mods, for collabs in general, this works a lot Thank yo so much for this video, Dean!

yeah, that's true. if they ask you to work on their mods but no more details from them being proven to you, it will be pointless to ask you (they should be proof their skills like Coding, Artist, Composing, or somewhat their skill that may good for it). thank you for this tutorial (actually, I want to collab with you on my mod while my skills is Composer and Charting)
Well, I wanted to contact you because I'm a beginner on the word of musique to have some on the VST but now I release that maybe the best way to evole for everyone is to work on their own and after to ask if they need some advise

To be honest, I'm already confused. If we are talking about collabs in general, then it’s understandable, but (omg now I understand the title of this video, it’s really problematic). Collab is certainly cool but not to the same extent. Collab is primarily teamwork, that is, in this case, "work with the crowd." Take me as an example, in the future I want to create my own games, my fnf mods and of course I can’t do it alone, HOWEVER, this does not mean that some kind of randoms can take part in the development of the game. Either some people will be interested and they will offer or even help with such and such a project, or the person developing this game (or mod, it doesn’t matter) will choose the team members himself, the one he trusts the most. Well, that's me, by the way.
