Well, now you'll have to do "Takin' It To The Streets". One of their best & biggest hits. Michael McDonald has been making us ladies swoon for all these years. The hair & beard are white now but those eyes are still bright blue & that voice is still smooth & soulful.💙☮🥰
Absolutely, Deborah! He's had me swooning for decades. I saw him in 80 and just a couple years ago as a solo act. Michael came to my small town to do a fundraiser concert for our food bank. Still rocking & handsome as ever. 😍😏👩🚒💖
"poop collard greens" - I can't unhear that. Michael McDonald is touring with the Doobies for the 50th anniversary in 2022. Catch the concert if you can.
Back in the day, the Doobie Brothers were touring CONSTANTLY, and I saw them at least 4 or 5 times, both before Michael McDonald joined the band and after.
That " Funky " guitar player is the legendary Jeff (Skunk) Baxter. He was also a member of Steely Dan. He then went on to be a superstar in Rocket science. An amazingly gifted man.
"I Can See Them Firing Up In The Parking Lot"...You're ABSOLUTELY RIGHT,, That's How The Band Got It's Name..In Those Days,, A Blunt/Joint Was Called A "Doobie"
2:17 Michael is going in to start the verse, but he hears Jeff the guitarist do a fill and backs off just a second to let him go. These guys were PRO'S!!
I tell you what, while all these other bands in the '70s were stuntin and going crazy, The Doobie Brothers were just holding it down and being real, and bringing it with every single song. Every single song of theirs reminds me of kicking back in my mom's old Ford Falcon, running down some highway in California just singing with my mama in the car; just some good times you know? Laid back just feelin it, not worrying about anything. That's the real stuff right there.
Seen em live a bunch of times, two drummers and their drum set grew, they had an overhead camera on the drummers...must've been about 60 cymbals and hats on stage. think they were both double bass too.
Oh man, you called me out!!! 😂 I will say that the Studio version has a bit more of a "funk" bite musically, but I still stand by this song 💖. Michael's soulful delivery and the smoothness of the music is phenomenal. I'm so glad you liked it, Van, and glad that you got to see the two sides of the Doobie Brothers (which are both great); Pre and Post Michael MacDonald. NOW I'm going to have to echo Debbie Chang in the comments and suggest you try some 'STEELY DAN" (my favorite group) next; Jazzy, Snarky, Perfection. "Pretzel Logic", "Peg", "Kid Charlemagne" and about 20 others. See, you give us what we want and we just want more, lol; that means you are doing something right!! Great reaction!!
This is such a great song and this is a good performance because we know the song. However for you I feel the studio version would have been the better pick. He takes some liberties in how he's singing here. Definitely go to listen to the studio version after this.
Hilarious that you would bring up smokin' doobies in the parking lot during the Jeff "Skunk" Baxter guitar solo! You have to earn a nickname like "Skunk"....LOL!!!!
I have seen The Doobie Brothers twice and both times there were Rockin' and Killin' it. I have met them as well. They were so humble, kind, and gracious with their time. They truly appreciate and love their fans. Michael McDonald oozes soul!! He's Legendary.
Hey Van, not one of my favorite DB songs but still a good one. I love how you vibe out with these guys. Thanks for checking out my list on the "Black Water" song. I seperated early DB with Tom - then Michael. Can't wait for you to hear why some are Tom purists - while others love what Michael brought to the band later. I love both!! Everyone is gonna keep calling for you to hit Michael's SOLO song "Keep Forgettin". Now THAT'S smooth. I guarantee you'll know it. Warren G & Nate Dogg sampled it (without permission) in "Regulate". 🌟Here's that list again, love: Tom Johnson - Doobie Brothers: "China Grove" "Listen To The Music" "Long Train Runnin" "Black Water" ✔ already done! Michael - Doobie Brothers: "You Belong To Me" "Takin It To The Streets" "Minute By Minute" Michael Solo: "Keep Forgettin" "Yo Mo Be There" w/ James Ingram "On My Own" w/Patty LaBelle "Sweet Freedom"
Hey Van. Good morning. These guys are wonderful. I very very strongly recommend that you check out Steely Dan. Michael McDonald actually did some vocals for them as well. I 100% guarantee you will love them. Rock on🌺✌️
I know that guitarist ;-) Met him in 1998, a friend (singer) I supported introduced us, and we had a good conversation over a few beers. The great Jeff "Skunk" Baxter.
Michael McDonald Doobie Brothers lead singer, eventually goes Solo. This is during a time when music was live and real, no dancers or effects,no auto tune. Just real good music.
The Doobies are a American treasure with material worthy of that designation from before Michael joined them and certainly after he did as well. Top to bottom they are it.
Diggin the old-school Expos hat...But, you can't go wrong with ANY Doobie's song. A band that's a true gift to every music fan's ears. No matter what incarnation of the band you happen to be listening to.
I saw them inside the Oakland coliseum in 1980. The stage was filled with musicians. Michael McDonald was phenomenal. Pat Simmons was flying across the audience on a wire like a wild man. It was definitely right up there on my list of best concerts and I've been to a bunch. I don't know if anyone in the comments experienced Graham's "Day on the Green" outdoor concerts at Oakland where there would be 4 - 5 bands in a day like: Journey, Neil Young, etc. Great memories. Those were THE days! 💋👅💚💚🏟🔥🎹🎷🎻🎶 Real instruments....... pure talent. 😎😁
Seen the Doobies a few times with Chicago. Gone to see Michael solo, he is phenomenal!! 78 I was Sophomore in HS...lol you make feel old, but I'm in good company with Gen 70...😂👍
Tyrone Porter was SO good, so important to the Doobie Brothers sound...Thanks TP...RIP. They were just one of the bands that lit the world on fire 🔥 and have been carrying the musical flame since their start...those that are left and playing.
OmG LFR. I was hooting at the screen. Your reaction was exactly mine when I saw this on Soundstage when it first aired in '77. He was so freaking hot and soulful you just wanted to reach into the screen and grab him! So wonderful to see that people a generation later still appreciate the Doobies. And yeah, this is THE performance. Studio version is great, but this has all the real feels.
This is later Doobie Brothers, the original lead singer is Tom Johnston but they’re both in the band now. I recently bought concert tickets to see them next summer. Can’t wait !! ☮️💜
Michael MacDonald from Ferguson, MO. Pause... Might explain a thing or two. If you listen to his keyboard opening to Minute by Minute, it sounds a little like the run up to the praise section of Sunday morning service. Amen. Yes. I believe he may know something about the Cook Out.
Bad to the bone. He's got some soul in that voice . Fire . Hey bud have you ever played any James Gang. Funk 49?? Joe Walsh first band. Try it out. Great show man!!!
I remember all the great 70s music. I am ten years older than you. ( yes thumbnail is recent LOL ) It was a great time for music. Period. From all genres.
Van, I have been checking out your videos for quite a while, and I have to say I really dig what you do! Your approach and your energy just bring the good mood, even if it's a controversial topic. Keep doing it man! Love to your family!
"MINUTE BY MINUTE" studio version, not live and "TAKING IT TO THE STREETS". Michael McDonald sings backup on these songs. "PEG" - Steely Dan "THIS IS IT"- Kenny Loggins "RIDE LIKE THE WIND"- Christopher Cross.
From Toulouse Street: Mamaloi (Jamaican Bluegrass) Cotton Mouth (Big Band Soul) Jesus is Just Alright With Me (Classic Rock Gospel) Toulouse Street (Psychedelic Swamp Rock)
Not Brothers as in Blood related, but just the name of the Band. I think a few of them are Brothers in Christ though. Such a great "Classic Rock" Band that started in the early 70s.
The 70's ? Made EVERYBODY Smile & We ALL Were Tight.... So Miss It. A Much Better World.....
Gotta do "I Keep Forgetting" by Michael McDonald next or the "Taking it to the streets" live video, his voice is just unreal.
1982 version (live in Santa Barbara) is the best one!
Of Takin it to the Streets, I mean...
@@SK-lk3iu Totally agree, thats by far the best version!
Michael was great. I still prefer the Doobies with Tom Johnston... just say'n 😏👍
I thought so, that why us guys thought he was too cool for school and didn't give him credit 😎
My favorite Doobie Brothers song ! Love Michaels voice .
One of my favorite Michael And Doobies is REAL LOVE...
“ Takin’ It to the Streets” is Michaels Civil Rights anthem. It’s epic and a gospel banger.
"poop collard greens" - I can't unhear that. Michael McDonald is touring with the Doobies for the 50th anniversary in 2022. Catch the concert if you can.
I just saw them last month!
Long train Runnin’ VIDEO and Jesus is just Alright!these been on my playlist for decades! Lol!
OMG, your description of how much soul he has...I am dying laughing. He is unreal.
all this music is great. the 70s 80s 90s. why cant we hear music like this anymore? is it impossible?? 🦾 Thanks to LFR for bringing back THIS Classic.
Great reaction my friend, super smooth, 🎹🎺🎶🎸🎵🎹🎷🎵🎶🎻🎤
I got one for you Van: I Can't Tell You Why by Eagles. The studio version is the best. You wont be sorry!
Doobies Real Love.
I saw them in concert.
This was our High school jam. Yes, in the the parking lot jammming and getting lit before school. 70’s groovin
I tell you what, while all these other bands in the '70s were stuntin and going crazy, The Doobie Brothers were just holding it down and being real, and bringing it with every single song. Ole Jeff the Skunk Baxter is the shit!!!!
No doubt.
A MUST HEAR SMOOTH SOUL GROOVE,,
THE BLACKBYRDS "WALKING IN RHYTHM"
..TRUST ME ON THIS FEEL GOOD CLASSIC.
Seen em live a bunch of times, two drummers and their drum set grew, they had an overhead camera on the drummers...must've been about 60 cymbals and hats on stage. think they were both double bass too.
That's what real musicianship sounds like. A lost art reflected in today's god awful music.
You can say that again
Doobies are a whole mood and I'm always here for it!!!!! Michael McDonald and that voice! Like Buttaaaaaaa
Oh man, you called me out!!! 😂 I will say that the Studio version has a bit more of a "funk" bite musically, but I still stand by this song 💖. Skunk Baxter owns the guitar. The greatest guitar solo ever is Reeling in the Years. He did that for Steely Dan.
Michael McDonald was literally everywhere in the 70s and 80s. He played with all the greats like Steely Dan, Doobie Bro. and many others.
Yay ty for this reaction..fav dB song
I Keep Forgettin' and Taking it To the Streets are fire! Please react to these songs by the Doobies! Michael McDonald's voice is "on point "!
Great voice and delivery but.... also a fantastic band and amazing harmonies.
This is such a great song and this is a good performance because we know the song. However for you I feel the studio version would have been the better pick. He takes some liberties in how he's singing here. Definitely go to listen to the studio version after this.
I think the sound quality was bad on this video.....Van, it would sound better on studio version!
Agreed! This is such a great song. Studio version is best.
Takin it to the Streets has got to be next!
Hilarious that you would bring up smokin' doobies in the parking lot during the Jeff "Skunk" Baxter guitar solo! You have to earn a nickname like "Skunk"....LOL!!!!

Black Water, Taking it to the Streets..... The Doobie Brothers embody brotherly love so let's roll one and feel the LOVE.
that performance is my favourite mmcd performance of all time, so soulful and his voice is perfect
MICHAEL MCDONALD "I KEEP FORGETTIN"..AN ABSOLUTE MUST HEAR!!

I love the Doobie Brothers!!! Great reaction🤘🔥🔥
❤️They’re touring. Great show.
I love the Doobie Brothers.
This is my favorite song of theirs.
The riff... the harmonies....
You did "I Walk On Golden Splinters" in your car last year by Dr. John. You need to circle back and do "Right Place, Wrong Time." The funk is thick!
oh hell yeah THIS
It is very cool that you have discovered and love The Doobie Bros !! You have Rock and Roll in your soul . ❤✌
And most the audience fired one up in the parking lot...lol
I saw them inside the Oakland coliseum in 1980. The stage was filled with musicians. Michael McDonald was phenomenal. Pat Simmons was flying across the audience on a wire like a wild man. I miss this shit brah, I miss it. I know you gotta do what you do, but I miss this so damn bad.
Tyrone Porter was SO good, so important to the Doobie Brothers sound...Thanks TP...RIP. They were just one of the bands that lit the world on fire 🔥 and have been carrying the musical flame since their start...those that are left and playing.

This was one of my favorite concerts to see.
LFR: I can just see these guys in the parking lot smoking out.
Doobie Brothers: What would give you that idea?
Sublime.
One of the best concerts I’ve ever seen!
"Pee sweet tea and poop Collard Greens... " LOL..
A great musical recommendation by Jay Qwillen. Thanks to you Jay Q!!!
The brother could sing the hell out of it.
The whole album Toulouse Street
This is later Doobie Brothers, the original lead singer is Tom Johnston but they’re both in the band now. I recently bought concert tickets to see them next summer. Can’t wait !! ☮️💜
Just saw them- you’re gonna love it!

Yes. I believe he may know something about the Cook Out.
I have tickets to see the Doobie Brother’s next summer to include Michael McDonald. I can’t wait! It’s been a minute since the last time I saw them.
Bad to the bone. He's got some soul in that voice . Fire . Hey bud have you ever played any James Gang. Funk 49?? Joe Walsh first band. Try it out. Great show man!!!
You gotta check out" Long Train Runnin" lead by Tom Johnston, and" I keep Forgetting" lead by Michael McDonald.
I remember all the great 70s music. I am ten years older than you. ( yes thumbnail is recent LOL ) It was a great time for music. Period. From all genres.
This is an amazing song.
Studio Version is much higher sound quality and can really showcase how talented they are.
Van, you must watch the live performance of: Taking it to the Streets!
1982 live version is the best (in Santa Barbara)
Looks like he’s gonna do your taxes.....and then he opens his mouth. Love your channel & your journey. ❤️ from the U.K.
>>Steely Dan - Do It Again
Every song on Living on the Fault line album is a MUST listen
Van, I have been checking out your videos for quite a while, and I have to say I really dig what you do! Your approach and your energy just bring the good mood, even if it's a controversial topic. Keep doing it man! Love to your family!
Patti LaBelle and Michael McDonald.... On my own
Peace to the 78s...44 is rough for some but smooth af for me
Love how you pull the past up to today!!! Luvs it Van 💥💥💥
Studio version of this might have been a better choice- but this was great too.
Hello, my man! The thing has been hit, Jack.
"MINUTE BY MINUTE" studio version, not live and "TAKING IT TO THE STREETS".
Michael McDonald sings backup on these songs.
"PEG" - Steely Dan
"THIS IS IT"- Kenny Loggins
"RIDE LIKE THE WIND"- Christopher Cross.
From Toulouse Street:
Mamaloi (Jamaican Bluegrass)
Cotton Mouth (Big Band Soul)
Jesus is Just Alright With Me (Classic Rock Gospel)
Toulouse Street (Psychedelic Swamp Rock)
Great reaction-for some more "soul", would love it if you reacted to Hall and Oates-Sara Smile-studio version-official video. Lovely, lovely song..
Pee sweet tea! LOL 😂 He's from St. Louis. We know blues in the midwest.
M.M. is one of a kind!
Great guys with an excellent name ✌️❤️
You should react to Train “Drops of Jupiter”. It’s a 🔥song!
You should check his song, "I keep forgetting" out.Soul!
Bro, you got the best reaction videos in all of RUclips. Love your schtick.
Live version of takin it to the street at outside concert
Will you react to," Joker and thief " by wolfmother ?
Skunk and Mike cleaned them up. The session lessons made it clear
Skunk on guitar went on to become a renowned consultant on missile defense systems.
Not Brothers as in Blood related, but just the name of the Band. I think a few of them are Brothers in Christ though. Such a great "Classic Rock" Band that started in the early 70s.
