See a few people criticising Joes movements. Folks, that’s what it looks like when you feel the music. Joes passion, love and care for his songs and performances were what made him so special. Practically unheard of nowadays. We miss you, Brother Joe.
The people who are criticizing Joe's movements obviously haven't been watching him over the years. His movements are mild in the performance. The movements were just as important to me as the singing. That is Joe Cocker's trademark.
One of the greatest duets. Jennifer Warnes doesn't get her due credit for giving this performance the vocal texture and perfect counterpart to Cocker's rasp and soulful delivery. This is a perfect combination. Replace either performer and there would have been no hit.
I’ll say it . They are both so unique and such powerful singers. A duet for the ages. I rank this duet #1 all time. Prove me wrong . I know I’ll be listening to something good.
Just my opinion, but I think this is the most wonderful duet in Rock/Pop history. I guess there are bigger name duets, and some songs were bigger hits, but I can't think of a one that featured two more seemingly disparate voices that meshed so magnificently as these two did.
chad bearden I will always love him. When my son was 9 months old he did the perfect Joe Cocker imitation. They love feeling air flow through their front teeth. He saw Joe preform, and did the perfect hand movements. The cutest, such a sweet memory.
I have no idea how on Earth you can say he's amazing. He's not on key for most of it, he's got so much rasp and gravel in his voice he's hard to understand, and he's got not a lick of vibrator or timbre, or any of the qualities that are used to measure great singers. I always say, considering his health, his body, and the vocal chords he has, he's good. But there's no way he's "amazing" without qualifying it, by any reasonable standard.
She made a solo album Famous Blue Raincoat that contained her covers of Leonard Cohen songs. Before that, I remember her single Right Time of the Night. Don't know which came first - Raincoat or this song. But Right Time preceded them both iirc
She released two more albums highly appraised by audiophiles - The Hunter(1992) and The Well (2001) and quite recent Another Time Another Place (2018).
She's a mezzo to alto soprano -- lower than the usual soprano woman. That gives her a power and feel which reaches deeper into the chest of herself and the listener (ie, the heart cavity) than just a cerebrally high skull vibration. In the chorus she's singing the underneath harmony which compliments Joe's voice beautifully because usually one expects the woman to take the higher part.
Yeah, she has a Beautiful voice. Had a couple of good hits herself in the early 80's..... Right time of night was one and I know a Heartache when I see one
Who put thumbs down? This is so beautifully done. They go back and forth, two individuals, flowing in and out with the singing. Never losing themselves and making the music greater than each of their performances. I'm sure if they did it again it would be different.
I graduated high school in 1983 and they played this song at my graduation, every time I hear this song I am instantly taken back to that night. R.I.P. Joe Cocker!
I made an incredible life changing decision while this song was playing in the background. Life didn’t turn out exactly as I wished but it’s better than I thought it could be. I always think of that decision when I hear this song. No regrets
I credit seeing Joe Cocker live with a life changing decision I made back in 1990. Seeing the way he performed I realized that I needed to find my own passion.
One of the best love songs of all time - Jennifer Warnes and Joe Cocker both have amazing voices. Great lyrics and music! This song will never get old.
That's the best way to put it. He does not have a good singing voice by all measurable standards. But with what he does have in terms of body, health and vocal chords, he does sing well.
I'm 46 years old and this still makes me cry because I remember being 11 and my mum singing this to me. Sitting together when we only had network tv and stove cooked popcorn. I got to stay up late because she wanted to watch this.
There are some amazing singers online. Ignore the garbage on the pop charts and dig a little deeper. Connor Engstrom invites some amazing singers to his channel. Good luck.✌
We have this song. Song writers and performers have a hard time doing better. There’s a story that Brahms resented Beethoven because the later’s symphonies were so superlative that it made it very difficult for anyone who came afterwards. Thus culture advances. We haven’t lost this and now the internet means these gems are available to all.
Honestly no other duo could pull off this song better. Jennifer and Joe were so not in sync at so much of this song but the raw beauty of this. Performance and their talent makes it so perfect! Great song!!!
I was a 29 year old young man in 1982 when that song was released. The song always sent shivers up my spine when I heard it. Still does 38 years later. They sound Beautiful together.
I had the pleasure of meeting Joe Cocker in 1998. I loved his music since i was 14. i was a cop at the time and i gave him a pair of handcuffs with a key. I said this is for you and Mrs Cocker. I showed him my Sheffield Steel album tattoo. He gave me a t shirt and said my tatt was "Way cool"🥝🇳🇿😎
Jennifer Warnes was blessed to have two wonderful duo partners on Oscar winning Academy Award movie themes within 5 years. This one with rocker Joe Cocker on An Offficer and a Gentleman in 1982 and 1987 with the marvelous Billl Medley, former of the Righteous Brothers, performing the closing and inspiring piece "Time of Our Lives" following the memorable and beautifully choreographed dance conclusion featuring the late Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray in Dirty Dancing. From film producer comments with an Officer and Gentleman., Joe Cocker was was the undeniable choice as a duo partner with Warnes with his distinctive inspiring soulful guteral passionate voice blending so wonderfully with hers. He was chosen for this God given talent in songs he had performed previously on his mega hit album Mad Dogs and Englishmen related to such songs as remakes of Cry Me a River , Beetle hit of With a Little Help From My Friends, etc. This song and their participation brings in such wonderful memories of the films conclusion where Richard Gere's character of Mayo( or " Mayonnaise" a nickname given to him by Louis Gosset Jr's in his Academy Award winning supporting actor performance has a tough military sergeant) comes in to take Debra Wingers leading character from her Factory position in riding off into the sunset on his motorcycle.. Included in this series of scenes also showed up Gosset' s character breaking in and breaking down a new batch of recruits for military service. Gere's character of Mayo exhibits a grateful glance at his former tough Marine sergeant who helped to mold into the man he became. I was blessed to see both of these movies on the large screen and the closing duets of Warnes and her very appropriate singing partners an the inspirational music attached to it. It brings back many memories in my mind both of these movies from 33 and 38 years ago.
Jennifer Warnes: smooth, elegant, grace, perfectly compliments Joe's lead with her powerful vocals Joe Cocker: squints, head jerks, all twitchy and weird flailing, looks like a junkie on a high, voice that is fucking awesome
One of the most beautiful chorus harmonies ever. The (gruff) male voice singing the primary melody and the (sweetest) female voice doing UNDERNEATH harmonies (a most unusual combination) is exquisite.
This is the best song that the late Joe Cocker & Jenifer Warnes worked on together. I truly love this song. RIP Mr. Joe Cocker thank you for all the wonderful songs onelove.
Joe Cocker and his “Power Band” opened for Tina Turner, Pittsburgh Civic Arena, 2000. Totally unforgettable, over the top, live performance. He was DRENCHED in sweat. He held nothing back. Pure talent. No one else like him. Rest in peace Mr. Cocker and thank you for the opportunity to see your live performance.
Joe is so underrated. He was sort of mentored by Leon Russell so he has one helluva pedigree. The skill he shows in blending his raspy voice with the cultured voice of Jennifer Warnes shows what can be done without a bunch of electronic junk to make the mediocre sound good.
Jenifer Warnes and Joe Cocker are fantastic in this song..Joe Cocker is a legend and he is forever giving us a great performance..U are missed Joe and still listening to your music..RIP
Joe cocker a legend of note, Jennifer great musician , unfortunately she was underrated ,her voice was absolutely great. her vocal range was something else.
@@SarahSobieski It means you can’t sing in tune, unless you have a computer to enhance the sound. They’re using auto tune because they can’t hit the notes with their own voice
@tinwoods I agree actually. But auto tune is a massive enhancement of your voice. It’s literally changing the notes you are singing. Reverb is much more subtle.
joecocker had such an imperfect voice...never saw how the tickets sold. Now the lady had a very charming smile and a TALENT. but but it was what it was
There'll never be another musical legend like Joe Cocker, one of my favourite covers he sings is a Beatles song "A little help from my friends". R.I.L. Joe Cocker. ❤

I totally was thinking this when I read your comment. She knows to complement, to modulate, to keep her eye on Jow’s mouth.
