Compressing the folders in motion templates is genius. I’ve been dragging dropping plug ins in a separate folder to disable them for too long and now I’ll use this method. Thanks!

My Final Cut has been absolutely tanking lately. Even simple edits were giving me constant beach balls. I realised the main issue was having the library on the external SSD. Moving it onto the internal SSD fixed a lot of the beach balls. I'm still getting them sometimes though so I'm going to check all your points.

@@TheFinalCutBro Take out 'John Dickerson' and replace it with 'Bates' and yes, I was talking about that one.

Ha! That explains things. I have FOUR removable hard drives plugged into my Mac most of the time (I double x double backup important files). Based on your advice, I will mend the error of my ways. Your help and advice is always very much appreciated over here in windy and wet Scotland. Excellent tutorial.

#4 is awesome!!! Some of my Pixel Film Studios plug ins were causing Motion to take about 15 minutes to open. PFS told me to put them into an "alternate folder" while using Motion and then put them back into their respective effects, generators, transition or title folders when needed for Final Cut Pro. Total time waster and pretty much a lousy way to work. Now I compress them as you said and leave them in their normal folders. And it works like a charm. Apple Motion opens right up and I don't have to swap folders when needed

If FCP is running and I connect my AirPods, starting or stopping playback literally takes half a second once I hit start/stop, and skimming along the timeline is so laggy it's impossible to use. Interestedly, connecting the AirPods first and then starting FCP seems to help. It's still a little laggy, but it's usable, though clearly not as fast as using external speakers.

Another thing that can slow a project down is using optical flow.
Too bad because otherwise I’d use it all the time.

Thanks Dylan. Do you think it would be doable to create your own "GRIDDY" effect template in motion? Maybe not with all the bells and whistles of the Fx Factory version but I was thinking that with utilizing replicators it shouldn't be that difficult.... but maybe I'm delusional. I would love to see that type of video (your build it motion vids are easily my favourite type you do). Keep up the great work.

Griddy was built in Motion, so yes!
This video shows the basics of how you could set something like that up. You’d just need to add more positions than what I show.
