That could happen, the day someone in this company has the desire or the will to listen to its customers. I think anyone who wants a better and more professional alternative, FCP is not going to be that NLE, I've got my money on Blackmagic.
Some nice additions. The complete lack of captions updates still is wild considering how important they've been for a good few years now for anyone making social media content.
I use fcpx for professional work. But I am very tempted to switch to davinci. How is it possible that premiere is bringin generative fill ai on video and apple comes with: "Great update! Now we can rename the effects!" It's upseting... They clearly want to loose this battle and they don't care about their users
just wanted to share my experience as a longtime FCPX user who made the switch to DaVinci Resolve Studio a year ago. This isn't a hater rant; I genuinely loved FCPX and always looked forward to new updates. But for my needs, FCPX just isn't cutting it anymore. Text-based editing in DVR saves me 70% of the time I used to spend on interviews, and features like intelligent masking and proper audio editing are so much better. I adored the magnetic timeline in FCPX, but after getting the hang of the DVR Cutpage, I find it even more enjoyable to work with. Plus, DVR comes with so many built-in tools that I used to buy as third-party add-ons for FCPX, like Color Finale Pro 2 (which had terrible performance) or the pricey MotionVFX subscription tracker. Apple has really dropped the ball with FCPX. The latest update is just disappointing. They have all these great tools across their devices but won't integrate the best features into their software. It’s ironic that they showcase DVR performances during their MacBook launches. Sad but true.
I bought FCP some time ago mainly as a hobby. It works very well. I then bought a Blackmagic camera and discovered their RAW did not work, even with a plugin I bought. I then bit the bullet and tried Resolve. I can't fault it. The free version seems as good as FCP. I then bought the full version (which is cheaper than FCP). I was amazed how fantastic it is . The AI features are off the chart. Import a music video and with a couple of clicks you can remove the vocals, the drums, piano etc. Colour grading is superb and much easier. I can't find an advantage with FCP. I love Apple kit. Apple software is superb but Resolve is on another level. Why not try the free version? Also, have a look at the free Blackmagic camera app for iPhone/iPad. It is fantastic and free with no paid version,
And yet fundamentally editing still remains faster due to the magnetic timeline. The bells and whistles on other apps are nice but not the driving force of my creativity. Doesn’t prevent me having envy.

Well I'm happy they bring good updates but I'll add my hope for captions as well, and what I would absolutely love two is having two timelines of two different projects next to/underneath each other... This way you can work so much easier when you get footage from another editor that you need to add to your project.
All is really good and really cool! I can confirm now I will never use the drag and drop effect feature.. muscle memory will always be Cmd+C Cmd+Shift+V
I still wish they would have added a speed graph for any keyframing actions. And why can't we apply optical flow to a compound clip with a speed change in FCP? In Davinci you can. In FCP, you have to export the compound clip before you can apply optical flow to a speed change.
What I really want is to be able to save transitions that I made on the timeline that I use over and over again, save them to a favorites transition folder. One last little detail.
really hate how apple dgaf about fcpx. most of these updates shouldve been implemented 10 years ago. how about auto-transcribe for titles? most video has subtitles now and i have to use 3rd party apps to get that. they just don't care about this app as they know it's not where most of their revenue comes from.
I’m waiting for: - automatic audio ducking - automated close captioning with control over style - role based audio mixer & more audio master controls I suspect some of the above might be introduced after macOS Sequoia, since they will implement Apple Intelligence with similar features so FCP will just piggyback on those.
Hi Dylan, Future updates to Final Cut Pro should include more advanced rotoscoping features, such as precise hair cutting and AI-driven separation of face, body, and background for more effective masking and color correction. Additionally, a lightweight 3D tracker option would greatly enhance the workflow. Exporting color corrections as LUTs for use across multiple clips would be a fantastic addition. Moreover, the ability to directly import 3D assets into Final Cut Pro would significantly boost creativity and convenience, allowing for more dynamic and imaginative projects. These features would undoubtedly elevate the editing experience and open up new creative possibilities.
I'm getting regular crashes with 10.8 that I didn't have with 10.7.1 and am seeing some new issues like images unable to load that I've not seen before. Mostly working, it seems, but... not entirely working for me yet.
Thanks for the update on the new features. I'm not happy that Apple has dropped support for burning to disk - your solution is not suitable for burning to blu ray.,
I like the improvements, but missing a lot of features I was hoping for. Especially pertaining to Captions. I'll still be having to go back and forth between CapCut and FCP. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I have updated to FCPX 10.8. However, while edit yesterday I went to the clip retiming options but the Smooth Slo Mo option doesn't appear. Any suggestions on how to make it appear? Is it because I'm using an Intel iMac instead of a silicon iMac?
Here's hoping they drop 11 someday soon! I'm actually really happy with a lot of the changes. But I can see it being disappointing as well for many who just want to see Apple flex hard on the competition.
Thanks for the video! cool update! But I'm still waiting for a simple function to display multiple footage at once. For now I’m using a third-party developer, Command Post, but it doesn’t work stably and you can’t use a computer when it’s running. As a stock videographer, I really need this. I colored a lot of clips, trimmed the beginning and end of the file and simply displayed the entire timeline track by track! It's so simple. Maybe you Dylan can tell me how to do this? I did it using a compound clip, but it’s a lot of button pressing :)
I'm not 100% this is what you're looking for. But you can enable the "Event Viewer" which is found in your Menu Bar under Window > Show In Workspace > Event Viewer. This allows you to skim clips in your browser, while still keeping the regular view of the timeline open. Hoping that helps at least a little!
@Thefinalcutbro do you or anyone else have 10.8.0 zipped and would it work if you share it with me? I installed 10.8.1 and the viewer keeps crashing every 15 min. Strange it is only the viewer.
I'd just wish sharing projects would work reliably. Project's due today and FCPX keeps failing to export. Sooo fed up with this. Changing to Davinci after this project 100%.
A fix for export errors I’ve found is to convert my clips to “optimized media”. That’s helped a ton! Specifically Sony footage seems to give me trouble unfortunately. Hoping that helps you get it exported!

My wife works with a dance studio. They have 2-3 performances a year, and there's just a lot of grandparents who aren't as tech savvy as some that want to buy the DVD's haha!
The FINAL CUT UPGRADE will not pop up in either one of my computers I'm using Monterey 12.7.5. Do I need to upgrade that to get Final Cut 10.8? My Final Cut version is 10.6.6.
Hello guys! One question here after updated my FCP to 10.8 version: When I move the playhead using arrows keys (left/right) the audio is not skimming!!! If I move the playhead with my mouse/trackpad, audio skimming works fine. Audioskimming button is enabled and on. Is anybody knows what's going on or facing the same thing? It's very important to me to hear what's playing when I use arrows keys on my keyboard, that way I can edit sounds in a better way... Help!!!
@@TheFinalCutBro Thank you Dylan! But didn`t work... Just restarted my MacBook, deleted Final Cut Pro preferences, toggled on and off audio skimming but still doesn't work when I move playhead with arrows keys... the previous version 10.7.1 it worked fine, now doesn't =(
@@taylorbeltran2491 one last thing to try, is use the keyboard shortcut Shift S! Sometimes that gets it to work too. I’d definitely submit a bug report to Apple! Hoping you backed up FCP before downloading haha!

With skimming off, moving playhead with arrows keys the audio skimming works again normally! But, if I toggle "skimming" ON (pressing S again), audio skimming doesn't work when i move playhead using arrows keys but works if I move playhead with mouse/trackpad... wtf? Is this a new "feature"? o.O
Great recap 🙌thanks. Hey, one thing that drives me NUTS in final cut pro is that you're not able to cmnd + scroll to zoom in and zoom out - the only way I have found to do that is hitting cmnd + a bunch of times.. Is there a way to do this that you know of??
If you’re using a trackpad, you can pinch to zoom in and out. You can also press Z to get the zoom tool, and click and drag over the area you want to zoom in on. Then press Shift Z to zoom back out to see the full timeline! There’s no scroll to zoom in / out unfortunately that I’m aware of!

@@hoodaffairstv 1,000% recommend picking up an old Mac with DVD Studio Pro. It’s actually super easy to use and infinitely better than any other DVD authoring software out there.

Sound effects organization and search are still forgotten…..a huge mess. Plus the ability to favourite the titles and generators, basic stuff. Anyway, let’s hope for more
Wish they would just make it for windows, Macs are so bad and horrible, I love my iPad but it's just not optimal editing videos there, for me anyway. I'd pay for a windows version.
You should be okay. I personally have had almost zero issues with the latest version. Though I am seeing a few people report bugs. But I wouldn't stress too much.. But I would make a backup of this version now, so when the next version releases, you are good to go!

Never had an update corrupt projects. But I had an update that crashed every few minutes, which I had to go back for!
Have you tested going from Compressor Presets to create a DVD preset destination in FCP for this release?

All nice and useful updates no doubt. I hope they can simnifically make a better tracking feature. I always get not that decent results.
Auto caption and auto audio sync from external recorder would be helpful for me.
One thing missing, is the ability to rearrange the viewer in full height (for vertical content editing)
we need more keyframe control similar to what the opacity graph editor looks like!
I've used DaVinci Resolve since 15 (it's 18.6 now, and 19 is in beta), and FCPX is HEAPS easier to use (i.e., DR has the maddening NODE MANIA).

FCP 10.8 is only available on MacOS 13.5 - So I think Monterey may not be enough! Might be worth updating if you're able to.

Sometimes I run into this bug! Generally disabling audio skimming and re-enabling it fixes it for me. Also a computer restart can go a long way!
@@TheFinalCutBro Thank you Dylan! But didn`t work... Just restarted my MacBook, deleted Final Cut Pro preferences, toggled on and off audio skimming but still doesn't work when I move playhead with arrows keys... the previous version 10.7.1 it worked fine, now doesn't =(
@@taylorbeltran2491 one last thing to try, is use the keyboard shortcut Shift S! Sometimes that gets it to work too. I’d definitely submit a bug report to Apple! Hoping you backed up FCP before downloading haha!
@@TheFinalCutBro didn't work here! I have timemachine with fcp 10.7.1 so I am safe haha... I notice one thing in this new version 10.8: If I press S skimming turn off right? With skimming off, moving playhead with arrows keys the audio skimming works again normally! But, if I toggle "skimming" ON (pressing S again), audio skimming doesn't work when i move playhead using arrows keys but works if I move playhead with mouse/trackpad... wtf? Is this a new "feature"? o.O
Great recap 🙌thanks. Hey, one thing that drives me NUTS in final cut pro is that you're not able to cmnd + scroll to zoom in and zoom out - the only way I have found to do that is hitting cmnd + a bunch of times.. Is there a way to do this that you know of??
If you’re using a trackpad, you can pinch to zoom in and out. You can also press Z to get the zoom tool, and click and drag over the area you want to zoom in on. Then press Shift Z to zoom back out to see the full timeline!
There’s no scroll to zoom in / out unfortunately that I’m aware of!

@@hoodaffairstv 1,000% recommend picking up an old Mac with DVD Studio Pro. It’s actually super easy to use and infinitely better than any other DVD authoring software out there.

Not really impressed with this update. Apple needs to really wow us with some incredible features. Nothing special like that to be honest.
Sound effects organization and search are still forgotten…..a huge mess. Plus the ability to favourite the titles and generators, basic stuff. Anyway, let’s hope for more
Wish they would just make it for windows, Macs are so bad and horrible, I love my iPad but it's just not optimal editing videos there, for me anyway. I'd pay for a windows version.

You should be okay. I personally have had almost zero issues with the latest version. Though I am seeing a few people report bugs. But I wouldn't stress too much.. But I would make a backup of this version now, so when the next version releases, you are good to go!
