  • Everything you need to know to get your HGV licence.
Since November 2021 how you get your truck licence in the UK has changed. This video will explain what you need to know to get qualified to drive a HGV. This video will also warn you about the hazards of NOT doing your research when searching for a HGV training company. We strongly urge you go direct to a local HGV training company in your area, rather than using a broker

    Thank you.
    The video is spot on.
And the last minute of it was probably the most important to me.I am looking for job security mostly not just the massive pay.And also you saying the wages are comparable.Extremely.And i would say it may be easier get a job without experience as C driver, instead C+E.
I do have class 2 since 2008.Then i stayed on Flt driving due to the wages being basically the same level.
So instead of going through this lengthy and pricey process of c+e.
I will just do the cpc training.
Its cheaper, quicker and then it only matters if someone gives me chance to get a job without experience.
I am currently on the jobcentre for couple months and will try to find out if i can get help with the cpc.
I am in Manchester, but i must say,if i was near you guys i would do it with you.
    Straight forward infos,no BS.Like that.
Thank you again. Will see how it goes.
If i may.Any good idea for good CPC providers in/around Manchester?
I can see few online, but you are in the business and skills beats everything.
And financially i cant take any risk now.
    Thank you

Hi. I must admit it can be hard to avoid the broker as they are everywhere online. Brokers are typically the so called nationwide HGV training companies. So anyone mentioning they have national coverage should be avoided as there are NO genuine companies that operate online. Try looking also at the local Google business listing also. Where are you based as we may know a good one in your area.

Not come across brokers, i have however come across other means of what is deemed 'value for money' contracts/contractors, they are simply looking for the cheapest option and not the quality of training required for a vocational licence. Again it would be great to catch up.

I see you're advising people to take their class 2 first. Now you point out that brokers main interest is money but as a HGV training centre, so is yours and with the government changing the rules, you now stand to lose up to half your income if everybody goes for class 1 straight away. I'm waiting for my provisional to arrive and am going for my class 1 (or intended to) but now I have doubts. You say it's a lot more challenging but as far as I can see, it's just reversing that's the challenging bit. Also some training providers are putting the price up of the class 1 to nearly double to compensate. Can you give some solid points as to why I should do my class 2 first? Thank you

    • @EPTrainingServicesLimited
      @EPTrainingServicesLimited  Год назад +2

Hi and thanks for your comments. Firstly I am not advertising nothing….simply providing free advice based on my experience.
I advise people to go for glass 2 as
1, it’s less expensive than class one
2, it is a less challenging driving test to pass on a cat C that CE. If you know how to reverse a trailer before you start the class one course will help. It’s really not that easy to reverse a 44 tonnes, as well as uncouple and recouple
And then there the one hour on road drive and you have to give a good drive.
I must admit it can look easy but actually doing it really is not that straight forward.
3, the money drivers earn between class one and class two is really not much different
4, the HGV driver shortage is with the cat C more than CE
5, employers are not overtly keen on taking those on that skipped cat C and went straight to CE. It’s all about experience and they still prefer the cat C and then CE route
There are many other reason. I am not saying don’t go straight to CE, that is your choice and whatever you choose I am sure will work for you.
The government changed the rules not down to road safety improving or there are better drivers out there. It was a political choice to tackle the driver shortage.
Brokers are middlemen. They are not needed. You can do all this with a good local training company.
I am not doing myself out of any income
In fact my business is doing very well. I find that if we provide real sensible advise rather than trying to grab all your money then people trust you. In turn they will come back again for other courses and recommend their friends and family.
We have customers that have been with us for over 30 years.
      Good luck with your choice

    • @xj358
      @xj358 Год назад +2

Spot on mate. I've been in this game for over 30 years and doing Class 2 first does not gain you the experience you need for Class 1. It probably pulls you in the wrong direction, and considering that even under the previous EU staged system, you could still go straight to class 1 immediately after passing class 2, then there was absolutely no requirement to gain any experience whatsoever before progressing to class 1. It was nothing more than an EU money spinner for the training industry. If you want to crack the class 1 reverse before starting your training, simply practice with a car and trailer as its no different to reversing a truck and trailer. Check out the old B+E car and trailer reverse test on You Tube and you will see that it was exactly the same as the C+E truck and trailer test. If you can crack the B+E with your own car and trailer, you will have no problem cracking the C+E.

      Hi
You can do 3a and 3b on the same day
However you must have passed 3a to then take the 3b test
In light of this it may be best to do the 3a one day and then pass 3b on another day.
That way if you fail 3a you will have time to retest (only have to wait one day) .
Module 4 will no doubt be done on a separate day after passing 3a and 3b

Great overview. I'm a software developer and am not planning on switching my career any time soon but I've been playing Euro Truck Simulator 2 over the years (I know, silly), have a couple cousins who are truck drivers and I've always been fascinated by trucks. Have had my B license since 2004 and A license since 2013. Would love to get myself the C+E category just for the experience itself. Who knows what life brings when I get older - maybe I suddenly decide to become a truck driver :)
It sounds like there's shortage of truck drivers out there from what I keep seeing and hearing everywhere. What are the realistic salaries full time truck drivers can earn nowadays? Obviously it varies from company to company but is it 20k, 40k, 60k per year? Just interested to know as an outsider.

If your current CPC card does not show C1, C1E, C and C then you must have passed your car test after 1.1.1997 and therefore in order to gain your CPC for HGV you MUST complete the Initial CPC (Mods 2 and 4). It's easy.
If you did pass you car test before 1.1.1997 and want to drive a 7.5 tonner (under grandfather rights) you can do the 35 hours periodic CPC.
