@@EPTrainingServicesLimited it's not so much the cost as the navy are putting me through the test it's more about going from driving a car then getting into a class 1 vehicle. It's a big jump and if the money is just as good with class 2 then I'm happy enough with that as due to retire from the armed forces soon and just need something not so stressful
Very informative and the clearest explanation yet i have seen for all the steps required. I'm just about to do periodic training to activate my 7.5T as the first step on the ladder as I passed my car test in 1986. Actually having second thoughts now about doing CE and might just follow up with C. I have my suspicions about the training provider I have booked my CPC through. I have already found your site and like the fact you have lots of pricing of various combinations of training (something a lot of companies seem shady about). I will check out the blog and as I'm only about an hour away from your training base and may well book further training with you when the time comes.

Thanks very much. Government funding is available in the form of Bootcamp. However it's over subscribed and to be honest a complete joke of a system. People end up waiting literally years to get their licence via Bootcamp. When it should only take 3 months. Too many sham companies have the government contracts. Your best bet is to finance this yourself.
Hi. I must admit it can be hard to avoid the broker as they are everywhere online. Brokers are typically the so called nationwide HGV training companies. So anyone mentioning they have national coverage should be avoided as there are NO genuine companies that operate online. Try looking also at the local Google business listing also. Where are you based as we may know a good one in your area.
I recently passed my fast track C+E course with a driving school in the Midlands. This video is a great breakdown of all the steps with getting your license. I just waiting for my DQC card now. Avoid training brokers two of the guys that I met went through a broker and they regretted it. Overpriced and worthless. All the best to anyone who is looking at training 👍
What a piece of excellent and advantageous information, I really appreciated it. My question is which app is best to prepare for the Theory test, hazards and CPCs? As I have checked the DVLA apps, it was only available as a subscription or pay for the whole year, which was obviously expensive compared to the third-party apps.
If I was you I'd buy the dvla official book I found that a lot easier than the computer software. And as for the hazard precision test the software was nothing like the one I was given on my test
@@supersprinter1564 The book is good and for some it's ideal. But it's bulky and doesn't do mock tests. But it's whatever works. The HP is a joke. Just dont click too early!
@Sean Pargeter I passed in December but failed the theory twice using the computer software decided to buy the book and after only a couple of hours I was scoring in the mid 90% after a week doing a couple of hours a night I knew basically every answer and didn't need to do mock tests well I decided not to do mock tests because from my failed attempts I noticed they are nothing like the computer software anyways .and your also right Hazzard perception is a pain as the software I was given to practice wasn't cgi and my actual test was lucky I scored 78 on my first attempt .my reverse test I found easy and also found the practical test easy minus a few nerves at the beginning only got 2 minors on that test found a new job 1 days after passing and my wages went up 12k per year and I do 4 hours a day less work well worth putting the effort in as the rewards are great 👍
Pity you're not in the Dorset (Poole/Bournemouth/Christchurch) area. I've looked at 3 training websites in Dorset. Would you please recommend any? I've have just watched your video again, and made lots of notes which is very helpful. My only concern is, sending my driver's license to DVLA with the necessary two forms and not having it with me (when i drive to work) for about 2 weeks. Any advice please?
I am inspired by this video, I just arrived in the UK, and I was a truck driver in Nigeria. How do I kick that my HGV journey here in England. I would really appreciate it if you get back to me. Thank you
Hi Wisdom and thank you for your comments. You just follow the steps above however you will need to exchange your non UK licence for a UK one. You can exchange your licence at the same time you apply for your provisional HGV via DVLA. Other than that it's the same as per my video. Thank you
Thank you As long as your 18 u don’t have to wait at all However I would recommend you obtain at least 6 months on road car driving experience It’s not ideal to go to HGV without much on road experience
just a observation regards the provisional license, i went on the dvla website in october and and confirming my email, i got back literally in 5 mins provisionals for everything above car license, but on reflection i passed in 1989, i have done my medical just now waiting on mod4 and practical training to start, admittdely i am doing this as a bootcamp/DWP but even my jobcentre is getting upset over the time duration 5 months so far, and another month and half to completion :(
Hi Bootcamp is a crock of shit. Too much times wasting and poor training. Typical government. Please check ONLINE to see if you have provisional C and CE.
@@EPTrainingServicesLimited Cheers guys. Quick question, I started out my career building the bodies on lorries and I want to finish it driving them, I'm 52 now so wanted to ask have I left it too late?
Your medical for eye test if doctor thinks your vision is not good do they send you to your opticians to get your vision tested and prescription updated then go back for your medical? The dvla don't revoke your car licence just bcas you didn't meet eye test requirement?
hello. great video lots of information. well explained. you nail sir. Hello Shaun/Shawn, enjoyed the video, very informative, we also run a training school in Preston, would be great to get some advice from you as you seem tuned in and very knowledgeable. Not come across brokers, i have however come across other means of what is deemed 'value for money' contracts/contractors, they are simply looking for the cheapest option and not the quality of training required for a vocational licence. Again it would be great to catch up.
I recently became unemployed. I was a Bookkeeper/Accountant. I thought I could get this training free if I go via Universal Credit (not applied to UC yet) and they put you through Driving Academy. I've contacted Driving Academy on 30/5/23 and done this 7/8 times since and still not heard anything. I have no way of contacting them either - anyone have any experience with this? Either way, if I were to come to EP, how much are we talking roughly to get me ready to apply for jobs? Thanks.
I see you're advising people to take their class 2 first. Now you point out that brokers main interest is money but as a HGV training centre, so is yours and with the government changing the rules, you now stand to lose up to half your income if everybody goes for class 1 straight away. I'm waiting for my provisional to arrive and am going for my class 1 (or intended to) but now I have doubts. You say it's a lot more challenging but as far as I can see, it's just reversing that's the challenging bit. Also some training providers are putting the price up of the class 1 to nearly double to compensate. Can you give some solid points as to why I should do my class 2 first? Thank you
Hi and thanks for your comments. Firstly I am not advertising nothing….simply providing free advice based on my experience. I advise people to go for glass 2 as 1, it’s less expensive than class one 2, it is a less challenging driving test to pass on a cat C that CE. If you know how to reverse a trailer before you start the class one course will help. It’s really not that easy to reverse a 44 tonnes, as well as uncouple and recouple And then there the one hour on road drive and you have to give a good drive. I must admit it can look easy but actually doing it really is not that straight forward. 3, the money drivers earn between class one and class two is really not much different 4, the HGV driver shortage is with the cat C more than CE 5, employers are not overtly keen on taking those on that skipped cat C and went straight to CE. It’s all about experience and they still prefer the cat C and then CE route There are many other reason. I am not saying don’t go straight to CE, that is your choice and whatever you choose I am sure will work for you. The government changed the rules not down to road safety improving or there are better drivers out there. It was a political choice to tackle the driver shortage. Brokers are middlemen. They are not needed. You can do all this with a good local training company. I am not doing myself out of any income In fact my business is doing very well. I find that if we provide real sensible advise rather than trying to grab all your money then people trust you. In turn they will come back again for other courses and recommend their friends and family. We have customers that have been with us for over 30 years. Good luck with your choice
Spot on mate. I've been in this game for over 30 years and doing Class 2 first does not gain you the experience you need for Class 1. It probably pulls you in the wrong direction, and considering that even under the previous EU staged system, you could still go straight to class 1 immediately after passing class 2, then there was absolutely no requirement to gain any experience whatsoever before progressing to class 1. It was nothing more than an EU money spinner for the training industry. If you want to crack the class 1 reverse before starting your training, simply practice with a car and trailer as its no different to reversing a truck and trailer. Check out the old B+E car and trailer reverse test on You Tube and you will see that it was exactly the same as the C+E truck and trailer test. If you can crack the B+E with your own car and trailer, you will have no problem cracking the C+E.

Hello I have few questions I just passed LGV CPC case study module 3a reversing test, mod3b practical driving and modu4 test demonstration are these exams each on different days? for example 3a + 3b on the same exam day? And if I want to take all the exams booked at once on the same day, is it possible? thanks
Hi You can do 3a and 3b on the same day However you must have passed 3a to then take the 3b test In light of this it may be best to do the 3a one day and then pass 3b on another day. That way if you fail 3a you will have time to retest (only have to wait one day) . Module 4 will no doubt be done on a separate day after passing 3a and 3b Good luck
Thank you for your advise regarding brokers I am new to the industry and already planning to part about £2300 for my training. I try to find training around me instead of the broker with National coverage selling point that attracted me. can you please recommend any training in Nottingham.
Good afternoon and thanks for your comments. The national brokers are not good They have they no trucks or employ instructor. Please, please do NOT fall for their BS! You have J Coates and Neil Codd in your area. Good companies. You should get your class 2 and CPC for approx £2K Good luck mate and let us know how you get on Sean
What if you have a pcv license already and want to get your hgv licence I have a cpc card so I still need to apply for a hgv provisional how does it work thanks.
Hi E.p I already done my medical and received my provisional licence. The question is at the Hgv Practical test are you required to read a number plate or is it straight onto the tell me show me questions?
Thanks is this because you have already done your medical and have been issued provisional licence? How certain are you that you don't need to read number plate before Hgv test ?
@@BABZ786 after 25 years running a HGV training school you can rely on me when it comes to this information. Anyway you have already passed an eye test at the provisional application stage. And that test is harder than reading a number plate.
The broker scenario happend with me in total I paid £4300 for category C had 3 attempts at test with very little training and never got my licence everyday I wake up feeling like I need to do the test again just to justify the £4300 I've already paid.
Good video. I was hoping to know what happens after I pass the 3b. I have done all modules except that one. Do the DVLA automatically send you a new driving license card as well the CPC card?
Thanks Russell Once you pass the 3b the driving examiner will take your licence from and you will get a new one within 7 days. Once you pass 3b the CPC card will be sent through automatically to you. You don’t need to do anything. You should get your CPC card within 7 days of passing the 3b Hope this helps and thank you again Sean
Sean, I’m in the Worcestershire area any suggestions on a Hgv training company, I’m trying to do my due diligence right now. You are based where? Do you have any affiliations, with Hgv companies in this area? Cheers mate great video👍🏼
Sorry to hear that. 600 applications and no job? It can be hard with no expereince but do keep with it. If you keep putting in the eactivity you will get a start. Good luck!
Trying to go straight into a class 1 job probably isn't realistic. Ideally, you want to go to a company that operates with different vehicle types and start on the rigids or 7.5tonners. Prove yourself there and you'll get the opportunity to graduate to the artics.
forgot to say i was on buses and then coaches biggest 51 ft harder to drive than a artic except for reversing of course currently on class 2 now abit of tramping and now over 1400 application's for class1 jobs and nothing been on the class2 for a year now getting to the point i wish i never took my class1 what i should of done is gone with Stobart's driving school passed with them so im tied to them for 2 years but when i went and got my class1 they then didn't want to know even though i was accepted on there in house training live and learn i suppose.@@raithrover1976
Great overview. I'm a software developer and am not planning on switching my career any time soon but I've been playing Euro Truck Simulator 2 over the years (I know, silly), have a couple cousins who are truck drivers and I've always been fascinated by trucks. Have had my B license since 2004 and A license since 2013. Would love to get myself the C+E category just for the experience itself. Who knows what life brings when I get older - maybe I suddenly decide to become a truck driver :) It sounds like there's shortage of truck drivers out there from what I keep seeing and hearing everywhere. What are the realistic salaries full time truck drivers can earn nowadays? Obviously it varies from company to company but is it 20k, 40k, 60k per year? Just interested to know as an outsider.
@@EPTrainingServicesLimitedjust a question, I'm a south african hgv driver with 14years experience I have a UK driving licence for cars, I did the D2 and D4 form already. I want to know what do I need to do next to receive the E+C or class 1 driving licence?
It's well worth to get the licence. But be very aware of curropted training companies. That will just take all your hard earn money off you. Make sure you always look at the reviews and go down the centre to do a payment. Rather it just to be on phone 📱 to do a payment 🙏. Believe me I hate it when people get ripped off 😭. I've been fooled in the past but not anymore 😡
Well said and that advice is spot on. There are too many people ripping people off and never more so in the HGV training industry. It's not right and needs to be called out! Thank you for your comments!
Question, I passed car test before 1997 I have recently passed my hazard perception and multi choice and now studying for the Module 2 CPC, after watching this does it mean I dont have to pass the CPC but must do the 35 hours of training if so can I not just do the CPC test instead may be easier then 35 hrs I am a little confused but well explained video.
Hi No You need to do the CPC before u can drive and be paid to drive. You can do modules 2 and 4 technically speaking but it’s a ball ache as u can’t book the CPC case study test online. You have to ring the DVSA etc. IMHO it’s better and easier to do the 35 hours as there is no exams to pass and you WILL learn more doing the 36 hours rather than modules 2 and 4 Thank you
Yes ok I understand now thank you for the reply I can see the 35 hrs would give me a much better grounding I was all set to book the case studies as I live really close to the centre but might hold off now I think it can be booked here www.gov.uk/book-theory-test but many thanks for information much appreciated
@@seanpargeter25 Thanks Sean I was not even aware I could just do the 35hrs till I see this video my circumstances are different to most as I found out I can get C&E though my existing employer but I possibly would not do this for a living there is a bunch more to this but that's the basics but finding out exactly what is required I must confess takes some research hence if I was wanting this for a living then anymore reading this I would advice to get everything delt with right from the start with a training company such as EP 👍
Hi I’m taking part soon in a car to class 1 course my question is if I pass the class 2 part then fail my class 1 do I then auto fail everything? Or will I have my class 2
I just had a thought. If you are going from car to class 1 why are you doing a class 2 test when it really is not needed. That's doing two tests to get 1 licence when you can do this in one test. Who are you signed up with for your training?
Can it be done from 7.5 tonne , I’ve already got my provisional entitlement for hgv it took 8 weeks to get my licence back because of my eye test/medication, I meant class 1
Hi Chris Yes you can do your HGV from 7.5 tonnes It’s the same process if you did not have 7.5 tonnes The only difference will be how you complete your driver CPC You will need to do the 35 hours for CPC and NOT modules 2 and 4 We are based in Surrey do maybe a bit too far Just don’t go with a broker

This is gold. ❤
Thank you very much. Glad it helped
Just avoid the brokers and you will be fine
Been undecided between my class 1 and 2, after seeing this video will probably take my class 2 first then see how it goes, great video 👍
Thanks. It's best to go class 2 as it's less expensive than class 1 and less challenging to acquire. Also the money is good for class 2.
Thanks for the heads up as I may use someone else to do my C licence.
Thank you for your comments and glad they helped. Class 2 is a good idea. I agree with you
If you go to my website and check my most recent blog it names all the brokers. Maybe worth checking and if it is just go direct. Thanks Sean

If I can help at least one person avoid the brokers then that’s one less person being taken for a ride
I have already found your site and like the fact you have lots of pricing of various combinations of training (something a lot of companies seem shady about). I will check out the blog and as I'm only about an hour away from your training base and may well book further training with you when the time comes.
Its good they dont make it too complicated...................l got mine in 1970 because l was driving an artic prior, done UK, Europe, Middle East, never had an accident but got piles and a bad back.
Cheers Chris for your comments. Sorry you got piles. Must be years of sitting on that hard drivers seat. They are much more comfy these days.
I'm looking at getting a HGV license. What's the best way for me to find an actual training centre and not a broker? All I seem to find is brokers.
Heya , getting there, will have my mod 2 test soon, but I would love to see someone explaining the working time hours permitted and all the hours regulations regarding driving, it can be veeery frustrating to understand all of that. ALL BEST HAPPY NEW YEAH GUYS!
I know Drivers' hours can be a quite daunting at first and there is a lot of misinformation out there.
Very encouraging video, I will keep dreaming to enroll for all licenses required, PASS and land myself a job afterward thank you
Thank you. Hope it helped!
I passed my

I have had to pause to come to the comments and let you know that this is brilliant. You went straight to the subject without rambling. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I will finish the video now. Thank you.
Thanks very much indeed
Great video, is there any government funding for getting hgv? Well worth the money I just cant lay my hands on the money needed, thanks
Hi there, very good explanation, what you said also for applying to category C1 many thanks
Thanks. Yes the same process is require for C1. That includes the Driver CPC!
Thanks mate. Bloody brokers

What a piece of excellent and advantageous information, I really appreciated it. My question is which app is best to prepare for the Theory test, hazards and CPCs? As I have checked the DVLA apps, it was only available as a subscription or pay for the whole year, which was obviously expensive compared to the third-party apps.
We use Driver Theory4all Very good
If I was you I'd buy the dvla official book I found that a lot easier than the computer software. And as for the hazard precision test the software was nothing like the one I was given on my test
@@supersprinter1564 The book is good and for some it's ideal. But it's bulky and doesn't do mock tests. But it's whatever works. The HP is a joke. Just dont click too early!
@Sean Pargeter I passed in December but failed the theory twice using the computer software decided to buy the book and after only a couple of hours I was scoring in the mid 90% after a week doing a couple of hours a night I knew basically every answer and didn't need to do mock tests well I decided not to do mock tests because from my failed attempts I noticed they are nothing like the computer software anyways .and your also right Hazzard perception is a pain as the software I was given to practice wasn't cgi and my actual test was lucky I scored 78 on my first attempt .my reverse test I found easy and also found the practical test easy minus a few nerves at the beginning only got 2 minors on that test found a new job 1 days after passing and my wages went up 12k per year and I do 4 hours a day less work well worth putting the effort in as the rewards are great 👍
Singapore heavy license class 4 can concert to UK license class 1 possible
Thank you
Very informative video for me!
I have a question sir?
If I get uk car licence recently. How many year do I have to wait for HGv license?
Thank you
As long as your 18 u don’t have to wait at all
However I would recommend you obtain at least 6 months on road car driving experience
It’s not ideal to go to HGV without much on road experience

Your medical for eye test if doctor thinks your vision is not good do they send you to your opticians to get your vision tested and prescription updated then go back for your medical? The dvla don't revoke your car licence just bcas you didn't meet eye test requirement?

Hello Shaun/Shawn, enjoyed the video, very informative, we also run a training school in Preston, would be great to get some advice from you as you seem tuned in and very knowledgeable. Not come across brokers, i have however come across other means of what is deemed 'value for money' contracts/contractors, they are simply looking for the cheapest option and not the quality of training required for a vocational licence. Again it would be great to catch up.
Thanks Robert for your comments. It would be lovely to catch up and have a chat
Thanks.

Good idea!
I advise people to go for glass 2 as
1, it’s less expensive than class one
2, it is a less challenging driving test to pass on a cat C that CE. If you know how to reverse a trailer before you start the class one course will help. It’s really not that easy to reverse a 44 tonnes, as well as uncouple and recouple
And then there the one hour on road drive and you have to give a good drive.
I must admit it can look easy but actually doing it really is not that straight forward.
3, the money drivers earn between class one and class two is really not much different
4, the HGV driver shortage is with the cat C more than CE
5, employers are not overtly keen on taking those on that skipped cat C and went straight to CE. It’s all about experience and they still prefer the cat C and then CE route
There are many other reason.
I am not doing myself out of any income
In fact my business is doing very well.

Hello I have few questions
I just passed LGV CPC case study
module 3a reversing test, mod3b practical driving and modu4 test demonstration are these exams each on different days?
for example 3a + 3b on the same exam day?
And if I want to take all the exams booked at once on the same day, is it possible?
thanks
Hi
You can do 3a and 3b on the same day
However you must have passed 3a to then take the 3b test
In light of this it may be best to do the 3a one day and then pass 3b on another day.
That way if you fail 3a you will have time to retest (only have to wait one day) .
Module 4 will no doubt be done on a separate day after passing 3a and 3b
Good luck

Once you pass the 3b the driving examiner will take your licence from and you will get a new one within 7 days.
Once you pass 3b the CPC card will be sent through automatically to you. You don’t need to do anything.

Trying to go straight into a class 1 job probably isn't realistic. Ideally, you want to go to a company that operates with different vehicle types and start on the rigids or 7.5tonners. Prove yourself there and you'll get the opportunity to graduate to the artics.

Who knows what life brings when I get older - maybe I suddenly decide to become a truck driver :)
It sounds like there's shortage of truck drivers out there from what I keep seeing and hearing everywhere. What are the realistic salaries full time truck drivers can earn nowadays? Obviously it varies from company to company but is it 20k, 40k, 60k per year? Just interested to know as an outsider.

No
You need to do the CPC before u can drive and be paid to drive.
You can do modules 2 and 4 technically speaking but it’s a ball ache as u can’t book the CPC case study test online. You have to ring the DVSA etc.
IMHO it’s better and easier to do the 35 hours as there is no exams to pass and you WILL learn more doing the 36 hours rather than modules 2 and 4
