@@Sewstine I saw Hamilton live two years ago in London and well, let's just say I didn't saw anything in the end because I was just all tears :'D oh no, the science is never too much
I am also a doctor-seamstress. When my sons were children, I sewed all their costumes and a lot of their clothing. Nowadays, I sew a lot more historically-inspired clothing. (I also reupholster our furniture and sew drapes, just like you do.) That double piping is beautiful and inspiring.
Now this is the kind of haute couture I can get behind, so elegant and timeless (that jacket rocks with a pair of jeans). Also love the STEM interlude, it’s so important to see how different professions/arts influence each other and commingle
I loved how you said "I did the medial... um, more central darts by hand..." As another doctor-sewer, I appreciated it (though I'm no where near your sewing talents) .
You are a LIFESAVER! I've been looking to make this pattern, and after reading the instructions, I was so confused on some of the more complex parts. Thank you SO MUCH for your detailed videos!
I love your new backdrop, and the pink linen was an inspired choice. I enjoyed Bernadette's video on making the Spencer, but the detail shows up so much better on camera in pink. You looked adorable.
I was waiting for this since Instagram!!!! If I had time, I would make myself a Spencer as well! This one in particular is so absolutely gorgeous! I loved Bernadettes as well, but with your fabric choice the appliqué is so much more easy to admire (at least on camera/ screen)!
Ms. Sewstine, I want to say thank you for the amazing videos, but I must say thank you for explaining the blood cells to me. My daughter was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis at the tender age of 3, and upon the results of an endoscopy/colonoscopy was one of the top 5 worst colon cases they have ever seen at Seattle Children’s. You have managed to explain to me this lab results better than her GI specialist and nurses when she gets her infusion of Remicade. I never would have thought that I would learn something about my daughters UC in a sewing video. I cried watching that part. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I love your version of this jacket, the pink linen is so dainty and cute! The medical stuff warmed my poor med school dropout heart - an actual medical career is no longer in the cards for me, but I still love it so much. Combining medicine and costuming _and_ Hamilton all in one video was almost too much good to cope with 😁💖 Ooh, and your Regency outfit was so cute!! I love the embroidery along the hem! Not gonna lie I was a little bit confused seeing you in jeans, but you were totally right about the jacket looking great with a "modern" casual outfit too.
@ Emilio Canals - That was my favorite look, too. I wonder where she found such well-fitting, heavy cream-colored leggings. All the light colors I've seen are see-through and don't fit so well in a non-stretchy way. They get sagging fast.
The medical interlude was incredible. Also, I squealed when you added the leaves because the first thing I thought when I saw Bernadette's video about this pattern was, "I can use it to make that pink spencer jacket from the beginning of Emma 2020," and your jacket looks AMAZING.
I love that this is more androgynous 🥺🥺 I've enjoyed learning about historical fashion, but I'd never wear a dress. This is a project I can actually see myself trying in the future !!
I love it in the pink! The contrast of the super structured almost military trim elements with the such a soft feminine color is really cool. It's so versatile and cute. I didn't know that friction pen reappeared if you froze it, I suppose that's good to know if you're planning to wear a project outside in freezing temps.
About the pens, I only learned that recently from Vintagebursche. In his tutorial on how to make detachable men's shirt collars he warned that the pen lines on the collar will return if you wear your shirt out in the cold. I also see some possibilities for interesting hidden messages. . . ;-)

It made me smile when you "corrected" "the medial" to "the more central" (it took me a moment to realize not everyone would understand medial). Love your videos.
Not only did she make a gorgeous spencer but gave us 3 amazing ways to rock it. This is gorgeous, thanks for sharing your process, changes and that surprise medical moment.
So thanks to you I found a new website and bought three books. I only just got it and haven’t read it, but perhaps Medical Downfall of the Tudors: Sex, Reproduction, and Succession would be a good addition to your library. Thank you for posting the making of your lovely spencer.

If you weren't inside I'd add a parasol to your regency look to cap it off but I also just love parasols so that might just be a me thing 😁 This spencer jacket and the AD cape might be the trendiest pieces of clothing this year. Why do I live in FL again where it's too hot and humid to wear either of these most of the year? 😂
this is so gorgeous!!! idk how many other people have made it, but so far I've only seen this video and Bernadette's. I feel like there's some applicable trope about the pastel one and the goth one lol. Both are amazing, and I'm kinda glad you did a pastel one, since I was lowkey confused at some points in Bernadette's video because I couldn't actually see the details she was talking about. Like, I had no idea there was double piping all the way around lol. I also appreciated the tip about the excess fabric by the shoulder. I'll have to check that next time I make a fitted coat or something. Maybe someday I'll make a version of this myself, like if I ever get around to making my OTGW Beatrice cosplay (since she's pretty obviously regency)
I also just finished re-listening to "The Royal Art of Poison"... jaw-dropping amounts of mercury being used! Haven't yet got to "Sex with Kings", but have "Sex with Presidents" (just released in the UK).
It's so great that you made it in a lighter color, in Bernadette's video I thought the pattern didn't have the leaf design at the shoulders because of the dark colour she chose. Great video!
It turned out so well and the colour looks so good on you! 😍 Please keep up the random medical science tidbits, it's really fun to learn something unexpected like this
This was an absolute joy to watch! I cannot sew at all but find it fascinating and soothing to watch masters like yourself. Also, Regency style dressing needs to come back, albeit modernized for today’s laundering and such …. It is such a universally flattering style for both men and women!! Just love this 💕
Was a lot of fun to watch and I loved the double piping the most. I plan on doing my jacket in black when I get around that the planned projects that come first. One thing I've used over the years is a red iron on transfer pencil to trace whatever pattern and iron it on. Or I do an iron on that comes out white against a dark colored fabric. Do this using my printer to make the transfer. I find it easier for me.
Why, oh why do people say Regency dresses look like nightgowns? Yours is gorgeous and the jacket is chef's kiss. So beautiful. I think it would work with gray or green, too. Or navy. Or brown. Such a pretty color.
I find that, for me, it depends largely on the fabric print used as to whether or not it reminds me of a nightgown....especially when paired with a little white ruffled cap. This one definitely does not look like a nightgown. It is beautiful!😁
Thank you for the excellent use of „medial“ and „lateral“!! It makes things much clearer! Also: love this combination of history, medicine and your craft!!

Look at you living your best ghiblicore life! Yaaassss
Your Spencer looks so gorgeous, the pink makes the sleeve details pop so beautifully!
This was an absolute joy to watch! I cannot sew at all but find it fascinating and soothing to watch masters like yourself. Also, Regency style dressing needs to come back, albeit modernized for today’s laundering and such …. It is such a universally flattering style for both men and women!! Just love this 💕
was NOT expecting that mini science lesson but very much appreciated it. I love the color you chose for the jacket!
UGH! This is gorgeous!!!! Why is it so beautiful!
As a fellow healthcare professional, I cracked up when you called it the "medial dart." I also enjoyed the sidenote about ESR!
It is lovely. Thank you for explaining how to make the decoratipns.
It’s so pretty!! Love all that detail work so much ugh. Excellent job 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Thank you!!
holy cow--seeing that pattern come alive in pink linen is exquisite!
Thank you!!
Thank you for the excellent use of „medial“ and „lateral“!! It makes things much clearer! Also: love this combination of history, medicine and your craft!!
YES!!!! Sophie dress next. Woooooo
This is AMAZING the pink ensemble look is perfection!!
For me, the most impressive part of these historic projects is the patience required....
