1. YES, it really is comfy! I somehow failed to mention this! :) 2. I used a new audio recording setup for this video...unfortunately, a setting was incorrect. This means the audio is only on 1 side/earphone...SORRY! :)
I really love how at the beginning of quarantine a lot of costubers were making their dream dresses, and now everyone is just trying to make fancy pajamas for christmas.
IKR! But loving this whole thing goning on here. It's my first time on one of these videos and i must say, you all are very interesting and intertaining! Keep up the great work!! 😂🤣😉😊😁😁
Not going to lie, something about the way you reference Bernedette in this video made it seem like you're the younger sister stealing your older sister's notes to prove you can sew just as well as she can. It's adorable and makes this seem even more wholesome.
The pad stitching really made a noticeable difference to the lapel between the first and second photo shoots. A tea gown has definitely been added to my list of 'someday when I get time' projects (though definitely not for this year's Christmas)
Honestly, I kind of find it funny that you were rushing so that you could get shots of the dress in the snow, after telling us that women wouldn't be caught dead in this kind of dress outside.
I was looking at tea gowns and wrappers reconstruction to give a little razzledazzle for the postman (I open the door like the grinch) and boom, your video! Perfect!
Just bought an xl microfleece robe to tuck, pin and sew as a halfway point between this and 21st century pandemic slump. It was a nifty exercise in draping and my robe is much more fitted and personalized feeling!
The cinematography is stunning! I feel as if I could step into the scene. I don't sew but I find yours and other seamstresses videos so calming and relaxing that I make myself a cup of hot chocolate or tea, sit back and enjoy. Thanks for being such a bright light to someone who is self-isolating on her own.
love the dress, is it gonna be one of those bernadette banner things where she did a video of things she still had small finishing touches on that she didn't sew for her videos. though i do love all the snowy background footage
I love the Victorian era, always have ever since I was little. Always thought I was born in the wrong era. This is beautiful. I watch your videos while I sew my daughter’s Barbie clothes or when I’m making masks. Kind of like a sewing buddy.
It turned out so beautiful! I love the color combination and that white front part and the neck ruffle make you look like a little Christmas fairy! So beautiful and elegant! And my "I need to sew this one day"-list just got a little longer today ;)
Wow... just wow! You set a hard timeline for so much construction and sewing! Such a beautiful piece! (Unbelievable how much work went into leisure wear back in the day... that's couture nowadays!)
Your skills with pleasing camera angles and mood music (not over your voice) is magical! I love it! I was going to fast forward but it’s done so well I don’t want to💕
WOW, this is a wonderful nproject and people rarely make things other than outside clothes!!!!!! Have to say, I like the way you worked the Watteau into this, very stylish. I look forward to seeing more
Everything about this video is delicious, from idea of "Victorian Cozy Clothes" (which I had been wondering about) to the candle lighting to the snow to the fabrics to the figuring it out as you go along to the techniques (curled pinning! brilliant!) to the finished product. Beautiful and inspiring!
Caroline Bingley popped in my head for a moment reading your comment, and I was confused for a moment lol. Then I reread it! Haha, you're right! If Jane lived several decades later, I could see her wearing this 😍😍😍
i feel like im gonna cry from how beautiful this is,, really amazing project 💗 ive been through a major creative burnout from art school,,, seeing this really inspires me to get back into sewing, i love historic costume so much
Love the lapel, how it accentuates the lines. I think a „Gehrock“ (don‘t know the English word, something like a longer blazer) would look beautiful with that lapel situation and a fitted back, maybe some little folds from the waist down.
Congratulations on finishing a beag& elegant gown. I'm so glad you had helpful people around. The finished product looks lovely. I think it was an excellent aesthetic decision to change the collar/neck piece. I missed how it attaches, exactly, but it looks great to me
My favorite tea gown is the Kimono dressing gown c.1880 It's made from an actual kimono fabric. I'd love to one day own a copy or replication. This came out so pretty 😍!
Beautiful work! I’m so close to starting to make items for myself (I’ve been sewing for a local ballet company instead for a while) and this is so inspiring. How did I not know you were also in Arkansas- with as many of your videos as I’ve watched, I would have thought I knew that already?! I’m just outside of Hot Springs. We just got a sprinkling the other night- however this cold had been relentless and crazy!
Hi there. Absolutely stunning! The photo shoot was beautiful. Thank you for a sweet Christmas video. You look perfect in the gown. Take care and God bless.
The lapel is the bodice part of a rever that has a collar attached to it, otherwise its called a rever. Even tho its a dress the long reverse bit and the rest of the length is called a rever...pronounced 'rev-eeeer'. :-)
No snow for the southeast corner of the state. I am glad you got it and not me. I love your dress. Horsehair is usually clipped and overlapped. This type interfacing was still in use for tailoring when I was young and learning to sew. I used iron on interfacing the last time I wanted that kind of structure. That worked quite well for a more modern jacket. I'm glad you got pictures in the snow. You are lucky it stayed around for you.
I'd love to wear this as my comfy clothes. I could actually leave the house in my at home attire to run to the store for milk and eggs! Instead I'll wear my new tee-shirt, thanks so much. I get a compliment eveytime I wear it!
One side of my brain thinking while watching: "where does all the fabric goes and how does this fit together?" The other side: "This is just perfect and all women should wear this dresses again!"
Okay, those wrappers were to die for, I think I have more to add to my to-sew list. And your tea gown is indeed gorgeous, I'd wear that everywhere and it looks comfy too~
I also ventured out into the cold snow to get video of my latest costume! It had a cloak but it was so thin it really didn’t help at all since it was 0 out!
I love, love, love this comfy Tea Gown. When I saw you playing out in the snow, it made me happy knowing there were still young people who still knew how to enjoy the simple things in life. I could see the joy and happiness in your face in not only what you accomplished, in making this gown, but in the world around you. I have subscribed and cannot wait to see what else you design. Many blessings for the coming New Year!
Hehe, someone probably looked out their window while you were out there and thought they were seeing a ghost. 👻 Really pretty and cozy looking outfit. 😊
I’m glad I am revisiting this video. You go over techniques that I have been recently searching for, but could not remember from where I heard about them in the first place. Nicely done, this tea dress is just Devine.
Beautiful! I wish I had a dressmaker like you, so many house dresses on the farm I would love to have as work dresses think little house on the prairie and some dresses similar to this one. I loved it all, wish I had your talent. What was the supply cost to make the dress? Also their dresses must have been really dirty each day dragging around the ground, guess you could hardly wear a dress more than one day due to this?!
I love wrapper dreses and yours is lovely! I understand the deadline you had due to the snow's imminent melt, and needing the exterior shots. But I do wish you would included footage of how you attached the white front piece and the closures, that's the part I was having a hard time visualizing. It would be great if you could a short update showing that, or maybe do a video where you go back and do the finishing on a two or three projects if you want to post regular length. It actually is really helpful and inspiring to see accomplished sewers having to tackle those last bits of finishing. Gives us novices a glimpse of how persistence leads to great results.
MY FAVORITE video of yours! The outfit was just beautiful and your skill at sewing was awe inspiring. The best part is that you brought the past to life by running and playing in ye old 1888’s cosy clothes. One request: is there any way to find lighting that allows the colors to show to their best? In one shot I was finally able to see the beauty of the red trim on the brown. So gorgeous!
@@BellaMaesDesigns I remember Bernadette explaining how the nap of velvet can absorb light or reflect light, depending on which way it is lying. So I know it’s a tricky fabric to photograph. But really, I could totally picture you over a hundred years ago, running and playing in your cosy dress! I loved the video. And you made it look like you made it in a weekend lol!
Beautiful garment. The fit is impeccable and so smooth (no dimples or ripples in sight - how is that possible?) I love how neat the interiors of your garments are. I agree with the other comments, that bridge footage was stunning.
This dress is so pretty!!! And you have such pretty locations for pictures! All of the shots of you walking in the snow made me think of Little Women; you would make an excellent March sister!
What a useful video for me. A few years ago, I found two large pieces of very heavy velvet (silk pile on cotton backing) in a thrift store and of course bought it immediately. The pieces are in dark green and black, 60” wide. One piece is about 1.25 yards, and the other about 1.4 yards. Neither is nearly enough for a gown or jacket, but either would be fine for long reveres (?)/lapels on a wool gown, jacket, or.coat. (A gown or modern dress made completely of this silk velvet would be uncomfortably heavy, especially as I do not wear supporting stays or corsets.) I love the Watteau back, BTW.
Oh this is the loveliest looking cozy clothes ever and I seriously would love to make a tea gown. To look so refined and yet be comfy is the best of both worlds and you completely knocked it out the park. Beautiful! Merry Christmas Bella
1. YES, it really is comfy! I somehow failed to mention this! :)
2. I used a new audio recording setup for this video...unfortunately, a setting was incorrect. This means the audio is only on 1 side/earphone...SORRY! :)
You may want to pin this on top, maybe less people will try to tell you about the sound.
I love the work you did :)
Well I can only hear on one ear so doesnt bother me! xD
I didn’t even notice!
I LOVED AND SHARED the Christmas music you recommended. The Victorian clothing was an added bonus, for sure!
Meanwhile, I am watching this video for probably the tenth time, and never noticed the new sound LOL
'cosy clothes' she says.
'DRAMATIC RÖBĘ OF MY DREAMS,' says I
seriously this is GORGEOUS and I am OBSESSED, AKNFDFJNSKGJ
Haha, it turned out *nicer* than I was originally planning. 😂
Aw, thanks Bernadette! ❤️
Do both I say!
Why not be comfy and embrace the DRAMA?!?!?!?!?!
Took the words from my mouth hehe
Bernadette Banner
Ms. Banner, I must have you know that I read that in your voice.
I wanna make one for myself and I’m a guy 💁🏽♂️ #EmbraceTheDrama
I really love how at the beginning of quarantine a lot of costubers were making their dream dresses, and now everyone is just trying to make fancy pajamas for christmas.
Hahaha! Great comment.
👌🏻👏🏻😂😂😂😂😭😭😭
There’s something uniquely humorous about hand tailoring your “comfy clothes.”
😂😂😂 True tho!
Idk, I feel like that's the best way for comfy clothes to actually *be* comfy.
IKR! But loving this whole thing goning on here. It's my first time on one of these videos and i must say, you all are very interesting and intertaining! Keep up the great work!! 😂🤣😉😊😁😁
And yet...what could be comfier than wearing your own beautiful work?
Seriously!
Not going to lie, something about the way you reference Bernedette in this video made it seem like you're the younger sister stealing your older sister's notes to prove you can sew just as well as she can. It's adorable and makes this seem even more wholesome.
Omg! You and Bernadette Banner are my favorite RUclipsrs. It would be like the best thing ever if you two collaborated.
Awwww! 😍 Maybe someday I’ll have that amazing opportunity! ❤️
The pad stitching really made a noticeable difference to the lapel between the first and second photo shoots. A tea gown has definitely been added to my list of 'someday when I get time' projects (though definitely not for this year's Christmas)

Haha! 😂😂
I was looking at tea gowns and wrappers reconstruction to give a little razzledazzle for the postman (I open the door like the grinch) and boom, your video! Perfect!
Haha, that’d be perfect! 👏
Hahaha just saw it as a movie in my head and made me giggle 🤭
Nice to know my post man isn’t the only unwilling/ unlucky recipient 🤣...
I probably should just make myself one of these instead of wearing my bathrobe literally all winter long hahaha
I'm in this comment and I dont like it...
Just bought an xl microfleece robe to tuck, pin and sew as a halfway point between this and 21st century pandemic slump. It was a nifty exercise in draping and my robe is much more fitted and personalized feeling!

@Joe Bennett Thank you.
Leaving your house in a tea gown?! How dare!
For real tho, this was a great project :)
Haha, I know! I might be on the naughty list now! 😂
I'd buy this pattern 😘
Luckily you don't have to buy the pattern, you can download it from the archives link.
love the dress, is it gonna be one of those bernadette banner things where she did a video of things she still had small finishing touches on that she didn't sew for her videos. though i do love all the snowy background footage
Next, shots of lounging in the cozy clothes haha. If be interested to know just how comfy the dress actually is. Look beautiful!!
True! Maybe that will be another video! It’s pretty comfy!
"Its not the best, its not the worst."
Sums up my life this yr.
For 35min the woes of every day life ceased to exist and I was transported to a magical Christmas winter wonderland, bless.
I love the Victorian era, always have ever since I was little. Always thought I was born in the wrong era. This is beautiful. I watch your videos while I sew my daughter’s Barbie clothes or when I’m making masks. Kind of like a sewing buddy.

Loved all the shots of the candle...it was a beautiful way to show time passage!
Watching this as I make my Christmas dress! I'm in AR too, I love that I can tell when you filmed this by the only time it snowed here.
Aw, yay!
Yay for fellow Arkansans!
The voice over is not in both speakers.... just the right side. Background music is on both though!
I thought its my earphones malfunctioning since no one else is talking about it! x'D
Sorry about that! I used a different mic setup and I think I had a setting was off....🤨
I thought it was me 😂 thank you!
@@akabaneaki I only had the left earbud in and I thought there was just a really long intro
I also noticed that!
It needs pockets . . . Thank you, Bernadette! 😂
Haha, I have plans to...just ran out of time!
Absolutely gorgeous!! Having the snow was an extra bonus. Loved the photoshoot, especially the bridge at the end!!
Yes!! The snow was absolutely perfect! ❤️
Your skills with pleasing camera angles and mood music (not over your voice) is magical! I love it! I was going to fast forward but it’s done so well I don’t want to💕
A lovely creation! 😍 The scene when you’re walking along/sitting on the bridge is magical! Thank you for sharing your creative genius, Bella!
Aw, thanks! ❤️ And you’re welcome!

I love that you keep lighting the same candle, shows the passing of time. I'd have gone through 10 candles and have a sub-par garment.
i feel like im gonna cry from how beautiful this is,, really amazing project 💗 ive been through a major creative burnout from art school,,, seeing this really inspires me to get back into sewing, i love historic costume so much

That bridge walk tho :0 It reminds me so much of Christmas in Switzerland, super nostalgic times. And the perfect setting for your beautiful dress!
Absolutely outstanding! !! The padstitching helped a lot!! It lays beautifully! !
I love the music. In the bleak midwinter is my favorite Christmas song!
Love the dress. The snow added to the aesthetic of the video.
Congratulations on finishing a beag& elegant gown.

It's gorgeous. You look fabulous wandering in the snow.
Brb checking my stash to see if I have the materials to make one of these RIGHT NOW! I'm gonna need an entire wardrobe of these!
My, it's so utterly beautiful that I'd definitely wear those clothes once winter makes its way in my country..!
Beautiful work! I’m so close to starting to make items for myself (I’ve been sewing for a local ballet company instead for a while) and this is so inspiring.

Hi there. Absolutely stunning! The photo shoot was beautiful. Thank you for a sweet Christmas video. You look perfect in the gown. Take care and God bless.
I love this one video dress! Makes it seem acheivable, so im excited to make one now!!!!! Its gorgeous and the padstitching is gloriois
Aw, thanks! And yes, you should! ❤️
The lapel is the bodice part of a rever that has a collar attached to it, otherwise its called a rever. Even tho its a dress the long reverse bit and the rest of the length is called a rever...pronounced 'rev-eeeer'. :-)
The fold over facing could be called a revers. Because it folds outward. Horsehair anything can be itchy. Best to fabric line over it.
So beautiful!!! I very much want to make one of my own now. It’s just lovely!!

One side of my brain thinking while watching: "where does all the fabric goes and how does this fit together?"
The other side: "This is just perfect and all women should wear this dresses again!"

Beautiful clothes and a beautiful view out of your window.
I am more convinced than ever that everyone needs the fabulous dressing gown of their choice. Nicely done!
Very impressive project. Beautiful finish.💖 Everyone should have a tea gown.😊

Wow! Looks lovely! Like hanging out in a full length nightie and dressing-gown!
I definitely like the second collar version better. Good call.
That's really pretty, and it makes me want to make one for myself.

Aw, thank you! Unfortunately, it was really hard to get the velvet to show up well...it's annoying, but I think it's just thanks to how the velvet is!
@@BellaMaesDesigns I remember Bernadette explaining how the nap of velvet can absorb light or reflect light, depending on which way it is lying. So I know it’s a tricky fabric to photograph. Awwww, thank you! 🥰
I love this. One question, though. How did your dress not get wet and muddy in the snow? And how did you dry it out?
This dress is so pretty!!! And you have such pretty locations for pictures! All of the shots of you walking in the snow made me think of Little Women; you would make an excellent March sister!
Truly lovely Christmas tea gown! Thanks for sharing this journey, at least so far. I hope you get it completed in time for Christmas. Merry Christmas!
Stunning as always wow looked so pretty in the show too xx
What a useful video for me.
A few years ago, I found two large pieces of very heavy velvet (silk pile on cotton backing) in a thrift store and of course bought it immediately. The pieces are in dark green and black, 60” wide. One piece is about 1.25 yards, and the other about 1.4 yards. Neither is nearly enough for a gown or jacket, but either would be fine for long reveres (?)/lapels on a wool gown, jacket, or.coat. Really beautiful gown, and I envy your sewing space!
This came out so pretty! I love your red knitted dress, too, it's gorgeous!
Yep. Making that. I have my next project. This is gorgeous
