The free-flight aviary Katandra Treetops at Loro Parque on Tenerife is one of the largest free-flight aviaries in the world. Together with Rafael Zamora Padrón, we are exploring this unique habitat and telling all sorts of interesting things that are hidden from most visitors.
In Katandra aviary you can discover many species and with each visit, you will see more details of the natural installation. The video is all about the colorful and wonderfully colorful parrots.
Rafa Zamora is a true parrot expert and explains a lot of exciting things about each species - including how they live together. Namely, Katandra Treetops is a huge ecosystem that has been working brilliantly for several years.
Visitors become guests of the animals when they explore the beautiful landscape and even build their own nests. For the safety of humans and animals, however, it is only allowed for the experts in Loro Parque to touch the animals.
In Katandra, the inhabitants also breed and you can see some animals in their nests that they have built themselves. There are also friendly relationships between the species - such as two young lories.
Katandra Treetops has a volume of 17,000,000 liters - just as much as the theater of the Paris Opera. This habitat is bounded by a network of 3,000 square meters, which is fixed at a height of up to 27 meters. The weight of 21 tons is maintained by large steel pillars.
Parrots have given Loro Park its name and he is deeply involved in protecting these beautiful animals around the world. He has already saved nine species from extinction.

Nun, aktuell kann man die Verluste nur grob schätzen, Gewissheit wird man erst haben, wenn man die Populationsgrößen wieder wissenschaftlich evaluiert. Da es dort aber brennt, rechnen wir nicht in nahe Zukunft mit entsprechenden Zahlen, die über grobe Schätzungen hinausgehen.
