The parrots of Loro Parque are well cared - this includes ringing and egg control. We accompanied the Curator of Birds, Márcia Weinzettl, and saw how it works.
Anyone visiting Loro Parque can see why the zoo in Tenerife has its name: parrots. Very many parrots. How do you keep the overview? The key to this is close monitoring of the aviaries and this is of course particularly important and extensive at breeding season.
Of course, breeding is not only something the experts do at the breeding station of the Loro Parque Foundation, but also in the Loro Park in front of the eyes of the visitors. Likewise, at the Animal Embassy, they can watch how a small part of the offspring is raised by hand, which happens only in certain exceptional situations.
Loro Parque on Tenerife is known worldwide for its parrot collection because it is the largest in the world. It is also an important basis for species conservation. The Loro Parque Fundación has already saved 9 species from extinction.

Behind it, there is a sophisticated system, because thousands of parrots must first be recorded. Each animal has a number that stands on a ring on the leg of the animal. Each ring is adapted to the respective species and therefore does not disturb the animals.
Of course, the parrots also lay eggs and they must be constantly controlled. This creates enormously important data for the rearing of various species and - due to the large number of animals - also in statistically usable number.
So this treasure of species so also a treasure of data, which is important for all parrot friends - from the hobby breeder you are a professional species conservationists. For many species Loro Parque pioneered and / or helped to optimize the species' husbandry. Thus, thanks to the parrots on Tenerife much has already been achieved.

Huhu, ich noch mal. Wir haben auch schon viele handsufzuchten, erfolgreich und einige die nicht so erfolgreich waren. Ziegensittiche, Nympfen und ganz stolz sind wir auf unser Bourke Sittiche.

Das ist cool, dass ihr schon so viele erfolgreich aufgezogen habe. Dass es auch mal nicht so gut klappt, gehört ja leider dazu - ist in der Natur ja auch nicht anders: nicht jeder Schlüpfling kann überleben.
