Is it just me that made a log cabin with my friends on the beach without a care in the world. Then thought I'd look at some tips and this came as a surprise
I've found that building lots of birdhouses are really important! Then you can make arrows at your base from the feathers if you don't want to go to the camp to get them.
the first time my friends and I played the game, we found out about the getting bones from burning the bodies accidentally. The first enemy we killed, we decided to just put it on the fire for fun
Just got the game yesterday on the ps4 & watching this I feel like a dumb ass 12 hours & i play like a viking temp bases & exploring all I got to show for myself is a boathouse lmfao
Im thinking about playing this with my friends but I know that I’m gonna shit my pants upon seeing these monsters or whatever they are😭 Should a 15 year old play this or better not
I highly recommend using a spear like all the time. A weak spear is only 2 sticks and a upgraded spear is just a weal spear + 2 cloth + 3 bones. It does quick shots to the cannibals, takes down all the bushes and small trees in one shot, and hunting animals/catching fish is easier with the spear (until you get a bow). I usually carry it around when I don't know what to use. Also doesn't block a lot of your screen for those who care about that. As you progress through your first days, scope out areas that the cannibals don't usually go. I've played through the game a few times, the first time I set up my base right in an area where the cannibals run through regularly. I stopped playing for a long time because I couldn't figure out why they kept coming right up to me on the early days. The next time I waited to set up my base and put it in a spot where they don't run through. For the first 10 days or so I was able to safely work on my base and watched the cannibals run routes near, but not towards, my base. Honestly I think lizard armor is fine, especially early game. Save your bones in a basket for when you actually need bone armor. Look for blueberries. You can make a pouch to carry them. If you can plant them in a garden or set your base up in an area near them, I would suggest that. They refill hunger, thirst, and energy, and you can carry a lot at a time so it's useful when you adventure and need food/water. Boats are pretty fun, and you can make a small raft for very cheap. A house boat is generally more useful but more expensive. Boats can help you navigate parts of the map quicker and safer as the cannibals don't seem to like water. Some people may be against this one. If you don't think it's cheating, check out the wiki and the map online. It can really help you learn how to craft and where to find the stuff you need to find. I know people think it ruins the game if you look at the map/wiki, but it's really easy to miss so much of the game if you just don't know it exists. Map also shows safe spots to make bases if that's something that interests you, although it's not too difficult to find your own.
Another good tip, the same cave that the map in compass are in, there's also the modern axe deeper in the cave. I find the modern axe to be the most useful tool in the game!
I wouldn’t personally. Cannibals always seem to show up faster, and in higher quantities if you build directly next to the plane. Set a marker, and find a good clearing to build if you’re new in my opinion. Helps a lot
"20 tips beginners". shows a massive base camp. Thanks bud. I can't even start a fire and im already dead from attacks when im just trying to start a damn fire. Smh. Great video. Helped so much
This video pretty much gave me the scope of how big the game can get. Ive been playing for just about 2 days and all i had was a few things and 1 log cabin that took me a while to make. Then i see you have an entite neighborhood sized platform. Really got me excited to play and get further in the game.
Fun fact about the happy birthday trap, me and a couple friends discovered that if u place a stone wall on the end of the trap (the part of the trap u can safely walk on) the cannibals wont jump above it, instead they would run towords the wall to vault over it amd as a result trigger the trap
@@justagamer6437 One mistake I made during my early gameplays of the forest regarding cannibals, was thinking the fighting system was just a button-smasher and ended up running out of energy which subsequently caused my defeat
My older brother who looks like he’s thirty was FREAKED THE FUCK OUT WHEN he encountered two Virginias and two armsies AND THOSE FUCKERS ARE HORRIFYING AS FUCK. And when I played on normal I didn’t even survive a day they got me so fast
They can’t swim tho! But there’s sharks in the water. There’s no where safer than the other but I think his plane strategy and living on water/ an island is your best bet!
Alright so real beginner tip, don't build around the plane, find the biggest village then head to the hut with the red paint then go inside the cave and make your way to the modern axe and the map, get out of the cave and go back to the red paint hut then go straight, you will encounter a small drop be careful and go down, you will then encounter a river you should setup camp near the beach or on the mountain on your left when you look at the ocean, there is only one way on the mountain and it's going around it so maybe a zipline would be usefull. You will get a lot of deer, rabbit, lizard, racoons and you are not to far from 2 crocodile spawn. The cannibals will rarely visit this part of the map but if they do you should kill them if you are not outnumbered and very important you should alway burn the body for bones and it makes the evidences disappear so you're less likely to get ganged up on. It took the cannibals 6 days to find my very big base because i let one escape, even with them knowing where i am i only get attacked every 3-4 days and mostly by mutants that would attack you anyway. There is also a fresh water pond near the base of the mountain and one on top of the mountain with plenty of fish, there is also a turtle spawn on the beach. Build lots of drying racks and make sure they are safe from attacks because you don't need to cook dried meat so you can bring it on your adventures (also it won't spoil on you). There is plenty of trees and plenty of space to build and if you spawn near the big village which is a really common spawn (head left of the plane when you're getting out) you will only have to walk around 2 min to get to your base if you respawn and if you take the coast line you will avoid potential cannibals from the big village. Another pro of this location is being near the big village you will be close to the red paint, modern axe, tons of cloth, soda cans modern arrow (15 in the same room as the modern axe and they respawn) tons of dynamite meds and circuit boards. Also if you follow the river near your base you will encounter a 2 hut village if you cross the river near the village there will be a cave with no cannibals and there are 2 watches that will respawn so you can pretty much make bombs for days. That's pretty much it i think. Long ass text but that is the best start of a game to me and the only one where you don't get constantly fucked by cannibals. Edit:Oh shit i forgot to mention, the guy in the video talks about ropes from the happy birthday traps, quick tip is to combine 7 cloth to make 1 rope!
My friends and I just recently started playing and we actively sought out the cannibals to steal their skull weapons. It's amazing how they react to situations. Like I threw the other cannibals the body of one of their kind and they actually get agitated and more aggressive. Needless to say, we learned our lesson so we began dumping their bodies far from where other cannibals patrol so as not to draw their attention. Also, we hunted lots of food and didn't know for shit that it would spoil and now we're making do with small birds. I also wanted to resort to eating the cannibals but my friends were against it...for now.
Little Tip Related to The Happy Birthday Trap. Charger mutants can charge over these traps and into your base. I've found that placing a stone wall behind every trap will stop the charger dead in its tracks. Make sure to extend it on the sides so they cant slip through the sides. Hope this helps!
Another tip. There’s a great video on RUclips on how to set up a houseboat with everything you need. Having a houseboat is great as you can live off turtles/ fish and move it when the mutants get your location or when you want to carry logs to a new building. Leave it in shallow water, so it’s JUST possible to sprint and jump onto it. Mutants/ cannibals wont be able to reach you while Sharks/ Crocodiles also cant get you.
A good way to get the hang of it is to play on peaceful mode for a bit. You can get familiar with every aspect of the game and when you go to normal only new thing to tackle will be the cannibals. Won’t be so overwhelming once you have the hang of the game and can toss weapons like a pro and have a general idea of where to go for items. Extra tricky w zero aim assist but I love it even more. All the more satisfying when you hit your target.
I totally agree that peaceful mode is best for your first guy. You can explore and learn where things are, how things work, how to build things, then once you feel comfortable, start the more challenging aspect of the game. I'm new and I really don't think I'd enjoy the game as much if I started on normal. It's too dangerous to spend 3 or 4 days away from camp while exploring. I've been scouting where I want to set up base over the entire map and learning things as I go. I don't care if it's sort of a cop-out. It's kind of like a "reality" version of survival.
Tanya S AMEN! Especially when alone. Honestly playing stranded deep was what made me think of it...it’s very similar but I think there is more to do in a forest even on passive. I got discouraged w stranded. I attempted to sketch the island layout ahead of time then fill it in as I played. Well after so many islands I unknowingly fd up and screwed up my whole map. Unfortunately my OCD won’t allow me to just say f it lol. I figured since I don’t really have any fellow gamer friends, cuz I’m a bit older than most and alas all my friends grew up (I refuse lol) that it was my best chance to get to know mechanics and get gist of the game w out having to start over every ten min. I spent entire time just running from savages on normal mode. Lol. Couldn’t find time to do anything else. Soon as I’d try to cut tree...bam...3 of em out for blood. I spent more time running into water than playing the game. Also a lil annoyed w the long dark. Wtf would anyone try to throw rods at a fkn RABBIT, of all things. The fastest flippn critter in the forest. Lol. So that is where I’m stuck basically. And then there’s 7 days...lol I love me some survival games but aye yi yi...it seems like it’s half luck, like if you get good, helpful junk or not. Don’t even get me started on Conan or Ark. Def designed for multiplayer in mind. Seems recently single player campaigns are an afterthought. I’ve been a gamer nearly 40 years and never thought of Video games as a team sport lmao. Fine. Make multiplayer til their blue in the face just don’t skimp on campaign to do so. Plus can’t ALWAYS play w friends... Just annoying I think finally tho it is beginning to go back to how it used to be...these huge platform “free to play” (ya RIGHT) PvP & PvE are a lil too common as well. The time and effort put into some of them is evident. Shame it is lost on those types of games. As a parent and gamer I get bent outta shape w companies and their addition of micro transactions. Especially to games that ARE NOT FREE. We already have to buy the PS Plus/XBOX online fee and then $60 for the game (if new)...like SERIOUSLY. Parents can’t afford to try and keep up w the Jones’ to begin w. Now their kid feels left out cuz he cannot play a certain way or who knows. Kids are cruel and find the stupidest ways to make other kids’ lives miserable. The world just gets greedier and greedier.
8:58 there's actually an infinite cloth trick with cave 5, the boxes that drop cloth respawn every time you leave the cave, you can use this cloth to get infinite rope
If you have at least 30 cloth there is a glitch. In your bag put the tray in the middle then put at least 30 cloth and then back out of crafting (while still in the bag) and you can give yourself all the cloth you need.
As long as you have a good source of cloth, you have rope. Combine pieces of cloth to make rope. Also there are turtles inland as well as being along the coast. You do not have to go to the coast to find turtles for water collectors.
@@ericabraun5116 there is a spawn on the beach close to the yacht they spawn in my base lol and I can always kill them without much struggle cuz they get stuck on walls
@@ericabraun5116 no problem make sure you leave space from where the water touches the beach like a few feet it can block the spawn or glitch them in your buildings to where u cant reach em
The number one tip is to avoid fighting cannibals and mutants unless an absolute must or you need the bones or creepy armor. There is really not much more incentive to fight them.
@@PitstopHead it's helpful even though I'm not able to make due to how I suck at fighting. Please mention how I suggested the idea. But I'm looking forward to it nothing less.
@@ME4TLO4F that depends upon how you are getting sick. Perhaps you are eating something that your are not supposed to or drinking unsanitary water. What version of the game do you have? That may affect what kind of advice I am able to give to you based on experience and collected sources.
A good tip. He talked about where to find the map. If you keep going further down there is two gormless cannibals. Sneak past them to the left is another rope. You have to stop several times on the way down to recover stamina it is that long. At the bottom is a cache of supplies, around 30 dynamite, but more importantly the modern axe. Can't believe it wasn't mentioned....
Easiest way to survive/win the game: 1) Build a base on a mini island off the mainland. Mutants can't swim so its perfectly safe. That sorts out defences, as well as food and water (turtles will crawl up on the beaches every day). 2) Build a barge with resource storage on top to carry items/resources back and forth. Set up the basics on your island : Some sort of permanent shelter or a bed (to allow saving and sleeping) Meat Driers Water collectors Gardens (aloe + coneflower are very useful to make medicine) Bird houses (for feathers/arrows) Rabbit cages (for food and skins, which are very useful) Various resource holders - you want to be going back and forth from your resource barge to your island, you can store your resources on the mainland but its a bit safer to build on the islands 3) Once you are well equipped, go find the map and axe upgrades from the relevant caves (if you are feeling brave, maybe even the chainsaw) 4) With your upgraded axe (or chainsaw) , you can now easily get enough wood to build a house boat - which has an insane amount of space for building in, has multiple levels and allows you to relocate whilst carrying the majority of your resources and equipment with you. 5) turn your houseboat into a mobile base of operations/fortress. Build lots of storage for all of your meds/weapons/resources, some water collectors up top and lots of drying racks to store food. Keeping your houseboat near the shore (close enough to get headshots but enough in the sea for enemies to be unable to reach you) and killing cannibals is a great, safe and easy way to amass bones and/or food (if you are willing to cannibalise the natives). 6) go around the island exploring/collecting resources/completing objectives during the day, pop back to your houseboat to sleep at night. Head back to your island base to stock back up on food/aloe(meds) as and when needed
Two tips I've found while building: 1. When chopping down a tree to direct it's fall, jump up and belly bump it. It will fall the way your pushing by jumping against it. Just be careful not to jump ahead of it lol. 2. When you have a solid wall sealing your base in but no cloth or rope to create a climbing rope platform to exit. Take the hole cutter under custom building. Rotate it till just a corner of it touches the wall. This will either take out 4 vertical stones or a single log. Stone is easier. Now you can run out and get logs. Just seal the hole and reopen to enter. An hope nothing chases you back lol. An keep stones on you.
You can carry 3 logs at the same time. 2 regularly and 1 by walking backwards from the log and mashing E. (Or X if you play ps4). You can even run while doing so.
My man is making a video giving tips then tells u to fish with a axe lmao, great vid but i would reccomend a Spears to fish haha (idk if Spears were a thing when hé recorded dont burn me if they weren't)
So, my sister and I just started playing a week ago and we have encountered a weird thing. We are now on the 22nd day of surviving if I'm not wrong and we are enjoying exploring the map. For the first in-game days we built a camp near the yacht but after the 11th day we got continously into fight with those mutants with a lot of arms and then they destroyed our camp so we moved on the little island near the yacht. We took some time and built the houseboat to explore more the map but now we have always two mutant chasing us, one of those with more arms and one spider-like. They won't go away, at night they are there waiting for us, during the day they follow us everywhere, it's incredible, we tried to kill them before but it was useless because we almost died, we don't have enough time to build anything because they are there and most of the time they bring with them other cannibals and other mutants. It is getting kind of odd playing this game because it's extremely difficult. Idk if it is us that are noobs (which is highly probable lmao) or if the game just hate us.
thanks to this video I've been sitting at a 180 day world, max strength and aestheticism and every item in the game, best part is, I'm literally unstoppable.
I started playing with my sister about a week ago and as soon as we spawned for the first time on the airplane, the cannibals killed us lmao, they killed us like 6/7 times before we decided to hide on the plane and wait until they went away
some helpful tips to prevent cannibals/murder them 1. Cannibals will check out campfires regardless of if there’s people or not, try to keep them far from the base (or just be cautious) 2. Build a base with high ground, cannibals suck at moving through terrain and can’t climb the simplest of stuff, this also gives an easy spot to snipe some of them 3. They are afraid of fire for the first or second day 4. Stay away from beaches, they spawn more frequently there 5. Flares from caves will distract mutants and sometimes cannibals 6. try blocking, nobody uses it 7. If you’re afraid of dying build your base into the plane, make sure it’s secure so cannibals don’t spawn camp you 8. Build effigys, you can build them when your sanity is below 90% and some cannibals early game will be less aggressive 9. Red paint around the map can be used to prevent encounters against some cannibals (Note that this feature is a little broken) 10. Fire is extremely effective against anything in this game, flaming arrows, hairspray, Molotovs do insane damage.
I've been playing The Forest for over a year now and I had no idea that you could make a bag that you can store more sticks and rocks in plus I didn't know that the stone walls were stronger than wooden walls Lol
If you have enough time to go ahead and finish the game, there is an alternate ending in which you obtain a special artifact. This artifact can be placed in the ground at your base and it repels virtually all cannibals and mutants.
A couple tips for the newbs as well as those of you who think you know what you're doing #1 As soon as you spawn you need to stock up on 3 things, meds, snacks and soda. Get the hell away from the plane. #2 AS SOON AS YOU SPAWN, AND ARE STOCKED ON #1 you need to get 3 extremely important items. 1. the chainsaw, 2. The modern bow 3. ARROWS #3 If you've succeeded in step #1 and/or #2 heres a weakness for every individual enemy. ARMSIES=Most of the time you can take a chainsaw to their backs/butts and they will stagger until they die (easy creepy armor) LEGSIES= Stay away from them. Do yourself a favor and keep running away from it while shooting it with the modern bow. (Only takes 3-7 arrows) CHICKEN NUGGETS= these guys are also fairly simple to kill. All you have to do is, (after it's done running its marathon) get relatively close (3-8 feet recommended) this will prevent mr nugget from running any longer. Now that hes stopped running, you can hit mr nugget once, twice, even three times (if you're lucky), back away, let him stomp. Rinse and repeat. You will get stomped once or twice that's normal but eventually the fatty will fall. Now clearly CANNIBALS are easy, relatively speaking, so just know 1 headshot with the modern bow will take out any cannibal. And finally we have SPIDER LEGS. THERE IS NO WEAKNESS! JUST UNLEASH THE KRAKEN ON THESE GUYS.
some things to add-on to your comment 1. Modern bow isn’t exactly required, I’d say the bow or crossbow could work and is easier to get 2. Scuba gear is a must have for half the loot in this game 3. Cannibals deal a lot of damage when you have no armor early game, and the damage only increases overtime. Consider having a base with an easy sniping spot and blocking can be helpful even though nobody uses it. 4. If you hear laughing you’re either insane or it’s a cannibal, either way you should be concerned. 5. thx I didn’t know a good strat for the chicken nugget man
I only play the game to build now and honestly I love your base, and I also build my base into the plane, right now me and my friends are trying to make a skyscraper.
I enjoyed this video a lot, and learned some really useful info! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and making great content. I just started The Forest and I am hooked, so many things my bf and I will be able to do more efficiently now in the game. Thanks again
I think the log sled is very worth it. When building a large structure, it makes it easy to carry around 12 logs and once and transport them quickly. Log sleds can also be used to carry multiple cannibal bodies
Bro me and my 2 friends were grinding for like 2 days for logs to make the 181 log house just to end up laughing our asses off cause of how small it was

Same here, even worse when one giant cannibal stomped it and we had no house anymore
I started playing this with my wife last night. We spent about 2 days looking for a place to set up camp away from cannibals but not too far that its inconvenient to get resources. Eventually she said "lets just build here. Everywhere has cannibals" We set up on a cliffside not far from a beach with 2 respawning turtles which are great food. Turns out the biggest cannibal camp is a 20-second sprint west of our base 😅
I got a tip, if you want to build a 100% safe base. Build on the two rocks in the center of a pond by a cannibal camp. The pond is near the yacht. Build a small raft and log holder on it then set your foundation and build your house how you like it. The pond is too deep, if cannibals or mutants try to attack they drown and die.
I also stick to the plane area, I have started yesterday and had the idea of building the small default house sticking to the plane in an angle that make it hard for the AI to enter, seems working to me for now.
12:46 I'm close to that area I always get taken there but I have a zipline near a cliff so I can use it to get all the way over to my base if I get taken XD
Is it possible to start in peaceful mode and then switch? I'm having a hard time setting a base up. I must be doing something ridiculous as I got attacked on my first night by two cannibals, shortly followed by four. It isn't manageable for me to build a base at night whilst watching your back and healing/drinking/staying warm. Are there any tips to reduce the risk of me being attacked?
just staarted playing a few days ago, I found that those log traps are useful against the cowman or rhino, if you use them as a wall he cant get threw them, nothing can actually, so far, other than the day 40 enemy
A video like this should be obligatory before starting the game. I started the game with zero clue what the game was like, or really about and after an hour I was dead. The game does not seem to have a tutorial. And the controls are NOT very intuitive. You will find yourself in combat with no clue how to use a weapon in game, or even equip one! This is not the kind of gam that you can pickup as you play it, like say, Fallout, or the Elder Scrolls. Nice video, thanks dude.
Yeah, I agree. Not good tips for new players in my opinion. I choose to live at the coast most of the time or near it. I lived at the top in the snow once and it's hard af.
Until i can get familiar with this game i am very thankful for peaceful mode i can build and craft and explore to my hearts content wish more games had a feature like that
@@PitstopHead I find that using spears are more helpful with catching fish than with the axe. And exploring and looting is encouraged to get really good gear. Even the skull club from a cannibal which is slow does a lot of damage. I suck at fighting and the many controls on the ps4 controller messes me up all the time so I die quite often.
@@bethanydavis9023 I use a bow and takes about three arrows on a weak cannibal and about 7 on an armored one. Though I did get luckt and found a bunch of arrows in golden suitcases so I'll have to test it out on bone arrows. I got the game about 2 days ago 👍
"Rope becomes more scarce later in the game" There are actually a couple areas with respawning rope. The villages often have a noose or two you can snag a rope from (and cloth from effigies) and there are areas you will come across later with a ton of respawning rope in it.
I am glad you made this and that I watched it. I wouldn't so much call it 'Beginner's Tips', though there are some. It's more of tips for a particular playing style. I've played about 12 hours (about 20 game days), and now I am checking out tips. Thanks!
Bought this game on a whim. And honestly I like it I don’t generally do the survival game cause it’s a bore fest. With rust you get hanged up on constantly. With this though it’s not the same glad I bought it
@@PitstopHead idk maybe the room I’m in is too bright even with the brightness to the max and torch, lighter, campfire etc it’s almost pitch black and almost impossible to play
I mean if you just make a boat house you don't ever need to worry about cannibals or mutants, and you can make a smaller base on one of the islands, maybe that would work better since you wouldn't even need to set traps.
@@PitstopHead I'm still a beginner. After practicing in peaceful with some weapons with hunting for a bit I'm doing better. After seeing a tip in the loading screen that you can hide in bushes to avoid enemies it worked fantastically the first bunch of days with mud and a bit of stealth armor with crouching and what not. I panicked after seeing a patrol and tried it and was stunned with how well it works. After a bunch of days though when the fast greys and armored dudes start coming out is when it doesn't work as well anymore. Still works a little bit once and a while though.
@@PitstopHead also, Sprinting and Swimming underwater while sprinting will help increase stamina stat over time. Swinging light fast weapon that takes less stamina repeatedly will help increase strength. Swing while running in freetime.
@@bethanydavis9023 wow didn't know this game was that deep into the stats. Thanks for the tip. One problem I have with the building is the fact that some items don't auto clip and that there is only one way rotation and not having the freedom to rotate it however you want. Also I'm not sure how else to get pure water besides the turtle shell/soda cans. 😒 Other than that I'm enjoyinh the survival aspect of it. Me and my friend were going to get it last year, but got pvz battle for neighborville. There was a sale on it and decided to swoop it before thr sale ended. Glad we got the game 👍
@@a_friendly_idiot for another way of pure water you can pick up a pot from a campsite. Equip and Use the pot in the area you would drink dirty water(pond or lake) to scoop up the dirty water. Boil it over the fire to clean it. You may also be able to add berries and meat to the boiling water to make soup. If you make a water skin you can collect pure water from boiled water or collected rain water. It works like a berry pouch. Now I want you to experiment and figure some things out on your own but you can still ask for more advice. Mess around and see what you can do and figure some things out in peaceful if you need some time to get acquainted with the game without the constant threat of cannibals. Explore caves and whatnot. Figure out the island layout by exploring, it helps with references from sources and personal knowledge. I'm not that good at the game or that knowledgeable but I can make due with what I know and figure stuff out.
I'm still fairly new to the game with only around 32 hours playtime, but one bit of advice I can already ad onto something in this video is instead of using the axe and trying to chop the fish, just make a spear. It's so much easier and you don't have to worry about getting so close to the fish and trying to hit it just right. Just poke it and you're done. It's much easier

Man, playing this game with zero knowledge or experience and learning more about this game will always be my favorite experience.
Yessss I found out how to make arrows and get feathers and small things like that by myself and I’m just in awe of the game

Fun fact about the happy birthday trap, me and a couple friends discovered that if u place a stone wall on the end of the trap (the part of the trap u can safely walk on) the cannibals wont jump above it, instead they would run towords the wall to vault over it amd as a result trigger the trap
I’m definitely gonna try that out!! Had a ton of experience where the cannibalis just jumps over 🤣

Punctuation. Holy shit.
It’s a great game
Eating limps is great it actually gives u a decent amount of health back compared to regular animal meat
Eating limbs gives you a trophy after a few helpings of them on the fire
If you recently started playing be scared of the worm mutant it is no doubt the worst
@Sasha05 that’s it but sadly it’s worse than that it has multiple forms
The slingshot is great when fishing... It can also be used in some cave ponds where the fish are hard to see.
Great tip! Thanks
Little Tip Related to The Happy Birthday Trap. Charger mutants can charge over these traps and into your base. I've found that placing a stone wall behind every trap will stop the charger dead in its tracks. Make sure to extend it on the sides so they cant slip through the sides. Hope this helps!
Great Tip!
Holy shit.. I can't even imagine how long this base took to build
It was a labour of love
Another tip.
There’s a great video on RUclips on how to set up a houseboat with everything you need. Having a houseboat is great as you can live off turtles/ fish and move it when the mutants get your location or when you want to carry logs to a new building.
Leave it in shallow water, so it’s JUST possible to sprint and jump onto it. Mutants/ cannibals wont be able to reach you while Sharks/ Crocodiles also cant get you.
I've been playing this game with my mates for a while now and the trap tips in this helped a lot! Cheers
EmptyReceipt 2000 no problem I’m glad it helped 👍

AMEN!
And then there’s 7 days...lol
I love me some survival games but aye yi yi...it seems like it’s half luck, like if you get good, helpful junk or not.
Just annoying
I think finally tho it is beginning to go back to how it used to be...these huge platform “free to play” (ya RIGHT) PvP & PvE are a lil too common as well.

@@honorableshinobi5129 sounds like that would only work with multiplayer as the tray is only in multiplayer to give items to others

As long as you have a good source of cloth, you have rope. Combine pieces of cloth to make rope. Also there are turtles inland as well as being along the coast. You do not have to go to the coast to find turtles for water collectors.

The number one tip is to avoid fighting cannibals and mutants unless an absolute must or you need the bones or creepy armor. There is really not much more incentive to fight them.

Easiest way to survive/win the game:
1) Build a base on a mini island off the mainland. Mutants can't swim so its perfectly safe. That sorts out defences, as well as food and water (turtles will crawl up on the beaches every day).
2) Build a barge with resource storage on top to carry items/resources back and forth. Set up the basics on your island :
Some sort of permanent shelter or a bed (to allow saving and sleeping)
Meat Driers
Water collectors
Gardens (aloe + coneflower are very useful to make medicine)
Bird houses (for feathers/arrows)
Rabbit cages (for food and skins, which are very useful)
Various resource holders - you want to be going back and forth from your resource barge to your island, you can store your resources on the mainland but its a bit safer to build on the islands
3) Once you are well equipped, go find the map and axe upgrades from the relevant caves (if you are feeling brave, maybe even the chainsaw)
4) With your upgraded axe (or chainsaw) , you can now easily get enough wood to build a house boat - which has an insane amount of space for building in, has multiple levels and allows you to relocate whilst carrying the majority of your resources and equipment with you.
If you make sure you are looking the way you want it to fall when you make the final cut it will fall whatever way your facing.
You can carry 3 logs at the same time. 2 regularly and 1 by walking backwards from the log and mashing E. (Or X if you play ps4). You can even run while doing so.
Damn pits haven't see you in ages how you doing ?

Idk if it is us that are noobs (which is highly probable lmao) or if the game just hate us.
hairspray + lighter to burn them and then keep hitting them they will die pretty fast
If you have any bottles mix them with cloth and make a Molotov. Burn the fuck out of the spider man and hit him with clubs
Idk if you are still having troubles. But in my experience using any sort of fire against the mutants will mess them up pretty bad
Rope +stick+rock= stone axe. Stone axe+cloth=being able to light it on fire
Everyone gets those first 2 giant mutants on the 10th night. Using large traps and explosives (such as bombs or molotovs) work berd
thanks to this video I've been sitting at a 180 day world, max strength and aestheticism and every item in the game, best part is, I'm literally unstoppable.
Sounds like you nailed it - well done
I swear I encounter cannibals as soon as daylight hits 0 days survived like 6 times in a row 😭😭
I started playing with my sister about a week ago and as soon as we spawned for the first time on the airplane, the cannibals killed us lmao, they killed us like 6/7 times before we decided to hide on the plane and wait until they went away
some helpful tips to prevent cannibals/murder them
1. Cannibals will check out campfires regardless of if there’s people or not, try to keep them far from the base (or just be cautious)
2. Build a base with high ground, cannibals suck at moving through terrain and can’t climb the simplest of stuff, this also gives an easy spot to snipe some of them
3. They are afraid of fire for the first or second day
4. Stay away from beaches, they spawn more frequently there
5. Flares from caves will distract mutants and sometimes cannibals
6. try blocking, nobody uses it
7. If you’re afraid of dying build your base into the plane, make sure it’s secure so cannibals don’t spawn camp you
8. Build effigys, you can build them when your sanity is below 90% and some cannibals early game will be less aggressive
9. Red paint around the map can be used to prevent encounters against some cannibals
(Note that this feature is a little broken)
10. Fire is extremely effective against anything in this game, flaming arrows, hairspray, Molotovs do insane damage.

So we started at the highest difficulty, and damn are we in love with this game. We just grinded 10 hours, thanks for the extra tips!
When I first started I made my base right near the camp
I've been playing The Forest for over a year now and I had no idea that you could make a bag that you can store more sticks and rocks in plus I didn't know that the stone walls were stronger than wooden walls Lol
If you have enough time to go ahead and finish the game, there is an alternate ending in which you obtain a special artifact. This artifact can be placed in the ground at your base and it repels virtually all cannibals and mutants.
The artifact is still a little confusing for me.
@@honorableshinobi5129 what about it makes you confused?
A couple tips for the newbs as well as those of you who think you know what you're doing
#1 As soon as you spawn you need to stock up on 3 things, meds, snacks and soda. Get the hell away from the plane.
#2 AS SOON AS YOU SPAWN, AND ARE STOCKED ON #1 you need to get 3 extremely important items. 1. the chainsaw, 2. The modern bow 3. ARROWS
#3 If you've succeeded in step #1 and/or #2 heres a weakness for every individual enemy.
Where can i find the chainsaw and the bow?
@@eline7877 chainsaw is in one of the caves, you can craft a bow, but im not sure about the modern bow
some things to add-on to your comment
1. Modern bow isn’t exactly required, I’d say the bow or crossbow could work and is easier to get
2. Scuba gear is a must have for half the loot in this game
5. thx I didn’t know a good strat for the chicken nugget man
Me and my friends just pull out molotovs and torches and burn the mutants its very effective
Just swipe/throw and run
@@eline7877 you need the climbing axe if you want a quick exit from the chainsaw cave

I think the log sled is very worth it. When building a large structure, it makes it easy to carry around 12 logs and once and transport them quickly. Log sleds can also be used to carry multiple cannibal bodies
*I haven't played this in a long time. Got me in the mood! Great tips.*
Everywhere has cannibals"
We set up on a cliffside not far from a beach with 2 respawning turtles which are great food. Turns out the biggest cannibal camp is a 20-second sprint west of our base 😅
Just started playing this in vr and found this extremely useful. Thanks
I just noticed the game was on sale on Steam for $4.99 until November 29th, 2022 so I picked it up after watching your 20 tips. Thanks.
No problem...enjoy!
12:46 I'm close to that area I always get taken there but I have a zipline near a cliff so I can use it to get all the way over to my base if I get taken XD
Great video will play this soon thanks.
You cant switch on the ps4. You either start a save as normal or peaceful. You can switch anytime on pc apparently
Craft effigies once your sanity is low enough
i don’t know if any new players are here, but you can craft rope with like 7 cloth
just staarted playing a few days ago, I found that those log traps are useful against the cowman or rhino, if you use them as a wall he cant get threw them, nothing can actually, so far, other than the day 40 enemy
J SkriptXXIIII
A video like this should be obligatory before starting the game. I started the game with zero clue what the game was like, or really about and after an hour I was dead. The game does not seem to have a tutorial. And the controls are NOT very intuitive. You will find yourself in combat with no clue how to use a weapon in game, or even equip one! This is not the kind of gam that you can pickup as you play it, like say, Fallout, or the Elder Scrolls. Nice video, thanks dude.
No prob. Glad it helped!
I have 2 tips for beginners
1. watch Farket (hes the best the forest player)
2. what ever he says don't do basically
And never build by the plane bad idea, the reason for this is because its just not a good place to build for the cons outweigh the pros
Yeah, I agree. Not good tips for new players in my opinion. I choose to live at the coast most of the time or near it. I lived at the top in the snow once and it's hard af.
Until i can get familiar with this game i am very thankful for peaceful mode i can build and craft and explore to my hearts content wish more games had a feature like that
I got caught by two cannibals they took me underground and I never found my way back out it was insane
i started to play today and they caught me too, u need to grab the axe and cut the rope, then find a way out
I'm late. But this game is a masterpiece
The sequel Sons of the Forest has just come out as well
I just bought this game wanted some tips Thanks!
Zanester1029 no problem
@@a_friendly_idiot I die most of the time I fight regardless. Headshots usually require 1 arrow or spear.
@@a_friendly_idiot also, light your weapons on fire.
We built our base in the middle of geese lake....enemies would drown trying to get to us so we didn't have to worry about the base getting rekt
If you let yourself be captured on the first night they bring you to the place in the cave where the map is...
Today they did it but I didn't found any map 😢 I was so much afraid so just escaped from that cave
"Rope becomes more scarce later in the game"
There are actually a couple areas with respawning rope. The villages often have a noose or two you can snag a rope from (and cloth from effigies) and there are areas you will come across later with a ton of respawning rope in it.
This kinda makes me want to forget about a base entirely. It would take a lot of patience and efficiency to make the base you really want.
With this though it’s not the same glad I bought it
For me when it’s night, even with the lighter and fire stick and camp fire I can barely see a damn thing. Haven’t found the flash light yet
Yeah it's just so atmospheric, it's cool, and scary!
@@PitstopHead idk maybe the room I’m in is too bright even with the brightness to the max and torch, lighter, campfire etc it’s almost pitch black and almost impossible to play
Hey got the game yesterday and was looking for some good tips
Thanks! 😊
I mean if you just make a boat house you don't ever need to worry about cannibals or mutants, and you can make a smaller base on one of the islands, maybe that would work better since you wouldn't even need to set traps.
I've been told by my brother and seen him play that you get more stuff done when you stay up and work through the night
Bethany Davis true but for beginners it can be more dangerous.
Other than that I'm enjoyinh the survival aspect of it.
I think you should mention how important a blueberry garden is for permanent food and water source.
Am I the only one who thinks his voice sounds like a British Bob Ross? It's soothing and everything
Thankyou so much for this intuitive video recently purchased this game and seemed to be struggling watching you create yours and helped alot cheers 😁
Geez, how the hell did you have time to build all that??? LMAO!!
No life lol
@@ayyye9459 Or creative mode
I'm still fairly new to the game with only around 32 hours playtime, but one bit of advice I can already ad onto something in this video is instead of using the axe and trying to chop the fish, just make a spear. It's so much easier and you don't have to worry about getting so close to the fish and trying to hit it just right. Just poke it and you're done. It's much easier
i feel like im watching nat geo
herpaderpadingdong lol nice
@@PitstopHead can you please give your save file
That screech at 17:16 scared the crap out of me! My heart beats still trying to find its correct rhythm lol
This game is so underrated.
It's rated pretty high. More like not as known as it should be
THANKS A LOT! during this pandemic, i started to play this game with my friends and we need more tips like this
