i remember beating this game for the first time a couple months back, dedicating so much time to building a fortified base and getting as many resources and tools as i possibly could. i think i got damn near everything in the game by the end of my playthrough. i remember shacking up at the bottom of a cliff, building a rock wall around my camp. i was just out of sight from a few cannibal patrol routes, which was perfect. i sometimes saw them running around off in the distance, but they never noticed me luckily. this game also legitimately terrified me at a lot of points, especially during the cave sections that i absolutely HAD to go through in order to get to the endgame area. overall, i think this is a stellar survival game and i hope the sequel is just as consistent in quality
Yesss, I've ready everything and to have the best parts of this formula added into the next game Sons of, I'm very excited to see what the next game has to offer! The building alone, especially later on sold me rather easily

I'm doing the same right now. I just watched subnautica below zero and I just clicked what was on the end screen. I have a lot of time right now because I'm on a road trip so these videos cheer me up despite the fact that I've been sitting here in the car for like 8 hours already. The only thing I'm kinda sad about is that my battery has only 6% left so I can't watch that long from now...

Never played/saw anything of this game. Always thought it was way to scary for me, but seeing you play through it made me realise it actually looks pretty fun. Might just try it out for myself later

my favorite part of this game is being able to plan out what you're going to build before adding any resources to it. you can make some huge bases in this game and that makes it 10x better for me
Honestly one of the coolest parts when you have some decent gear and storage when starting a new base! Makes the game so much more entertaining for me :D

46:00 yeah the forest is intentionally coded to ramp up the difficulty based on how you individually progress as well as the set difficulty. If you don't kill any/many cannibals, they will generally leave you alone and not be much of a threat. If you hunt them for sport, like you do, it will send harder and harder threats to you, which is what the changing colour and quantity increase here is.
It's honestly a great touch that I didn't think I'd enjoy so much, but I really do! Gave me a challenge and definitely felt the difficulty with how much I hunted them later on! Only thing I'd do differently is not kill them so much the first 50 days so I could build more, lol
The hilarious thing is, I just stated a new save and accidentally did the same thing. It's not even day 30 and I'm getting groups of virginias, babies and armsies not to mention hordes of blue cannibals. I hate everything. Im thinking about deleting it and starting over because it's just impossible to do anything.
@@asthinecrowflies If it's that's intense and a bothersome to get through the game right now that I'd suggest doing that as well! Just remember you have the experience and time spent getting used to the game, going in for another time will only prepare you and make you better!

I've watch a few Let's Plays about The Forest and I'm so happy to have seen you do some actual base building. A lot of work but so awesome watching you build and defend.
And yeah, that ending does a hell of a great job with the emotional gut punch.
I've heard a sequel is in the works, Sons of the Forest, and I hope you'll give it a look when it's out.

Honestly, I'd love to see another video on The Forest where you go more in-depth with exploration and base building. Those are probably my two favorite parts of the game.

Played this many times, always as great as the first time :D The endings are different, you can basically do it two ways. I love that. Just lacking some building techniques. Cant wait for Sons of the Forest.
Yeah, for how many miles(years) this game has I'm surprised with how in depth it goes for what the game does offer! It does lack in some stuff, but also surprises you with many other things :D

So thankful I found you from subnautica. I never played The Forest singleplayer so I don't really simpathize with your experience but in multiplayer it was so fun. My favourite thing in the game was when we got into a cave and found the deodorant we were shitting ourselves from laughter just burning eachother. Man this game is a masterpiece. Timmy btw :D

Honestly, with the exception of the sudden mass parties of cannibals, I love just building aimlessly. Making massive, sprawling bases! It's so easy to zone out and gather resources. I also love the character designs of all the mutants!
You're right about that, collecting and gathering resources to then build or make huge structures! It's super addictive in the game haha
There is a 'vegan mode' where there are no cannibals. I learned about it ages ago before the full release, you had to type 'vegan' in the main menu. Not sure if they've changed how to unlock it now.

Duuude! You are now playing one of my favorite survival games. That is great to see. Also glad to see that there is still a lot of people that supports this game. Just look at the views your video got. The Forest is an old game but there is still a ton of people playing it regularly. I consider this a chill game tbh lmao. Also, you should check out Green Hell. It's basically The Forest but x10 harder and complicated to survive but it is really a nice game.

Pardon my french of course, but seriously it's my pleasure to have and show you guys my reaction to everyone I've done in each video. You also had me sold on 10x harder then the forest being it survivability or just making it through a day! I'm on it ;D
I'm about 35 minutes in and have noticed you mention the rabbit cages a couple times, if this is covered later in the video or in any other comments, then no worries! Rabbit cages are actually for keeping rabbits that were caught by using rabbit traps. Once a rabbit is caught in the trap (reset by a stick like most other types of traps) you can pick it up with the option to kill it and put it in your inventory, or the option to keep carrying it in your hand and drop it in the cage. Just a useful thing for if you don't want to keep running out and hunting for them! I've actually never cannibalized in this game so my sanity didn't go down much and I didn't get the option for the effigies so that was cool to see! First video I've seen from you and it was great! Keep up the good work man! Edit: Lighting the supers on fire is one of the best things you can do as well, grabbing the flare gun is one of the first things I do because it is so useful even in the very endgame. Great commentary by the way! Fun and kept me watching :)
I wish I looked through all my recipes because I definitely missed those traps that I thought were but actually just cages set down. Next time I get those cages going I won't have to chase or run after all the rabbits I did lol. It was one of the first horror games i played with my cousin and we don't regret buying it, we know that the game is pretty old and doesn't live up to the new standarts but we still had lots of fun. The fact that I never knew about this game before and i didn't know that we would face cannibals on the island made it even a better experience. I remember when we got to the yacht and i found a picture with a mutant on it, that was the moment i finally realized what we would face in this game. Even tho i was prepared, i still had a heart attack when we met our first tribe. I really recommend playing this game atleast once!
Definitely agree with you there! If someone hasn't played the game yet it still holds up fairly well and is a great experience worth while! Lots to see, do and build for the game. Probably one of my favorite parts of the game was building a base. For how old the game is I'd say it's still not that bad at all!

A HUGE wave of nostalgia just hit me at 3:11! I am german so when I first discovered the Forest I watched it from a german RUclipsr called Gronkh and that's the place where he set up his base for one of his playthroughs. Haven't watched the rest of the video yet but I just had to comment that.

My fav part was always the building. Super satisfying watching the silhouettes of the structures become whole
I will say, that was a nice touch of the devs part to create this outline so we had a way of visualizing it before actually building any structure!
I'd never seen this ending sequence before......so cool! the animation and style still holds up today.
It really does! Was so shocked when I played it that everything was still hitting hard as when first released :D

I wanted to play this since first seeing it years ago. I finally got to play it a couple years ago and it was one of the best times ever. I was always terrified but always excited and curious enough to push myself onwards. This is an amazing game and I cannot wait for SotF.

as someone who has one play style in the forest I really liked watching you play cause it's the opposite of how I play normally I skip over making a spear and go straight for the katana or modern axe but you took your time to enjoy the game and I haven't tried that so it was very entertaining to see how others play

Just started playing this game, glad to see someone else is enjoying it too!
It's been such a blast to play and with so much to do as well!
I started play this game about 2-3 weeks ago. It’s more fun than I thought it would be. 1st base I built was getting attacked by 5-7 cannibals every night. Built a new base in the “fertile lands” no defenses and haven’t been attacked in like 40 in game days. I have to actually seek them out.
Yeah, I'd say it depends where you build a base and how often you killing any cannibals going around! But the game really does hold up quite well, even for a decade later!
I'd definitely recommend a in depth play through with friends or your self looking at the building aspect of the game and finding all the hidden items and blueprints for building new structures.
Oh and quick tip. If you chose to use a unnamed device at the end of the game it ends the game after. So maybe turn it off if you want an endless playthrough

Not sure about 200 days, but I could definitely try a more riskier play by doing some hardcore, but going through the game again to build and find everything! Fully exploring what the game really has to off other then story related stuff
@@RayofpandasGamingChannel the device at the end of the game is a emp generator that made your plane crash. It was used specifically to get to your son. That's all ill say unless you beat the game already

that was fun to watch, one of my favourite games. Once you get over the absolute terror it's actually quite fun! I'm not into the story line much but really enjoy the base building, I've got bases scattered all over the map. In trees, on the lake, on cliff tops etc. Zip lines joining each area as best I can ... it's just so much fun. I'd love to see another 100 days :D (Please look at defensive walls in your book, you won't be sorry ;)
I was thinking of doing another 100 days in the game seeing as I missed a lot of stuff and didn't get to building as much as I wanted to. I personally didn't follow the story as much, seeing the lab and a few other things was pretty dope, but all in all it was the exploring, building and fighting for me! I gotta try those ziplines to the fullest though

I like how it’s challenging and is not easy when you first play. I say it’s a good mix of horror but also fun and survival. I am about 20 days into the game and it’s definitely still the most scary game I probably ever played.
It really does offer a challenge especially with the horror scene it truly makes it harder for ne! I can say I had big problems early on even with trying to get the lighter working haha

You told me to watch this so I did! It was INCREDIBLE! Keep the hard work up. One thing I respect is that you make your 100 day videos legit. Like most RUclipsrs skip 46 days and fake it but you spend the time and put work into it. You should do a modded version of the forest cause it was awesome
Also, I think the massive algorithm success of your 100 days of subnautica modded is helping your channel. This vid gained 10 k views in 1 hour of it being posted and your subscribers are going up like crazy. Well deserved after all the hard work and kindness you spread throughout your community.
I honestly do try my best to keep it genuine from the days spent to the game I experience in the moment! It does take a while sometimes and can be really taxing on my eyes, but man if it's ever worth for all of you!

I've always been scared of playing the forest and for some reason, even building stuff like you these 'super' mutant cannibals, they always destroye them before i even get the chance to repair, you gave me the strength to replay the game trying to complete it and i did it! Worth it 100% even though it was too scary for me :D
It does take some time an multiple deaths to get through it but once you battle those demons there isn't anything you can't do in The Forest! 100% believe in you man

I wanted to play this since first seeing it years ago. I finally got to play it a couple years ago and it was one of the best times ever. I was always terrified but always excited and curious enough to push myself onwards. This is an amazing game and I cannot wait for SotF.
I'm right there with you. Going back to finally play this game was eye opening because of how much it still held up to this day and what other games could possibly be like The Forest too. With that in mind, the next game is keeping me on my toes for sure :P

The best part of this game is the graphics. It's such a pretty game. And very customizable with the graphics settings so it can work for anyone. I can't wait to see what the sequel looks like on the latest engine. Also if it interests you at all, you should do a X Days in 7 Days To Die
