The greatest thing about this movie was so few had a clue what it was about. The title revealed very little. Watching it was pure pleasure.
I watched this movie by accident. Two of my best friends watched this after a few bong hits. We never said a word through the entire movie.
I swear, I watched it thinking itd be some mediocre war film and got surprised with a damn good, excellent drama and war a d whatever else genre this is
One of the best movies I have ever seen for so many reasons.
They should do a remake and make Tristan a black African fella 😳🚬

First time I watched this I think I was 17 or 18. I went for about an hour or so walk after it just to let it sink in, one of my favourite movies of all time
Right? This movie stays with you. The story is so long and the characters grow.

One of the most underrated movies in history. No talking during this scene. Beautifully dark. Shows revenge really means nothing imo.

Reminds me of “The Godfather” baptism sequence when the Corleones’ enemies are killed. Revenge is a dish best served cold.
The thermos was an excellent touch to this scene.
Roscoe Decker was a cold killer. He needed a little coffee to warm up before the shot!😂

I rented this movie back from the prehistoric Blockbuster the same day I rented Braveheart. I was waiting for a ceiling fan to be set up in my house and had to take off work since the contractor did not give an exact time to install. I decided I would treat my self to a movie day. After watching both movies I needed fluids to replace all the tears from both movies! Exhausting, heart wrenching but beautiful movies. Legends of the fall is still in my top 3 movies of all time.
This and A River Runs through it are amazing
Brad Pitt is a great actor.

Accurate for the times. Not many women on the frontier, and a way to consolidate family wealth was through the practice of bridal inheritance, whether casually or formally. Love feelings notwithstanding, it wouldn't have been uncommon for a woman to marry the brother of her dead husband.

Such a great movie. One that is also fitting for the ages. The youngest with a heart and soul full of rage from the war, longing for someone to be with, and a love for his veteran father. One who never dealt with any of that and became a businessman who just welcomed women into his life of luxury. The other in between. Like my dad I always had a cynical attitude towards the federal government as being inefficient and corrupt. 😂 When the older and wise Anthony Hopkins laughed and said “Fuck the government,” I laughed too as that was a point I believed my dad and I would’ve said the same thing. It’s a relation movie. It was made very well and having some adoration for reading makes this movie WAY better.
I swear that woman did two things the whole movie of any account. She cried and she killed herself. If she had reversed the order that family would have been spared a lot of grief.
A story about following your heart and how foolish that is.

I watched the movie today and there is a lot of symbology going on. For instance the boogaloo where fighting against the American government and the western alliance California and texas where against the American government. I think that the president was on his 3rd term clearly a dictatorship. Regardless of democrats or Republicans "dictatorship is a dictatorship " so patriots Regardless of states fighting against the government. That was my take from the movie..
The gun that the brother’s wife used to commit suicide wasn’t made at that time. I wish they had gotten that detail correct. It was a great movie. I took my wife to see it when we were dating. We drove 30 miles to see it but it was worth it. It was an amazing movie.

@@kylecompton9781 Not that one ! That is a S&W model 60 stainless steel 38 special revolver production started in 1965 . The gun started production in blued finish or nickel finish in 1950. It is definitely a chief special . It could be nickel but that would put production at least at 1950. You are correct they definitely had snub nosed revolvers back then.
I’m kinda confused about his hair, seems really out of place in the time. Also the pitchfork being rigidly attached to the wall pointed in such a direction seems a little strange.
I guess I’ll have to see the film to understand.

I hate the Americana ending to that fight. Can't just let the hero kill the bad guy, he has to push the bad guy onto something that kills. Why take the victory and turn it into an accident?

Very underrated movie. That being said, Brad Pitt needs to either learn how to fake cry better or stop doing it. In here and in SE7EN were both just a farce.

This would have been a far better movie if it wasn't a 2hr commercial for showing of Pitt's good looks. It had so much potential but, hey, it goes it made him a super star.
