    It's criminal this video doesn't have 100k views at least. And seeing you put VIII's junction system in number 1, you sir, are a man of culture.

      Thank you, kind sir. It is always nice to encounter a fellow man of sophistication out in the wild.

    Someone might have mentioned this, but the new zodiac age ff12 allows you to reset your character jobs and rebuild at any time. Ps2 was where I played ff12 and beat it; halfway through zodiac age now, and I'd say both are equally fun and made me play the game in different ways.
    Junction system is the goat. First time I ever got to feel like a god in one of these games. Breaking the junction system + getting Lionheart on disc 1 hits me with them good brain chemicals.

      If I were to play Zodiac, I would want a mod with the OG license board, as that was one of my favorite parts of the original game, but I'm a boomer.

    I like that you put 8 at 1. I liked the junction system so much and the card card was addictive.

      @@gregtroyan Ya know what’s funny? VIII was the 2nd FF I played. IX was the first. I had an endless amount more fun with VIII’s system than IX’s. IX’s is great too though. What I don’t understand is why so many people don’t play the way I play: Level every character to max level when you find that good grinding spot. Get 100 of every item. Get 100 of every magic, Junction yourself to attack with the same element you absorb so you can heal yourself by attacking yourself. Go ham on every enemy in the game only using the attack command, and have a smile on your face the whole time. This is how I played it on my own when I was 10, this is how I played it after reading the strategy guide, this is how I would play it today, and this is how I pretty much play every FF or rpg game. I guess I’m a completionist? To me it just feels like the funnest way to play the game 🤷 am I crazy? Actually, that’s the funnest way and to my spirit, the only way to play each game in the series. Everything’s gotta be maxed out or I’m not “finishing” the game. Without Maxing out, it feels like there’s just more game to play, and why wouldn’t I play it.

      @@dakotawinston7677 I'm not a "max out" person, but I did level to 99 in XI before beating the final boss of base XI, and then I plowed through the rest of the expansions. However, 99 isn't really "max level" in XI, it's the minimum for getting a lot of things done.

    If you're mentioning limit breaks in 7, do you not also need to mention quickenings in 12? I'm sure there's other similar things for other FF's, but 12's the one I'm currently playing.

    • @gregtroyan
      @gregtroyan  Год назад

      I didn't find Quickenings as useful, flashy or fun, and forgot about them. Didn't mention limits in the other games but it's true, XII does allow you to unlock limits, but it was through the license board, right? So that's basically the same as spells if I recall.
      "Would a Quickening by any other name smell so sweet?"

    I would put 8 above 12, no higher. And no I've not misunderstood it. I love playing with it and take full advantage of it. I even level my characters around 30 before doing anything else to get acces to highest tier spells early on by drawing. I still don't think it's good. It's completely broken, and it's tedious, and it discourages you from using spells.
    I would raise 6 above 14. It still has some freedom of choice who you choose to give different stuff. 14 is just, leveling, and aside from from main story quest, it's very tedious. Even with the AI parties that remove queue time.
    I would move 10 to first, Tactics to second and 9 to third spot. I love those systems. I agree with the rest of the order.
    It's a nice video, good job. 🙂

      Thank you. I think your stances are reasonable. Level systems are not the hill I'll die on in regards to these games, aside from me thinking 8's system is rad. 😜
      You made some good points in regards to XIV, though. With VI, there's plenty of customization, but it felt really repetitive to me, and the rewards aren't as sick cool as VIII's.

      @@gregtroyan Yeah, the ff8 system does have it's appeal I admit. I do like building my characters but at the same time, I don't find it amusing if the bosses just keel over just for the sight of me. I'd like them to put up some fight, it feels more satisfying to defeat them that way. But that's just me, I do get your point too, and respect your opinion. 😄

    Sorry There is no way 8 would be. Number one for me. The whole Junction/card system is so tedius possibly better than 2 or 13 but cant put it higher than that. I personally liked 10 the most the sphere grid is just fun and intuative. I also would put 9 and 7 as 2nd and 3rd.

    • @gregtroyan
      @gregtroyan  Год назад

      Nah dude, Junction System FTW. It's the least grindy system in the series. Just grab some draw points on your way to do stuff and refine some tents.

  • @robbaskerville253
    @robbaskerville253 Год назад +1

    Wow! Yes! Glad to see 8 at number one. 8 is a great game with a bad in game tutorial. Once you work it out it is so flexible and fun. You didnt even mention the importance of doing your exams to increase your salary to buy stuff from shops and refine to magic. That's the easiest way to level in the mid game.

    • @gregtroyan
      @gregtroyan  Год назад +2

      I don't consider the exams to be part of level progression and it's more a way to get cash, but yes, those are freaking great, and buying tents to turn into curagas is chef's kiss. I should have mentioned that in the vid for sure.

    FF8 great level system do not follow the lack of balance of the game itself.

    The sphere grid is no different than FFiv, except you have to be bothered to go into that stupid UI and move your little marker around to spend points. It's so linear for the large majority of the game, that they should've just used FFIV's system and saved us the hastle of menu diving for abilites and stats increases. Sphere grid is simply a gimmick

    Including XVI in this list
    1. XII
    2. VIII
    3. VII
    4. XI
    5. VI
    6. XIV
    7. Tactics
    8. IX
    9. V
    10. XIII
    11. X
    12. XVI
    13. XV
    14. III
    15. IV
    16. I
    17. II
    I like the MMO-style progression systems probably the best
    XI, XII, and XIV
    but the AP dump into Espers/Materia/Equipment is fun too
    VI, VII, IX
    I love the junction system and how upgrading your Guardian Forces
    only opens it up more and more to be exploited if you know how
    VIII
    With the exception of the og license board
    I've never really been huge on the skill tree progression systems
    I like XIII's more than X's because the equipment system definitely helps
    fill in the gaps left between skill tree progression more than X's equipment
    X, XIII, XV, XVI
    The job systems vary pretty differently from game to game and a lot of them
    are just grinding to master them before you can really get into deeper
    customization part of those systems that make them so interesting in the first place
    III, V, Tactics
    And I don't really care for just straight forward leveling up to get stronger with little to
    no customization options outside of just grind battles to make a stat go up
    I, II, IV

      I really respect this take! You gave good reasons for all of your opinions and I generally find them to be reasonable, though I obviously find different levels of enjoyment in IV's system than you do. But I really appreciate you posting your comment in this way with reasoning behind your takes and organizing your thoughts in a coherent way. These videos were obviously made before XVI was released (at least the audio was), so I do appreciate you putting XVI into the fold here. It's nice to see we both agree that VIII's leveling system is great.

      I'd definitely put IV higher up with V and IX if we're taking Augments from the 3D version into account because that definitely adds more depth that I found kinda absent compared to the rest of the classic games ( I-VI )
      XVI's Eikon Ability Tree focuses on opening up the depth with abilities that open up combat mechanics as opposed to powering up stats and giving you spells
      in that way its pretty similar to the ascension grid in XV but without all the fat from stuff like the outdoors and AP farming grids which is why I placed XVI where I did

    • @gregtroyan
      @gregtroyan  Год назад +2

      @@LionessPaladin Gotcha. Yeah, the augments are cool, but honestly, I completely forgot about them when putting together the video, hahaha. I dunno, it's the boomer in me that likes the old school system of leveling up and automatically unlocking a new ability. It feels right.
