The Making of a Dangerous Game Rifle - .404 Jeffery
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 14 май 2022
- A classic rifle in a classic caliber. We show the process of machining the banded rear sight, shaping, finishing and checkering the stock, with footage of the finished rifle on a Cape buffalo hunt in Mozambique. We built this .404 Jeffery on a custom magnum Mauser action built by the late Fred Wells of Prescott, AZ.

This silent video explains why true custom handmade rifles have a delivery time of years!
Magnificent craftsmanship!
This is truly a custom rifle in every aspect. Most builders claiming to produce custom rifles are actually assembling rifles out of pre-produced parts. This is amazing to see in a time lapse video. Well done....and kind regards.
Every time I see a “custom build” AR I roll my eyes so hard I have to call in sick for 3 days. We get it you ordered an upper and lower from different makers, wow
Absolutely excellent work. As a gunsmith myself I really appreciate the quality of the work. Work like this is sadly not found commonly today anymore. Very well done!
Absolutely stunning craftsmanship, well done.
This video makes me incredibly happy & yet sad at the same time...I'm saddened by the fact that I probably will never own such a beautiful piece of art. But it makes me very happy to watch such a master riflesmith working his trade. Much respect from Zimbabwe 🇿🇼
blows my mind you can even view this video
Outstanding craftsmanship. Doing integral sights on a barrel isn’t for the faint of heart and hurry I want it yesterday crowd. Makes me happy to see this level of work today.
Also I’m not really a fan of background music but you pulled that off superbly as well. All in all an excellent video and incredible rifle.
This rifle is splendid, you’re a master craftsman. Congratulations 👍
So many people see firearms as a tool of destruction and there is a lot of truth to this, but many of them are works of art. Ever since the first caveman picked up a rock or a stick and threw it in defense or to obtain food, the firearm was a foregone conclusion. The fact that we advanced the craft to the extent we have deserves recognition.
Amazing craftsmanship! Stunning rifle! I hope we see a lot more from you!
Una obra de arte, todos podemos disfrutar de verla, aunque no de tener una, pero no importa,se caza igual con un 404 ,más económico...👍👌👏💫
What amazing skill in metal and wood creating a thing of stunning beauty. I would not have the guts to carry it in the African bush for fear of scratching it.
The Rws data 2350 fps takes it up some good notches. 400 Swift Aframe is perhaps best bullet for it in the US to be made there. And Woodleigh 450 grain on top.
But 320 hard cast lead or 400 is a cheap practice way also.
That's the load I'm using. 400 grn Swift Aframes at 2350fps
Incredible craftsmanship, when you can rasp file a stock with the action in place that displays a real confidence in your ability.
I thought the same
Skookum as frig! AMAZING technique and craftsmanship!
Mind blowing👏👏👏. Fantastic meticulous craftsmanship. Also, I love the music you choose for your video which is pitch perfect. Great job. 🙂🙏
Another beautiful example of your work!
Beautiful craftsmanship and a very soothing and pleasing video. Outstanding all the way around!
What an amazing work of art! Absolutely gorgeous!
É um exelente trabalho esta manufaturação.pois esse calibre gera fortes pressões na câmara. E também tem muita eficiência balística. Gostei 👍🌍
The Series Land Rover at the end sold me.
Amazing video Matt! It was a pleasure to share that experience in Mozambique!
Thanks Rafa! Same here! Hope we can do it again someday.
The finished rifle looked great, an old family relative hunted in Africa many many years ago using a .404 Jeffery using German ammo which put on par with the .416 Rigby.
Increíble trabajo artesanal, excelente trabajo en general, toda una joya de arma.
Reading Jack Carr's "True Believer" brought me here.
Beautiful work.
Beautiful craftsmanship.
Nice! I have a few Mauser receiver blanks siting on the shelf that i put on the back burner, you may have just inspired me to finish the work.
Beautifully done, thanks for showing us.
Isso é uma obra de arte que vale apena admira 👏👏👏
Magnifico trabajo,union de Maestro Armero,Ebanista,
This craft is part of our cultural history.
I do not have the words to describe the artistry.
Incredible talent! Beautiful rifle!
Craftmanship supreme. Beautiful film.XD
That's rifle is stunning I hope someday I can achieve this level of skill
Watching the whole process is very enjoyable !
Magnificent. We emailed, with excellent correspondence from MNR. There is a Hitari I would love built. I've exhausted almost every other resource. I remain, wbr, Daniel
Wow! Art and function together.
Absolutely stunning! I truly love the old British calibers ^~^ Exceptional execution on the front scope mount out of the barrel shank. Though I must wonder if there is any chance of upset due to the two mated surfaces as opposed to milling both out of the receiver itself being a monothetic block??? o~0
Crazy single block sight and action
What a work of art.
An Incredible work of art! Thank you for sharing it!
Amazing skill. I could not stop watching ! 👍🏻😵💫
Gorgeous rifle 👍 my grandpa’s is in 505 Gibbs I think it’s a Rigby. Hopefully you can make me one when I’m ready to go to Africa
il est tout simplement magnifique je donnerais beaucoup pour apprendre et faire le mien tous seul
Great handycraft and fantastic rifle build...
Wow. The skill in this video is outstanding
Stunning!
As a w. g. Jeffery, I have always wanted one of these rifles. Still trying
Absolutely Gorgeous ! A real treat to see something like this - The Color Casehardening is a nice touch - ( Bone & Charcoal ? ) --
Really? I think that it was all going fantastically till they put the Casehardening on it. Could have been something truly beautiful. Instead we end up with the "Pamela Anderson" of the firearm world.
WOW, just WOW. A master craftsman.
This is art at his best
Beautiful with art on your work.
Gorgeous work!
Que trabalho magnífico. Parabéns...
I can only dream about owning something like that
What can I say…you’re a Maestro!

Beautiful
Impresionante 👍
A work of art.
To Martin Reinhold - Everyone has their own taste & Preferences- To each his or her own- live and let live - Some would prefer all stainless & plastic- Many like color casehardening, especially those of us, who have worked in this trade, and know the skill that goes into it - When YOU Order YOUR Custom rifle, you are free to get it in any style and flavor you prefer- You're free to dislike and criticize the rifle presented in the video --- Have a nice day -
Fantastic work
A los ingleses no les quedó otra que copiar la acción Mauser 98.
El resto es pura cosmética.

Any tips on case color hardening or is that a secret, for some reason all you guys who do it well won't divulge how to get the old school colors, kinda like when you work somewhere or a recipe/ I HAD TO LEARN THE HARD WAY! I'm not telling anyone how to do it let them learn by trial and error like I did, that doesn't help, us who just want to restore a few guns, nobody's going to steal your work, top notch work by the way, bravo bravo 👏
Hey Eric, unfortunately I'm not the one holding the secrets on that. I had Turnbull color case harden the parts. Thanks!
@@mnrcustomllc8253thanks for the response 👍 Turnbull does nice work, it'll probably cost 3X what my old timers are worth, guess I'll have to learn on my own
Where'd you get the front and rear sights ? , I've been looking for months for something like that, I suspect I'll have to look on the European market because nothing like that seems to be available here
It’s disgusting! I think you should throw it away… but i’ll send you address of the dustbin. Brother you make me miss my big bores, rridiculously beautiful work!
It is like I'm having a dream
Amezing I like it
