Since I play cello I forever have the beat that we have to play for like half of the song engraved in my memory
Same here
I play 1st violin, but it's the cello's beat that I love most about this song.
My orchestra(8th grade) is playing this piece this year. You guys sound great!
Same my class (7th) and 8th are playing it right now
mine too
TheGamingFlygon 16 I played this in 6th grade an it was awesome
Easy claps
i'm playing it and i'm in 5th grade
1:55 that cello kid in the front on the side literally surprised me that vibrato. I'm in 7th grade and I still can't even do good vibrato on the cello
we are playing this song in my seventh grade orchestra class and it’s so fun!! beautiful song!
We just had a concert last month and we played Sahara's Crossing!
I’ve started playing this song on my double bass and it’s such a beautiful song
I know right!!! Especially the opening with the high D's and when we get to go fortissimo
were doing this piece for our spring concert for 6th grade orchestra
My class is playing this right now and it so amazing...I love it so much♥️♥️
My orchestra is playing this next week at our concert, hopefully we sound as good as this!
Good luck and (always) have fun!
That's not fair whenever I try to vibrato I look like I'm spazing
My 7th grade beginners class is already playing this 🤯
As my orchestra class continues to practice this piece, I have a few critiques to say as I compare my experience with this. Maybe the piano parts are played a tad too loud in the violin section? The reason I think this is, when rehearsing, we were playing the usual way we do when the dynamic is piano, but our teacher told us to play even quieter. I noticed then that playing quieter in the piano sections made the forte sections pop out even more! Another thing I have to say is that at times around the middle of the piece, the orchestra speeds up a tad.
Now, I still REALLY love how you guys played this! I just felt a want to give a bit of constructive criticism. Gotta help a fellow orchestra member out, ya know? Comparing the way my orchestra plays this piece to how it is played in this video really helps me understand the piece better. Thanks for reading!
P.s. Sahara Crossing is aweeeesoooooome
TheGamingFlygon I agree with you but keep in mind that they have to play loud enough so that everyone can hear the violins on stage
when my orchestra plays this piece, our teacher says to play the piano dynamics louder because we have the melody at that time. i definitely see where you're coming from and what its suggesting but i guess other teachers have different ways to play certain pieces. usually when one section has the melody, our teacher says that section has to play forte even if it says piano, but thats just my teacher. i dont mean this is in a rude way, im just saying that some teachers may have different approaches to different pieces. :)
I played this way back in 4th grade it was such a bop, surprised I still remember it
Wow. My daughter (The one whos typing) Is in 5th grade and playing that song. Obviously, I can't play that well... ;-;

i just started playing violin this year, and without disclosing major personal info let's just say i'm a little older than you guys and listening to this i feel like your playing is just phenomenal at that age like WOW
o- i just realised this was 5 years ago and now you'd all be 17 years old :O
Yes, it is true. Time flies.
@@jonesparg ahh do u all still keep in touch w each other? it'd be so cool if u had like a reunion or something :>
Well, they're all seniors now, and getting ready to leave for college. Many people play music in middle school because there is time to explore this, but quit by junior or senior year in high school. But a bunch of these people are still playing, and will end up in Conservatory or University music programs in the fall. Enjoy your middle school years! It's a time to discover the musician inside and possibly a passion to pursue in the future!
I'm going to play this song for UIL this year the first violin part is so cool!
2:08 OMG this is my favorite part of this piece !! my orchestra teacher loves this part too and always makes the first violins (me) play it so loud I don’t get to enjoy it ! but I love it and I love this piece
Ong. This part is divine.
I played this song in 5th grade for SCEMEA and I have loved it ever since and am so mad that Covid stoped us from playing this again in 6th grade
The cello section at my school has made this the cello section anthem
I remember my 7th grade orchestra was playing this. I couldn't go to the concert cause I was throwing up.
It happens.

Sometimes I forget why I chose the violin instead of saxophone, then my orchestra plays this. OH YEA NOW I REMEMBER!
I know both of them lol I like violin better
it sounds like it came right out of Aladdin
Siriously tho like every time my 7th gd orchestra played this my conductor Dr.Colb was like "put ur camel hats were jumping into Alladin!" 😆
It’s literally the (Sahara) crossing. The Sahara desert..Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt..😂😂. Aladdin was in Iraq the Arabian desert.

My orchestra group is gonna be playing this, but we only have 7 people! You guys sound amazing
Wow! Good luck with 7 people - you can consider yourselves an octet (counting the conductor) :o)
Wow ya same good luck bet u will have less people to mess up at the end
we practiced this in orchestra yesterday (sight reading) we’re preparing for a musical performance assessment.
Good luck with your assessment!
I’m a 6th grader and I’m playing this
Question, was there any basses?
Yes, over to the far right, hiding behind the cello section. This combined orchestra had 5 bassists .... but there were 15 cellists sitting in the foreground.
Double bass is the best!
My school’s middle school orchestra played this last year. I play cello and I thought it was a really cool song. I think it’s played a tiny bit slower and with more dynamics, though. Sounding pretty good overall!
RUclips has recommended a playlist starting with "Great Gate at Kiev." The playlist features songs that I played for orchestra in middle school that I've never searched up. This is the third song I've played.
this has got to be the only video ive ever seen that has 0 likes. great job!
Dragon hunter is I think the nets song I’ve played !!
0:14 that baby crying in the backround
Heh... I have to play this in front of a judge ;-;
(I'm in middle school btw)
Good luck!

Me and my orchestra class played this song this year and it was amazing
❤❤❤
What key is this in
E minor?
I was joking
LOL. I've had sillier questions than that one.
Cool
this is 6th grade?! i mean sure online earning and stuff is a thing but im in 7th grade now and can barely keep up with the speed
This was several years ago before pandemic, so they'd all learned entirely in-person. We are all of us catching up from having a lot of online learning, myself included. It will happen.
Ok also I'm doing alot better now I can play some of the 8th grader songs-
I am currently a seventh bass player and I learned vibrato is 5th grade.
Not necessarily. It depends on when you begin playing, how much you play, and how flexible your hands are.
Who else heard the baby crying on the biginning
My wife brought me here
Who else likes their own comments because nobody else does :)
LOL!
I playe din 5th
Congrats! Were you in a private orchestra or a school orchestra?
