Everything Everywhere All At Once Movie Description:
Everything Everywhere All at Once is a 2022 American absurdist comedy-drama film written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (collectively known as the "Daniels"), who produced it with Anthony and Joe Russo and Jonathan Wang. Michelle Yeoh stars as Evelyn Quan Wang, a Chinese-American immigrant who, while being audited by the IRS, discovers that she must connect with parallel universe versions of herself to prevent a powerful being from destroying the multiverse. The film also stars Stephanie Hsu, Ke Huy Quan, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jenny Slate, Harry Shum Jr., and James Hong in supporting roles.
Kwan and Scheinert began work on the project in 2010, and its production was announced in 2018. Principal photography ran from January to March 2020. The soundtrack features compositions by Son Lux, including collaborations with Mitski, David Byrne, André 3000, John Hampson, and Randy Newman.
Everything Everywhere All at Once premiered at South by Southwest on March 11, 2022, and began a limited theatrical release in the United States on March 25, 2022, before a wide release by Manhattan-based A24 on April 8. The film received widespread acclaim for its originality, screenplay, direction, acting (particularly of Yeoh, Hsu, Quan, and Curtis), visual effects, costume design, action sequences, musical score, and editing. Its portrayal of philosophical concepts such as existentialism, nihilism, and absurdism, as well as its approach to themes such as neurodivergence, depression, generational trauma, and Asian American identity, have been widely analyzed. The New York Times called the film a "swirl of genre anarchy" with elements of surreal comedy, science fiction, fantasy, martial arts films, and animation. It grossed over $135 million worldwide, surpassing A24's previous best-ever grossing film, Hereditary (2018).
Everything Everywhere All At Once is the most awarded film of all time. The film received a leading 11 nominations at the 95th Academy Awards, and won a leading seven awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (Yeoh), Best Supporting Actor (Quan), Best Supporting Actress (Curtis), Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing,. It also won two Golden Globe Awards, five Critics' Choice Awards (including Best Picture), one BAFTA Award, a record four SAG Awards (including Best Ensemble), a record seven Independent Spirit Awards (including Best Feature), and swept the four major guild awards (DGA, PGA, SAG, and WGA).

I 100% agree that Stephanie Hsu deserved Supporting Actress more than Jamie Lee (she was also nominated, at least!). I think with Jamie Lee, it was given more as a "lifetime" award, since she'd been passed over many times before (like her spectacular work in True Lies).
If they wanted to give her a lifetime award, they could've just done that. They did that with Morgan Freeman and Jackie chan. Not the Best Supporting Actress award, though. That shouldn't be how you do things. If I was steph, I would've been pissed. She damn near carried that movie. And You Never Know If She Will Ever Have A Performance Close To That Or Better Than That Again.
@@HelloMellowXVI Absolutely. It always bugs me when the Oscars pull that crap. They did the same thing for Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock - well-loved actresses who ended up winning for good-but-not-amazing roles, when there were much better nominees.
@@HelloMellowXVI I totally agree with this. Stephanie was a standout in this film and ATE every time she was shown.
100% Stephanie deserved the award way more
@@HelloMellowXVI I agree with your thinking here. The awards are given out by their peers in the industry, and Ms. Jamie has amounted so much good will, and is so revered, and is perceived to have triumphed over appearing in genre films, that they felt she should receive this recognition. It's definitely a career win rather than for this performance, and in that sense I think it's well deserved. I just hope Stephanie Hsu has her time, because she's one hell of an actor.
I start crying as soon as Waymond says "somehow it feels like this is all my fault" and it pretty much just lasts for the rest of the movie
Same
yizzir... then its just tears and awkward laughter for bout a half hour
That rips my heart and smashes it into a million pieces each time
Foreals that line hits hard cos you feel the weight of his pain dropped on your shoulders 😢
saaaaame
"Laundry and taxes" might be the most iconic/romantic lines ever in a movie
Weirdly enough it reminds me of the mom and dad in rick and Morty. There's an episode that made me cry because they get these goggles that let them see their alternative selves and they argue that they wish they hadn't gotten together so they could experience the lives they saw. They spend most of the episode separate just basking in the alternative versions but in the alternate reality there's a scene where they both are missing the other and while they're both watching the two "videos" the perspectives collide and they both express that they wish they had gotten together in this life.
The film deals with suicide. The daughter was destroying everything including killing herself in each multiverses and in each universe she searches for her mom. No matter what she searches for her.
Also, the rock scene where she hurls down the cliff and her mom goes after her, fighting to rescue her and finally joins her is actually the most profound especially for those who suffer from mental health. The rock scene deals with a lot of suicidal thoughts. Searching for peace, taking about discovery, then finally giving up and letting go.
Just like how she mentioned she didn't build the bagel to destroy everything, she built it to try to end her own life. To see if she could actually die, and just wanted someone that could feel the same empty feeling that she felt. The fact that that was her mother makes it even more heartbreaking. That scene makes me tear up every time
Dang, seen the movie a few times but I never picked up on that.
@@John_Locke_108 bruh
@@hhcdfhngdzjjbf579 this movie deals with deep depression and suicide in such a unique way
It felt like it dealt with when I have an Autistic meltdown.
It never fails to amaze me how this movie is able to consistently make people so emotional despite the absurdity of what you’re seeing on screen. It’s like they tapped into the subconscious realities that we all deal with daily just being human beings, regardless of background.
It really does a great job tapping into our subconscious and making us feel and process feelings that almost seem contradictory at first. Themes of generational trauma, depression and nihilism. 😢
I remember seeing it at the theatre and for the first part being a bit disappointed. It felt like a funny movie, one you can switch your brain off while watching, butt I generally don't like watching those at the theatre. But then I saw where it was going and was really happy with my experience. It is really great, and it does makes me cry every time...
They do it with their first movie as well. Never thought someone farting could make me tear up but then swiss army man came along
I think you are the first reactor I have seen who teared up at the kiss in the IRS lobby at the end, but I also found that scene very beautiful. That was what Waymond wanted from the beginning and she was finally able to give him the love he deserved.
I still wonder how she passed the frog statue that she swallowed. It had to come out sometime.
wasn't that a different universe they used for communication? her body in that universe died.
@@kavtoM No. It was when they first got to the IRS office. Before Alpha Waymond talked to her in the elevator.
@@crystalfire5564I'm guessing she threw it up in the scene right after her mind fractures and she "dies". She throws up for a good 5 seconds.
@@celestialdemon1316 Ah. I never thought of that.
@@crystalfire5564 He's also the first one I've seen that mentioned that the cookie must mean something because it shows up a lot in the movie whereas most people only talk about the googly eyes
It takes a strong man to cry openly. Thank you for your help shattering the stereotypes that say we aren't allowed to feel.
👏 👏 👏
“Ugly cry” is the correct response to this movie ❤ it’s the best existential crisis you’ll ever have. I’ve watched it about 8 times now, and I still sob every time- ESPECIALLY when Waymond delivers the “laundry and taxes” line.
Life legitimately sucks sometimes. Just find someone that will do laundry and taxes with you while you laugh.
Yup! The laundry and taxes line gets me every damn time! I’ve begun saying it to my wife as a term of endearment ❤
Same. Watched it multiple times and you always get a new detail you missed the last time. Really awesome work

Stephanie Hsu was definitely getting my Supporting Actress award if i had the choice. She was amazing as both characters Joy and Jobu. I enjoyed Jamie Lee but she didnt even have enough impactful scenes for me. Just my opinion. Loved this film 10/10
Sometimes the Academy "rewards" long time actors for roles that were not Oscar worthy. Elizabeth Taylor gets her Oscar for Butterfield 8 because her Husband died and she almost died herself. Jamie Lee was awarded for her lifelong contribution, not necessarily this film.
I believe people underestimate JLC's contribution to this film, which is not just her acting but her presence in the film helped a lot with the film's recognition.
@Ramathustra Yes, I agree. Jamie did her job spot on genuinely and perfectly. So supportive and professional and she was/is familiar also. The entire cast, crew, produces, all and everyone love each other! It's as like a miracle of humanity and humility. Bless them every single one!
@Ramathustra That may be so but the award is for best supporting Actress, not the person who brought it recognition. Steph was robbed
No lie, this movie helped save my life at a time where I was ready to end it all. I went through every emotion and every thought I could and it was very much needed. I'm glad you went through the film and let it all out my boy.
I hope you have a support system. Are you holding up better now?
@@fad23 I do thank you, it's something I often look back on and feel grateful that I've gotten passed at least that hurdle.
It changed mine too. I felt really seen and understood. I totally believe it has helped and healed a lot of people.
This movie hit me deeply! I am an aimless person, never really felt like I had my life figured out, it made me feel worthless ... This movie reminded me it's MY life, if I find value in what I have, that's good enough. Helped me find a little peace. Glad it helped you to stay among us! ❤
@@patricialdv5220 Thank you. I'm glad it reminded you that it's your life and your rules.
Goddamn, the last half of the movie has me crying nonstop. Googly eyes on a rock had me crying and laughing all at once. Waymond from filmverse's speech and Joys memories of him, Evelyn fighting with kindness and helping the people using her knowledge of the different worlds,Evelyn offering her embrace during the final battle with Joy, her following Joy over the cliff, the grandfather accepting Becky without question and even Evelyn helping rescue Racacoonie.
This movie shifted something inside of me. As a lesbian daughter to an immigrant mother (with a rocky relationship) this movie hit me HARD. I am so happy you reacted to this masterpiece. This is my fave movie of all time. I was basically just like you for the last 40 ish minutes of the movie. And its worse the 2nd time you watch it. For example the opening scene of them singing karaoke makes me cry every single rewatch. Even though at 1st watch it just came off as a cool shot. 2nd & 3rd watch of this movie, that scene pretty much encapsulates the entire film. Just a family living life and enjoying the small things in life which actually turn out to be everything. The layers to this film are masterful. And i agree, Stephanie Hsu should have won the Oscar. I love Jamie in this movie and she does bring an important layer to the film, but Evelyn, Waymond, and Joy/Jobu's relationship is the heart of it. Thanks for this video. I'll be rewatching it for months to come.
That's what gets me about it, I'm a southern white dude who only recently found out I have adhd, and Evelyn and Joy's whole scattered chaos of a life is what really connected for me. But the way they frame things and build the narrative, this movie has some incredibly cheesy lines and moments, but they're so *sincere* they still land perfectly. Finding out that one of the Daniels actually found out *they* have adhd while doing research for Evelyn floored me. That sense of failure and regret that Evelyn and Joy both express in various ways, knowing things are wrong but being unable to change. And yea, Stephanie was incredible in this, the Bjork inspired bagel-cult leader costume is amazing, feels like an homage to Homogenic's album cover to me
Ur not alone about Stephanie Hsu. Im glad she got nominated, but she legit deserved it more than Jamie Lee Curtis. She's fine in the role, but Stephanie played a much more complex and emotional performance. I was absolutely sobbing at the end with her and Michelle Yeoh
Winner of 7 Oscars:
Best Picture
Best Director
Best Film Editing
Best Original Screenplay
Best Actress Michelle Yeoh
Best Supporting Actor Ke Huy Quan
Best Supporting Actress Jamie Lee Curtis.
Really feel strongly that Stephanie Hsu should’ve been on that list.
@@RustinChole Why not award the both of them ? They could have changed the rules easily enough and made an exception.
@@mozartsbumbumsrus7750 sure why not. I just really liked her performance, it was crucial, and so well executed.

@@raphaelan7898 your grammar is so bad I think I can guess what you meant. But I’m not sure😂😂😂
I was the same as you Mello: bawling for the last 20 minutes of the movie. there's just something about humanity in this movie that strikes a chord with just about everyone when they watch it for the first time. such an incredibly impactful and beautiful film that deserved every single award it won. well, except for the JLC one. Stephanie Hsu was also nominated in the same category and I think if they weren't gonna give it to Angela, they should've given it to her. anyway, great reaction as always! ❤
I don't get emotional at movies, but man, this movie had me crying. I went into it not knowing what to expect. Lots of laughs, lots of deep thought, lots of crying. This movie emotionally exhausted me like few others have. This movie deserved the near total sweep of the Oscars it got. I definitely want to share it with my parents, even if it takes multiple viewings to understand what is happening in it.
A cool detail I love is how is the bagel which is a black ring with white center is the opposite of a googly eye which is a white ring with a black center. They're symbols that represents how Joy's and Waymond's ideals contrast each other perfectly.
It’s certainly something to see Asian/Asian-American characters that would’ve been one-dimensional, racist caricatures and stereotypes in any other film be fully formed and humanized by great writing and great actors in this award winning movie.
My brother and I are obsessed with movies and picky af. It’s how we bond. We have regular movie nights. When the credits rolled on this…….no joke, we silently kept looking back at each other and the tv with tears in our eyes for a good minute before we stared discussing it. I think it is both of our favorite movie of all time now. It beat out hereditary for me which is also A24
I saw this in theaters after the Oscars and wanted to see what all the hype was about. I also saw it with my mother. My mother and I have lots of turmoil we work through often and I have been in extremely low places in my life. I cried many times during this movie but the emotions that are the most genuine for me are when I am almost frozen in time where I am encapsuled in the emotion and small tears run down my face. This movie was definitely everything everywhere all at once. I understood the title of the movie by the end. It just is life, life is every problem every event in every place all at the same time. It was better then I could ever imagined. Thank you for the reaction MellVerse you brought some of those emotions back for me. ❤❤
Life and our universe can be very chaotic. This movie did a great job exemplifying the chaos and at the same time remind us of all the good things in our life.
EXACTLY! BEST REACTION AND REALEST RESPONSE, because we all know Stephanie deserved the award over both talented woman.
My bro, I’m always crying with you. Every time
I saw this movie opening night in the theater. It had me crying out of breath from laughter, to crying like a baby at that ending. This movie was an absolute ride, and was easily the best thing I’ve seen in like 10+ years. It absolutely deserved best picture and I was about to riot if it didn’t win
I agree that the best supporting actress should have gone to Stephanie. I would argue the shes to co lead of this movie. Her role is as big and as important as Michelle’s. But the fact that this cast was so supportive of one another throughout the whole press circuit, and I think that’s a beautiful thing.
There is very few moments you watch a film that gives you the feeling, "This is why i love cinema" and this film is one of them, i was in silence watching the credit in the cinema just like that may have been the greatest movie ever made, it holds a place in my top 10 of all time so i am truly glad to see one of my favourite people react to it, i was there with you all the way through bro and i felt everything with you, hope you your good and can't wait for the next reaction man 👊
This movie had no right being this emotional. I was dying laughing in the theater and then spent the end of the movie just crying. One of the best ever.
No lie this is the most entertaining movie reaction I’ve ever seen in my life. The way you enjoy cinema is unmatched. Thank you for sharing this with us!! ❤
I agree, he really absorbs it all...he kept mentioning the music in the movie. The music was beautiful and just as moving as the themes and dialogue in this movie.
I wasn’t okay for like 6 weeks after I watched this movie the first time. I’ve watched every reaction on the internet for this movie too, and I’ve never watched a single reaction to it without crying my eyes out, too. Just incendiary filmmaking.
Omg I feel vindicated.
This film is brilliantly written. And it hits so hard because at the very root of this story are universal messages about ourselves and the proper way to live. This film attempts to find an answer to nihilism. And it finds it’s answer in the doaist yin and yang. The pursuit of walking the path between order and chaos.
Within order, you must still introduce a bit of chaos and vice versa with a bit of order within chaos, and the way to live is to walk the path between the two sides. That’s why the white side has a black dot and the black side a white dot. Evelyn and Jobu/Joy at the start of the film represents each side without their opposing dot. They represent the worst of each side, the oppressive and stultifying nature of too much order, and the unbridled torrent of pure chaos. Evelyn must introduce a bit of chaos to reach her full potential and jobu must find order(Evelyn) through the tumultuous chaos to find peace. By the end of the film, both gain balance and peace is restored.
Waymond’s character is interesting. I haven’t quite worked out what he’s representing. My best guess is he’s representing the human element, the willingness and ability to find the “meaning” needed to buttress the individual against the hardships and suffering that’s inherent to life. He has found that the pursuit of love and good despite whatever hardships he faces, brings joy and meaning to your life no matter where you are. Choosing to do good, in spite of your own suffering, instead of giving in and tearing it all down like Evelyn nearly did.
Yes, but the reason I love and understand Waymond and Ke Huy Quan is because they are me I am them.
It's a Taoist problem (Evelyn and Joy) with a Buddhist (Waymond) solution.
Having grown up in LA, I'm not often starstruck or fazed by celebrities, but I gotta say... this movie was such a cathartic, transcendental experience for me and discovering that the co-director/writer lives right up the street has brought me so much giddy joy lol. Such a nice man too. Truly deserving of all his success.
So glad you enjoyed and appreciated this movie!
Stephanie Hsu should have definitely won BSA for this over Jamie Lee, she was just so good in so many ways, and her range is incredible.
I laughed, I cried, I had a series of emotions all at once. This is one of those movies that truly deserve everything it won. Everyone pulled all the stops for a top tier film. This will go down in history as one of the greatest films of all time.
I have a hard relationship with my mom and this movie broke and mended my heart. My mom won’t do the necessary work to fix our relationship and I am right next to Joy with her feelings.
Same.
I was sobbing in the theater from the middle of the movie onward, I wasn't expecting any of that. One of the best films I've seen in a very long time
From a person who saw this masterpiece in theaters 15 times and cried every single time, your reaction is one of the best and most sincere! ❤️
A lot of the shots and cinematography on this movie was inspired by Wong-Kar Wai films,i definetly recommend Chunking Express,Fallen Angels,In The Mood For Love and Happy Together.
Happy together what a movie, filmed in my city
I find it hard to say this to you without sounding condescending but I am super proud of you. For showing your vulnerability and embracing the premise of this film and taking the journey. Your EEAAO is out there. Yes, Hsu was deserving, but that isn’t primarily how the Academy chooses its winners.

Stephanie did get nominated. I read Jamie Lee won not for this movie but for her contribution to cinema throughout the years.
If you're not constantly crying the last twenty minutes of this movie then I don't think you're human.
As for Jaime Lee Curtis, I agree she didn't deserve the Oscar here over Stephanie Hsu, but I understand why they did it. It was a business reason. Everyone knows Curtis deserves one by now and has been passed over, but she's at the end of her career, so choosing this as a beloved movie to give it to her in makes sense. Hsu is just starting her career and will be in a lot of movies in the future with plenty of time to win another.
My favorite movie ever. So many lines in this hit home and hot hard. Ready to cry with ya bro
This film is my favorite reaction film ever man. To see the joy and emotion in everyones reaction is just so PURE. One of my favorite movies of all time
I love how the statement "Nothing matters" changes throughout the movie. By the end, it's a statement of confidence and ability to live your life to its fullest.
Man. I love the goglie eyes. They are so stupid, but everytime it appears, I cry. Especially in the rock scenes. It's a non stop crying until the end
Yeah, this movie had me in tears. I am half Filipino, and my mom passed away suddenly close to 7 years ago, and it threw me into grief for a good amount of time. It was hard, and watching this movie just makes me think of my mom. She was a stubborn, stereotypical mother, and being the Asian mom, she was pretty strict at crucial times. My brothers know what I mean. As strict as she was, as we got older, I felt that my mom and I were best friends. She would always look out for me, and I try to look out for her as best as I could. This movie deserved all those awards. It was brilliant, and I am glad that I saw this movie. It definitely hit me home with some of the stuff that Michelle Yeoh did. Bravo on the reaction!
Couldnt have said it myself any better! Fellow Filipino here. My mother passed away 2 years ago and the first time I watched this movie I was sobbing uncontrollably and I may or may have not gone into a spiral for a whole week. We were also very close even though we did not see each other eye to eye on everything. It's normal to have arguments and falling outs but this movie made me wish that I was a better child to her. Hope you're in a better headspace now, sending you hugs!
Thanks for sharing about your mom and how this beautiful film reminds you of her. She sounds like a very special person in your life.
Shout out to the musical geniuses Son Lux for putting together a score that may as well be another character in this masterful film. If you haven't, watch the directors The Daniels and cast talk about the film. They all poured their hearts and souls into this piece of art, and achieved so much with such a tiny budget and 38 days to film. Can't wait for what they do next! 🥰
The score was amazing and played a part in creating the atmosphere and emotions we felt.
We all got a good laugh out of this. And Jamie Lee got her Oscar for her body of work and how much she fought and promoted this film.
It takes a very very special movie to have such ridiculous antics and yet have me legitimately sobbing my heart out for a half hour straight when I watched it alone the first time. Shit really hits hard, man.
Omg stop! you’re making me cry more than the movie did 😭😭😭😂
this movie is like therapy, it's incredible
Finding out that Ke did 90% of the fughting stunts in the fanny pack scene, and aced the long sequence kicking the pack into the guy's nose at the end on his SECOND TAKE!! He deserved all the awards for this film
Wait this is the first movie you've seen Michelle Yeoh in? Mell you gotta see Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon then, the choreography is immense
Can we all agree that Michelle Yeoh is ABSOLUTELY stunning?! Also, Stephanie Hsu though 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I like these kinds of movies. When you think that this whole movie is just wakey and nonsensical until you reach the last 15-20 minutes everything just get deep on an emotional and mental level.
Saw this in theaters. You would have been just fine. Everyone in that place was losing their minds. It turned into a community waterworks, by the end. It was like a deep shared experience. We all just kept looking to either side of us and just connecting as we all reacted to the absurdity and emotional moments.
By the time we all walked out of the theater, we were all like a cohesive unit that just left group therapy.
I started crying at the rock scene and didn't stop.
I ugly cried with you bro. Don't ever hide it. We need it more.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it Mel!! I've been checking your page since you announced that you reacted to it waiting to see what you thought of it and it did not disappoint! It took me probably 7 reaction watches before I stopped crying along with everyone at the end of the movie.
yo, that cut to mello at the end just emotionally spent and all drippy face was god damn funny af : D
When this movie finished, I literally just sat silently in awe.
Same, took a while to process the feelings and emotions.
Not overhyped in the slightest. When I finally got around to watching this, I rewatched it the next day and still ended up in tears. That laundry and taxes line slays me every time (everywhere).
The amazing feats of this film:
•Directed by two relatively unknown guys who was most famous for their Turn Down For What music video. This was their second feature film.
•Ke made his long awaited return with this film after 20 years.
•Michelle Yeoh's role was originally meant for Jackie Chan but the directors rewrote the whole plot to revolve around the mom.
•Stunt/choreography team is lead by two self-taught brothers who started on RUclips. They also worked on Shang-Chi.
•The editing was done by primarily 5 guys who learned how to edit thru watching RUclips videos.
•The entire budget was less than $15 million.
•The first majority Asian led US film since The Joy Luck Club in 1993.
•Filmed in only a little over a month.
This little film ended up winning:
•Best Director, Editing, Original Screenplay, Supporting Actress, Supporting Actor, Best Actress, and Best Picture at the Oscars.
•Golden Globes and SAG Awards.
•Became the most awarded film of all time, dethroning Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.
👏👏👏
Some of these infos are wrong LMAO
Evelyn's very first prompt was to profess her love to Jamie Lee and actually mean it. It's so funny to realize afterwards that this was only possible because in another universe, they really are lovers, so maybe in Evelyn's desperation, she was able to tap into that version of her and actually feel love for Jamie Lee just for that moment haha
I’m sooooooo happy you reacted to this, this was one of my favorite movies last year!!!
This is an incredible film. So much done with such a small budget and everyone gave their all. It's so relatable and yeah, I cried too. Stephanie Hsu... gods what to even say about her performance? I hope she gets more roles and more opportunities to win because she deserved to win this time and was *robbed.*
There's not many movies that can have a grown man reduced to tears over a scene with two literal rocks.

Watching this in theaters was a surreal experience. Packed cinema, everyone just on the ride together. Screaming, laughing, crying together. Even at the end when we all left, everyone was in a silent daze. Untouchable cinematic experience.
This is a masterpiece in the truest sense. It is, in my opinion, film making on another level.
The amazing thing is that this film can have 5 minutes of almost total silence with text on the screen and still keep you fully engaged. 😲
Jamie Lee Curtis played that role on the condition that they would not pretty her up. She effortlessly shows a wide range of emotions from a character who is introduced as an antagonist.
But we also can't deny that the Oscars are political and perhaps Curtis' Oscar was kind of a lifetime achievement award. She has been a winning lead in hits from horror, comedy, and action. And for her awesome career, I think she is deserving.
Stephanie Hsu was nominated for Best Supporting and did not win against Curtis. Even though her performance is fantastic.
But, she did get to sing the film's Oscar nominated song with David Byrne at the Academy Awards.
Jamie Lee Curtis' acceptance speech basically acknowledges that this was a career recognition, because she thanked the thousands of people who helped her along the way.
So good on Jamie Lee. And I hope producers keep an eye on Stephanie Hsu's considerable talent.
I’m sure others have said it already, but no one would’ve judged you if you’d seen it in theaters. I was bawling in theaters and wasn’t the only one! Great reaction!
Michelle Yeoh has some BANGERS in her filmography. We at least have to get Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in here. Super Cop. Crazy Rich Asians. So many other martial arts films. A legend.
40:33 oh, the first time it showed here in Seattle, the whole theater was cheering every action scene and also bawling our eyes out. You could hear all the sniffs during the rock scene and the hug in the end
I've loved this movie since like last February. The Oscars got it almost perfect this year. I saw Angela in Wakanda, and she gave a really good speech about 10 minutes in, then died about 1/3 the way thru the movie. I would almost pick any of the other nominees over Angela, and I bet that is what happened. Hong Chau is also a really good actress.
Jamie’s Oscar was a consolation prize for all those years not being nominated. And also, your reactions are so pure and real, quickly becoming my favorite reactor bro! This shit had me a mess crying in the theater too.
Your face at the end, that is exactly how I and literally everyone I know who saw it felt. Just stunned with tears streaming down my face. I can see your point about Jamie Lee Curtis even though I thought she was great in this and I've loved her for so long I can't be anything but happy about her win. And the cool thing about her is that I think she'd have been just as happy if Stephanie Hsu had won. She was nominated but I can't imagine they'd have given it to her, being so new. What a brilliant, masterful movie this was. I'm just thrilled it won so many Oscars. Also, the guy getting spanked is one of the directors lol
This movie was the therapy we all needed. It breaks you and rebuilds you in the best way. Anemic budget, good script, good actors, smart DIY special effects, good music used effectively. That's all you need for a masterpiece.
I think I paused and laughed for at least 3-minutes straight after seeing your emotional reaction toward the end of this movie - I felt so vindicated! hahaha (I'm also low-kay a bit drunk) Amazing movie, right?! So glad you enjoyed it! I saw it while it was in theaters and before all the hype, so it was awesome to see someone get the same level of enjoyment out of it after it won all its won so many awards :)
This movie has me crying just thinking about it 😂 lmao I can't even explain the premise to someone without getting emotional. Had me crying over goddamn ROCKS. This is a master class of multiverse, it makes marvel movies look like baby multiverse lol But yeah this movie has quickly risen to one of my favorite movies of all damn time. Phenomenal and so damned human.
I've seen it a number of times now and I still cry
One of the best reactions I have seen! You really let your emotions show.
This movie provokes every emotion there is. It's one of the movies where you would cry while feeling gross about the hot dog fingers.. lol Excellent movie.
AAAHHH HE CRYIN!!!! Just kidding bro, this one makes me bawl like a baby every single time i watch it. Solid reaction bruv, keep it up.
Such a dope movie 👁️🏆🔥
This is not only the most visually stunning movie but its core is so beautiful. It's so completely absurd and yet so human, the ripple effect of her mother not taking responsibility for the way she made her daughter feel hit home for me, I'm currently dealing with the exact same issues (queer daughter of an immigrant mother). It was honestly a joy to watch you react to this, it's honestly the best film I've seen in a very long time - all of them did such a remarkable job.
Yeah bro, crying like a mahfk. My roommate and I watched this a while back and he's all emotionless as hell and I'm just bawling my eyes out. What a film.
honestly, i believed this movie would be good but i thought people were really overhyping this. then one day i saw a redbox by my corner store had it on display and i had a free rent thing to use. i was like, why not. then i watched it…man, i’ve never experienced so many emotions both beautiful and crazy. 9.5 out of 10.
Glad to see I wasn’t the only one crying like a baby thur the whole 3rd act. It just kept hitting me with emotions. I knew it was gonna have great action but I wasn’t expecting the emotional impact at all.
This movie really highlights how wasted Dr Strange was.
I didn’t want to watch the dr strange movie after this I wish I watched this in cinemas because it definitely was a fantastic movie one of those that stand out from so many movies in history, I think it ruined future dr strange movies 😂 it definitely raised the bar for multiverse movies
In case you missed it, Grandpa was played by James Hong, whom you probably remember as Lo Pan in "Big Trouble in Little China" (though he's been in a TON of film and tv)
Stephanie Hsu deserved that oscar!!
Unfortunately, they have the award to jamie lee curtis (she was good, but stephanie was amazing)
I love your reaction. That was me after watching this movie the 1st time. I couldn't control me crying.
Agreed, sir. People are out here arguing that Angela Bassett shoulda won the oscar, and I agree that she had a better performance than Jamie Lee Curtis. But to me Stephanie Hsu had the best performance by a supporting actress in arguably the last several years and hands down should’ve won.
god this reaction is top tier! it felt like i was watching the movie again, only this time from a birds eye view of my own reaction TT i cried so hard at the last third of the movie, especially w/ that gut wrenching cry by stephanie hsu bc that was so relatable. thanks for the awesome review!! it made me cry once again LOL
Who knew a damn rock would make me cry
"I didn't expect to cry this much" you and me both brother. I have ugly-cried every single time I have watched this. Stephanie Hsu DEFINITELY deserved the award, tho, I think we're all in agreement on that
I have not seen this movie myself, but I keep on watching youtube reactions to it, in the hopes of not having a complete meltdown when I finally see it.
But man....your reaction just destroyed that hope. You had me bawling at you AND the movie.
Awesome reaction, if you want more Michell yeoh please consider reacting to crouching tiger, hidden dragon, it’s a beautiful film with incredible fight scenes!
Bro, your reaction was my reaction when I first watched it. Got a recommendation from someone at my job, and I was curious about it before that, so I rented it as soon as it came out. Literally the very instant that the rental stopped playing, I went back and bought it. It's one of those you have to own because it only gets better on rewatch (like when I spotted the raccoon tail coming out of Chad's hat in the first hibachi scene). Soooo many details to notice for the first time.
