- Catching The Conrail Heritage Unit With Foreign Power - New Galilee, PA. Enjoy a unique railfan video where I caught a rare lashup just outside of Chippewa Township, PA in the little town of New Galilee. We're almost an hour from Pittsburgh. In this video, I finally caught the Norfolk Southern 8098 Conrail Heritage Unit. Along with it was a rare foreign power lashup. A Kansas City Southern unit and BNSF unit trailed. There was no regular Norfolk Southern unit on this train.
I met up with other railfans as we all tried to take our respective photos and videos. One I ran into was a great guy named Chad. He and a nice lady named Becky we're also catching the Conrail unit.
Chad has a RUclips channel called HistoricBF where he railfans primarily in the Beaver County area of Pennsylvania.

That Conrail unit rolled through my area back in December, but I was in the hospital. So bummed I missed it in person.

Glad you enjoyed! I have tried over and over to catch that train moving. Caught it a while back in the Conway Yard and had to do some hill climbing to get the best shot I could possibly get and it was not the greatest. So this definitely made up for it. The area of the bridge is really hilly so there are a few little bridges like this. There is also a deep trench they go through. There is a bridge that crosses the trench I plan to do future video from. The trains will pass below me nearly 60 feet down.
Conrail owned Pennsylvania and many parts of the NorthEast during its heyday. Norfolk Southern and CSX bought them out in the late 90s. It wasn't long after the locomotives we called "Big Blue" started disappearing as they got repainted to NS or CSX colors or were completely scrapped. So this heritage unit is a sight for sore eyes back in time.
I absolutely love your enthusiasm. I've learned a lot about trains just watching and listening to you. Always before I'd just enjoy watching them go by. Sometimes catching a name or looking at interesting graffiti on the sides. Can't wait for the next one.
@Jennifer Garrett thank you! I've always been a railfan. I would have time periods where I was serious about it and then times when it would just sit on the back burner. If I saw one go by, I'd sit and watch if I had the chance or time. Nowadays I'm back into it a lot and really enjoy it. I especially love doing the videos. Not everyone may watch them but I enjoy making them and railfanning in general. Makes me happy, relaxed, and peace. Plus I get to enjoy the outdoors waiting on each one to come by.
I live in Detroit, Michigan. I remember, when Conrail was in the Detroit, Michigan and Toledo, Ohio. Now, Norfolk-Southern took over the Conrail routes in and out of the Detroit, Michigan area.
I remember that too in Southwest Michigan

It, was a nice and sunny 🌞 ☀️ 😎 here in Detroit, Michigan. I to Royal Oak, and I did some Rail fanning today. I seen 2 trains this morning 🌄.
The 2 trains, that I seen this morning 🌄 were:
1. Amtrak Passenger Train, on the Pontiac/Detroit, Michigan to Chicago, Illinois Route.
2. While, the Amtrak Passenger Train was loading Passengers, a Freight Train, passed by Amtrak. The, Freight Train was heading North to Flint, Michigan. The Freight Train had 2 Illinois Central Engines, which were painted 🎨 Black, with Illinois Central in White. I remember Illinois Central from back in the day.

The, temperature 🌡 for Detroit and Southeastern got up to 64 degrees.
