- Abandoned Shoney's - Parkersburg, WV. This location had been closed for many many years and it shows. Multiple windows have been broken, the rear of the building is falling apart and mother nature is gradually reclaiming the land.

Here is Virginia all the Shoneys closed 2007. Their food was awful my sister and her ex-boyfriend ate at Shoney's before they were not happy with the food. My sisters and i were happy that they closed. The Shoney's on the corner of East Virginia Beach Boulevard and Newtown Road is now a 7-11
This was my favorite place as a child.
The food at Shoneys was forgettable. Haven't thought about it in years. It's cool to see nature try & reclaim the property !
I figured their food can't be the greatest since I've filmed so many abandoned locations over the years. Though there are times I see open locations with parking lots full of cars. Maybe not completely full but during the breakfast rush, I've seen lots filled with cars.
I'm from Parkersburg. This street used to be part of Route 50 and it serviced an exit to Interstate 77. However route 50 was rerouted so unless you want to get off and make an awkward turn around most people just drive by this part of town now. I forgot there was a Shoney's there I don't think I ever ate at that one. What I miss is just down the street there was a diner called Mountaineer Family Resturant. There was also a very nice Holiday Inn further up the hill that had a lovely pool area and convention rooms that overlooked the pool and countryside. It closed years ago again due to lack of traffic and is now a minimum security prison.

Wow that place is in bad shape! Great find! There’s an an open Shoney’s in Charleston, WV I’ve been to a few times and it’s pretty good.
There was a Shoney's open in Parkersburg around 2016, i remember eating there one night. It was definitely a different one. I remember it being really chill, not a lot of people, i enjoyed my food.
edit: the one i ate at is now a Mary B's home cooking at 1107 Garfield Ave.
It's good that it was turned into a different restaurant.
That’s where I live! Born and raised, awesome you stopped by and another great video!!!
My Home State of Wisconsin once had over 20 Shoney's Restaurants all have Closed most of them in the late 1990s.
Hi Wallie. I live in Morgantown and yes you are right. That Shoneys building was torn down and now there is an O'Rileys Auto parts store there in its place. Shoneys moved to Sabraton but unfortunately they have since went out of business and now there is a Mexican restaurant there. Its a vicious cycle now days. So sad. Great video!
Wow, that's a shame to hear Shoneys didn't make it in the Sabraton location. I drove past it to see how it looked the same day I did the video at the other one. Looked nice. At least something moved into it. Do you know if anything ever moved into the old Cici's location? I used to go there back in the day until they closed it.
@@WallieB26 I am pretty sure Bath & Body Works is there now. I can't keep track anymore. It is like musical chairs only with stores! LOL
Another great video. Thanks for sharing. Try to stay cool
Thank you! You too!
The vegitation has grown so much that you can barely see the front of the restaurant. Wow!!
An awesome video, Wallie! Back in the 1980s through the 1990s I used to eat at the Shoney's down in Charleston, WV. They had good food and the service was good as well.
As always great video 👍
Thank you!
I was born and raised in WV I can't recenize the place but it looks pretty good not in bad shape
I looked up this location on a website called Historic Aerials, it looks like it was open in 1996, and shows it being closed in 2003. This place is in great shape to be abandoned for 20 plus years
I stayed at that red roof one night for work back in 2017 and I remember that whole area being ROUGH!!!
It sure looked like it. Yikes.
It is drug addicts are bad around there
Great video wallie
Awesome 👌 video man
Thank you!
@@WallieB26 yes 👍
Good video, good food, I miss them .
I'm glad you mentioned the Shoneys you filmed in Morgantown.
My dad, my half sister Barbara and I ate at the one in Morgantown years ago.
My dad and I lived in a small town called Thornton West Virginia which was I think about an hour or half hour away from Morgantown.
Cool video
I eat there when i was a kid its sad to see it that away
I ate here a lot back in the 90’s. There was a lot of other business back then in this area. I believe there was a used car lot, Burger King, McDonalds, Bob Evens, 2-3 gas stations, a Holiday Inn, and a Long John Silver. Back then rt. 50 was a two lane road and when it was changed to a four lane road most of the businesses were closed and demoed to make room for the new road. The other businesses that survived the new road construction closed over time do people just driving straight through this part of Parkersburg.
Hey. 💯 That Shoney's WAS closed down due to the new road that was being built. It did well until that time, but was pretty much blocked off and ignored because of the new highway.
If you get the opportunity go to the Kmart on Southside Parkersburg, and right above there is an old Indian Statue at a old car lot....across the road from it .. Parkersburg is like most areas of WV. It needs a facelift..
I wondered why it was a bit difficult to get to. I filmed the Kmart!
@@WallieB26 💯. Yeah. Those buildings have set for a while. The problem with Parkersburg is that all these old buildings could be fixed up. I remember years ago they had a chance to put in a civic center and they rejected it because they assumed that everyone would just go to Charleston. (The Mineral Wells area, about 5-10 miles from outside of Parkers urg which you go thru on 77 heading towards Ripley/Charleston area) had an opportunity to have a Six Flags and they even had a few motels built to accommodate the influx of people that would come, but it fell thru. Also, there were for a huge Amazon facility in the area. But the same as the other 2, it did not pan out. BUT Parkers urg and the surrounding areas could benefit very well if they worked more on getting some kind of infrastructure going on. It is currently is just a fly by town in most respects.
What a find!!
wow i never thought i'd see something local to me, company i worked for would clean the shriners lodge behind this place now and again. lots of abandoned places on that stretch, this and the long john silvers down the road
@@swaglordmustafa yep. Even the mountaineer restaurant went out of business...all due to the new interstate that was built. I'm surprised Waffle House is still doing well.
Yep I live half mile from there
Another good video! This place is really hurting! Careful going in those weeds, there could be poison ivy near by!
I love your video 👍
Thank you!
@@WallieB26 your welcome can i do a edit of you and your my favorite RUclipsr
Kmart on southside parkersburg. Been closed for a while.
I filmed it! You'll see a video tomorrow!
@@WallieB26i cant wait!
@@WallieB26 when was you at the shoney in parkersburg wv?
Why so much hate on Shoney's? I ate there a few times back in the late 80's and early 90's and it was great. They use to be very comparable to Golden Corral back then.
Shoney's had the best breakfast buffet. You could literally pig out for $5 back in the '90s.
Shoneys are back once again for another Abandoned restaurant Video.
You should video the abandoned Shoneys that’s in Marietta, OH! It’s at the first exit when you enter Ohio from parkersburg
Cincinnati Ohio needs to build another mall because we don't have that many left!
You remind me of an Appalachian Steve Walls (Camping with Steve). Not sure if you camp but a collab would be wild. Good stuff here though!
I was born and raised in parkersburg wv i ate there in 2002
Only 25 miles from where I live lol!
THE MAIN ROUTE 50 WAS RELOCATED LEAVING THIS SHONEYS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO EASILY ACCESS ! THIS WAS NOT THE ONLY BUSINESS TO FAIL BECAUSE OF RT 50 RELOCATION ! ATE IN THIS RESAURANT MANY TIMES, MANY GOOD MEMORIES ! PROGRESS IS NOT ALWAYS GOOD FOR EVERYONE !
Big boy needs to get the grass mowed but he's broke
That was by far the best shoneys around. Id stop there on trips to ohio. When they changed the main road an put 50 in as a by pass. That took away business for them. Thus closed
2007 wow that's a long time ago
Yeah, that's as far back as I could see on Google street view. Couldn't find any information. May have been closed even longer.
@@WallieB26 shockingly I was expecting it to look alot worse
It's been brutal in southeast Pennsylvania highs in the 90s heat index between 100 to 110 degrees every time you go outside if you have asmah you feel it in your lungs
That building that isnt the hotel doesn't look good either ( by the blue pole ).
Look up the song (Nothing But) Flowers - Talking Heads
Did that type of restaurant have a all you can eat buffet?
Breakfast buffet
Yes, breakfast buffet!
Where in Parkersburg is it I’m always looking for places to go visit in Wv

You realize you're asking to get murdered by a drunk scientist and his grandson, right?
Great vid as usual!
Nah. It's Parkersburg. You gotta worry about a Meth addict killing. I used to work in Rehab and Sober Living in Pburg area. Hopefully this will change though. The whole town could much better if a lot of things were upgraded.
Thank you and I had no idea! Parkersburg appeared rough in a few areas but generally I felt safe and as if the town was okay! I'm clearly not from around there, out of the loop, and missing something. Haha
Jesus! I did think it was strange seeing signs on the pillars of the bridge by the hospital that said something along the lines of keep drugs down or something and don't hand out money to panhandlers. Never seen signs like that before though I already have always known better.
@@WallieB26 Yep. The panhandlers will stand right under those signs asking for money. It's crazy around there. Overall, area is safe, but it is extremely drug infested. Most people are respectful...BUT most issues or crime in the area revolves around addiction.
