Im a NASCAR fan that had no clue who SVG was until this weekend, and this was the coolest race ive ever watched. SVG winning will be talked about forever.
Watching this man qualifying was insane and I saw it coming. What I didn't see was him passing 17 cars. Wow I am a fan for life. I hope he learns ovals and wins every road course nascar has to offer. Step it up boys, new sheriff in town #SVG
That's a good point, you didn't see it if you only watched the TV broadcast. I had it on, and NBC streamed Shane's live in-car cam on RUclips. after the pit, he fell back to 18th because of the shuffle. He did pass them and it was kind of funny, they had the rear bumper cam on for most of the end of the race and you saw cars going backwards, smacking walls, hitting the runoff and tires - He let the front come to him in a lot of cases. But by this time, he got hit in the ass by LaJoi and that switched him to "ON" and he set sail. He'd had enough of getting bumped - no one ever got close to that other than Justin Haley when he did the crossover. In defense of our Cup drivers, they've never run a street course. They went to this track blind, and WET! Everything played to SVG's strengths ~ the "Perfect Storm" And it was absolute amazing to witness.
@@radamus210 yes this just it's not just about having talent , all the supercar drivers would be fast as it's what they do , all about practice and laps after laps
As a Texan I loved seeing SVB dominate Chicago. I never doubt a kiwi. Scott Dixon is a legend in Indycar and McLaughlin proved Supercar drivers have excellent skills and the competition is high level.
SVG has said he still loves the V8 Supercars but could be big offers made to him to change his mind he still has a year to go. Jamie such a smooth operator and great driver in his own Right won't stand in his way great guy.
I live in Ohio, USA. When nascar said they were going to Chicago for this race, i was disgruntled. I absolutely and theres more Americans that love the outcome. Super glad the foreigner handed the Americans their A$$. Well done Van G. He came to Chicago and dropped the 🎤 mic.
Thanks heaps Martin for doing these interviews mate as it's good to see the sport is strong here. Sadly I wish drag racing was just as big here in NZ, one way to get the kids of the street.
We yanks have known for a very long time the level of quality that comes from our cousins down south. Anyone who has paid attention remembers Sir Jack Brabham and Bruce Mclaren, their racing and dominance in their own cars, F1 and CanAm, many others also in the interim and currently. We have also been humbled in the "Americas" Cup, many times. V8 Supercars are only recently being televised so our exposure isn't very much but many of us at least know the Bathurst Panorama Hill race. Hairy-chested racing for sure. Seeing the Nascar entrant at Le Mans gives one hope of a global V8 Supercar / Nascar series, I think it would "take off".
Don't forget Alan Jones who won the 1980 F1 championship, 1st championship for the Williams team. He also had a distinguished career in various forms of motor racing.
Great win, 18th to 1st. But as SVG repeated (to his credit) its not the usual oval track. FYI credit to Giltrap (on his helmet), after yrs of famine they've given so many young Kiwi's a leg up.
Dale Earnhardt Snr becoming the first NASCAR driver ever to run an officially-timed lap in the rain. Occurred in practice for the 1995 Bud at the Glen at Watkins Glen International. A road race circuit. On slicks! LOL This 75-year-old Kiwi fan reckons "The Intimidator" would have given our man Shane a run for his money.
As an American, I think the V8SC guys have a level of race craft on road courses that's a couple of levels above NASCAR, and SVG most definitely has a feel on the brakes that NASCAR drivers don't really have the chance to develop. The frustrating part of NASCAR road racing is that the guys don't really have to develop high level race craft because they're allowed to use the bumper to move people out of the way.
So true man, the Aus/NZ men & women are some of the best in the world in their many sporting fields yet it's sad when the so-called fans show no appreciation and can be horribly critical of these men and women who work so hard at their craft and are great at what they do... 🤔🤔🤔

Calling the rest of the NASCAR field ‘the best drivers in the Country’ I believe is well intentioned, but inaccurate. NASCAR drivers IMHO are the best Oval Drivers in the WORLD! (And Oval Racing is a whole ‘nuther World) The Chicago race was a matter of putting the Best Oval Drivers on a wet street circuit (not an uncommon SUPERCARS venue) and then being surprised when Shane excelled. And no, I wasn’t expecting him to win. Neither was I shocked when he qualified 3rd. Many of the highlight clips online from Chicago could have been from Newcastle! 😊 Or am I the only one that thought he was watching a Supercars race?? FWIW, I live in “the Colonies” (North Carolina, to be specific), and I grew up watching King Richard (Petty) and many others since then. About five years ago I found that I could stream SUPERCARS and have become as big a fan as I am of NASCAR. @@mgers75as an American I can tell you Ambrose never had the car needed to win a lot of the time… the cars in NASCAR today are nearly the same across the field with the same chassis… only difference is the brand of motors.
