The past didn't really have better music. The thing is when you think back to the past and remember music you only remember the memorable music that left an impact on you.
You don't remember the shitty music of the past because it sucked.
So you are taking this carefully curated list of the very best songs of the past and comparing that to just any old song that happens to come by today.
Some of the music of today will also be fantastic and that music will be remembered. But those songs haven't had time to stand the test of time yet.
Also when you think back to the best times of your life the music that is playing in those times are by definition going to be the music of the past.
The music that is released today cannot be a part of you favorite memories so you romanticize the music of the past and you just the music of the present more harshly.
If you were as forgiving with modern music it would be better in your mind.
There is great music all around you but because it hasn't been through the same filter that the music of the past has been it is harder to find. All the music of the present you would love is still in the same pile with all the songs you don't like.

When I think of the 90's this is the first song that comes to my mind. It takes me back to a better time of my life. I can vision myself driving in my GEO Tracker listening to this on my way to school. I can feel the heat from the sun touch my face, the enjoyment I had while driving to my friend's house, and the sky seemed so much clearer back then. It was a simpler time back then, you didn't necessarily need the newest car, or designer clothes, students got together at sporting events and the parties on the weekend. I'd give anything to go back, at least for a weekend, and if I would've known then how precious being young meant, I would of cherished more. 💙🤘

    Looking around the house
Hidden behind the window and the door
    Searching for signs of life
    But there's nobody home
Well, maybe I'm just too sure
Or maybe I'm just too frightened by the sound of it
Pieces of note fall down, but the letter said
    Aha, it was good
Living with you, aha, it was good
    Ah-ah-ah-ah-aha it was good
Living with you, aha, it was good
Ah-ah-ah, good good good good good
    Sitting around the house
Watching the sun trac shadows on the floor
    Searching for signs of life
    But there's nobody home
Well, maybe I'll call or I'll write you a letter
Now maybe we'll see on the fourth of July
But I'm not too sure, and I'm not too proud
Well I'm not sure, and I'm not too proud to say
    Aha, it was good
    Living…

This song’s chorus has been stuck in my head on and off for the last few weeks and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what the song was! A chance googling of the lyrics finally got me the answer. I was a little too young to appreciate it back in the day (I think I was only 6 or 7 when this song was released...my age was definitely in the single digits back then), but hey...good ‘90s music just has a great nostalgic feeling to it, right?

I kept singing those same 2 lines to my bf who was starting to think I lost it. The beat/rhythm were in my mind so clear though! So glad I finally found it and cleared up that I was way off on the lyrics. Funny how once it started playing I knew ALL the words (besides mishearing a few😄)...well that would have been helpful 🤣
