The Sony FX3 just became a brand new camera again, and one much more deserving of Son'y "Cine" branding. New menus, timecode, Cine EI workflow... there's loads to talk about & get used to. In this video I show how to install your own custom LUTs onto the Sony FX3, which you can display over your S-Log3 while shooting to help with exposure.

Thank you so much for your fabulous solution to the inclusion of the false color LUT for the Sony FX3. Works like a charm. It’s a thrill to be able to enable false color when you don’t have an external monitor attached.

EMBED LUT does not Burn the LUT into the footage. It's still sLog - just the LUT used is EMBEDDED in the METADATA so you know which LUT was used when shooting.
You still need to add the LUT in post if you want to apply it.
Does that mean you also can’t use the custom luts for baking in the look when shooting jps? Best
i have just tried to figure out how he did and I came to the same conclusion, that the lut can not be burned in in camera.
But I think i have heard one guy once that he was using the fx6 or fx9 because he needed burned in luts.

@@CinematographyLischkaChannel2 robert machado does good youtube videos and always bakes the lut with his fx9 i believe. I was hoping to do the same with my fx30 but i dont think you can.
Thank you for the direct answer. Most people confuse and cant say direct replies. It saved my time. After importing my footages, all of them looked flat. None has LUT applied.

Has Sony done LUT support firmware upgrades for any older cameras as well? Sony a7’s etc?
So if you select embed LUT file it actually comes out as recorded in LOG or just as a standard profile with a LUT type filter applied? A lot of people have said it's just a standard movie profile with the LUT effect applied (so you don't really keep the additional dynamic range benefits of shooting in LOG). Thanks.

Hi I have just filmed in S-log 3 using my FX3 and i am dropping various LUTS onto the footage but not getting the look I was hoping for .I wanted my footage to pop. Do you have any how to films on using LUTS in post? ps I loved this video, it was really helpful!

Is it possible to change from one lut to another with your footage as long as the lut isn't embedded?
Yes, as long as the LUT isn't baked in, you can use any LUT during your editing
Setting that setting in the LuT page only embeds the Lut metadata in my case. Not the lut
Correct - the Lut isn't applied to the footage. The Lut-file is just attached so the editor you handover the image has the right lut to work with..
5:26 , having the embed lut file on, or off, shows the exact same thing on my computer. which is flat log video. i have correctly lut on, and selected the phantom lut neutral. is it maybe the embeded LUT file ONLY for metadata in sony catalyst program?
it seems like u meant its baked and saves us time in colour correction. but it is still flat on or off.
Hi there! How good is the internal mic of the Fx 3 compared with a7 iii? Can you shoot a wedding with the internal mic? The audio of a7iii is really bad... i have this camera and I also used gh5, which had the best internal mic. I had no worries while filming a wedding.

great video. very helpful. however embedding the lut does not apply the lut on your footage. It stays as slog3 when you put it on the computer. anyone know how to bake the footage in?

Getting and error message indicating the lut could not be loaded. The camera recognizes it, it but won't load. I am using .cube files. Is there a size limination?
No idea - may be worth downloading some from Sony’s website to test those out
Same. Someone mentioned the "resolution" might be the issue, but I don't know enough about 33 vs 65 (type?) luts
Some of my luts are loading others are not. It seems to depend on the lut.
I found this with 65 point luts, it seems to want 33 point instead. Use Davinci to export the lut at 33 and you'll be good.

Hi! Thanks for making this video! I have a question, when you install a lut on the camera, and you're recording a video, do you still overexpose by + 1.7 to 2 like you normally do with s-log 3?
If you're not baking the lut into the footage, then you're just exposing for S-Log3 anyways. You just have a preview of it.
I'm almost always shooting using either a 5" Shinobi or Ninja V. With my LUTs on there, I'm pretty much exposing by eye depending on how I want it to look. "Correct" exposure isn't correct for everyone or every scene 💁♂️

when I add my luts its still washout out like its filming in slog any ideas?
I get an error message saying "The file cannot be loaded". smh I don't know if its bug or I'm doing something wrong. I can see my Luts but when I select to import that message just shows up, I tried different outs still the same message.
I found 65 point cube files are giving me this error. If I export at 33 point out of Davinci it works.

so I followed this and I had about ten Luts I imported, but a few of them although the same.cube file said can't be imported, and they were ones I've exported in premiere am I missing something
Hey! Had the same problem, especially frustrating as I only use Premiere exported LUTs. There's a workaround! Albeit unorthodox...
I had to download a LUT converter, tried to look for an online one but to no avail. The best free one I could find was 'Briz LUT Converter' and get it on a trial. No idea how long the trial lasts but fortunately you can convert for free upon download.
1) Create LUT on Premiere
2) Export as .look file*
3) Import into Briz (or any converter)
4) Convert LUT, I set my settings to 'Cube 3D Davinci' and dimension size as default.
5) Import into camera as per usual.
*Funnily enough I tried exporting from Premiere as a .cube and then converting it, although the process went through as it should it still didn't work when loading it to the FX3. Hopefully we'll get a workaround soon but this will have to do for now.

UNABLE TO GET RID OF FLICKERING AT TIMES, ON THE OTHER HAND THE FX30 HAS THIS FEATURE & WORKS LIKE A CHARM
First off, you have a misunderstanding of what "Embed LUT file" Means, When your turn on Embed Lut File, that DOES NOT apply the Lut To your footage what so ever, your still going to see the SLOG3 in post, Embed LUT file is to embed the META DATA of that video so when you import your video to a sony Editor such as Catalyst Browse, it will show all the camera settings and such that you had set in the camera, if your importing to Catalyst Browse, then Catalyst Browse, will use the Lut that you had Embeded yes, but ONLY when your Importing to Sony Catalyst Browse,, Not Premier Pro OR Davinci Resolve...
Now i shoot externally using the Atamos NINJA V+ and when you turn preview LUT ON, the Ninja Will see the video with the LUT applied, and that will make your video with the LUT baked in, Embed LUT FILE in the camera settings does not Bake the LUT into the Video that is used for the META DATA info only..

I did everything correct, but when I go to import the lut it says "file can't be loaded". I reformatted the memory card. Not sure why it will not load. Any thoughts? I also don't have a selection in my menu for turning the LUT on/off. Is there something else that must be done to get that to show up?
Your lut may be a 65 point LUT, these aren't supported. Try a 33 or 17 point LUT instead. If that is the issue, you can also use Davinci Resolve to adapt your specific LUT to 33 point and it should work!
@@eddievalera3959 I'm sure there's a few, but I would use davinci resolve.
Add your LUT to any clip in the color page. Right click on the clip > Generate 3D LUT, choose 33 point.

Will the LUTS be baked in if I'm using the HDMI out?
The LUT does carry over through HDMI, so no need to load any on your monitor. Not tested with external recording though

Yep, so no need for LUTs on a monitor anymore either. I tested on both the Ninja V & Portkeys PT5ii
@@FamauMedia Is there a way to set it so the Lut from the fx3 isn't outputting into hdmi? It seems like it recrods the LUT baked in when you're recording externally to the Ninja V. Be nice have the lut on the camera on, without it being baked into the external recording.
Man you already have the folder lut in sony folder so you don’t have to create it but just drop the luts files into it ! That it !
If you’ve formatted them in the camera, yes. I hadn’t since updating, so they weren’t there 💁♂️
