    Never thought I'd see a PWM compressor again! I'm blown away by how transparent and clean it sounds, considering it's analog. Hats off to Pom for making it work!

      It does have a sonic vibe to it with the 6 big transformers inside, but the compression is really smooth and natural!

    Man i like what it does to the sound of the rooms. It does not seam over cooked when your hitting it. I love what it does to the trans. I could go on all day. Something about this comp that I connect with. It does what i hear in my head. Again i love the simple style videos. It works!!! And it helps you know your shit right.... lol

      It can really smash things without sounding like it's working too hard or coming apart. The fastest attack is actually how the originals were set. I should have spent more time on that setting. Thanks for chiming in!

    sounds incredibly good. reminds me of my vintage adr compex. despite the fact it should be closer to the emt156, great river pwm501 or crane song stc8, being a pwm type compressor, too. would be interesting to compare against waves kramer pie.

      I used to own a Compex and loved that as well. I like the idea of comparing it to the pluging. I used to own the Kramer, but I don't think I have WAVES installed on my system anymore.

    • @davidpetersmusic
      @davidpetersmusic  20 дней назад

      I think Avedis is also working on one. Apparently it's a tough circuit to get right.

  • @DistrictSoundLab
    @DistrictSoundLab Месяц назад +2

    Curious how the new Avedis PYE will compare. This one sounds pretty great. Although I can’t imagine making a hardware compressor nowadays and not adding a wet/dry control. Maybe they just want to be true to the original, but imagine what you could do with a blend control. It would make it 10x as useful IMO.

    • @davidpetersmusic
      @davidpetersmusic  Месяц назад +1

      Yes, I'm curious how it compares as well. I do appreciate blend controls, but the lack of a wet/dry hasn't been an issue. I use Logic, which has a wet/dry control included in its hardware I/O plugin, so I just use that, or bring it up on a separate fader. Both of those options are saved and automated within the session, where a blend control on the box would not be.

    Loving these videos - thanks so much. It almost sounds like a mix between a diode bridge - with a slower release than the neves - and a VCA. on AGTRs seems like it can control very nicely. I do feel like this could do a great job on a fingerstyle bass - especially with that low mid push and the musical punch, without the overly transformer colored sound which can sometimes smear bass sounds in my opinion

    • @davidpetersmusic
      @davidpetersmusic  Месяц назад

      Thanks! It does remind me of diode bridge compressors - more toward the TG1 side of things. Believe it or not, there are SIX big Carnhill transformers in there! I did try it on an electric bass and it wasn't as complimentary as I expected it to be. I have not yet tried it on upright.

    • @Rhuggins
      @Rhuggins Месяц назад

      @@davidpetersmusic sorry i meant slower *attack times. The neves have ridiculously slow release times for modern music (and these to be fair look like they can be set that way as well). Funny about the transformers! Maybe thats why its not as “punchy” as one may expect, PWM can theoretically be very very fast, I didnt realize that about the unit. Sad to hear that about the bass. Are you thinking of keeping it? Seems like a rather expensive drum buss compressor- though it does sound really nice in that capactity

    • @davidpetersmusic
      @davidpetersmusic  Месяц назад

      I think they're pretty average price-wise - cheaper than an API 2500, TG-1, some SSLs, etc. It's a nice balance/alternative to the Overstayer SFE, which is the other piece that often gets used on drums lately. No plans to move on from it at the moment, but who knows! And my bass attempts were brief, it might be great there given a little more time.

    Really cool.. Thanks for sharing :) Can i ask is the ambience on the drums real or a plugin/reverb.. it sounds really good.. love how it breaths when its compressed. Thanks again for making these videos..

    • @davidpetersmusic
      @davidpetersmusic  Месяц назад +1

      The drum ambience is all room mics, no reverbs! I do occasionally put a Bricasti across the whole drum mix on a room setting. The guitars on the Under the Rug song do have ambience on them from an old RMX16. I hope that helps!

    • @davidpetersmusic
      @davidpetersmusic  29 дней назад +1

      @@tihinter These drums are from a session a few years ago. The drums were recorded in a good-sized living room with probably up to 12 or so mics on the drums, including room mics. A lot of the room sound comes from mics around the corner in the kitchen.
