I love the fact that you not only show the patches but you also make incredible music with it. It gives such a different perspective on the whole plugin. Thank you!!
Thank you for the comprehensive video. This, as of today, is the only video I've seen from you and I like your approach to showing off new plugins. I'll definitely be following your channel more.
Jeff thx for your videos, so much inspired to me....can you tell us, how is your midi setup in maschine? if i play on kontrol s49 keyboard... first i hear nothing, then sound - input - midi - all... but then i hear sounds from the other groups too... your videos not... thx for your work.
I get the email from Native Instruments and think to myself, "Neat, but I'll wait and see what Jeff says about it in a few days" ... ten minutes later I get the notification for this video xD - You're fast as lightning Jeff! QUICK Question: Can I use my own samples within Pharlight?
Thanks Sean! I didn't have the manual when I made this video, and I just checked... on page 6... you can import your own samples! This is huge for sure. I'll have to make that the feature of my next video on this for sure!
Wow, some great beats. I am thinking about getting Native Instruments Ultimate Collectors edition at some point in my life, once I get better at music production.
I'm impressed that you are able to use the Maschine software to create demo tracks. I have an older Maschine mkII controller and the 2.x software. I thought Maschine was going to allow me to create amazing beats. But unfortunately, I passionately hate the Maschine software. It's so limited compared to even the Key Editor in Cubase. And the expansion packs are mostly crap. So now I have an expensive drum pad controller that also includes assignable buttons that I use to key switch to different articulations in my detailed orchestral instruments. Oh well, at least the Maschine pads feel really good.
Jef, in most of your new videos, you have the Maschine Jam on your desk but you don't use it... I'm hoping you do a video on your workflow with it if you have one that is, lol...
Was just about to ask the same question. Have ordered my own Jam. Waiting and eager to explore it when it arrives. Jef, we are waiting for your Jam insights😃
Jef wonderful videos...!!! I would like your opinion. I'm looking to create some ambient and soundscape music and would like to know what would you recommend. My criteria are the following: great stock presets, growth and flexibility of the instrument, and learning curve. Here are some of the choices I'm looking to invest in. NI Light Trilogy, NI Absynth 5 & Steinberg Padshop. I'm also looking into switching over from Cubase to Studio One to take advantage of the plethora of instruments, loops and Deep Flight One that Sphere offers.
Is it worth the purchase if I have Straylight? The engine looks the same, it seems like it only has different factory samples and I could get pretty much the same result with loading some vocal samples into Straylight.
Thank you for the informative video .I have been exploring the presets of Pharlight .It can be very CPU intensive .My PC is seven years old though .Would you recommend a PC spec ? Does the Machine aid with the processing power ? Very nice sounds and textures .
The most important thing is that you increase your latency to 256 sample. 512 would be even better. Also, make sure that you use the latest Kontakt version 6.3 which greatly improves the UI drawing performance of Pharlight.
Jef Gibbons sweet! Do you have any videos on mixing in maschine? Your videos are always good and easy to understand but I haven’t seen any mixing tutorials yet
Frank Elting No, in Straylight, I can’t put the sample in loop (back or forwards). It only plays once and the stops. Granular = ok. The developer wrote I have to have the full Kontakt 6 version for that.
@@Sopranos1342 I can weigh in a bit, as I've been finding and using vocal stuff all year, for ambient/cinematic and electronic style music, I have Vocalise 2 - Female only, some pads and lead type sounds, not granular but reverb and twisted with gravity controls, some phrases that are nice, check out the film Arival it's used in the early parts of the film. it's great but fairly limited. I've already used quite a bit of what I want from it, but no doubt it may come around again. This seems more spread out, with most basses covered, male and female with some good granular stuff, Outputs Exhale, looks very good, with a lean towards the rhythmical and dance orientated music. Depends where you sit on the money and weather or not just granulating stuff in Reaktor or Max is enough, Vocals are tricky some of it boils down to time saving and inspiration. not individuality and specific design. On a budget, which we all are from time to time, try crate digging samples. :)
@@Proxima04 Thanks Gridnode! I haven't spent enough time with Exhale to compare, but I would download the demo of this one and see how it works for you!
how in the world did your computer not crash lmao..i have some highend stuff and this thing is a monster on my cpu usage ): i have to open up a new blank template just to work on a patch
That was a really good review, thank you Jef. And I love the sounds that Pharlight can create, very tempted having heard it here and installed it on my own PC. But....is it just me, or is the whole installation, and more particularly, the UX of Kontakt something that's got much more to be desired? Clunkiest UI I've encountered in ages, to the point where I'm still up in the air about buying it, even at a reduced intro' price.
Please give the Pharlight a try in the newly released Kontakt 6.3, which greatly reduced the CPU required for drawing the Pharlight UI. The interface feels perfectly responsive since the Kontakt 6.3 update.
If you run at latencies of 256 samples or higher it is totally sufficient. Also, make sure to use the latest Kontakt version 6.3 which greatly improves the UI drawing performance for Straylight and Pharlight.
I’m probably done buying Native Instruments plugins simply because they don’t run standalone. Feels chained to Kontakt. They should release everything like they did with the original Massive and latest Massive X.
I am a new Cubase user. I started a project with a 8 bar loop. While working on this project I might have accidently pressed something, whcih resulted in the timeline showing the 8 bar loop as 25 bars. I don't know what caused this. Can someone please help me reverse this. Find the images - drive.google.com/open?id=1gn_cVI3kEy1rqNF81-WiAZr-R61a7KjF drive.google.com/open?id=1H2uZ6-48ngJZMce91KOkJhgqX4DWgokc
You’ve just switched the project from 4/4 to 1/4. Double click on the time signature box on the bottom row which reads 1/4 and enter 4/4 to make it go back to 8 bars. You had 8 bars of 4/4 which turns into 32 bars when you choose 1/4. This often happens if you try to open the tempo track - so that might be what you did.
Nah. Why the guys with the beautiful gear make the most boring and lifeless kind of music? It's like you don't really listen to passionate music anymore that got you there in the first place and instead focus on your cold work. Explaining is a good thing, but otherwise, the video seems bloated and looks like an uninspired commercial.
The product itself, outside of using it as a bank, is pretty bland too. Look at Quanta that offers fantastic functionality, doesn't require you to sit it into Kontakt, costs 30% less and has a demo.
I love the fact that you not only show the patches but you also make incredible music with it.
It gives such a different perspective on the whole plugin.
Thank you!!

Learning so much from your videos, not only about different instruments, but synthesis in general. You are a legend Jef!

What kind off computer monitor is used in this video
It's a Samsung 7100 TV, costco special! (65")
@@jefgibbons doesn't your eye hurt if you use TV vs Computer Monitor? Just curious.
Does it only works full in the full Kontakt 6? Just like Straylight; so, only partly in the Kontakt player :(
Straylight and Pharlight do not require a full Kontakt 6 licence. Both run without restrictions in the free Kontakt 6 Player.
Frank Elting No, in Straylight, I can’t put the sample in loop (back or forwards). It only plays once and the stops. Granular = ok.

They're Yorkvilles, budget Canadian monitors... but I have a video coming on a Monitor upgrade happening next week!
Great showcase!
Do you have Heavyocity Vocalise (1 or 2)? If so, any thoughts how this compares?
Cheers!
I have a bunch of Heavyocity, but not that one. Thanks for the comments!
How about Output Exhale? Thoughts between the two?
Cheers!

That stinks! Yeah, my Mac is quite old, but it has lots of RAM, that might be the problem?
You need to set a higher latency as Kontakt can make better use of all your CPU cores at latency settings of 256 or 512 samples.
That was a really good review, thank you Jef. And I love the sounds that Pharlight can create, very tempted having heard it here and installed it on my own PC.
