How to work with different types of hardware synths in Maschine. I use the Juno 6 (no MIDI), the Yamaha DX7 (with MIDI), the Korg Minilogue (with the Maschine template), and the Korg Microkorg (made a template).
Dust off your hardware synths and give it a go!

Thank you once again, Jef. I keep coming back to your tutorials when I get stuck. I certainly agree that getting out into the hardware adds a different dynamic and it's helped me greatly.
this is brilliant thanks.... ive been debating for ages what i should buy to compliment my king korg and monologue and this is spot on. thank you.
This is the guy you want to have in your band. These vids are great Jef! THANK YOU!
I just discovered your tutorials and subscribed recently. I wish I found you earlier. Great stuff and VERY well explained. Thanks and please don't stop posting new stuff!!
Thanks, I won’t!!
Excellent demo video, thank you! Also - that track sounds really cool! 😮
you have absolutely nailed the lighting in your studio but i'm sure you already know that
thanks for another amazing video Jeff! Once I am comforatable navigating and using my Maschine I will definitly go to buy some cool things from Native Instruments. Can't wait to grow my skills. thanks again for your help.
You do a fabulous job here Jef. Thanks. Nice to hear your music talent as well.
Thanks Stephanie... always working on it!
Very helpful video Jeff!
Great content and presentation! I'm surprised as to why you don't have a lot more subscribers. Keep up the great work my friend!
Thanks so much! Things are growing fast... I'll get there!
Hi Jef, brilliant finally I can use my Kurzweil k2500. Thank you for your concise jargon free instructions. Bless you!
Awesome video, well explained and demo’ed real-time..⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Just the push I needed to get my old DX-11 and DR-550 out and set up. Great Vids, Thanks Jef!!!
+Blindeddie that’s great! I love getting the hardware going... it’s worth the hassle!
Thi# was awesome mate! Will need to try it out. Thank you
Thank you. These videos are great.
Thank you very much for this video! I have learnt a lot here.
Subscribed!
Glad to hear it, thanks Miklos!
Man...Jef this was so helpful my man! I could not find any info on this. You nailed it. Now my Roldan Boutique synths work perfect with my MK3....Purple Limited I might add.
Ooh, the purple one!! So nice
Damn Jef, wish I'd found your channel earlier - you saved me hours of headache. Thank you! Also: You rock, such a great explanation, nice visuals and you seem like such a chill dude - thanks and warm regards from Germany! :)
hey bro this about the coolest video i’ve seen. i want that korg
Another really helpful tutorial, thanks Jef
You’re welcome Chris!
I do not have any external synths, but still a very interesting learning moment. Shows how versatile Maschine is, if one takes the time to dig a bit deeper. Thanks Jef!
Native Instruments should start sponsoring you big time(if they don't already)!
So true Ed! I'm more and more interested in hardware after growing up on virtual instruments in the studio!
Thanks. Very helpful video!
Hi Jef, thanks for the great videos loving your channel. Very easy to understand. Can you do a video on controling the Roland tr09 with Maschine using the step sequencer or pads to audition the different drum sounds if it's possible to do this?
Thanks for these informations, very helpfull for me.
Very nice melody
Fantastic video! I have to clean up my studio this weekend! Your clean setup convicted me. LOL!
Yeah man, I've kept it clean since starting these youtube vids! Helps keep my brain uncluttered when I'm creating too...
Jef Gibbons awesome!
@@jefgibbons thats so true, i cant stand knowing its a mess around me whilst trying to be creative^^ Great videos btw! i got the microkorg aswell, gonna try mess around with the CC´s :) Thanks!
Great video, thanks!!
great video. very useful even for Maschine Mirko MK3 users.
Fantastic! I have 2 Microkorgs (original and xl) Mk3, Model D, and Arturia Keystep, and Akai EIE interface and someday... a 88 key SV-2 ... . Having essentially 2 midi contollers is a bit confusing, but this video goes along way to getting things talking. Thanks again.👍
ThankYou so much for this great information 🤗🤗🤗❤️✌🏾✊🏽👉🏽🏆👈🏽
I really like controlling external gear from Maschine, lots of fun to be had! Great tutorial man!
Thanks!!
Hello @dexterousManipulator, can you trigger Chords from mashine on an analog synth please ? :)
@@sound4label yes, sure you can. You can both trigger sounds on an analog synth from Maschine or trigger Maschine’s sounds from an analog synth.
@@dxtrs_mnpltr Awesome ! Many thanks my friend ! :)
so cool
You are a life saver thank you!
Great video! I've been using Maschine for a while. Now I've got a Roland Gaia SH-01 and I'd love to use it with Maschine like you're using your synths here. I get a bit stuck with the set-up, which devices (such as mixer) and cables etc. are needed and how it all needs to be set-up to work. Need help with that
Great vid Jeff, could you give me some tips on creating a set up which uses my Maschine Studio as the DAW but also has external hardware synths such as the Korg Volca Bass or Behringer TD3. Can I run these straight into the midi inputs on my Maschine or will I have to get a midi audio interface?
Your really the man!
Hi Jeff , thx for your video.
Could you tell me how to record Automatisation but only during a specific scene ? Do I have to create a specific patern and record the automation for the dedicated moment ? (if so, I can't for example record automation on the master like begining my song with 100% reverb and get it lower and lower as an introduction...)
Thanks in advance ; )
Hey Jef, awesome vid thanks! Been baffled by setting up my maschine line-in for multiple synths, for example how did you set up the L4 for Juno? As there are only two physical line ins on mk3. Thanks a million!
That's a very nice live wood table.
OMG it's still alive???
Can you record tempo synced when using hardware synths like a Korg Minilogue in my case? The only way I can figure out to record is by sampling my Minilogue and then assigning that to a pattern. Much different than when I use the included Maschine sounds that sync automatically and allow me to record in real time
Best vids man!🤤
+Anthony Brown thanks Anthony!
Thanks for the great video. Do you find yourself starting projects in Maschine and then moving into Cubase at later point? Would your workflow just be to print all of the audio and then open cubase as if it were a soft synth project or do you approach it differently?
hi do you have a video on software synths for Maschine? keep up the great work!
Hi Jef - Good stuff. Excellent TOI (Transfer of Information) So you have a clip on the Hardware Synths with Komplete Kontrol MK II
hey jeff! great video as useual man..if i may ask a question.. how do i get my drums spread across my midi controller? cannot figure this out at all im just geting one pad at a time. Thank you in advance.
Dear all, Have an issue - when rotating the "Filter Cut Off" encoder on my Synthesizer, the MK3/Maschine Software is not recording the incoming CC message changing the macro encoder value. What is up with this? to ensure my synthesizer is transmitting messages I am Running the "Midi Monitor App" to monitor the incoming traffic - this demonstrates traffic is incoming. Any explanation on the Maschine Kontroller/Software?
Hey Jef, any way I may get your insight/advice for my Maschine MK3 and issues I’m running into with studio one for windows? Thanks!
Wish I could copy/past your setup ! Nice video, thanks!
Thank you
Question?? What do you think of the KC Mk2 keyboard ?? I'm looking into getting it and seen you have 1. Thx
Super helpful video, Jeff! Thanks!
+Phillip Smith thanks so much! It took me a while to get things all working on my end, so hopefully it helps others out as well.
+Phillip Smith glad to hear it! Thanks for posting Phillip!
This was very helpfull! Thank you Jef!
+Farning you’re most welcome!
@@jefgibbons Also i found out that there are MIDI Presets avaible as a download on the official NI page support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001075809-Setting-Up-MASCHINE-s-MIDI-Presets-to-Control-External-Hardware-Instruments
What interface are you using sir? When connecting the minilouge to the interface by midi do you input the cord by the midi IN or OUT port?
@Jef Gibbons, is there a way to send midi using the Maschine 2 VST in Ableton to an external instrument? I really like using the vst in Ableton but the midi routing works differently there.
Hey I am trying to feed in my TD3 - SR with Maschine 2.00. I have been tinkering for hours and I cannot seem to get any noise from the TD3 to play through Machine. PLEASE HELP!
Hey Jeff first off I am new to producing so the Maschine MK3 is my fist piece of equipment I brought specifically for getting my ideas out of my head and making my songs come to life. Anyways I only have one synth (Yamaha MM8) and I don't have an interface at the moment. However it appears that I can run the synth midi to the MK3. Heres my problem tho! My synth is playing the sounds coming from Maschine but i can't hear my synth sounds when I play it. Can you please tell me where I am going wrong? Thanks and enjoy your holiday weekend!
Hey Jef,
Would this also work with using an external sampler like an akai s950? (3:20 in the video) would I be able to trigger the sample on the akai & resample it into the maschine? Thanks for your videos!
Is it possible to multi track record audio of several hardware synths? Maschine is so great for doing live synth jams but I need to multi track it (even if into a DAW). Any advice appreciated!
Hello
First of all, thanks for your video
I can do everything you do between maschine and minilogue xd but when i try to export the project the sound from minilogue is not exported.
I'll appreciate a lot if you could help me.
Thanks
Are you still able to adjust parameters on the microkorg itself and perhaps create new patches as if it were standalone, and record them into maschine? Thanks.
And will Midi in/out on the hardware units work okay. I'm using maschine Mk2 and microkorg. Or do I still need an interface?
Great one Jef :)
Is Maschine Software supposed to record one instrument (E-Guitar) on each different sound in the same group? I set up two different Effect-Chains, Sound 1 and Sound 2. When playing on Sound 1 also Sound 2 is audible and viceversa. But I want to use the Sound-Slot like a Track in Cubase for example...
One group one instrument or one sound one Instrument? Thanks ;)
How do you handle the Latenz of recording?
Can you send and receive midi data from all keyboards at once? For instance, you want to tweak parameters directly on keyboards and change filter sweeps and record that midi data from the keyboard knows and faders.
Hey Jeff, a little off topic but I was wondering if there was a way to sync two PC's with maschine and two mk3s running. Me and a buddy want to do a live set on our own gear, but we want to have both maschines synced. Is this possible?
How are your midi cables connected while using the dr7?
Im having problems with my mx88 and Steinbergs ur44 audio/midi interface.
The midi goes OUT from the mx88 to IN on my interface.
Cool 😎🎶
Jeff. I’ve a question: in midi mode recording, you use dx7 Keyboard for insert note event in Maschine Plus. It’s ok. But, in My studio, this not function. I must use Maschine’s pad for insert midi note/event. If i use The Keyboard (Polybrute) it’s don’t send nothing Message in event tab of Maschine. How I can resolve this? Midi In and Midi Out tab are ok, identica at Your video (this video). Thanks a lot for help!
I was wondering if we need more cubase tutorials, and came over your tutorials, and started watching, excellent content. you prove the fact that we need better content tutorials for different things which you have knowledge in - the professional way.
Thanks for the video! It helped this beginner a lot. Do you have any suggestions to reduce latency? Right not I have a analogue synth connected to the mk3 by midi and there is a delay that I'm not sure how to reduce. Any suggestions?
That's weird, did you adjust the buffer settings in Maschine Preferences? It should be unnoticeable...
@@jefgibbons I've been trying a few things. Really just testing to find out where the problem is starting from. I'll give that a try. Thanks for the suggestion I appreciate it!
Can you do a video on editing vocals?
Perfect
Thanks Scoops!
I know you’re struggle Trying to connect all my gear like virus ti and polar, mainly my virus ti cause it comes with a custom pci card. even some of the Roland analog series. Couldn’t get them all to sync and connect right without lag and crashes so I just bit the bullet and just got a Universal Audio Apollo 8 Duo thunder. Now no more lag and routing issues with mashine 2, mashine mk3 and even push 2 is working better with ableton with the new routing only if native Instruments could get their vst running on ableton smoothly I guess cubase will have to do for the mk3 ahh 1st world problems . As always thx for the tutorial:) oh btw wanna sell me you’re Juno been looking for a mint one 😀
Sorry... the Juno isn't for sale! ;)
Jef Gibbons ahh damn far enough if it was me I wouldn’t sell it either can’t. Have been looking all over Australia for a decent ones might try my luck on the internet:)
Awesome Video Senor Gibbons. I don’t want that desk I need that desk!
What if I want to use Maschine as a step sequencer sending out (sidechain ) into hardware synth ?
Hi Jef, Did you know if I can do that setup with the Yamaha Montage and Maschine? thank you for the video.
You sure should be able to!
@Jeff and others - Can I do exactly what you(Jeff) did but using my Arturia Microfreak through a USB Mixer into my Mac?
You should be able to do so. Your Mac should see the mixer as an audio interface. In Maschine settings you should select the mixer as your audio I/O. Depending upon the USB mixer, you’ll have anything from the main out, to a record bus, or the individual channels. Where he talks about using his “Clarett”, you would substitute your mixer’s interface. Hope this helps.
Hey there love all the tutorials! Really helped me get up and going. Quick question, is there a way to do this with the Mikro mk3? Or do you have to have audio or mdid ports on the maschine hardware?
As long as you have an audio interface and MIDI interface (or keyboard with USB), you don't need the ones on Maschine...
Do you have those on your system?
@@jefgibbons My set up currently consists of the maschine Mikro Mrk3, Komplete audio2(no midi in/out ports), and now I have the Korg Monologue.
ah man!!! I didnt know you could lock auto with Shift. damn that makes things so much easier
What chords do you play on the Juno (3:41)? Sounds interesting.
Jef I just your maschine video. Please others ones !!! best regards. Frederic from France.
cool
After about 1 minute my external synths stop receiving midi from maschine mk3. Any idea what's going wrong?
Very good video indeed, but did you ever find a GOOD solution to saving (and especially retrieving) a patch number, (Bank and program Change) ? - I know how to create a macro for it, but it kind of sucks that you have to make a pattern with that information for each instrument. You don't show this in your video, so I presume you haven't found a nice solution for this?
Can you trigger chords and scales from maschine to hardware and record it?
Same question for me for chords and arp
Hey Jeff awesome vid. What computer do you use?
Thanks! An old trash can Mac Pro!
Great vid!
One question, I connected my sh01a but i only get the dry sound and applying effects only works after recording. Is there a way to add lets say raum reverb while playing in real time?
Thanks!
Search for my maschine guitar rig live input video!
@@jefgibbonsyeah i found it!
Gonna try it tomorrow.
Thanks a lot man!
if you load up a sound from within maschine, can you use the ext hardware as a controller?
As long as it has MIDI, yes you can!
Necesito de tu ayuda con mi AKAI 61 advance
hi somoone can help me?
i can not fing maschine virtual out midi
i use studio one 4 ... Win 10 thanks
Captain Chords ads be gone!
I created an external instrument with a bunch of CC macros. Works great on Maschine, but I can not see those macros on my KKS61 (mk1) keyboard. I bet it shows up on your MK2 keyboard...
Tim Shoebridge has a video about why the midi doesn't work on the Korg miniloque XD. Probably the same issue with yours.
So your keyboards go into a mixer and your mixer connects to machine.what about your audio interface?
Jeff juno 6 or Juno 60?
I Love All Of Your Tutorials, I Wish That You Taught Classes, So That I Can Better Understand. I Would Like To Know How Do I Get My Maschine Studio To Play Through My Studio Monitors ? I Am Using A Apollo Twin which Has No Midi Ports. I Am Running All Of My Hardware Gear Through A Mackie Mixer, Into My Apollo Twin, Into Presonus Monitor Station. HELP ! ! !
+TeaxsT hmm, you must have something wrong along the chain. Send me an email to jef at jefgibbons dot com, I’ll see if I can help you out!
Cant you just go direct look into the midi on the mk3 from your dx7 I have have a modx8 and love the organ sounds and want to use midi I don't have a clarett8 I got an apollo 8p
+Ramon Key yeah for sure you can use the midi on the mk3. You’ll still need to get the audio from the modx8 in as well.
Jef Gibbons Jeff thanks for the quick reply so I also need to send the send the audio into the line in on the mk3 from the modx. Also I can use this same line in to sample from my cell phone right?
I have a UAD apollo twin which has no midi inputs.. does this mean i am unable to use an analog synth as midi?
You’ll just need a separate midi interface, but they’re very cheap
@@jefgibbons I've been using an app on mac called Audio Midi Set Up to add the midi to my apollo with just a usb cable, :o been working so far
Hello, begginer question. How do you connect your Hardware synth to your Daw/Computer? Maybe its simple, can you explain
No problem Roland, I've got the keyboards with MIDI connected via a MIDI interface. Most audio interfaces these days have MIDI interfaces built-in. If you are using Maschine, it has MIDI on the back for a synth. Then I have the audio cables from the synth going to my audio interface so I can hear the synth. You can use Maschine's audio input for this. Lastly you need to turn on Direct Monitoring so you can always hear the synth through your interface. I don't believe Maschine has Direct Monitoring, (correct me if I'm wrong anyone!) so you have to select a sound to receive audio from your Maschine, and then activate the Monitor button that you will see at 2:58 in the video! Let me know if that answers your questions!
@@jefgibbons Thanks a lot
I just got an arturias minifreak and i could get it to record audio, but no matter what i do it wont do it in midi.
You should post some pics on the Arturia forum, most likely just one setting that is off.
Why did you need to do midi and audio for the dx7
Yeah i'm confused about this also
I think it was more to demonstrate that you can work this way than any need to do so.
Watching your video on external hardware. Seem you may have skipped how everything is connected and what exact settings to set MK3 at. I'm having a hard time following without that information.
I'm attempting to control my Fa-06 with the mk3. And help would be appreciated.
