Paul & Lynsey's Zoo Tour

While booking our trip to Prague, we decided that we would also visit Plzen Zoo as we had heard they had lots of unusual animals in their collection.
I booked a RegioJet bus to take us from Prague to Plzen. The return bus was a bargain £12, which included a coffee. A 1 hour bus trip and a pleasant 30 minute walk later and we arrived at the zoo.
The zoo is a lot bigger than I had imagined, and you certainly need at least a whole day to see everything.
There are numerous indoor houses, including the tropical pavilion, Madagascar and nocturnal house. These house some amazing and rare species, but some of the enclosures are not great. Hopefully in time they will be improved.
Dotted around the zoo are lots of small aviary's that contain numerous species of birds, some of which are rare in captivity, such as the Madagascar Blue-Pigeon, collared kingfisher and Kagu. It's a bit of a treasure hunt to find them all, but worth it to see some of the wonderful birds in their collection.
Other highlights were seeing our first kulan, and the brown bear enclosure is great: A large wooded area on a steep incline. Getting to the top takes some effort!
A great first visit, the only disappointment was having to leave before the zoo shut to make sure we didn't miss our bus. A return visit is definitely on the cards in the future.
