They couldn't have found a more fitting guitarist than Richie
Agreed 1000%!!!
This new Priest is one of their best albums. Along with Tool and Maiden there’s not much new music from the bands I grew up with. It took about 3 listens in Invincible Shield to get in to it but now I have been playing it over and over for a month now.
Great channel. You’re a phenomenal guitarist. Thanks for doing what you do and keeping the music alive and showing new generations what real music is.
I agree and I am still stunned by how good it is considering they've been making records for 50 years!
Thanks for the very kind compliment 🙏🏻🤘
Awesome work. I remember hearing this live in Cracow. That intro is so epic, for me it's an instant classic.
I feel very much the same!
it's absolutely stunning, when i first heard this i was so done haha
What a great guitarist saw them live last Sunday in Greece great Judas priest
If I didn’t know any better, I’d say his playing on this album is like a man who is grateful to be alive…oh wait 😊
Such a great intro and song. The solo might be my favorite on the new album too but it’s tough to choose.
Whole track is such an anthem, great build up in it even after this intro section, whole song tutorial would be brilliant
I met Richie in 2018 and can confirm he is such a sweet and humble guy. Definitely one of my favorite guitar players too.
Btw this is my favorite song on the new album. Such a powerful track.
That's awesome to hear! 😃
You could kind of tell by his interviews, but it's nice when your impression is validated, and it makes you appreciate the guy even more, somehow.
@@LicksOfTheBeast exactly! Andy Sneap was really cool too. Got both to sign my poster! 🤘🤘
Beautiful les Paul
Hellyeah bro was waiting for this lesson thank you
Cheers!! 🤜🤛
I saw Judas Priest (I must confess more for Sabaton) in Bangor Maine last April and I must say that Richie litteraly carries the band with his stage presence, style and most capable playing. I remember seeing him in March 2008 in Toronto before Maiden, even at that time he was good. My kind of guitarist!🤘
He's truly a gentleman, and you're as always great!
I absolutely love that riff. Has to be the best one written in the last 20 years
Fantastic breakdown and tutorial! My LOTB t-shirts are being delivered today btw….. can’t wait to see Priest again this Fall. Very glad you got to meet Richie and got the same impression that I did. Great guy!
That's fantastic and I want to reiterate how much I appreciate your exceptionally kind support. I know it's just words on here but I mean it in the most genuine way. Thank you!
Great work here, Brother! I was actually wondering if you were going to do this riff, haha. I'm really glad to hear Richie was aware of the channel. I'm not surprised, but I'm glad to hear it. Very deserved. Thanks for all the work again and for sharing with us. Gonna go learn the riff now!
dude... another Richie riff that I have been playing wrong until now, thank you!!
Glad I could help! It's a fantastic riff and so fun to play 😊
Grandissimo Nico, and with HB lp!!
Grazie mille! Eh sì... È la SC 500 ed è davvero eccezionale. 😃
@@LicksOfTheBeast fantastico, ha richiesto molto più di un buon set up con corde nuove x rendere il suo potenziale?
Richie is amazing, saw him live last week with priest and with elegant weapons.
Great job Nico. Just seen Judas Priest live in Madrid last week. Amazing show, but, unfortunately, they didn't play this song, one of my favorites from the latest album.
Rip
Ahhhh yeah I feel ya.. buuuut it looks like they played Gates Of Hell which is a killer substitute! 🤘
I will get the tabs. Thanks for the video!
Thank you so much watching and for helping support the channel!! C'est fort apprécié 😊
amazing dude, really amazing sound very very accurate
Great video! Thank you!
Hey Nico, wonderful video as always! Elegant Weapons album is also great. Would love to see a video picking apart horns for a halo or bitter pill. Keep up that awesome work!
He is amazing, I'll see them in less than a month with Accept and Bruce Dickinson on the same bill. Well done Nico!
Wow! 🤯 That is gonna be one sick show!!!
If I could afford it, I would buy Richie’s V.
Awesome flying V.
Yup, I agree.
Hell yeah! The new explorer is pretty f'n awesome too 🤤🤤
Great intro, reminds me a lot of a mix of randy rhoads+dimebag in some spots
Very nice video again!
I places this intro reminds me a bit of The Prisoner by Maiden and Floods by Pantera.
That Harley Benton does sound pretty good.
It's a fantastic guitar and it's almost completely stock except for the pickups. I will probably talk about it in a future video 🙂
Excellent video, about excellent some music. You point out Crown of Horns is tuned down a half step, as you noted Iron Maiden's Powerslave was done a half step up from standard. Question: what motivates someone to sharpen or flatten entire songs in the first place? I totally understand the functional difference between standard and drop-D, but up/down tuning all the strings seems like a complicated way to achieve what could also be done writing the song a half step up or down. What am I missing?
And when your library contains works in various altered tunings, how do you manage this during tours? Do you bring a set of guitars in each tuning, retune between songs, what are the practices for this?
Anyway, keep up the fantastic work, Nico!
Thank you!!
The short and simple explanation is that when it comes to rock and metal, the guitar sounds best when you can use open strings for chords and repeated tones in riffs (what we call a pedal point in music). Attempting to reproduce this piece with the same tones using a guitar in standard tuning would result in some very awkward fingerings and it would not sound as good without the same articulation, especially without the pull-offs to the open strings.
As for the motivation for tuning down in the first place, sometimes a song will just feel better in a different key, but most often it's to better accommodate the singer's natural vocal range, or make it a little easier by bringing the pitches down one semitone.
I hope this helps clarify that a bit 🙂
@@LicksOfTheBeast The ergonomics and open-string optimization make a great deal of sense, but the I didn't even consider the vocalist in the equation. This absolutely makes the tuning alterations make a lot more sense. Many thanks, Nico!
I’m pissed that they’re not coming back to Utah. They came two years ago for their 50th anniversary tour. I don’t get it. But glad you had fun Nico.
I hear ya... I had to drive from Toronto to Kalamazoo and then to Syracuse to see them and I'll probably be traveling again somewhere in the US for this upcoming leg just because Priest and Sabaton together is something I am so thankful to be able to enjoy on this side of the ocean!
@@LicksOfTheBeast I wish I could travel for a show again…I flew out to Denver last year to see Helloween with HammerFall as the opener. One of my favorite shows ever. Love Helloween. Might like them a tad more than Maiden….but yeah good times.
It's just a short 2.5 hrs flight to the Dallas show in October 26. You should try going.
I took a flight to Boston from DC for the second leg of the 50th anniversary tour in 2022. I saw them on the first leg in Oxon Hill, MD.
Ritchie entered the hall of legends when he played the painkiller solo meanwhile his chest was filling with his heart pumped blood.
This unique tasty solo reminds me 80% EVH & 20% Randy Rhoads. It's pure heart (sewed 😂)
Thanks for the video, will try put my ol' rusty fingers to it 🙏🏻
Why don't you show your band 🎉
If I didn’t know any better, I’d say his playing on this album is like a man who is grateful to be alive…oh wait 😊
I don't want to assume what's in someone else's mind but I can say he is playing with a lot of fire and passion on the album and especially on stage! 🤩
