Nico my friend, let me say with shame that as a 45 year old, this band flew under the radar all these years for me...until this video. Already hooked on this song, bought it on itunes and will learn this on guitar this weekend, can't wait! Thank you my friend :)
Ah man... There are so many bands that flew under my radar too. So much great music, never enough time 😅 Glad you enjoyed this video and I hope you have a blast learning and playing this gem of a tune!
What a great breakdown of outstanding composition and playing by one of my favorite guitarists. He's like Elliot Easton, doing what is exactly right for the song context. We saw Mark recently on the Monsters of Rock Cruise and he's still crushing it!
@@LicksOfTheBeast I just got into playing guitar about a year and a half ago, now I’m sure youve been playing for quite some time but have you ever felt emotion listening to a solo. Like the pick scrape and the hammer ons and pull offs for Lady Red Light for some reason I get goose bumps and I feel something. Don’t know what it is can’t really describe it.
Thank you for highlighting Mark.. What an amazing guitarist. When people ask me who my biggest guitar influences are, Mark Kendall is always in there. Sorely underrated. House of Broken love is a great Mark moment, It's hard to say which solo of his is my favorite as they are all so good, classy, clean and absolutely full of soul.. But, This one and Love is a Lie off of Psycho City album gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to them. Another hugely under rated guitarist is Stevie Blaze from Lillian Axe
Ahhh Nicko man what a lesson ! This song brings me right back to the trials, tribulations and burning passions of my teenage years and the desperate yearning love that accompanies them with usually the wrong girl lol. Brilliant brilliant lesson man \m/ Congo square would be a cool lesson too!
Great song. Always loved Mark Kendall, much like Tom Keifer. They looked like hair metal bands but sounded like straight up blues rock guitarist. They had the soul that was missing from a lot of the bands at the time.
Thank you for sharing this. Mark has always been a favorite guitar player of mine. This is by far one of the best songs & series of solos from the 80s. I met Mark at LaVela beach club in PCB back in 1994 & he was just the nicest guy along with a killer player.
I love that strat color. Desert sand? The ending of that solo, although a simple riff, gives me goosebumps every time. Sometimes less is more if the chosen notes are just perfect for the song
Hey Nicko, Great guitar playing anf great video as always but personally I really miss the Iron Maiden contents in the channel. When could we have a good IM song breakdown or something :)
Couldn't agree more! Great white was my favorite hair band, and nobody talks about them. I could have sworn that Ty longley was the lead player and not Mark Kendall.. I always thought this song was special, however, it sounds closely ripped off from Ronnie montrose's band in the early 80s, Gamma, on the song Voyager!!!
You are trying to be as technical as possible, but it comes off as a very poetic explanation. My next band will be ....... Contexturalised. Your approach is so earnest and accomplished. Cheers!
Thank you! Honestly, I always try to keep a balance between technique, what's going on musically, and just an overall appreciation for the music itself as a fan. Good to know it doesn't come across as overly nerdy 😅
The repetition of that descending hook (8:15) one octave lower in the outro is absolutely devastating, the normal version is melancholic, as if it comes from a distant memory, the one at the end it sounds like the shattering of all illusions and hopes. Great writing!
I find the ideal thing is to get a tube screamer or mxr distortion and an EQ pedal to remove some of the low mids and boost the high mids a bit... The rest is all up to how you play. Good luck!!
I'll throw these out as some of the big gems of hard rock power ballads, well known or rare. November Rain, who? Great White - House of Broken Love Bonfire - You Make Me Feel Black Sabbath - Feels Good to Me Hericane Alice - Too Late Scorpions - To Be With You in Heaven Cinderella - Don't Know What You Got Great White - Save Your Love Black Sabbath - Dying For Love Nevada Beach - Only the Fool (uploaded on yt years ago by myself) Skid Row - plenty ... Dokken - where to even begin
That's a nice solo but what about the incredible solo by George Lynch in Dokken's "Walk Away?" Or how about the astounding main and outro solos by Reb Beach in Winger's "Headed For A Heartbreak?" Or Randy Rhoads' SPECTACULAR outro on "Tonight"- even though we ALL curse the label and sound engineer for starting a CRIMINALLY PREMATURE FADE OUT. Randy and music fans got SCREWED.
I only discovered this song a few months ago, Doesn’t seem like they had many hits, I don’t think they were that popular or well known in the UK even though people compare them a bit to Led Zeppelin.
The worst of the so called "hair metal" band (dumb definition since the REAL BIG haired guys were in the 70's) is better than the best of the grunge garbage .
too easy to be called the Best. . . Speaking of power ballads .. there's 2 solos that are THE BEST .. those are Life goes On Solo by CC De Ville . . and I remember you by Scottie Hill. . this solo you refer to is beginner sounding . . cannot be called the best ..
I always liked that song precisely because of the solos. and the blues
Tabarnak Nico😳😳😳😳😳😳😳. T’as reussi à cloner à la perfection le solo. Incroyable…..juste incroyable
😂😂😂
Mille mercis!! C'est super gentil 🙏🏻🙏🏻🤘🤘
That was killer. it does bring back a lot of memories.
wow, brings back old memories. there's 1 or 2 songs ocassionally heard on the radio, but never this one. MK is a phenomenal player.
Great choice. Mark Kendall is pure taste. This is a top 5 or top 10 hard rock ballad. And Jack Russell ... truly a god of vocals.

Thank you so much and it's great to see that Mark is still the man 😊
Sounds great
One of my favorite 80's bands. Many great songs in their old catalog. MK is a very underrated guitarist.
Iconic solo(s).
It needs to be said: Nico, you really nailed this solo, brother! Very impressed with the emotion you were able to convey.
1000 thanks, man!! I wanted to do this one justice after all these years - it really means a lot to me!
When I first heard Mark Kendall’s solo for lady red light, I was hooked!
His phrasing on that solo is very cool. That's such a great song too!

Kendall is awesome! 🤘👽🎸
That is my 2nd favorite solo. The 1st is Return to Serenity by Testament. Thanks dude!

Best power blues ballad!!! Great record and great vid!

Hahaha oh I hear ya, man! it does the same for me... 😅
Nice work Niko. I love great white. I have a guitar autographed by everyone but Jack.
Great song. Always loved Mark Kendall, much like Tom Keifer. They looked like hair metal bands but sounded like straight up blues rock guitarist. They had the soul that was missing from a lot of the bands at the time.
well said
Mark Kendall is the most under rated of all the guitar players of that era, IMO.
I agree!
Thank you for sharing this. Mark has always been a favorite guitar player of mine. This is by far one of the best songs & series of solos from the 80s. I met Mark at LaVela beach club in PCB back in 1994 & he was just the nicest guy along with a killer player.
That's awesome! He always did come across as a cool dude 😊
Absolutely amazing and Unique song & guitar solo.
Did a cover myself a few months ago
Excelente análisis.
Enhorabuena!!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🔥🎸🔥⚡🎸🔥👋🏼
Don't know how I missed this one..Good stuff. Check out Gary Moore Empty Rooms for 80s ballad soloing..
I'm going to have to try and play that now.
I truly is a blast to play along with!
Glad this will reach a wider audience on the LOTB channel….. great analysis of a masterpiece of a tune!
I hope so! Mark's playing definitely deserves more attention 😊
And thank you so much!
I love that strat color. Desert sand? The ending of that solo, although a simple riff, gives me goosebumps every time. Sometimes less is more if the chosen notes are just perfect for the song
This is what Fender calls Honey Blonde 😊
This one is fire
I like the Hooked Album. Thank you for the interesting explanation, as always. 👍🏻
Thank you for watching! 🤜🤛
Oh my, HOBL is from Twice Shy and not the Hooked album. 🥴
Hey Nicko,
Great guitar playing anf great video as always but personally I really miss the Iron Maiden contents in the channel. When could we have a good IM song breakdown or something :)
Oh, I'm working on a some very cool Maiden stuff so there is plenty of that to come! 😊
@@LicksOfTheBeast Cool, looking forward to watch them
YT algo got me here. Need to dash but subbed, this is great stuff!
Glad you found the channel and thank you for sticking around for more!! 🤜🤛

The main guitar part is taken directly from Frank Zappa's Sexual Harrasment in the Workplace.

Such an incredible tone you have to go with your playing. What kind of settings are you using in Neural?
Not afraid to admit that I’ve never heard this song or band before.
That's one of the perks of being a music fan in 2024... You get to discover a bunch of great new (and not so new) music all the time! 😊
The repetition of that descending hook (8:15) one octave lower in the outro is absolutely devastating, the normal version is melancholic, as if it comes from a distant memory, the one at the end it sounds like the shattering of all illusions and hopes. Great writing!
Enjoy your videos 👍. Can you suggest a pedal or 2 that mite get me a little closer to Iron Maiden tone with my little Marshall 30w ? Much appreciated

Yeah I hated fade outs that seem to happen too early. Hell, Freebird is a long song and it fades out, but it still sounded like there was more. 😂
The Walk Away solo is incredible. Great mention.
Dave Sabo
Into Another
In a Darkened Room
Quicksand Jesus
So many better guitars out there in the 80s like Vito Berratta
Never liked the hair metal term. Always loved Great White...
I don't even recall ever hearing that term back then. 🤔🤷🏻
@@LicksOfTheBeast I have always called it hard rock, as it was then. People like EVH were over protective in distancing themselves from the mortals.
I only discovered this song a few months ago, Doesn’t seem like they had many hits, I don’t think they were that popular or well known in the UK even though people compare them a bit to Led Zeppelin.
Yeah I'm pretty sure they were much more well-known on this side of the pond. Definitely a great band with some truly great music 😊
