Filling Randy Rhoades' shoes is not an easy task, but Jake E. Lee did justice to Randy's legacy and put his own imprint on Ozzy's music. What a legend, thanks for rewinding!
Jake’s playing I feel was most intricate, original, and explosive out of all Ozzy’s former players. If you cover Randy’s , Zack, and Jake’s playing you should be able to see that!
Jake is my favorite Ozzy guitarist and this song never gets old... and BTW the first 2 Badlands albums are legendary. And you are a badass guitarist, Nico!
This song in its entirety is a masterpiece product of a Golden Age. A trinket of a recording to send in space for other galactic civilizations to hear.
I discovered Randy Rhoads playing after his death. It was so far over my head I was in awe of his playing. I bought a Doug Marks cassette (how to play like Randy Rhoads) with tabs and learned a lot of runs and blues based licks I still use today. What a complete master and one of the greatest to ever play guitar. Jake was a totally different player. A beast in his own right and carried the torch far beyond metal. His rhythm player was masterful and his leads are still influencing players today. Bark at the Moon is still a go to in my collection. I never get tired of its sound, feel and great musicianship!
I remember those Doug Marks ads in all the magazines. I never did order one so maybe I should look it up on here... Better 35 years late than never? 😬🤷🏻😅
A very overlooked Ozzy guitarist by many. Im a huge fan. Unique style, unreal riffs, iconic solos and his albums were amazing!! So different from Randy too but kept the feel of Ozzy 🤘

This is personal blasphemy for me to say this (...as Randy Rhoads is my all time favorite guitarist...by far!), but this, to me, is Ozzy's best "solo career" song. Hands down. It has everything that I personally love. A great driving main riff that never lets up the entire song. And the solos, well they're just spectacular. Both are fantastic. I can listen to this song on a loop and never get tired of it. Some Jake fans might disagree, but to me it's Jake's finest work from start to finish. A metal tour de force! As an aside, I don't want to forget the impact Bob Daisley also had in the writing of this and many of Ozzy's early "solo career" songs.
It's a very unique sounding piece of music, that's for sure! The riffs, melodies, the vibe... It blew my mind when I first heard it 40 years ago and, like you, I can't get tired of this song!
Great breakdown to help me dial this one in. Never played this song live with my band but I play this song at home frequently just because its an amazing tune on every level and helps improve my overall technique . Fun and challenging simultaneously.
You are absolutely right! The number of technically proficient covers, of this solo and of music in general, that fall completely flat are too many to count! People learn the techniques but forget that they are but a tool for expression. Great video as always man.

I was in my mid-teens when I saw the concert supporting this album. It was my first real HEAVY concert. It was Mötley Crüe on the Shout at the Devil tour, and Ozzy Osbourne, supporting Bark at the Moon. Wow!!! I was hooked!!! 41 years later, the riffs in this song, the solo, and the song itself, are just as addictive as ever. Thanks as always, for explaining things so well and painting such a great picture.

completely agree with your last statement, that's what makes it a great solo, the emotion and feeling. same happens with janick's blood brothers (maiden), george lynch's alone again (dokken), mick mars' home sweet home (motley crue), solos to name a few that came into my mind, that they have that special emotion that makes you want to not just listen it 1000 times but also learn it, no matter if you're a pro or a begginer

Would love a comparison between the way Rhoads did those Sabbath songs and the way the other guys did them like Iommi, Lee and Wylde, I find that interesting.
Jake did a great job with shoes that could not be filled with Randy Rhoads. He was his own guy, he sounded different. But he did follow some of the Rhoads and Daisley blueprint on the songs.
I think Jake just walked into an impossible situation. I read an interview back in the day where Ozzy said that he wouldn't have been Brad Gillis for anything in there world because "you have to me one stone cold mother to get up there after a guy got burnt up in a crash". I always got the feeling that he carried this feeling until he started working with Zakk who, for various reasons, likely reminded him of Randy. That, plus the fact that more time and had passed, plus the rehab... Probably all helped it feel more like a fresh start. And I'm sure Zakk's personality helped too because I have a feeling Jake might have been a bit more headstrong than what Ozzy and crew were willing to accommodate. As for the sound, ability, and playing style, judging only by everything I have heard so far, I don't believe there was any technical disparity between the two. Musically, Randy would have been more knowledgeable and perhaps had a stronger melodic sensibility. Not that Jake isn't a melodic player... because clearly is! Jake's compositions I find have an unshakeable 80s era melancholy behind them... Almost like those parts were written after coming down from a coke binge or something... 😅 I love listening to those songs, but let's just say they are not exactly uplifting. That was long winded AF, wasn't it? 😅
Every time i hear this solo its like I'm hearing it for the first time. I think its definitely top 5 all time for Ozzy's solos, along with over the mountain and Miracle Man, which was such a jake inspired solo. My personal opinion is he was Ozzy's most influential guitarist. Randy was amazing obviously, but jake laid the foundation for Zach later. Jake had his demons but the way the Osborne's, particularly sharon, treated him was disgusting. Then again she did the same thing to George Lynch before Jake joined the band.
