(not entirely sure those books are still there though, considering my mom's reaction when she saw some of the illustrations in one of the books about mumification I borrowed lol)

There is a version of the Seth and Horus baby gravy mediation story I've read before. Instead of the Seth disk/crown, it was Thoth that popped out of Seths head and that was how Thoth was born.
Either way, both versions involve Seth and Horus having a "family game night", Horus playing catch, Isis seasoning Seths salad and Seth pulling a backfired stunt in front of the other gods and the result has something to do with Thoth
Thats also why Thoth has the titels "son of the two lords" and "son of two rivals". Or Osiris calling him "seed of my seed". And why, in some versions ,Thoth gets to be the next king after Horus.

I learned almost everything about Egyptian Mythology when I was in Elementary school, and I don't think child me saw ANYTHING wrong, or inappropriate about this story. (Now I know why my mom wasn't 100% comfortable about me learning about this stuff. I always thought she was just a bit squirmish when it came to mumification lol)

@@alejotassile6441 Oh no, I remember little me being kinda weirded out about that whole "Set tried to r@pe Horus, and Horus putting his 'seed' on lettuce for Set to eat" part. The part that weirded me out the MOST was the part were Set basically got pregnant. Even as a third/fourth grader I was like "That isn't how it work though..." Even as a third/fourth grader, I was aware that different cultures had different beliefs, so I was just like "Eh, whatever.🤷♀"

As an Egyptologist I have to give praise where it's due. Suprisingly on point! Although high Hieroglyphs start out "easy" trust me when I tell you that is one of the hardest languages and writting systems to learn and I conquerd german xD also please don't give ppl Ideas, I don't want weird words or symbols that mean nothing in a magic language on ppls bodys xDDD

I’ve been waiting a long time for this.
Thoth called himself a refugee of Atlantis, according to his Emerald Tablets. It is mostly a book of the laws of physics, which he says you must read 100x in order to get it (I’m at 5x), but it contains a lot more than “just” science. He said he brought the architecture (pyramids) of Atlantis to Ancient Egypt. Most interesting are his descriptions of his astral traveling of the universe. He says he observed one race of beings on a distant planet that he called “real” gods, unlike himself, whom he considered an imposter of gods. These beings could create anything they wanted with a thought, whereas he could not. In another story, he reaches the barrier of the universe, & is chased back into his body by the ferocious guard dogs he found there, him barely escaping their gnashing teeth, desperate to devour his soul. He recommends that you never attempt such a feat, because the dogs would surely get you. He says you must NOT go straight back to your body, so the dogs don’t find it, but instead take a round about course so that you might lose them. He is said to have written over 38,000 books, which have almost all been lost to us. He speaks about how he survived so long, including how he would meditate for hours every day, orienting himself to the 4 cardinal directions, realigning his energies to the earth. He also said he would live for a 100 years, & then would hibernate for 900 years, awakening rejuvenated. He said he did this many, many times over thousands & thousands of years. He also said that he could reincarnate into other bodies as well, also extending his life even further.
What became of Thoth? 🤷🏻♂️ Some say he went to the New World, bringing his Nubian master stoneworkers (the Olmec?) to help craft the pyramids we find in the Americas. Some think his new name in the New World was Quetzalcoatl, sometimes called the Feathered Serpent

I used to be an honors high school physical science & biology teacher, & I would have to read passages over & over again to grasp what he’s talking about. -Btw, you can find several RUclips videos where the Emerald Tablets are narrated to you. That’s how I “read” them.

Thoth is quite an interesting figure; he tends to be a Neutral figure; from what I've managed to find on him on my own, he typically chose not to take sides in conflicts.
That all said, Ptah should get a video in this series as soon as possible. As I said before, in the last comment I mentioned in a prior video in this series, Ptah is the God of Creation and was responsible for the creation of everything and has the title of "Unmade Creator" because he created his own body but also exists outside of creation.

Thank you for all the amazing videos. I learned all about Roman, Greek, and Norse Mythology back in high-school but we never got into Egyptian Mythology. So please keep this series up and continue the longer and more detailed stories, they are amazing and your presentation is top notch... Unlike my high-school mythology teacher, you have never put me to sleep with the detailed explanations and long stories... thats a rare talent so keep cultivating it!

Thoth's Kemetic name (one variant) is Tehuti.
I am only too thrilled that you approach these myths with the respect they are due. I am especially since there are many of us worshipping these divinities even now, which the visual clue of my image and name may have told you.
There are many myths, in one Set tore Thoth's arm off and threw His book in the Nile which obviously didn't prevent Him from restoring both.
Oh... and a minor note, the moon is male to the ancient Egyptians.
Iah was seen as the moon though He has/had no roles or cult.
Khonsu is the ultimate moon divinity, son of Amun and Mut, it is from him that Thoth won enough light to create the 5 Days Upon the Year (Khonsu loves games).
Horu(s) was associated with the sun and the moon early in Egypt's history, them being His two Eyes.
In the case of Thoth winning the light explains why the moon is not much brighter, waxing and waning. The waxing and waning was also explained by Set tearing out that Eye in their contending's. Here again Thoth winds up restoring the Eye (and Set's testicles which Horus tore out after the Eye was injured.)
Amun was correct about us and writing. Yes, writing gave us much, though in the doing we did and are losing some things.
How many are old enough to remember a time when you needed to keep every friend and family member's phone numbers to call via rotary or touch tone land line phones.
Even today many of us don't even memorize our own phone number because apart from filling out applications or forms we don't call ourselves.
Get out of the habit and you will lose it, keep that brain working like any "muscle" needs stimulation and exercise so too does it.

Njörðr from Norse mythology is similar. He's featured in 5 stories, near as I can tell. In chronological order.
1. The Æsir/Vanir war, where he and his twins willingly become prisoners/guests of the Æsir in order to end said war.
2. He has such beautiful feet that he ends up becoming the husband of Skadi in order for her to not attempt to kill everyone in Asgard.
3. He warns his son (Freyr) not to give up his magic sword in order to woo Gymir. Freyr didn't listen and ended up dying during Ragnarok
4. At the diner where Loki insulted everyone he hurled some transphobic comments at Loki in defense of the twins (Freyr and Freyja)
5. He was mentioned as fighting alongside his wife Skadi at the battle of Ragnarok
The only time he was kind of a jerk it was toward Loki, who was being a jerk to everyone else... and it did reveal some bigotry in Norse culture.
In my view, our old Gods representer the diversity in life. Our religion today is kind of black/white, God and Devil. Personally I prefer a " multicoloured" world.

Thank you! I've always loved Thoth - when I went to Egypt, many, many years ago, I bought a little statue of Thoth in Ibis form from the Cairo museum: he watches over my computer when I write.
Wow, being able to visit Egypt is something special. I only studied parts of it in art history.
When it comes to memory, a person may never truly forget something. A person can remember things if they are reminded of it in some way. This is why writing would be more useful in memory. If a person has no way to recall something, there is no way that memory will return in its full glory. You may be able to strain to pull small parts of a memory, but unless you write down the full memory, there is no way to remember the whole thing.
Primary teacher here. Nobody should ever feel bad for mispronouncing a word they learned through reading, especially in languages like English! Words with 'ugh' are particularly irritating (cough, through, etc) and in the case of 'draughts', the 'gh' makes an 'f' sound, so 'drafts'. The number of times I have apologised to kids for English's horrible spelling! If you learn German, possibly with Babble, you will see how much better it does with spelling!

Yeah, I’ve heard it said that you should never criticize someone for a mispronunciation, because it means they’ve learned it on their own, by reading, instead of hearing it said. You can obviously correct them, but you should only do so in a non-critical or non-judgmental manner. I know this by experience, because it was years before I learned how to properly say Goethe or Jung. And even still I’m resistant on saying Van Gogh properly, as it sounds weird with us Americans always saying it wrong
@@dafttool Very true! It's so sad that people think a mispronunciation, misspelling or something like that, means lower intelligence, when it more often than not, shows them to be pushing themselves and learning more.
With Van Gogh, he knew people would have difficulty with his name, so he kindly signed 'Vincent' instead. Sounds a bit informal, but I tell my students they can call him that, after playing a Dutch person pronouncing his surname properly!

Thoth is a representation of thought (logic / reason) all the stories are metaphors for the application of logic / reason / ideas by a person in situations ( also the game draughts is pronounced "drafts" and not "droughts" 😆)
I was looking for this pronunciation of droughts. It is how the British spell drafts. Like other words such as honour=honor, neighbour=neighbor, programme=program.

Zachariah Sitchen's Books The one Entitled; The Wars of God's and Men cover this and the Book Entitled; The Lost Book of Enki it's excellent. I bought those books online for a really great deal too. (They were used, but almost perfect) Thoth Is/Was very Wise. Thank you for this one because it's really good. Ra, was actually Marduk, who was Enki and his Sisters Son. Marduk/Ra's Grandfather was Annu (Annunaki). There's another really good book Entitled; The Only Planet Of Choice "Essential Briefings From Deep Space" by Phyllis Schlemmer (Gene Roddenberry is one of the Questioner). The story you told, was retold in other Cultures and the Names were changed to protect the Innocent. You're right on the money for all of your research. Thank you for your dedication. The Krewe of Thoth is one of the best and most popular Mardi Gras parades in New Orleans and is partially responsible for my interest in ancient egypt. All the iconography of the parade was fascinating to me as a kid.
Thoth is definitely an oddball among gods, but I would rather have him on my side.

Part of the origin of the Horus/Set story comes from the natural white latex called lactucarium that some lettuces produce when cut.

Egyptian mythology is some of my favorite just because of how insanely jumbled and disorienting it is. It's just insane that every random that had an imagination could come up with a story about one of their gods and their buddy's are just like ya, that all sounds about right, then go on to tell it until thousands of years later it's just part of the mythology.
That's what I like about it too, it's not like there's one moral or lesson to each story, there like a wild rollercoaster ride.

I'm a kemetic pagan, and Thoth is one of the gods I work with. He can be a bit uh...peckish, no pun intended, when it comes to worship and works, but once you got him figured out he's actually really interesting to work with and he's also helped my own writing.
That being said, Dua Thoth! Or his Egyptian name: Dua Djheuty! ^.^
according to my research thus far, Thoth was one of the few that didn’t acc claim to be a “God” and actually helped human beings instead of trying to deceive them into worshipping him.

You would have liked my 10th grade geography teacher. He made us fill out a us map with the state and capitals. We did it so much that I still remember all 50 to this day. He was also the person who gave me my love of travel. He would break out his slides for all his travels. He would takes weeks out off of textbook learnings to show us pictures of his travels. I had him for 2 years (geography and world history).....and I never saw the same slide twice.
