If you need a killer guitar solo, check out Rebel Yell or Dancing With Myself. And as the former singer for Generation X, a foundational British punk band, this just took him to a whole new level.
Rebel Yell, Eyes Without a Face, Dancing With Myself, Flesh for Fantasy. White Wedding was big on early MTV and was everyone's introduction to Billy Idol.
Fabulous list of great songs. Billy was the 80s and every party and dance. We took for granted how good he was.Consistently good. But the MOST fun we had back in the day, was to Mony, Mony! Ride the pony!! There are a lot of banging songs from the 1980s!
The thing is, Steve Stevens is his guitarist. Stevens does great solos, but doesn’t need to solo to wow you with his guitar wizardry. He is responsible for much of Billy’s solo success.
Truth. I will also add that not every song needs a guitar solo. I know it's something that works for some songs, but for others, it's not necessary. I never missed it once in this song in almost 40 years, but somehow knew that it was going to get dinged because it didn't have one. It should NOT be a criteria for a good song.

Alex on point-ish! Billy wrote this for his kid sister who was about to get married! I don't know if she was pregnant, but a shotgun wedding IS when a groom is made to marry the girl he got pregnant. Great scores!!!
Urban legend. Idol described what the song was about on VH1's "Storytellers". His sister's wedding was just the inspiration, its not about her nor written for her. Its not about anyone. Its about fictional people.

Man I’ve heard this song SO many times over the years that it blows my mind there’s a whole generation of people that could have possibly grown up having never heard this song at least once. Idol is an icon from the 80s. And even after he gets over played, it’s still enjoyable. At least to me. I’ve never thought “oh god, this song” with an Idol song even after he wore out on me personally seeking him out to listen to.
I think that Billy Idol’s look might be reminding Andy of a character from the Buffy The Vampire Slayer series, Spike, who has almost the exact same look. A running joke in the show was that Billy Idol actually stole the look from Spike, who is a 400-year-old vampire that resented being thought of as a Billy Idol wannabe.
Legend has it, that Billy wrote this when he started doing drugs again after a clean period. "White wedding", "I've been away for so long" and "Time to start again" pretty much sounds like it...
Eyes Without a Face is a ballad, but there's a little meat to it as well. It's the next one to do, and a complete different side of him. It was a huge hit also
I DJed college dance nights back in the day... and all I'm saying is, this song would bring all the drunken sorority girls out to the dance floor, and they would work themselves into a complete frenzy over it. Worked every time
LOL, I recall being in drunken college bars & people going crazy on the dance floor. Guys playing air guitar, guys lying on the floor. And, then someone bumps someone wrong & the big fight ensues.
Billy was huge in the 80s. When he showed up at clubs or parties, other celebrities took notice and virtually every female under 30 on the planet thought he was the cat's meow. Legend for sure.
Guys, keep in mind, this was a charting pop song that also had massive rotation on MTV, when they actually played videos. Try Eyes Without a Face. Also a massive hit of his, but good song.
A while ago we saw the Who perform Quadrophenia, Billy Idol sung the part of the "punk". OMG he had the voice & stage presence, he was electrifying. I feel very fortunate to have seen him perform.
There is a DVD out of The Who doing both Tommy and Quadrphenia live (different tours) where Billy does his bit as The Face if you'd like to see it again.
Watch his video for his song UHF, he parodies Billy visually. And he sang a cover of Rebel Yell live once. Billy even liked it. And almost forgot he did parody Mony Mony as Alimony.
I distinctly remember sweeping the parking lot of Taco Bell (my high school job) and rocking out to this on my cassette Walkman with my first pair of in-ear headphones. Such a great song and gritty voice!
Keep in mind. Michael Jackson openly admitted he lifted Billy Jean's baseline from Hall & Oates's I Can't Go for That. Hall & Oates, basically said "That's cool". Ahhh, the 80's, I wish you were there.
80s lady, so have always loved Billy Idol ofc. But I FLOVE him in the Wedding Singer, it always feels to me like he is totally sweet like that IRL, despite his bad boy image of days gone by. Guess I was right! 😁
Welcome to the brilliance of Steve Stevens. Billy is great too! If you ever do "Rebel Yell" remember that the "Keyboard intro" is actually Steve on guitar. Possibly the most underrated guitarist of his era.
Awesome tune - Billy paid his dues early on, he wasn't a flash-in-the-pan. He deejays a show on Sirius XM that's really good too if you enjoy punk. He also played the part of "Face" in the Who's Quadrophenia tour in the 90s.
Billy played a quick draw thug in the movie Mad Dog Time (aka Trigger Happy) hired to have a showdown with Jeff Goldblum's character who was known around a syndicate run nightclub to be the quickest gun in the area. Shot poor billy dead. Underrated film. Still love his slogan..."Show Me"...
Interesting fact. Spike on Buffy the vampire slayers character was based off of Billy Idol. The joke in the show was with Spike being such an old vampire he said that Billy Idol stole his look. Anyway just some small tidbit to add some interest. Love this song my husband and I danced down the isle to this song. I think you would really like "Rebel Yell". Honestly he has several great songs. As always guys fantastic reaction. Have a great weekend.
This is just Part 1 of the song; the full song includes Part 2 and is over 8 minutes long. Good catch on the Michael Jackson similarities as Billy Idol's guitarist Steve Stevens worked with Michael on his album "Bad"; "Dirty Diana" was him. Also, on the Jim Morrison comparison, Billy had a great cover of "L.A. Woman", so you aren't the only ones who saw that. "Rebel Yell" should be next as it showcases the guitar more and is an amazing song.
Yeah Steve Stevens is an absolute master... you can catch him on Vince Neil's solo album, some solo work, and with Terry Bozzio and Tony Levin, "Bozzio Levin Stevens"🤯
He was an important figure in British punk's earliest days, so he's come a long way. I saw Billy in Vegas a few years ago, and it was damn fine rock show. The man is a pro. He owned that crowd, especially the middle-age women. Everybody left the concert feeling satisfied. Well done, Billy.
This was released 31 minutes ago. If I wait a bit will you do Rebel Yell - cause you'll freaking love that ! His guitarist is phenomenal - you're missing a lot - they're great stage performers too.
Hot In The City, Cradle Of Love, etc... love Billy. Saw him live in 1983 in Miami at the Sunrise Musical Theater. Awesome live performer. Tons of energy on stage, Steve was such an awesome guitarist live were a great team.
Have to go with something from Rebel Yell. There's not a bad cut on the whole album. All the hits are great, Eyes without a face, Flesh for Fantasy, the title track, but so many other great songs like Blue Highway & Catch my Fall.
I am so proud of you boys for finally getting around to some of the "Best of the 80's" and Billy played a B-I-G part in that first half of the decade. Andy... the song is GREAT because it DOESN'T have a guitar solo. Every song in the 80's had a guitar solo as back then every guitarist wanted to prove he was as good as Eddie Van Halen... all tired, all failed. It felt like you two have been lost in your own sauce lately but Billy Idol's 'White Wedding' definitely was a jailbreak. This was absolutely one of the best songs coming out of the 80's and still stands the test of time. Listening to it today, it's just as good as when it originally came out.
Billy Idol one of the best gigs I've ever been to. Just him and Sreve Stevens little amp standing in the middle of the crowd with the an empty stage in the background
Rebel Yell has a laser gun held to the strings during the solo... he has the gun in his hand playing live. Maybe the original recording was some modulator turned way up but it's a ray gun now. Check it out! The one negative hear is the dance drumbeat in the breakdown... very 80s.
Steve Stevens is an extremely underrated guitarist, you should check out the live Unplugged version of this tune. Billy Idol also did a killer cover of "LA Woman".
Sooooo 80s. I feel that this song is best viewed with the music video. There is so much visual content to support the song, not least of is Billy Idol himself raising his trademark fist in the air while sneering. Also, once you see the video, there's a spoof video with alternate lyrics that's hilarious.
Got a backstage pass and got to sit right across Billy Idol when we had dinner backstage. We talked a bit and I found him to be a real nice guy. Down to earth guy.
Steve Steven isn't who you'd first think of when you're told to list the greatest guitar-heros... but his ability can't be overrated. Ice cold gripping rythms, technical solos when needed, and lots of crazy 80s foolery, always with taste and musicality.
Alex always says he's not a fan of 80s production but his own music totally sounds 80s. This tune was produced by Keith Forsey, one of the greatest record producers ever. Steve Stevens is one of the absolute best rock-hero guitar players. Rebel Yell is even better than White Wedding.
Billy was a bright spot in the '80s, morphing his punk persona from Gen X and turning himself into a pop punk superstar. So many good songs and videos. I sat on a couch next to Thommy Price (his drummer) while shooting the breeze with Joan Jett, who he was playing for at the time. I still can't believe it.
As others are saying, the next Billy Idol songs you should react to (IMHO) are: Rebel Yell, Eyes Without A Face, Flesh For Fantasy, Mony Mony and Cradle of Love.
Rebel Yell should be next. It’s a straight up banger! Then check out Eyes Without a Face, Dancing With Myself, Catch My Fall, Flesh for Fantasy, and To Be a Lover.
Billy Idol and Steve Stevens are in line with other great Rock "Twins" like Jagger/Richards or Tyler/Perry. And they are rocking strong to this day. Go see them live, you won´t be disappointed.
Oh yes, early music video memories with this one!! 😎 This was all rolled into one: punk, pop, and goth. If you haven't done "Rebel Yell" and "Dancing with myself" yet, they are MANDATORY!
This is one where you need to check out the original video to get the full experience. You need to see Billy with his sneer as he sings and all the attitude to match that style. He's still around and tours occasionally, he shows some tour dates in 2021 !
Billy Idol changed the whole damn game in 1982 when this album dropped. His punk/pop fusion style and absolutely unique vocals made even those of us who were decidedly NOT into the punk scene sit the f*** up and take notice! He had (and still HAS, dammit!) a voice that could croon with Bing Crosby or scream like a banshee at will. And he was blessed with having the most underrated lead guitarist in the business at the time, Steve Stevens. It was a magical combination. I think there were like 4 or 5 songs just off that first album that hit the Hot 100. Oh, and in addition to the many other songs suggested by previous commenters, I'll add "Hot in the City" from this same album .
You can’t do Billy Idol without doing Rebel Yell. He sings it from his toes:
That's the truth!
Add mony mony to that list
And you cannot do Rebel Yell without learning Billy's fist pump
Hell yeah so true
Eyes Without A Face after that.😘👍
If you need a killer guitar solo, check out Rebel Yell or Dancing With Myself. And as the former singer for Generation X, a foundational British punk band, this just took him to a whole new level.

Steve Stevens is an extremely underrated guitarist, you should check out the live Unplugged version of this tune. Billy Idol also did a killer cover of "LA Woman".
The entire VH-1 Storytellers concert is one of the best anyone will ever see with killer versions of "Mony Mony" & "L.A. Woman" to close the show.
A lot of people think of Billy Idols look and attitude, an image he was promoting. He was actually an extremely gifted vocalist.
Flesh For Fantasy is an awesome deeper cut of his.
The live version of this number is phenomenal.
Billy Idol is a Record producer’s creation, A Pop-punk answer to Punk Rock!
Sooooo 80s. I feel that this song is best viewed with the music video. There is so much visual content to support the song, not least of is Billy Idol himself raising his trademark fist in the air while sneering. Also, once you see the video, there's a spoof video with alternate lyrics that's hilarious.
Rebel Yell straight up baaaaangs! Killer groove, great guitar solo, vocals on point. A+ all day long.
"Eyes without a Face" by Billy is great too. Thanks for this reaction guys!!
Man.... this was definitely back in the MTV days aka the good ol’ days
I got a speeding ticket going 95 in a 65 on the highway in the middle of the night rocking out to this song. My favorite Billy Idol song.
Eyes Without A Face is such a living grace of a song
That's definitely got to be my top song of his!
That's the one I don't like or understand.
Eyes Without A Face is my favorite Billy Idol--GREAT guitar interlude in the middle. Also, love Hot in the City
Alex always says he's not a fan of 80s production but his own music totally sounds 80s. This tune was produced by Keith Forsey, one of the greatest record producers ever. Steve Stevens is one of the absolute best rock-hero guitar players. Rebel Yell is even better than White Wedding.
You’re right. “Feel the Love” totally sounds ‘80s. Alex, what up with that?
Why get personal.
Andy has an Idol crush. I did & still do.
Billy has a handfull of great hit songs. This one here is his best IMO. I love it. Very, very catchy tune.
Still hoping for the Rock'n Roll Animal version of "Sweet Jane".
Best guitar intro of ALL FREAKIN" TIME....! >>>> Steve Hunter / Dick Wagner
Better yet, just do the guitar intro and completely ignore Lou Reed.
Right there with you!
As others are saying, the next Billy Idol songs you should react to (IMHO) are:
Rebel Yell, Eyes Without A Face, Flesh For Fantasy, Mony Mony and Cradle of Love.
Best Billy Idol song
Rebel Yell should be next. It’s a straight up banger! Then check out Eyes Without a Face, Dancing With Myself, Catch My Fall, Flesh for Fantasy, and To Be a Lover.
Billy Idol and Steve Stevens are in line with other great Rock "Twins" like Jagger/Richards or Tyler/Perry. And they are rocking strong to this day. Go see them live, you won´t be disappointed.
Steve Steven's on guitar. Under rated. Billy was part of the Bromley contingent, a fan group around the Sex Pistols.
So was Siouxsie Sioux 🙂
Yep
OMG this is such a blast from my past. I was so into Billy Idol in college.
Oh yes, early music video memories with this one!! 😎
This was all rolled into one: punk, pop, and goth.
If you haven't done "Rebel Yell" and "Dancing with myself" yet, they are MANDATORY!
Rebel Yell! I agree 100%!! This rocked but Rebel Yell is a must!!✌🎸💗🎶
Welcome to the 80s! Billy's a fun and skilled performer. His songs are kind of like hip comic book or trashy novel type music. 👍
I would have never thought of that myself but you're spot on.
Billy Idol is one of a kind! He is a dark gothic, S & M, stiff drink of Rock & Roll! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🎸🎸🎸😎😎😎
This is one where you need to check out the original video to get the full experience. You need to see Billy with his sneer as he sings and all the attitude to match that style. He's still around and tours occasionally, he shows some tour dates in 2021 !
When i was a teenager my bedroom walls were covered in posters of Billy Idol, i was so in love with him lol.
Billy Idol should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!!
If we can squeeze in eighties songs. I would love How Soon is Now /by The Smiths.
Future reaction... Thumbs up for Genesis "Supper's Ready"!
Ease them in with "I know what I like in your wardrobe"
Has to be the Seconds Out version
My favourite Billy Idol song..
Definitely an A tier song - 40 years later and it still rocks.
Don't forget Crown of Creation by Jefferson Airplane.
Carry On!!
