Billy wrote this song about his real-life sister who got pregnant and (as was still common at the time) got married. A "shotgun" wedding, because the girl was pregnant and thus "had" to get married. He was lamenting that she felt like she had to get married and he didn't think it would last. Ironically, he's been married and divorced twice (I think), but his sister is still happily married.
Billy Idol (William Broad) was in a band at the end of the 70s called Gen X. White wedding was the feature tune on the second album. Idol later resurrected it. I saw Idol live twice. Steve Stevens is the real musician. I've seen and met Idol here in Las Vegas. He is approachable. He looks good for someone in his 60s.
No it doesn't 'little sister' is a girl who hangs out at a fraternity looking for a boyfriend. He's singing about her 'starting again' because she is not a virgin yet she is claiming she is by having a white (pure) wedding.

The real plot of this track is that the singer’s ex has just engaged in a “shotgun” wedding. And he is not pleased about it. In fact there is no actual indication that they have even broken up. So throughout the song, he is questioning her concerning this decision. He also presents the world as an unfair, dangerous place from which, via her marriage, she is basically trying to derive some good from. Or as Idol puts it, she is making an effort to "start again."
Sorry but Billy has said many times he wrote this after his little sister told him she was getting married! He was surprised cause he didn't even know she was dating someone!
@@nathanclarke2777 nice try. But you have a reading and listening problem. Idol stated: “I have a sister, Jane. She had got pregnant by her boyfriend and was going to get married. Everything was totally all right, but I thought to myself: ‘What if this had happened 30 years ago? There would’ve been a huge outcry.’ “I put a slight twist in the song to give it more of a dramatic edge - I couldn’t help it. I turned it round as if there was a crazed brother somewhere who was like Clint Eastwood and was coming back to murder whoever had defiled his sister. So it was kinda written around a real thing and then embellished. But you do that with songs.” He clearly states that it is based on a real thing but the rest is flipped on its head. The song is not literally about his sister
Not sure what picture you were referring to, but I saw him perform when he was fifty ... And we was buff as hell. Much beefier than in that video. He put on a pretty good show.
Most of Billy's songs were about drugs. White wedding and rebel yell were well-known drugs names in the hoods back in the day. When he sings "Its a nice day to start again" He means to get at it again (round 2 of drugs)
Believe me, not everything back then had to do with drugs. In fact, in the day, drugs as an explanation was usually only used as a joke, as if to say, "I can't understand what the lyrics meant, he must have been on drugs." Not that people believed that (most of the time). There were clearly songs about drugs that most people caught right away. Today I hear people saying we were on drugs all the time back then. They're confusing that with the late 60s early 70s when hallucinogenics were first being experimented with and taken to extremes. Then people were clearly talking about their experiences on drugs. It was new and there was an idea that drugs were a path to an alternate reality. By the time the 80s hit, I don't think many people were still thinking that way.
I love this song, never saw the video though. Damn. Idk.what was going on. But yeah it not about him married his sister 😒🤔. Just like everyone you call bro or lil bro ismt really your brother. The song is about The girl that's Billy likes getting married and he's jealous. Also please react to the rapper classified. Oh, my take is that he most certainly was talking about his own sister all right (or at least the character he's taking the role of). I can't remember exactly the song's explanation from Billy himself, but it was rather dry. Obviously it has more meaning than what he said. My take is way darker and I'm thinking it's much more perverse. I mean, we're not talking about a choir boy here. He is indeed talking about his little sister and I think the character that he's portraying in the song is one of two kids who grew up rough and had to share a lot of beds together (ah-hum), they're both bad kids now and his sister is all screwed up. She's been married before (hence the sarcastic white wedding) but she's so messed up that it didn't work. The brother has been away but hears about her next marriage and shows up crashing through the church window on his motorcycle to tell her she's just dreaming about leading a normal life with some normal guy. His sexual growling throughout is telling her, look, I'm the only one who's suited for you and I'm the only one you really crave. This dream you have is going to collapse and I'll be around when it does because we both know I'm the only one who can understand you. Him jamming the ring on her finger is an acknowledgement of how he knows his relationship with her is destructive, but so be it. Hey! The whole song just steams with sexuality and darkness. I'm just going where it leads me.
