This song was directed to Billy Idols real sister who married her boyfriend after she got pregnant. Billy Idol disagreed with their decision and wrote this song to express his feelings
Not really. Idol did have a sister who was getting married, but on an episode of VH1 Storytellers, he explained that his sister's wedding just gave him the idea for the song. In the song itself, "little sister" is simply slang for girlfriend. He is singing about a woman/girl he loves marrying someone else while he still loves her. This song was in the Wedding Singer, and later in the movie Idol shows up as himself to help Adam Sandler get together with Drew Barrymore. Funny stuff
It's a cool song with that driving beat, that bass riff, the guitar, usage of space, etc. And the band looked great in the video, they had the colourful look. Instant classic!😁
There used to be a custom in the US regarding a daughter who got pregnant out of wedlock. Dad would get down the shotgun, go find the baby's father, and force him to marry the daughter. It was called a shotgun wedding. I think Billy is playing the older brother who's taking the dad's role. I like to imagine that he's just come back from a stint in prison, ready to straighten out his wayward sister. Creepy song, in the best way possible.
@@kamuzu Years ago, Chris got pregnant while in High School and not married. She and her family up and moved in one night, nobody knew where? To “Start Again”.

Steve was one of the first guitar players I really got into. Not just his talent, which he has excessive amounts of, but his on stage persona, and his ability to get sounds out of the instrument that nobody else can.

Really should watch the "Official Video". You just have to see him perform. Billy was with the Punk band "Generation X", and carried some of that into his solo career.

Billy was one of the first "Punks" in an infamous band called London SS, but before the band was properly formed Billy and Tony James formed Generation X. I have often heard Billy referred to as "Punk". But his solo music with Steve Stevens sounds mainstream pop rock. "Dancing With Myself" might have a punk flavor, but all of his hits, of which there were many, are written for mass appeal, and commercially marketed to the extreme. The hair, the look, the leather, the lip, the young ladies slapping their asses (very hot) was all designed to sell albums....the very opposite of "Punk".
