Limit Orders, Market Orders, and Stops: Trading Tutorial

- We made this video to show everyone how to create a limit order on TradingView. More importantly, we walk you through the entire process of creating a trade on TradingView. Whether it's a limit order, market order, stop less or a take profit target, we make it easy for you to construct a trade start to finish.
The first step is to connect either a brokerage of your choice or to start Paper Trading on TradingView. It's easy. Follow the steps in this video or watch other videos on our profile to learn how.
When you're ready, open the Order Panel and dive right in. A Limit Order is essential so that you don't chase after price. Rather than placing a Market Order that executes for any price level, use limit orders to set a defined entry point. Then, set the levels where you want to take profit and/or exit a trade.

What is really missing is option to set “Move Stoploss to Breakeven” after x amount of pips. Also setting a trailing stop would be great!
For certain connected brokers you can set a trailing stop directly on TradingView! You can also manually move your stop loss to breakeven. We can send it to the team as well. Thank you for the feedback
What is really missing on TradingView, is a complete catalogue of trade management tools. No option to exit only a portion of the trade at certain levels, being one such example. Either exit the whole position, or none of it.......pretty poor.

Good day. Thank you for the tutorial. I have a question if you can help? Currently on my good trades I am having to 'Partial close' my position at take profit areas, but this means I have to be at the computer to perform the manual task. Is there a way to set "multiple take profits" so that my trade can take partial profits without me having to manually perform the partial close function?
I think this has been asked before in different ways without a reply. If this ability is not allowed, can you give some detail as to why ?
hi when we use paper trading and short and long position size calculation tools just we can right click and sent limit orders take profit and stop loss and limit orde rposition size everthing on the order thats helps a lot but we cant use same order on bingx or binance why we need to use that on real market too

Is a stop order really needed when you set a limit order with a stop loss with it?
Paper trading, when I place an order it does not appear on my chart, as in the video. Only down below in the bottom panel. Can't figure out why?

I try to set up a sell order on tradingview for a set price but it always seems to get filled straight away….even when price isn’t on that level…is it because the sell price is currently lower than the actual current price?
Is there any way to create multiple Take Profit targets (where contracts sell at escalating prices on long orders, for example) when setting up the trade, vs. having to do so manually after the initial trade has been placed?

@@fredrickcallahan4292 Nope. I don't think there's a way to do it other than manually scaling out as new orders. My guess is there are OCO orders in TVs future...

Can we use more than 1 Take profit?
How come when you click on Limit Order, it doesn't adjust the limit as price changes in real time? I like to join the current bid or ask via Limit.... But every time I hit Limit it says Ask +6 or Ask +3 or +5. My other brokers like TDAmeritrade, have it where the Limit keeps adjusting to the current Bid or Ask. I don't see anyway to turn it off in the settings from doing that.
I'm trying to try out putting orders on paper trade, but out of so many attempts, none of my "limit orders" had been filled. It places the order, but it doesn't fill it, it says the order is "working". What could be the problem? I tried different prices, just can't understand what's the problem.
Why there's no OCO order where you can set multiple take profits?
Hey, I have tried fxcm. Everytime i open long/short position in the chart using TV tool, it is not reflected in the trading panel. I have to manually copy the open price, stop loss and limit, so it is no different with using MT for execution. TV should improve this to make it easier by automatically copy the trading plan in the chart to the trading panel!
You should be able to set your levels with the long/short tool and then right click the mouse, then click on "limit order" and the fields should be filled in on the trade panel from your long/short tool.
? does the Trading "long/short tool" actually place the trade? do you always have to use the trading panel to define your entry and exits or can you simply setup the trading tool and place a long or short trade visually and allow it to execute? thank you
that's currently available but execution is still slow. you have to manually put your risk % and execute on the panel. it doesn not save your preset risk parameters etc. TV definitely needs a better solution for order execution especially for day traders
i have 4 options up there market, limit, stop and stop-limit. whats that? :/ and what a also dont understand is that my trades are not working at my broker (IBKR) although im doing the exact same thing with the same balance ($500) as on my paper account.

How do I undock the Buy/Sell buttons to move them around on the chart? Not the order panel, the buttons. I would like the option to have the buttons in front of me instead of in the upper left corner. Thank you!
Good question! You can adjust your buy and sell buttons by opening up the settings menu to hide or show them. You can also buy or sell by right clicking anywhere on the chart!
Hello, I bought TV Premium Subscription. Question : If I take a carry forward trade order in the day time which gets executed and before day closing if I find that it is in my favour, how do I place a carry forward stop loss i.e. if I place opposite carry forward order as a stop loss instead of Intraday, will that opposite direction (stop loss) order be still there next day and next day if price favours me which I can then move in direction of my favour to prevent loss of capital...something like an order which act as a stop loss in futures Ct. till I want it to be there, no matter how many number of days or weeks I want to hold it for.. please advise.

Check out the Public Library in the Indicators and Strategies menu. Click / on your keyboard to open this while looking at your chart. There are a lot of cool scripts like this that have been coded by traders and investors around the world.
will the Take profit and stop-loss order be taken a market orders or limit orders?
Just had a really confusing moment on TV paper-trading. Set 3 trades on BUY on a good moving Trend. Should have been 3 successful trades with nice Profits but 2 of the orders didnt execute. After a bit of research my stop loss was set well, my take profit was set well, but the buy limit was sitting in the middle somewhere and apparantly had not been triggered when the Price reached profit targets. I still dont get how IF the BUY LIMIT was passed on the way up to the TAKE PROFIT level that the trade/order wasn't executed? Can someone here tell me what i failed to understand. Thanks in advance.
Spread or lack of real-time data on the symbol you were attempting to trade? Did you ever figure that out?

Can we take half our position off and let the rest run? How many take profits and let run can we line up? If the first trade stops out before the first take profit are the remaining automatically closed if we are asleep in our bed?
How to split the stop at different levels. Say half at 1% and the other half at 2% loss for example.

Not sure if this same window appears even today. I am in India and I don't know if for some reason Order Window has been modified for Indian Traders or due to local brokers etc.

Such orders are called stop-limit orders. I don't know if Tradingview supports them.
It would be nice to buy not just by amount of stock also by quantity of money.

You didn't explain take profit and stop loss on sell limit, or how you can sell something you don't own by having it being lended to you.

Thanks for the tutorial, but you havent really explained the Buy "Stop", which is the opposite of Buy "Limit", for the Long orders.
There is also a Sell "Stop" and a Sell "Limit" orders for the Short orders.
how do u change the numbers on the "buy or sell" instead of seeing all those" o.oo234" to where its just a simple " 200.43".. its hard to understand with the "0.00576.."
