Thanks for explaining. Because until now i could not understand what a buy stop was and now its clear that its a stop hold if one was correctly technical with their language. Sell stop was easier to intuitively grasp to stop out and now the same to "stop out" at a defined high point.

why no one asking a question what makes the difference when you put buy order what makes the different if you or on above or below the current price. if we are above current price and market goes down buy stop will not happen? please explain
so lately ive notice something weird whenever i place a limit order with merill edge i always get stuck. if i place to sell limit it have a hard time reaching my sell price if i place to buy limit it start gliding below like it want me to be stuck on my buy i thought this was a coincidence UNTIL i stop using the limit order and started using alart then buying at market price when it reach the price i want my point is i feel people are seeing my limit order BUY or SELL and keep the price from moving to my benefit because it doesnt happen when i do not place a limit SOOO CAN PEOPLE SEE YOUR LIMIT ORDERS?

THANK YOU! Market execution? No problem. Limit orders? Always made sense. BUT I could NEVER understand how STOPS worked... until now! Such a simple and easy explanation - maybe the best I've ever seen. Question for you... If you are day trading and assuming you're completely focused on the market for the time being, AND you're not sure a which direction a consolidating market is going to go... Couldn't you place BOTH a buy stop AND a sell stop, then just delete the other order if one executes. Again, only in situations where you are 50/50 on which direction the market will go and only when you're 100% focused, but if those apply is this a good strategy?
i use sell stop an crash 1000 index but when it spikes it pushes the order to where ever the candle ends then starts an up trend which leaves me in the negatives. I'm really confused as there ain't no information on why it does this.
