  • From Evan in Pittsburgh comes this early 1960's oddity. A fair number of these were installed in Pittsburgh (usually retrofitted with inlets in the floor); I have never seen any here in Chicago. Made in Los Angeles, California, these units featured a single motor (either 5.7" two stage or 7.2" two stage), cloth filter bag, and dual-coil latching relay with two push buttons on each inlet (chrome round door, made by Beam). This example was installed with black ABS central vacuum pipe and two inlets plus the one on the unit. Replacing one of these units necessarily involves replacing the inlets, as a modern system requires a maintained contact (provided by the band on the hose cuff OR the switch on the hose handle).

I always like watching your channel for weirdly whimsical wonders of the central vacuum world. This one looks unassuming like a small washing machine or mini fridge or chest freezer.

That's a really interesting chest freezer....err I mean central vac! Never seen anything remotely like it where I'm from, seems like an interesting and fairly well designed machine. Thanks for sharing as always!

They also had parties, like Tupperware. My Grandma got hers that way.

Has the same metallic brown enamel finish as my maternal grandmother’s early 1960’s Tappan brand built in gas burners and matching built in kitchen cabinet oven. Looks like the aesthetic styling of a Frigidaire or Hotpoint refrigerator or a washer/dryer set by them from the same early 1960’s.

Nice kind of reminds of the floor furnace I had in my other home. If it sits directly under the floor.
