As someone who used to frequent the Koei Warriors forums back when it was pretty active, I learned to never, ever, EVER ask "why don't they just add the Korean campaign in the SW game?" Ohhhhhhh boy was I educated and then some xD
Koei adding the Imjin Wars in Samurai Warriors is about as likely as them making a Musou game about the Crusades Wars between Muslims and Christians. NEVER! Because that would be very sensitive.
4:43 recently a game i played called great conqueror shogun one of the campaign is an upcoming korean invasion but the developer is easytech who's a chinese company but i guess it's still count
2:00 Additional example is Seven Knights from Netmarble, Korea. Which has Samurai element, but in order to be accepted in Global including Korea. Name of those Samurai must be altered such as Ace, Teo, etc
Koei should just release steam with modding support and let the modding community take care of the rest. Total War Shogun 2 still get modding communities fire up especailly with the new mod expand the map to involve playable faction from Korea and China Ming. They even make customized maps too.
My biggest quesiton to people who want this What would this bring to the SW series ? It has a completely different focus and it dosent fit in to the story in any way. This just feels to me yet another situation where "fans" ask Koei to put anything in the game without even thinking. Would not be surprised if there is someone out there asking for Godzila to appear in the next SW game.
Btw, Manga/Anime tidbit: A lot of the reason why Hideyoshi's campaign of Korea is not in SW, is also the same reason why there was a lot of controversy around one arc in Osama Ranking (Houma-Gyakuza Arc) because of the particular imagery that they use, and how it correlation to Japanese propoganda of Korea. So there is that.
As a fan of Sengoku Era and Sengoku BASARA, I understand why this isn't just plausible. Man, Hideyoshi is probably my second or third favorite Sengoku samurai (below Yukimura, tied sometimes with Nobunaga), and even I think it's a huge shame what Hideyoshi did to Korea and wish he thought it better. Hadn't he invaded Korea, probably Sekigahara and Tokugawa shogunate would have never occured. Not only Koei, every company of whatever they do (videogames, anime, etc) doesn't dare to do that. Take the fiction works depict Hideyoshi in a negative light: Sengoku BASARA, Nioh 2, Onimusha 4... Even if Hideyoshi is demonic, even if they say "Hideyoshi now is going to the exterior trying to conquer it", they even don't mention Korea or Imjin War at all, let alone adding it as a playable feature.
This is a very heavy subject that should not be taken lightly. Reading through what happened in the Imjin War is tough because Hideyoshi's war crimes were heinous in Korea. Not to mention how Hideaki Kobayakawa has behaved in the aforementioned war. It is very clear that Koei should stray away from such subject and tbh that war is outside the scope of the Sengoku period because Korea is not in Japan obviously nor is it a "warring state"
I mean, you know this idea wouldn't happen when even the humongous Basara's Hideyoshi who's definitely more than capable to beat Korea to a pulp in theory, wouldn't go there at all.
I think they just have done a Korean Campaign,Kazakhstan Khanite or the Bengali Sultanate of Dynasty Warriors or Samurai Warriors of the history of Korea
Eh, the Imjin war being a sensitive topic is not a good enough reason not to do it. We have countless RTS and FPS games where we get to play as Nazis. Adding one or two missions in Korea could showcase how angry and deranged Hideyoshi became during his last few years. It could even serve as a national apology for the wars, or at least admission that the Imjin war and also later occupations were conducted in a dispicable manner by the Japanese, maybe even enable Koei-Tecmo to showcase the genius of admiral Yi Sun-sin by having him be a playable character. The more likely reason for Japanese media generally avoiding the topic of the Imjin war is shame. Not just for the war, but how the "honorable" Samurai conducted it. Pretending it didn't happen is never a good way forward.
None of those games are being made by Germany though, over there you can get arrested for even mildly acting like one, it's not the same situation and even then, like with cod, that game was censored to shit or just not released at all
I would still put it in the games but put like a trigger warning or a disclaimer and have it be an optional mission so it's not like you are forced to play this campaign and hey that's just me to be honest freedom of speech and all. Although if did add something to the dynasty warriors games they should add Himeko from Warriors Orochi because according to actual history Wei did contact early Japan.
No amount of "freedom of speech" is going to save you from the repercussions of inciting a political scandal that damages already fragile relations with a neighbouring state.
This is not about trigger warning or any of those cancel culture bullshit. As I said in the video, no Japanese company would ever make a game about the Korean Campaign, where you have to kill multiple Koreans, because it would ruin the diplomatic relations between Japan and South Korea. It would also cause a nation-wide issue in Japan. Companies can get shutdown, just because of this. You need to understand this topic from multiple angles, instead of just the POV of an armchair gamer.
@@Profar26 That's fair and all, but I fail to see how a niche video game from a relatively small studio is going to cause all that. I don't mean to be obtuse, but at the end of the day it's just a video game, not some kind of policy or law.
I get why a business wouldn't wanna wade into it. After all, artistic inspiration isn't really the sole driving force behind Koei. Least the war's been mentioned before in SW games. But as a consumer, I give 0 shits what offends Korea. A ferry's worth of children died b/c they were worried about offending someone. In practice, Koei may never do it. In principle, they should be free to try it. The consumers will always decide what belongs and what doesn't.
You missed the part where I said Japan and South Korea had a rough history with one another. It took them decades to establish a good relationship. Koei is not going to shoot themselves in the foot, by causing a disturbance between Japan and South Korea, all because of "principle" to put the Imjin War in Samurai Warriors. It's not just about offending Koreans, the repercussions can be serious for Koei and Japan themselves. This is not some cancel culture bullshit. You said as a consumer, you give 0 shits about offending Koreans. Guess what? Koreans are consumers too, and they give 0 shits what you think on what offends them. The same can be said about Koei.
