I was a large printing press operator. Used aluminum plates to print image. As the industry fell. I started painting houses. Just brought the knowledge and process from printing to painting houses. One thing that has really help me save time and money was using old printing plates to be used as shields. They are .0006 thin. Perfect for sliding under base boards. Or between deck and house. Just slide them in slightly open spaces. Tape to hold. Save me so much money on masking paper and tape. And they can be cleaned and reused. I spay them with TRI-FLO first. So the paint doesn’t stick. Leave in sun. And the paint peels off. I get them from local printing companies when the plates are missed printed of images.
We literally just finished staining 42 buildings w/ 3 decks on each one. What a project that was. Had to use sponges and brushes because spraying it would’ve raised a lot of complaints w/ the residents in downtown. Great video man!

Hi kris I am revisiting this video after more than a year. I really enjoyed it thanks. I am a painter of 8 years experience. I have an array of skills from different projects etc. However I haven't undertaken much decking, and watching you has been valuable. Not just in this occasion, but on several. To this day I still use some of the skills you have shown in your video.
I can spray paint but my knowledge is not vast in that category.
As a personal request, please could you make a video dedicated to different sprayers? I would like you to do a breakdown of the different sprayers you personally use for your project, the different applications, and use cases ie pros and cons.
Also to describe in detail as much as possible how each one works e.g. the components and there functions.

Why didn't you have to wipe this down? In your other video, you normally wipe down after you apply?

Love your videos ok here’s my ? Is it a bad idea to use a latex main sprayer with oil base stains should I purchase separate hose gun and suction tube . Just wondering if the oil stain is going to melt the old latex in the pump ?

I couldn't find this product on there website. They have something called summit solid color stain, is it the same? One coat or two on new deck? ( pressure treated wood left unfinished for over 3 years). I feel for you; Romondo moving in slow motion. I really like that extension pole brush!
What paint/material were you working with Chris? Solid based stain, oil based paint, or latex based?
Just curious if you checked your filters in your pump and Gun. Ran into the same problem a few weeks ago kept on clogging and spitting add to change over to a fine finish filter in my gun after I strain to paint twice and clean the pump out twice. I scratch my head over and over never had that issue before. First time for everything.
Have you used a hand pump sprayer, and if so, how does it work with oil penetrating semi- transparent stain?

Question about whip hose length. Where can I order a 25ft whip hose? I have a Graco 395 and for alot of my home jobs, it would make loading up and cleaning out much easier. I was told by Graco that I couldn't use a 25ft hose cause it would cause pulsations in my spray pattern, so can you explain a little more about hose lengths and what types would work etc? Thanks
I’m in the process of staining my fence using graco project painter sprayer. I’m using a FFLP 412 with racx. I’m using a semi transparent behr water base stain.
It seems not enough product is coming out. I tried a normal 512 tip and it clogged. Should I go up to a 416 FFLP?
In order to get good coverage I do a light coat then brush and then a heavier coat and back brush. To get decent coverage I have to go pretty slow with the sprayer board by board like 6” away. Any advice?

Pro tip do not take the chance cover everything,all it takes is a gust of wind .Another tip drops everywhere..gets on the bottom of shoes and tracks on concrete ..Job can be great and home owner is more upset about overspray and tracks.

I have the same sprayer but haven't ever used stain in the sprayer. What is the process for cleaning out the sprayer after you are done spraying?
Well if it’s oil. You will really need to run good paint thinner through Line. Lots of it. UNTILL there is no color left. Make sure you clean Gun and filter in gun. Water base stains do as you would do with any water base paint. But still clean gun and filter. Especially the filter in gun. There is always paint left in it. Best to take apart gun and clean thoroughly. I for got to clean gun after a job. And by the time I did my next job. Gun was clogged with last job paint. Had to use a guitar string to clean it out. But was able to get job started and finished.

Can I stain a fence with a roller connected to a airless sprayer? I do not want to use a sprayer that will have the stain floating in the air attaching to other people's property.
Yes you can
They want to use behr oil-latex formula. I want to use a roller on a airless sprayer with roller attachment. Im doing 45 foot per panel and its at least 30 panels. Wowsers. Power washing took me 4 days. Can you recommend a roller nap please. Im doing my 1st stain for a Gated subdivision.
