    The access to the new design is much better than my '16, and I like the idea of synthetic if your using it A LOT, but unless that line is real UV stabilized I don't think I'd leave it on the fairlead all the time. Weight savings is kinda, meh considering the overall weight of a PW.

    • @mark7067
      @mark7067 5 лет назад +14

      You'll still need a remote controller in case you need to operate it outside of the vehicle. Besides that, even if you're in the cab, it's nice being able to move around with the controls, like needing to lean out of the cab or passing the controls around. Reaching for switches makes things difficult.

      The high-end WARNs have (wireless/cordless) remote controls: that solves the problem. All RAM would have had to do was to build a nice place in the dashboard to attach it.

    The wireless winch remote is what I use for my Power Wagon. Works awesome! Warn has a brand new wireless receiver hub that just came out in the last week that, if PW compatible, should be sweet and cheaper than the one I bought. The new one allows for winching remotely via your smart phone.

    Great video. FYI synthetic does not just drop. Still potential energy in there. You should have some bags or blankets on that line for safety. Especially with everyone standing nearby and that guy in black directly in the danger zone.

    • @jasonstroman4550
      @jasonstroman4550 5 лет назад +3

      Agreed that the synthetic has less potential energy compared to steel. That’s obvious. But it does not just drop. It still has some snap and I would not want to get hit with it if it snaps. And if that anchor point let go there would be a hook coming back with that snap. Steel or synthetic, play it safe, stay out of the way, out of the danger area and approach every recovery with caution. Don’t assume just because it’s synthetic and less energy does not mean someone won’t get hurt if the recovery goes sideways.

    Nice truck. Was ready to pull the plug on a new 1500 but no lockers available across the line. Ford offers rear lockers for pretty much every trim level. My main gripe with FCA trucks and Jeeps. Offer lockers at lower trim levels! And yes I know this is a 2500, general complaint. Would love a Power Wagon if it had shorter options or a Ram Rebel with the same locker options. FCA is taking a page from Ford and steering you to limited options for off road capability.

    • @joshtavenner3073
      @joshtavenner3073 5 лет назад +2

      NotaBRZ NotaMiata The Ram has a rear locker available across the line for 2019 in the 1500. It’s standard in the Rebel. On non-Rebel’s you can get the 4x4 Off Road package which gives you the locker and a few other things. If you don’t get that you can still add the locking rear as a stand alone option.
      Wouldn’t be surprised if it was similarly available on the 2500s.

    +TFLoffroad To what extent is the synthetic rope UV stable? Does the synthetic cable have a recommended replacement interval and if so, how does that compare to a steel cable?

    • @regsparkes6507
      @regsparkes6507 5 лет назад

      From what I've been told by a rope supplier to the fishing industry, synthetic ropes are, for the most part, UV proof and will not whip, if broken. These are two of the most important
      features for this type of rope.
      Nylon or poly. rope are the most dangerous because of the lack of those benefits.

    • @donleamon8653
      @donleamon8653 5 лет назад +1

      Too my knowledge (and to be fair I haven't looked at this Warn offering) it really isn't. If you replace that hook with a Factor55 Prohook and their guard, you can effectively shade the rope and be ok. It won't last as long as steel, but if you winch often, it is worth it. I've thought about replacing the steel on my '16, but if you only use it a couple times a year, and take care of it, it could outlast the truck. I've got a '77 Blazer with a Hickey Sidewinder on it with the original steel, still serviceable.

    • @donleamon8653
      @donleamon8653 5 лет назад

      @@regsparkes6507 - Whenever I've done recovery in the past, I've had gloves on and I have a pair just for that in my recovery bag. I also have synthetic on the Warn on my Land Cruiser. And I've operated winches since the mid 1970's, so I understand the difference. I agree that synth is safer and easier to handle especially if you use it a lot. And it is field serviceable if you have the needles and knowledge which is also a plus. BUT I'm not too sure that what is exposed to the sun after 5+ years is going to be happy. I could be wrong if this is a new blend. But what Warn spooled on my 9.5 in the LC warned against extended UV exposure.

We are one of the best at making videos when it come to the truck market, but...…..it's not past us to make a video to promote a product. This is honestly how is see these type videos. Your truck nuts book was great, MPG test is solid, IKE gauntlet gives the best honest real world review of what truck people can honestly ask for. You guys do a good job reviews on all the TFL platforms over then the videos were you shill to the manufacturer. Simply put you guys are above stopping on a hill you obviously didn't need to use a winch on. Really you had to let off the throttle to stop climbing up a hill to "show us" how a winch worked. There is a slight possibility, according to TFL, that Ford may be resurrecting the Highboy F250 to compete with the mighty Power Wagon, along with a new 7.3L pushrod gas V8. Ford has been keeping details of the 2020 Super duty heavily under wraps. We are supposed to find out tomorrow on some of the details. I’m really hoping it’s true cuz competition is what pushes manufacturers to improve their product and bring markup prices down. As of now, the Raptor is in a league of its own. It needs a direct competitor!

    What’s the difference between the power wagon and the rebel?

    • @philharris4504
      @philharris4504 5 лет назад +3

      Power Wagon has 6.4L Hemi, Rebel has 5.7L. PW has front and rear lockers, Rebel has rear locker only. PW is built on a HD, 3/4 ton chassis, Rebel is half ton. PW has electronic sway bar disconnect, Rebel does not. PW comes from the factory with a winch, Rebel doesnt.

    • @NemeanLion-
      @NemeanLion- 5 лет назад

      Thanks for the details, but are they designed for different markets? The trucks seem so similar. Is the rebel a sort of baja/raptor clone and the power wagon a more industrial workhorse?

    • @philharris4504
      @philharris4504 5 лет назад +1

      @@NemeanLion- Power Wagon is built primarily for hard core off road. It will just about go anywhere a Jeep Rubicon will go....IF it will fit. That's its weakness. It's a big girl. The Rebel is more for the weekend warrior type of person. Very capable, just not quite as hard core capable as a Wagon. Neither should be compared to a Raptor. That's apples and oranges. Raptor is more of a high speed baja style setup. Fine vehicle, just built for a different purpose.

      C Steele fair eough. I've had both on atvs, jeeps, and trucks. My personal preference is synthetic for safety and ease of use and repair. I've switched over 3 of my 4 Warns after trying synthetic line. The 4th came with it and caused me to change my mind about steel.

    Great video as usual.
    However...some could argue that the debate is still ongoing regarding steel vs. synthetic.
    I for one point to SpaceX...
    ...and their use of (return to) stainless steel instead of some new-age polymer or synthetic.
    I run a 10klb SuperWinch with 3/8ths inch steel cable. I wear simple, insulated gloves when handling said cable.
    At no time am I concerned about how much 'particulate' my steel cable encounters.
    At no time am I concerned with how many pulls at what tension stress my steel cable has experienced.
    In short, following a brief visual inspection of said steel cable, at no time am I concerned with an "MTBF" (meantime between failure). (a little nerdy IT offroader humor)
