    Question: if you were taking a flight and the only two options were an A350 or a 787, which would you choose? I’m a pretty big fan of both aircraft types, but (spoiler alert): I think I prefer the Airbus A350 a little more.
    This A350 vs 787 comparison video takes a look at a few key categories from the passenger perspective. Which aircraft has the better toilets? Which one has the better windows? The answers to those questions (and more) are within.

    I've flown both. Slight advantage to the A350 because the width of seats are slightly bigger. I've been able to sleep well on both. I like the gimmick of the window dimmer on the 787. I think the A350 is slightly quieter. I noticed it on takeoff especially. But really both are great to fly in.

      Good explanation! But you forgot one thing: A350 also have slightly higher humidity than even the B787, so you arrive even more rested. I've measured inflight noises and A350 is quieter than B787 as well.

      @@_w_w_ Whatever. And how can you support your evidence that one has more humidity than the other?
      Already in the video he pretends to say that the over head bin are bigger.
      It’s the first time I’ve heard that..🙄
      For noise, you have to compare while sitting in the same place.
      Anyway the 787 has outsells the A350 since years and is the market favorite ...

      @@ndlben7129 You don't follow the industry or don't fly a lot. A350 has higher humidity...by ~5% due to A350 fuselage is designed to withstand higher pressure than B787. It's published data silly! As far as noise is concerned, I also measured the cabin noise at 14 different phases of the flight, sitting at nearly identical location. Absolutely nothing to do with it because most of the time (until the COVID-19 crisis) the 787 won orders against the A350. In other words the A350 has stagnated for years and it has absolutely nothing to do especially since the A350 has inherited orders from the A350 MK1 since 2005. It's just that the 787 is well suited for the market whose size (787) is criticized as being smaller in terms of cabin compared to the A350. But in life you cannot have everything.
      The 787 Dreamliner is a long haul size never made before while the A350 just takes the triple 7 market (777)

    I have flown the both 787 and A350 aswell as A380 and 747, All of these aircraft, The A380 wins for me because it had the most seat width and the quietest I ever flown on. Even though the A350 says it’s quieter, the A380 is actually 8 decibels quieter than the A350. That’s why it always wins for me.

      @@ndlben7129 Whatever?! I practically live in the air. Due to 787's wind design, there is a much wider/longer attach points to the fuselage and therefore, a lot of seats are "over-wing" seats. In flight, the wing does flex and curve up, and blocks view when you look out. You clearly don't fly enough to even notice something this basic/common.

Among A350, A330 Neo and B787, i will choose A330 Neo by miles.....2-4-2 economy class seating ararngement in A330 Neo makes so much diffrent....the best for my comfort for long haul flight in economy

  • @NewYorkAviation
    @NewYorkAviation 3 года назад +51

    The 787 is only popular because of how new it is and all of the hype the media gives it. But, once it gets to 15+ years it won't be new, hot, and modern and instead, the only thing that people will recognize it for will be its narrow seats, low ceiling, and annoying old generation windows. The A350 is a really nice aircraft and it will definitely still be a pleasant plane to fly on after the 10-year mark (just like the A380) because of its wider cabin and taller ceiling mainly.

      But the 787 is already over 10 years old and has really high ceilings? I do agree with the narrow seats though (although Japan Airlines uses a much more comfortable 2-4-2 configuration). If the windows weren't locked by the crew of the 787, I'd probably prefer them given their huge size, but overall if I had the choice to fly either then I would choose the A350.

      Agreed! Having been on a lot of B787, they DO NOT age well. The new generation of lightweight material used by Boeing just don't age well. Both United and ANA 787 of less than 5 yo have a lot of broken things and looked worse than a 757/767.

    • @Gnaw85
      @Gnaw85 3 года назад +7

      I agree. Having flown on 787 I can only discribe it as the "nightmareliner" because of the discomfort from the narrow seats. I can't even imagine what it would be like to be unfortunate enough to fly on one of those 777s that has been re-configured to 3-4-3 seating. Boeing has truly lost it in recent years.

Your %100 right though if there's a choice between a particular airline (let's say) Thai airways with an A350 vrs. ANA 787 it's ANA every time. Why? Well because it's the service , food, drinks, and overall way an airline can make you feel that would make me chose them over just my favorite plane type. The 787's are really great airplanes too but for me well just see above. lol. A350 hands down in economy due to seat width (exception - JAL's 2-4-2 787). The 787's Window's are a gimmick, I think the dimming is worse than a shade in direct sunlight. In business or first I'd imagine it depends much more on carrier.

  • @LowBudgetKiwi
    @LowBudgetKiwi 3 года назад +3

    Disagree about the 787 windows. I love them. Yes ok Boeing should never have given lockout to the crew, but apart from that they are great. I book a window seat to see out the window, its kind of the point, and regardless of dimmer settings on the 787 I can see out the window, as opposed to the outdated window shade on the A350. Also when it comes to opening the shades for landing, the 787 gradually increases the light level as opposed to whipping up the shades and getting greeted with the solar death ray instantly rendering you blind for the next 30 seconds.

    Definitely the 787. I've flown on each both directions from JFK-MAD and I've found that the 787 is a little bit quieter and fares better during turbulence in-flight than the '350, mainly due to (I believe) the rear engine cowling having that wavy flare. But to be honest, the sound of the GE's on the 787 during takeoff takes the win.

      in my experience it was the opposite. the 787 is considerably noisier during cruise. Especially wind noises from the outside and hydraulic noises. While take off the A350 is louder. When it comes to smoothness both are more o less the same. The A350 appears a bit more solid, while the 787 handles turbulences due to its extreme wingflex quite good. The dimmalbe windows are a nightmare. Cabin crew can make a daytime flight to a nightflight arbitrarily. What is the purpose of such huge windows when they are dimmed completly dark during 90 percent of the flight. Even during night flights. No possibility to see orange citylights from the sky and the stars above.

      It sounds clunky because, underneath the pimp interior trim, is a shoddily made piece of garbage made by literal crackheads. They are all slowly coming unglued. Boeing had to recall a bunch of them but it's not going to be enough. Just a matter of time until they start falling out of the sky, probably on one of those transpacific Qantas flights. Good luck.

Give a little power to any employee of any company or government office and you know that their proclivity to meanness will come shining through. I have actually screamed along with the RUclipsr filming a great shot out of the window when...BAM...the window slowly darkens and the "shot of the flight" is ruined. UGH. 😂. @@ndlben7129 It is a hit and miss! Again, you don't fly a lot... When you are on the plane and spend more time in the air than on the ground, you will realize how true this statement is. United 787 looks like crap... JAL's 787 fares much better. Because 787 had a weight issue that the design did not achieve original planned operating efficiencies, Boeing told the airline to cut weight. Therefore, really really thin and lightweight seats were created... and 9th seat were inserted in economy to reach the promised per passenger operating efficiency claim. For crappy airlines that added 9th seat and used super thin seats, the experience is terrible. For the top performing airlines, like JAL, they kept the 8-abreast economy for their long haul fleet, and used high quality seats. Therefore, you really do get a very different experience. A350, on the other hand, is very very similarly configured... airline after airline, the experience is similar and very consistent, they all use 9-abreast economy and because of less weight restrictoin, they use higher quality seats, allowing for better passenger comfort.

    Haven’t flown the A350 yet but my Boeing experience with United was amazing comfortable seats I liked the dim option it was awesome not to have a seat in front having the light shining straight through while you’re trying to sleep. One thing that no one takes into consideration are landings I’ve flown on A220 A321 A320 via JetBlue and every landing was a hard one. Versus the Boeing aircraft never had an issue always smooth even in rough weather via AA and United.

  • @campagnollo

    I have to rage about the people who hate the 787 windows being controlled by the crew. I was on LOT Polish 787 and the crew did dim the windows, but still gave control to the passengers. That was a mistake. A very few passengers undimmed their windows which created an effect like a pinhole camera and lit up the entire cabin. So I’m for crew controlled windows or lock out the settings up to 50% dimmed.

  • @dmatt3425
    @dmatt3425 3 года назад

    I generally agree, but you absolutely have to consider the airline's choice of cabin layout. The same aircraft can be a totally different experience based on that. You have to research the seat pitch and width ahead of time. Also, the JAL 787 infotainment box in the foot resting area was murder from SAN to NRT. I love a window seat, but that has me looking at the middle-aisle seats to save some leg discomfort. No, actual leg pain.

    I've never flown in an A350 but if I had a choice I would avoid 787, or for that matter, any new Boeing products at all cost. The seats in the economy for 787 are so narrow you'd constantly rub shoulder with whoever sits next to you.. While the dimming windows and curving wings are nice gimmicks, the discomfort from the narrow seats truly makes it a nightmareliner, especially on an international flight that takes over 10 hours.

    A350 pure and simple. As a proud American and frequent long-haul flyer, I have to swallow my pride. B787 is a good plane compare to the other aging Boeing fleet, but A350 is technically more advanced in every regard. In a practical manner, A350 is also more comfortable for passengers. Having flown both of them frequently, I would definite not fly in Economy on a B787, pure and simple.

      @@BubuchgaGaming Are you joking?!?! A350 use more composite material, higher cabin humidity, lower noise level, more fuel efficient than B787. It has better bin design, better mood light design... I am an American, but objectively speaking, Airbus put in a lot of efforts to one up on Boeing and it shows... A350 left the factory hitting operating economics but B787 didn't. Much of the B787 savings comes from using super lightweight material in the cabin that airlines were forced to use earlier. Check out the first batch of B787 that are in the sky and you will see how badly they've aged.
