    Thank you Adam for this insight. I'm currently working as a coordinator/digitalization leader at a major construction firm in the nordics and have always been curious/fascinated by data and how we can use it to be more efficient in our work. As I am though, not getting any younger and have not spent my youth learning how to code (although I actually wish I had) I still somehow feel an urge to learn new things. Happened to stumble upon your channel and I feel it sparked a new joy in continuing my pursuit into SQL territories. Thanks once again, subscribed and looking forward to the content! Also, southern France does not sound so bad this time of year! ;) Take care!

    As a BI report developer, approx 5 years experience I really like this video because you are telling people on how BI projects work irl. The most important thing I have learned is to never "trust" my client on just the words or visions they say. I need to test it inside the organisation. I always suggest my clients that I can be hired for 1-2 short PoCs before the "real" project even is possible. I feel they are less stresses with PoC budgeting. I try to avoid projects where they just want me to say "yes I can build this" before checking if it is even possible...for my good nights sleep😆 Starting on a small scale and lowering expectations can be very very helpful. And also important to be a good listener when it comes to super users.

    • @LearnBI
      @LearnBI  Год назад +1

      Thanks for sharing, much appreciated. PoCs can be very useful in some cases, you’re right. But even they can’t guarantee a fully successful project afterwards. The PoCs I tend to recommend would be to test data pipelines, dashboard design and interactivity.

    I’m a BI enthusiast! Live from Cameroon 🇨🇲, I’m a 19 y/o student on the way to start my master degree. I have a bachelor in marketing management and I was wondering if doing a master in Management Information System(MIS) would be great to become a competitive BI analyst. As a professional what would you recommend?
    My alternative is to continue with a master in Marketing and Strategy

    • @LearnBI
      @LearnBI  3 года назад +1

      Hi Etonde, I'm not sure I'm comfortable saying which education path you should take. Everyone's path is different and mine was not typical. MIS and data science are both good options.

    So I’ve been an investigative analyst for a few years, and have a background in data analytics. I’m thinking of getting a degree in data science and really want to do BI consulting. Where should I start?

    • @LearnBI
      @LearnBI  3 года назад +1

      Data science would be a great qualification to have. BI and data science are not the same thing (even though there is a lot of crossover). I think at first you should probably aim to work in BI as an analyst before considering consulting.

    thank you so much for this video! I'm curious to know how do you handle the lack of collaboration when comes to ask for the data, people don't give you their data without a little of concern right?

    • @LearnBI
      @LearnBI  2 года назад +1

      Usually, if the client is hiring you to work with their data to build their dashboards, they understand that they’re going to need to give you access to their data. If there is a problem it’s usually because the business unit you’re working with needs permission from the IT department or CDO to make the data accessible to a BI tool. In this case it’s an internal matter which means there’s not much you can do about it. Find the case study video on my channel “Saving $2m with a dashboard”. It explains how we found a way around the kind of situation you’re talking about.
