I love how you break everything down in a simple but very detailed way. Would love to attend one of your live classes. Keep posting, and we'll keep watchin
I just want to say thank you. A lot of videos in general seem to be the same and I will take a little here and there from each one. But the way you mentioned the uses for the .5 and 1.5 were an ah-ha moment for me. As a guy who operates on systems, this has really been a game changer and I couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you.
Sean, it’s been a HUGE help. Now all of my fades have consistency. Now, between the open clipper/no guard and trimmer, where is your lever at on the clipper/no guard for the blend between the two? Seriously. This has helped me tremendously, and I can’t thank you enough.
I second this video. Half guard will save you time and make it so much easier. It becomes near impossible when your cutting yourself. And if you do your barber friends will notice right away.
I have been using Speedo guards for almost a decade and idk if they are a little shorter than standard Wahl guards but I have always skipped the half guard and never had a problem but as soon as I start using Wahl guards the half guard is crucial
Not a bad technique but clipper over comb somewhat only gives one result. I use it in certain scenarios but have other techniques depending on the haircut
The note that I’m taking away with me from this video is that the .5 and 1.5 guards are meant to blend and not meant to create their own section. I’ve been in school for three months. I been trying to use those guards as their own sections
I'm grateful I'll know that going in to school it's not a boast the thing that holds most weight you are in school that's amazing just thankful to have been taking good action so early
I noticed a lot of barbers go halfway closed with babyliss. Does that apply to other clippers like magic clips. Cause i always feel the need to close the half guard all the way. When using the magics
I am cutting my own hair for about a year now and I have been using the Limural clippers (Chinese brand). I want to upgrade to a better clipper now. What would you guys recommend? I am living in europe so I don't have access to all clippers (I cannot buy stylecraft clippers) I was thinking about getting a senior, JRL 2020C or Babyliss FX. They're all around the same price with the senior being a bit cheaper than the other two. The Wahl magic clip cordless (the standard one, not the gold one) is at 73 euros right now but would you recommend it nowadays? Like I said, it's just for cutting my hair at home (mid fade), so something like debulking aint really important to me because I cut my hair every week.
Funny thing is I actually been using the babyliss to start my open guide line basically same steps you do…my rebels was open felt like it was taking to much hair
brah. you da man Sean. helpful content.... some people (Mb) just wanna make click bait shit. I guess its good for kids and views..... this really helps, thanks for keeping it real. 🤙
I always used the 1/2 and the 1 1/2 as their own lines and for me to watch this. I completely understand now lol. It was an eye opening 😂 that’s what I was looking for
Jus looking for clarification in vid lower left shows 1/2 guard = 1.5mm on the web the andis guatds shows the half guard as no. 0.5 = 2.25mm jus want to make sure im using correct guard comb style;
I'm a new Cosmetologist & I need to ask a Barber - is there an unwritten rule against clipper guards larger than #8? Are they just difficult to use or are they "unprofessional?" Thank you.
I have a question. I bought the babyliss fx trimmer back in november. When I use it, it sometimes is pulling hair and it hurts. It is when I cut the beard and line up above the adams Apple area. Why is that? I oil it before every use. Is it because im pushing to hard sometimes or is it something wrong with my machine? Please answer🙏
@@drexlerramos4780 I think it often happens when i go over it slow to be honest. Maybe it was the oil. I put on a lot and used it straight after cleaning up the excess. If it is something wrong with it I would be devastated hahahah
Hey man, love the channel! How come when you put in the lines, you do zero closed, then zero open, then 1 open… Why not do 1 closed? Thanks for answering, I’m just trying to understand, thanks!! From Cambridge Uk ❤
I’m not following exactly that doesn’t sound like what I do. I have a newer video on my fade steps that breaks it down exactly and should answer any questions you have
@@Seancutshairthanks so much for replying :) 1:39 Here, you have completed the steps for zero guard, and your next steps is to use guard 1 open. I wasn’t sure why. Why not use 1 closed and blend that in. Feel free to tell me I’m being too pedantic 😂 Thanks mate :)
I have question why can’t I erase the the 2nd line with half guard even when I lever play it like I see barbers use half guard they take the line out so fast and easily can someone tell me why this happens

The andis, gamma/SC/TPOB, and several others I had to play with the guards which took out too much time. The .5 guard is a whole world of a difference. Time management.
Hey Sean you know anything about fake or replica clippers? There’s a shop here in Phoenix and they got a bunch of babyliss pro fx clippers discounted by like 150$ and it seems kinda sus
Sean just want your feed back. I’m in my first year of barbering, what are your thoughts of doing the fade with a fusion blade and doing some detailing with a taper blade?? Would you recommend investing into another clipper with a taper blade???
I do these same exact steps no matter the cut or texture. Check out some of my other tutorials for the texture you’re looking for and it will be the exact same steps
I bought some andis clippers. I dont think the 1/2 or 1 1/2 guards come standard. That purple guard alone is lije $10 by itself. That seems expensive to me for a piece of plastic
How long would this whole haircut normally take you? I'm hitting the 45 minute mark but sometimes I'm feeling rushed...so it would be helpful just to know how.mjch time you allow for this cut?

I would say its definitely a big help for a lot of barbers. But I would not say its necessary there are multiple techniques you can use to skip the half guard even the 1.5 guard can also be skipped.
@ThugNasty You can feather, freehand, cornercut, use certain angles. Theres a couple of ways to skip guards if you practice it enough and its way faster than using a guard like this where you have to go over everything 8 times in different directions until it maybe gets all the hair and then you still have to detail it afterwards.
Hey man! I have been binge watching all of your videos for the past weekend. It all started because I’m trying to a tapper haircut on my own hair. Half guard closed is shorter than clipper open

Yeah I closed it halfway with everything I ever used. Open just doesn’t really cut it
Is the fusion blade, a better blade than the taper blade?
Not necessarily better they each have their place. A taper blade is a little safer to use doesn’t cut as harsh or as short
What brand guards do you use? Do you like them?
MartyBlendz premiums. I did for a long time but have switched back to Babyliss premiums. The MartyBlendz started rattling too bad
What guard is the best for you? Jrl guards or Original standard Babyliss guards?
Because i will buy Babyliss fxone loproFx and i don't know which one is the best.
The premiums come with the fx one and they’re solid 👌🏻

If you’re cutting your own hair, magic clip will be perfect. No need to spend the extra money
Can’t go wrong with any of those. Just comes down to preference in the shape of the clipper those are all pretty different
I love the magic clippers. I have the black and gold. And just ordered the burgundy and silver ones.
How do you bald out with slimlines mine get so bogged down and miss hair no matter how they’re set?

I appreciate that! Trying to give my best!!!
Are the .5 and 1.5 guards only supposed to be used half open to blend?
Not necessarily but that’s the “sweet spot” that they work best in. Can open and close if needed

They just don’t cut very precise and anything that big can be done with scissors with way more precision
