Some of the craziest designs of enemies always come from FromSoftware games. They are probably my favorite developer. People can say what they want about difficulty but I appreciate them knowing what they're about and being consistent. From the designs, to just the way the games suck you in from the hope of finding something new at the next area. The satisfaction of beating a boss is unrivaled in From games.

Been playing From Software Souls games since Demon's Souls onward, and I have to say, Elden Ring's first moments as the world opens up are honestly breathtaking. It's enormous. But it isn't filled to the brim with mindless content, it seems to be focused more on telling its story through the open world. From Software has done it again. Got back to the beginning section, sat down and one-eye chick came and was like “nice, I was testing to see how you’d make it out of that…”

Never loved souls games even though i fool myself into buying them ALL but wow this one is so much more polished, the stealth for me is more satisfying than recent assassins creeds even, the stances + abilities flow so much more smoothly, the sense of adventure is immense. I bought a torch and questioned how much I'd need it but when i found myself walking through a dark forest and decided to pull it out, it immediately soothed some of the tension and made me feel safe almost like the save rooms in resident evil when Mr.X would chase you into one lol. Something as simple as that made me feel like a kid again, just purchasing that item and the joy that came with utilizing it.

I took a gamble and pre-ordered it even though I’ve never played a souls game in my life. It paid off big time. It took me a few hours to get used to the combat but the ability to get more powerful and return to a boss makes the game not too challenging. Being an adult gamer sucks honestly. You have more disposable income, but less time to play. I really want to play this so bad, but being a single dad with a full time career only allows me to play maybe an hour every couple of days, less than 3-4 hours a week if I'm being truthful. Throw in the older you get, the more tired you get... I'm 42 with a 4 year old daughter and even if I have time to play when I put her to bed, I'm lucky to stay awake at all while I relax in my chair to finally play.
As much as I want to play this, I probably never will. Getting lost and exploring for hours in gameplay and lore and whatnot sounds amazing, but I just don't have any time.
Anyway, moral of the story is if you want to play games as an adult, either don't get a job, a significant other, or a kid. 🤷‍♂️

From Software games aren't hard, they just are opaque in their presentation and have uneven pacing that causes many players to be confused regarding the best way to play them.
The lack of consistency means that players may pick a poorly balanced weapon, misunderstand how to allocate stats, or not realize the most efficient way to navigate the world. If you *get* any of these things the games become far smoother. I wouldn't say easy, but smoother.
Elden Ring is vastly more polished than anything they have ever done and they clearly have invested a lot of effort making the experience far smoother. I think the odds of any of the issues I mentioned above occurring are far lower.

I like Jake said you could just go and get stronger and better I never beat a Souls game I buy them might never beat them cuz they get tough but this one feels like you have so much more to do than just keep getting your ass kicked over and over again

Recommendation for anyone who decides to play this: Keep a journal, in real life, of characters and quests. Previous Souls titles have been linear enough, that it wasn’t hard to keep track and knock out quests. Now, there is so much, so many quests, in such a large world, it’s hard to remember what is happening in each quest. There is no quest log, or tracker, or chat log to review. My second play through i’ll be keeping track on a notepad.

I feel that Elden Ring will be both the easiest and hardest Souls like game so far. Not cause of difficulty. In terms of making things easier, just that it gives you more ways and tools to get the job done. But dials up the challenge abit more to balance things out. I feel that the Original games were too challenging for me cause of their linear nature and more based on pure skill etc. While this game, is basically the first of the series to branch out and try and welcome many other types of players new to the franchise but in a more accessible way than many games before did. Ive never pre ordered a souls game before. But im taking a chance with Elden Ring. This game has turned someone like me, who absolutely HATED souls games, into someone who is willing to finally give it a shot.

I hate souls games they're too hard for me and I just really don't have the time to dedicate to figure out how to beat a boss. Wasting 4 hours to beat a boss isn't as easy when I was younger. This game I feel does it right. You can get mopped over and over and keep trying. Or you can run off and explore, level up and get upgrades then come back and mop that same boss that was killing you. It feels rewarding to come back and kill that boss. I also like being able to play mage, I always play more strategically and it allows me to really think before I attack. I'm throughouly enjoying it and I understand souls players being upset but I think its better for the franchise moving forward to expand and at least give new players a chance to play.

I absolutely LOVE this game so far. I haven't had any real roadblocks yet, but that's probably because I've been ignoring main quest stuff to explore the map. When I find something that feels too difficult, I just mark it on the map and go find something else to do until I'm ready to tackle it. So much better than being stuck on Abyss Watchers for 2 hours. I mean don't get me wrong, I love the abyss watchers fight, but the option to just go do something else and come back later relieves SO much stress from the experience and really helps me stay motivated. And those statues are a Godsend. The run back to the Boss was always the worst part of the souls games. And these statues completely solve the issue, as well as giving the people who like the run back an option to do so. Literally having the cake and eating it too. Easily GOTY unless there's a MAJOR drop out of left field.

Also glad to see I'm not the only one who hasn't play a Fromsoft game either.

I installed it just to try it for an hour because I want to finish horizon first. 4 hours later, I'm still playing. Sounds pretty ridiculous, I know a lot of us wanting it to be more story focused are disappointed. I personally don't think any game can be the greatest of all time without a really good story, it might as well not exist to me if it doesn't.

This has been my favorite game. It's potentially in the throws of Dethroning Cyberpunk. Which I was on my second playthrough of.
I'm level 52 as a Confessor. And exploring and defeating the dungeons and finding the random seemingly endless content has been top tier. I liken it to the original Assassin's Creed, mixed with Skyrim, all while being a Dark Souls game. AC and Skyrim were some of my absolute favorites growing up and this is my first From Software game.
The only roadblocks I've faced that have been frustrating have been being "lost" and not knowing where to go next. But everything else. Literally everything else. Has been top tier.
Thanks for all the good stuff, Jake.

This may be the best video game I've ever played, and I'm not a hardcore Souls guy. I've beaten a couple bosses in Dark Souls 1 and Sekiro.
This game truly makes you feel like you're on an adventure. You can't predict its unfolding like in many other open world games. It is the quintessential action-RPG. It lives up to both of those titles equally.
I started as a Wretch and have built myself into a Dex-heavy enchanted knight. I still use the Lordsworn Straight Sword with a shield. Stormveil's final boss was the hardest for me so far, probably took me 25 attempts!

I've never played a Souls or From Software game before, so Elden Rings makes me super excited, I'm so close to just going ahead and buying it! I have one major concern though: recently, I thought open world games were my favorite genre but a lot of the ones I've played feel so empty and full of filler, I feel like I'm just wasting my time. It breaks the immersion for me, seeing the same stuff in patterns throughout the world, ya know? I love the idea of open world, but they never live up to the hype. Is Elden Rings better? Is it really different from other open-worlds?

Literally was in the exact same situation as you. Was my first fromsoft game and I've been let down by a lot of open world games recently. But let me say Elden Ring is different. I'm still reallly in the early stages of the game, just beat the first boss and I still have really only explored the first region but even that has taken me 20 hours and the world is absolutely amazingly crafted. A lot of open world games still lead the players to certain areas and events so it starts to feel repetitive but this world really does feel like it was made to be a WORLD but not a vehicle to get players from experience A to B. There is so much detail and small things that you could just walk by. The world itself really does feel rewarding to go out and explore, I'm having an absolute blast so far

Yea, the open world aspect makes this game so chill. It's definitely difficult but just get on Torrent and go explore somewhere else if things get to be too much. So much stuff to find and things to do. I'm a Souls fan but the only game I put decent time into was Dark Souls. I figured I'd like Elden Ring but it's completely absorbed me. It's just so insanely fun. I love doing most things solo and then teaming up in coop with friends to take on bosses or difficult side quest dungeons. Level 41 right now, about 37 hours in. Beat Margit and Godrick and a bunch of mini bosses.

  • @krock2894
    @krock2894 2 года назад +8

In terms of this being a good place to start, it sounds like instead of being easy, the open world aspect is going to make the challenge less frustrating. Instead of being stuck and unable to progress you have options. Which is going to take that tedious grind some people don't like out of the equation. I'm so pumped for this game.

The Legacy of Kain Series used to be my favorite games and they will always have a special place in my gamer heart, but the Dark Souls series, Sekiro, Bloodborne, and now Elden Ring have become something more to me. It's kind of funny, but some of the RUclips content that has come regarding 2022 games to watch that didn't mention Elden Ring, I almost got offended. From Software really does make genius games. I really appreciate Jake's review as well, especially since he is admittedly not even a die-hard Dark Souls fan. It's good to see From Software getting the respect they deserve.
