They seen this failure coming. They just didn't think it would be within two weeks of launch lol. It's hard to support an online game when no one's playing it.
I am a PS5 player. In all of my friend list (from people I have met playing multiplayer games) I have not seen one of them playing Concord. This game's only chance to come back is to be a single player story heavy, episodic game. And they give you the first 2-3 episodes for free and charge you 5 bucks for the other ones or something. And then they add the arena shooter MP element, which is for free. Other than that, this game is absolutely dead.
I imagine no punitive measures will be brought against anyone for the bad decisions regarding Concord. It may even lead to promotions. Executives fail upwards not downwards. All that money still landed in someone's pockets it didnt just evaporate.
I'm kind of shocked the RUclips algo only just recommended one of Jake's videos to me for the first time. I mean I've got to have watched at least several thousand ShillUp and Giantbomb videos.
TLOUS Factions didn't happen for a good reason Naughty Dog didn't want to have a live service game because, it would have limited them working on other games. They also don't have any experience with live service and I think they realized it was a mistake.
honestly credit to devs who aren't ego driven. they listened to the destiny team about the large undertaking, would've been nice if they made a smaller improved version of the original fractions as a dlc. could've got their feet wet.
Oh my goodness gracious I had completely forgotten about TLOU Factions. To cancel that but finish the launch of Concord is so surprising for sure. I never had much of an interest in Concord but totally makes you wonder what they saw in it vs Factions. Really glad Firestrike seems okay and I hope they can really flex creative muscles on the next one.
I for one like remasters and remakes. I grew up playing with those games and the opportunity to relive the experience is good imo. Also, most of the devs that worked on the originals were at out age when working on those games and now they are in the 50s and 60s. Remasters and remakes without the originals teams or at least the leaders would not be as good imo hence why the trend is pretty hight atm.
A few things on Concord: Firewalk wanted to make Concord. They are a team made up of former Bungie employees. They wanted to make a multiplayer game with content not behind paid expansions and battles passes. Concord was their first attempt at this. We don't know how much Sony paid to acquire Firewalk. All we know is Herman Hulst played an early version of the game and he likes it so much Sony acquired Firewalk in April 2023. Naughty Dog decided to stop development of Factions after Bungie reviewed what they had and told them what needed to be done to make Factions successful. Naughty Dog decided it wasn't worth it. It is likely that if they released the game without being willing to do the things Bungie suggested Factions would eventually be a mess.
I honestly don't think it has to be as complicated as companies are making it for themselves. They're so hyper-focused right now on trying to ensure they make a game for a "modern audience" and even going as far as to tell players "if you don't like it don't play/buy it", and just assuming their self imposed direction is the thing to do. Meanwhile, I think gamers are quite clearly showing what they will support, what they want, but companies have convinced themselves that they know better than what is quite literally being shown to them time and time again. It's a self imposed problem to a point. Of course I'm not saying all you have to do is make x game and you're guaranteed success, but I do think that so many of them are vastly reducing their own odds of success by self-imposed directions and decisions.
This is not true. Naughty Dog stopped working on Factions after Bungie said what needed to be done to make Factions successful and Naughty Dog decided it wasn't worth it.
Being critical of Concord or the Minecraft movie isn't a bad thing, I think it leads to improvement down the road. Just think of the original Sonic the Hedgehog movie trailer and how much better it turned out from folks being critical of it. You're doing God's work Jake, keep it up.
I'm there with you Jake about TLOU Factions. Idk what the support or how deep the Live Service elements would have been, but it would have stood out being 3rd person stealth/crafting focused with a built in audience. It also doesn't need to be Naughty Dog working on Factions, pretty sure the original multiplayer was outsourced to another studio, similar to other 2010s tacked on multiplayer like Tomb Raider or Dead Space or Bioshock or Arkham Origins. Idk why they went with Concord when SOCOM/Killzone/Resistance are right there, I could easily see those becoming GAAS games.

my favorite thing about the minecraft movie so far is seeing some one in the comment section of the teaser asking why jack black was casted to play steve when steve is supposed to be square not round
Could you make like a multiple hour long maybe compilation style video for when I'm playing mindless comfort food video games? The amount of dopamine that would release could potentially make the end of a long work week feel worth it.
Minecraft trailer reminded me of the OG hyper realistic texture packs and I stand by that. I'm kinda hyped for it tho, Jack Black is carrying my hype hard tho.
I think Concord's biggest issue was that it wasn't free-to-play and that it didn't release on Xbox with cross-platform. If they had branded it as basically Overwatch but not Activision-Blizzard and you can play with every gamer friend you have immediately for free, then it MIGHT have had a shot. Why pay money to learn and get invested in a new multiplayer game if you can't play with your whole friend group like you can on other games you already know for free? I think if they had gone with a battle-royale mode then that might have helped too (ie Apex). They also should have dropped this for free with little to no marketing (ie Apex), more people would have tried it and could have potentially gotten more players. You can't do a live-service game and charge money for it as sight unseen (new IP, new studio) and expect people to buy in. It works for Call of Duty, because it's Call of Duty. It worked for Overwatch, because people were excited for a new Blizzard IP. I don't think the character design helped either, obviously. Uninspired and not memorable. Also the name "Concord" just reminds me of grapes, not exactly "badass".
This is why i love watching Jake ramble. He doesnt just hate for the sake of hating or jumping on bandwagon. Concord was an absolute mess and no idea how it got greenlit. Glad to see you saying the phrase “lets hope they learn from this” rather than just “that game sucked” Also minecraft movie looks terrible. I am glad to see you say the same lol
Hey Jake, I keep seeing people call Concord “woke” and it seems to result in a ton of people to avoid a game based off that label. Do you think “woke” games are a problem now of days? (Example: _Kill the Justice League_ having lesbian Dr. Freeze).
I think it depends on what woke means. Like if a game is all non-binary with they/them pronouns and identity politics dominating over character design and story, then yes it definitely annoys players and feels forced.
is that why the number one movie 2024 is a feamle centric movie and last year the same and netflix most steramed is a female centrix action movie ? move on dude you lost

Concord is not a shock its was a terrible game created for a "modern audience" that doesn't exist. Eventually people will figure out that people don't want DEI shoved down their throats. put Diversity in your games but do it organically and stop preaching to us. It's that simple and sony just needs to stop hirering activists to make games. Well all know why Concord failed Jake the fact that you aren't acknowledge the fact that this was a DEI fail is really mind blogging and honestly disappointing. .
Couldn't agree more! Shame on them! They are so soft and on the payroll to push the agenda.. But don't worry, the users are sending their message and atrocities like concord, suicide squad are failing hard, and games like Wu Kong and space marines thrive in the market.
Yeah I was looking for this comment, I do not wan't to give disingenous people watch time, who doesn't acknowledge the piece of ugly media such as Concord which is the biggest reason it flopped. Evidence? The skins in The First Descendant got more profits than a game shilled by fake "game journalists" and Sony for years. Shame the Gameranx guy who uses sexy women in thumbnails a few years back is now a shill for fake virtue signal companies.
Yo the Terminator anime is a great shout! Here’s hoping the Tomb Raider one comes out just as good, adding in another dash of positivity in our gaming lives
The Minecraft movie trailer to me looks like that advert a game like Candy Crush puts out on TV to try to convince you to play and it's interspersed with actual gameplay footage and you're sitting there wondering if the shots heavy on CGI are actually cut scenes from the game. But they're not.
I remember my first time getting into Minecraft, see it up on my pc and day for hours until I had enough for a day. Turned off my pc, stood up and almost fell down from my legs not being used for hours and feeling hunger hit me super hard
Imo the only correct way to do a Minecraft movie would be to invite many of the Minecraft creators to participate in. Mumbo, Antvenom, Skip, FitMc, Salc1 and many others that I don't even know, have the lore be around an interconnected creative world or something where they communitarily join efforts to do something grand, that would be very cool because that's the essence of minecraft: Sharing knowledge, sharing moments, sharing creations, exploration, colaboration; If they explore the essence of Minecraft it should work, but doing a goofy comedy aint it
There's a chance in like 10, 20 years Concord could be valuable to game collectors since it could be a "rare" game with it not being released for so long. I'd say it's a pretty safe bet to pick up a copy if you see one and keep it sealed. I'm gonna grab one if I see one. Great video as always!
The fact that the first announcement was a story trailer, followed by a collective grown when it was announced to be a hero shooter instead of a single player story-based game, shouldve told sony what they needed to know.
Consumer > The Mine Craft movie doesn't look good. Gaming Journalist > The Mine Craft movie isn't for you Consumer > Neither was Concord, so good luck with that. Gaming Journalist > OMG WHY DIDN't ANYONE WATCH THE MOVIE? **shocked**
i know that this channel is meant to be just about things you like but i like hearing about things you don't like or aren't feeling every once in a while like you did here i appreciate you keeping it positive and optimistic most of the time though
The thing people forget is that this game was in development before Sony were involved. This was originally being developed in conjunction with Firewalks previous owners, ProbablyMonsters. Sony got hold of the project when they bought Firewalk in 2023. And let's be honest, a few of the guys at Firewalk were involved in Destiny so this is probably why they thought acquiring them and the IP was a good idea.
At this point, every single greedy Publisher studio should take Concord as a lesson to never invest in live-service again and let game developers innovate.
Seems to me Jake needs to see himself some more anime, Psycho Pass could be a pretty fun one, same with Hellsing Ultimate. One of them is a great sci-fi thriller with a back and forth that'll keep you on the edge of your seat for the whole ride. The other is one of the most epic vampire action fests that you'll ever have seen (also Alucard is just one sassy vampire.)
I think it’s a good reality check for the games industry when a live service game fails. It’s such a potential money pit that many studios are chasing live service models instead of developing something within their lane.
Hey Jake, as an addition to your Terminator Zero talk, did you know Humble Bundle’s got a Terminator promotion for the comics? $20 literally gets you their entire collection and it’s apparently over 1,300+ pages of content. I binge read Terminator: The Dark Years in a flight, it was pretty cool.
I hope Astro bot sells well just to finally hammer into sony executive heads that chasing the live service trends will bring them nothing but lost money because everyone already has decided which live service they will play until the end of times.
Agreed Jake. Saddest part about the whole Concord thing is the time that has been lost. And unfortunately it’s like the biggest issue with the current generation. It takes so long for games to come out from our favourite developers these days and a few times if not more they end up being a disappointment
I want to see the minecraft movie to see if they show some of the awesome and rediculous features it has: finding an underground cave with many tunnels and abandoned mineshafts or jumping off a super tall cliff into 2 blocks of water to be safe, making an nether portal using water and lava buckets instead of a diamond pickaxe, and crafting interesting redstone contraptions. The derp-face on the animal was a good addition, but I'm not too into the trans Momoa and the snarky girl roasting Jack Black
This is definitely not the first time I’ve heard someone bring up the argument, “They canceled TLOU Factions but put out Concord?” And I totally agree. I never truly got into actions back in the day. But if they made a full game for factions, I would do my best to get into it. I am a TLOU fan for life.
Concord was like the 50th "Overwatch", wasn't free to play yet didn't manage to convey anything new and exiting to draw players in which would be super important with a price tag on it. The only thing notable about it was some media and content creators calling its characters ugly and "pc" which doesn't sound like a particular effective draw to capture the masses.
I’m one of the few people alive, I guess, who never vibed with or “got” Minecraft as a game, so a movie doesn’t really excite me. Interesting to see how this plays out. Hope it’s good and fun for the fans of the game.
I feel bad for the people that worked on this. It’s gotta be disheartening to work on something for years to see it disappear so quickly. Worse looking, buggy games have been available for a whole lot longer.
I thought Salvation was tight too. Seeing Christian Bale as a John Conner through a movie series about the actual rebellion was such a great opportunity lost.
I hope Concord scares Sony back into investing big in single player games again.

All that money could have been spent on Days Gone 2 and Sony would be swimming in money.
I woulda loved that. Days Gone was a good time and if they built on that for a second one we could get something really great
days gone 2 would not sell dawg
I liked Days Gone but i don´t think it will be a success
@@Berssange55way better success than Concord.
Days Gone 2? Could have gone to Bloodborne Remake which is a more requested Sony product than anything else.
That and the obvious...
Every single audit and survey they ran showed not enough interest in TLOU2 PGA Edition.
Should have just put it in the package with TLOU2. Everything doesn’t need to be live service
they knew they didn't have the manpower or development mindset geared for live-service.
@@ILikeYousIf you we would be able to join different factions and fight a faction that is lead by Abby, it would drive some interest
You guys got it all wrong.
Concord wasn't to late, it was way too early, because they went for a retro-vibe 😂

@@cenciende9401 i’ll watch it because my daughter wants to. Same with Borderlands she is a huge Jack Black fan!
"Concord has no rizz"
-Jake Baldino, 2024
I for one like remasters and remakes. I grew up playing with those games and the opportunity to relive the experience is good imo. Also, most of the devs that worked on the originals were at out age when working on those games and now they are in the 50s and 60s. Remasters and remakes without the originals teams or at least the leaders would not be as good imo hence why the trend is pretty hight atm.
It just breaks me that we get concord but not a days gone 2
Blame it on RUclipsrs like Jake. They were brutal on Days Gone, despite it being one of the best games of recent times.
blame gamers who did not buy danys gone but spend a lot on skins i cod and fortnite
@@johansvensson833 Gamers buy whatever RUclipsrs tell them to buy. NPC hive mind.
A few things on Concord:
Firewalk wanted to make Concord.
Of course I'm not saying all you have to do is make x game and you're guaranteed success, but I do think that so many of them are vastly reducing their own odds of success by self-imposed directions and decisions.
love hearing you talk, your points and how you approach things are super interesting! i appreciate what you do so much 💛
Tlou online died so this monstrosity could live
Lol it didn't live
This is not true. Naughty Dog stopped working on Factions after Bungie said what needed to be done to make Factions successful and Naughty Dog decided it wasn't worth it.

Being critical of Concord or the Minecraft movie isn't a bad thing, I think it leads to improvement down the road. Just think of the original Sonic the Hedgehog movie trailer and how much better it turned out from folks being critical of it. You're doing God's work Jake, keep it up.
No, he's doing real work with no connection to inherent evil or cultism
We don't hate concord, we hate what it stands for
What does/did it stand for?
exactly.
@@anoofadam351 "Exactly" what?
@@DanteMasaru A number of things to different people, but as someone who has just seen it and not played it, leaving politics/culture aside. One could say it represents the attitude of pushing out unoriginal slop and making bank because the companies believe the average idiot will buy it.
@@Superintendent8814 Such an attitude is prevalent across the entertainment industry, to be fair. And given that, I'm going to make the assumption that the hate of "What Concord stands/stood for" this comment thread is alluding to is something that is a bit unhinged and totally unrelated to why it flopped.
I hope this means we get more single player games like sly cooper which is a franchise that needs to return in my opinion.

The MC Telltale game was awesome, I still have my 360 and One copies and go back every once in a while.
There’s so much good underlying good lore to pick from in MC and the trailer for the movie is one of the weirdest things I’ve seen in a while, which is saying something. 😆
I think the industry is starting to find out that when you shove agendas/live service games we as consumers are just over it and we are going to vote with our wallet
what agendas?
the Fact that Gameranz and Jake are dancing around these topics is disappointing. they are playing it safe and being soft

my favorite thing about the minecraft movie so far is seeing some one in the comment section of the teaser asking why jack black was casted to play steve when steve is supposed to be square not round
Looks like the "Modern Audience" doesn't exist after all
Could you make like a multiple hour long maybe compilation style video for when I'm playing mindless comfort food video games? The amount of dopamine that would release could potentially make the end of a long work week feel worth it.
Minecraft trailer reminded me of the OG hyper realistic texture packs and I stand by that. I'm kinda hyped for it tho, Jack Black is carrying my hype hard tho.
Jake your clean and calm demeanor is so refreshing! Thanks for all you do.
Also the name "Concord" just reminds me of grapes, not exactly "badass".
yh, pretty much every live service is f2p.
You're handicapping yourself adding a pricetag at this point when your competitors are all free.
Terminator Zero was awesome. Definitely captured what the Terminator used to be. I like the little tid bits they did to call out the first 2 movies.
The reason is so clearly the characters lol

This is why i love watching Jake ramble. He doesnt just hate for the sake of hating or jumping on bandwagon. Concord was an absolute mess and no idea how it got greenlit. Glad to see you saying the phrase “lets hope they learn from this” rather than just “that game sucked”
Also minecraft movie looks terrible.

Well all know why Concord failed Jake the fact that you aren't acknowledge the fact that this was a DEI fail is really mind blogging and honestly disappointing. .
What are your talking about?
Couldn't agree more! Shame on them! They are so soft and on the payroll to push the agenda..
But don't worry, the users are sending their message and atrocities like concord, suicide squad are failing hard, and games like Wu Kong and space marines thrive in the market.
Yeah I was looking for this comment, I do not wan't to give disingenous people watch time, who doesn't acknowledge the piece of ugly media such as Concord which is the biggest reason it flopped. Evidence? The skins in The First Descendant got more profits than a game shilled by fake "game journalists" and Sony for years.
That shot of Jason Momoa made me think of Sam Rockwell's character (the blonde one) in Gentleman Broncos.
Gaming Journalist > The Mine Craft movie isn't for you
Consumer > Neither was Concord, so good luck with that.
Gaming Journalist > OMG WHY DIDN't ANYONE WATCH THE MOVIE? **shocked**
i know that this channel is meant to be just about things you like but i like hearing about things you don't like or aren't feeling every once in a while like you did here
i appreciate you keeping it positive and optimistic most of the time though
I'm so glad you liked Terminator Zero. Both this and Cyberpunk Edgerunners are gems of video game anime
RIP Rich Homie Quan
At this point, every single greedy Publisher studio should take Concord as a lesson to never invest in live-service again and let game developers innovate.
the devs had 8 years to innovate 😭
Seems to me Jake needs to see himself some more anime, Psycho Pass could be a pretty fun one, same with Hellsing Ultimate. One of them is a great sci-fi thriller with a back and forth that'll keep you on the edge of your seat for the whole ride. The other is one of the most epic vampire action fests that you'll ever have seen (also Alucard is just one sassy vampire.)
I think it’s a good reality check for the games industry when a live service game fails. It’s such a potential money pit that many studios are chasing live service models instead of developing something within their lane.
I just got space marine 2 in the mail and holy shit what a game.
this man would not even clown on concord. you are too good for this world jake
The Minecraft movie is literally just the new Jumanji movies but with squares everywhere
'Sticking with what works' only works for a while. Eventually we change, and we have changed
The teaser for the Minecraft move was totally bizarre and unhinged! I don't know where somebodies headspace was at when they pitched this movie!
