I still don’t understand why some musicians still try to lip sync despite the number of times it has spectacularly backfired and damaged a lot of musicians careers
Some networks and venues actually require it but I think it’s usually a decision by managers and labels rather than the artist. More performances are lip synced than most would guess. But there’s also the element of vocal fatigue and illness. The options are to give a garbage performance or lip sync when 99.9% of the time they go off without a hitch. Then there are singers who have elaborate dance routines. It’s next to impossible to sound one’s best and do the dances. If they’re famous for their dance moves too, they are def lip syncing during their live performances.
Because in the olden days live vocal processing was still in its infancy. You would need a Mix engineer just off-stage processing everything in real time. Most live TV performances and concerts would just use the pre-recorded studio version processed vocals. Some performers will actually sing along with the vocal track but many just lip sing. When you see a performer dancing about like crazy and running around the stage waving their arms and hyping up the crowd... THAT'S A VOCAL TRACK you're hearing. You'd naturally be out of breath from doing all of that and your vocal performance would suffer. There is ALWAYS a difference in the Dry (un processed) vocal track and the Wet (processed) vocal rack of any song. This is why the Live version of a favorite song just sounds like crap as compared to the studio version. I'd even go as far to say that many record labels probably mandate the use of vocal tracks during live performances to uphold the studio integrity of the song for continued listener expectations and record sales.
You've got to hand it to Martin Short. He handled Kathy's screwups like a pro. What a guy. And Steve Harvey, took responsibility for his mistake, and made no excuses for it.
This feels more like a “celebrity screw up” video rather than a “celebrities destroyed their own careers” list as most of the famous people mentioned either bounced back in success or suffered little to no ramifications.
Sinead O'Connor did nothing wrong, she was taking a hardline stance against pedophilia in the catholic church, it was a powerful statement that deserved applause, but instead was met with threats and the downfall of a talented musician's career. RIP Sinead, your music and your message touched my life
I imagine being an actor probably helps. They play pretend for a living, so it's probably a lot easier for them to roll with the punches than the average person in that sort of situation. Not saying it was easy, but no doubt made easier by that fact.
You would think that Gifford would have researched him before interviewing him. That is a problem that has continued with NBC female speakers to this day. Milli Vanilli in my opinion weren't so much villains as victims. They genuinely did want to sing on their songs and were under the impression they would. However, because they weren't native or fluent in English they were used - against their will - as the pretty faces of other people's voices. They were put in a no win situation of either being frauds or in all sorts of trouble with their label if they did come clean. Milli Vanilli were hardly the first act fronted by people who didn't sing the songs, either. They just became scapegoats because as Grammy winners they were seen as more serious musicians than the likes of Tight Fit or Lipps Inc. When the net result was somebody's life being ended by their own hand I don't think they were the one with a lot to answer for!
Steve Harvey made a mistake. As soon as he realized, he promptly admitted it, took full responsibility, and apologized. You could see he was very sorry for what he did. What more can you ask for? Everyone makes misrakes. Not everyone takes responsibility. Especially in today's world. I think he's wonderful!❤️❤️😛 Funny and warm, and has a good character aura around him. Steve Harvey is doing even better, because he was able to make this failure into a joke and welcomed the diss. He's still the host of Family Feud and even moved over to host it in Africa, which is a huge honor for Black people. He's doing more than fine
And the production team apparently wanted to correct the thing next day in the papers? Harvey showed 100% class, honesty and balls to go out there and just say "guys, I fucked up".
Ashley's career was over before it began. The record company (I think she was on Geffen), producers, and even MTV (I think, maybe another network) tried so hard to force it and create a star from someone who only ever had average vocal talent, if that. A group of people worked to try and make her famous and they had a built-in starter fan base and automatic media coverage because of her older sister's career. She wasn't ever gonna make it. It was Rebecca Black and "Friday" but with even more money and more industry people behind the effort. Poor girl. Quite embarrassing. But I'm pretty sure she's doing alright.

Like people expect celebrities to not be human, and therefore devoid of fault, otherwise said celebrity is a monster.
Seriously! Janet was screwed in that whole thing. Janet didn't make the costume or expose her own breast. The costume seemed to be poorly made and Justin ripped her brazier. Janet was a totally innocent bystander. She did nothing wrong.

Will Smith isn't going anywhere. He will definitely be back on the big screen with many more movies. To make it clear though, I am not defending Will Smith's actions as it was uncalled for. And Will Smith knew his actions were inappropriate as it was a spur of the moment thing and publicly apologized to the audience and to Chris Rock personally and said he would take full responsibility for whatever the academy felt was punishment for Will Smith's actions.
I dunno...I can't see anyone giving him a role knowing automatically he can't go to accept an award even if he wins.too much baggage comes with him now.

She did? That's really sad. Makes me wonder if she even did it on purpose.

Sinead O'Connor did nothing wrong, she was taking a hardline stance against pedophilia in the catholic church, it was a powerful statement that deserved applause, but instead was met with threats and the downfall of a talented musician's career. RIP Sinead, your music and your message touched my life
She knew she was gonna get backlash but was trying to bring light to crimes that have consistently been swept under the rug.

I had her back in that regard. She was simply exposing the truth. Mainstream media is just too chicken to back up the facts.
What she did was very wrong.
Truth, Sinead was way before Her time and totally real. The brain washed Religious hypocrites were the ones that assassinated Her career.
My God, that Martin Short one made me so sad. I couldn't imagine being able to hold it together like he was.
I imagine being an actor probably helps. They play pretend for a living, so it's probably a lot easier for them to roll with the punches than the average person in that sort of situation. Not saying it was easy, but no doubt made easier by that fact.

Right?! He was feeling passionate about about what he was saying. Good Lord some of the things that get said and done but go ignored now....... 🤦♀️ Unfortunately as soon as I heard that come out of his mouth I immediately knew he was going to get crucified for it.
I remember watching Sinead O'Connor tear up that picture. Anyone watching knew she was going to face backlash. It was a smear campaign by the Catholic Church, pure and simple. If she had done that recently, she'd be applauded for speaking out.
And I think most people were watching in anticipation of her doing something during her performance, and she delivered!
I really don't know why they cancelled Sinéad O'Connor, I mean cuz she ain't wrong about the child abuse done by Catholic priests or any other religions. All of that has been brought to light in recent years. I stand by Sinéad's decision.
