Techs should clean the flame sensor everytime they service a furnace or boiler even when there r other issues. It will save or delay a future service call.

Hi Andy, very thorough and clear video! Thank you so much for posting! You have a new subscriber! If you have a moment, could you help me out, please? My inducer motor comes on, runs a little and then ignition. Two seconds later furnace shuts down. I've taken out flame sensor and cleaned it. Same thing. Bought 2 more flame sensors and the same thing. I have to take out and clean about every week. Any idea what the problem could be? I've had someone say it could be the burner by the flame sensor, that it could be dirty and not putting out a hot flame like the other burners. Therefore the flame sensor doesn't detect a flame and shuts the system down. Could it be that? Also someone said it could be the circuit board. However, if I clean the sensor, it works for about a week and then back at cleaning again. It doesn't even look dirty when I take it out and clean it again. Any suggestion would be helpful!! I mean if the burner by the flame sensor is rusted, then maybe could be the burner but doubt it. I would guess a grounding issue. Most flame rectification issues are. I would ensure there is a good ground all the way back to the breaker box and hooked up everywhere. If it is and still an issue, I suppose it could be a control board. But I would def look at grounding first. Don't buy anymore flame sensors. They usually just need cleaned instead of replaced so it has to be something else effecting it. Thanks for watching! Hi Andy, I just wanted to let you know what the problem was in case you ever come across this. It turned out to be the pressure switch. I changed it out and bam, no more problems. I would have thought it was the flame sensor with the symptoms it was doing. But no, it was the pressure switch. Glad I was able to repair this. Thanks for posting an awesome video and keep them coming!!
I have spark ignition Dayton NG heater Which I installed in about 2015. HVAC tech came out and fixed it and an hour later no heat/no flame. I will check flame sensor tomorrow. How can I contact you through email? Great education here.

hi great explanation.. question.. i have no amperage to the rod, replace the board still the same no current to the f sensor. i replaced induce fan, pressure switch, flame sensor, gas valv (adjusted to 3.5 wc in specs).
resistance nighter is low 50ohms, all limit switches have continuities.
all in sequential starts when power on means, inducer fan, pressure switch, igniter glows, gas valve on (has 26v to it) but wont burn. Also removed and cleaned all burner surface with metal brush , really cleaned. (on off 3 times then lock out, 1 blink led).
Rarely it does burns, then the next cycle it would not burn again then lock out.
so my question is, if intermittent amperage to the sensor and the board is replace, what else can i do next? no amperage and 80volts to the sensor.

Do the burners actually light and not reading microamps on the flame sensor or do the burners never light?
@@hvacstandard the burner lite, no microamp. but. got it fix.. somewhere the ground wasn't good. had to looked at all wires, all the disconnects, after all, it works..

Your video says when it won’t stay lit. In your video the furnace stays Lit. My furnace shuts off on two seconds
Wat if the flame only last 1 second or 2 and turn off even with new flame sensor . It does has a smart valve ?
There could possibly be a few things. Maybe the valve is failed. Or poor grounding to the unit. Reversed polarity or even the pressure switch intermittently opening. I would start with checking the ground and check for reversed polarity just to make sure. Hope that helps! Be sure to subscribe if your not already and have a great day!

Please never use sand clothe as it changes the resistance use a dollar bill or a foam cleaner pad
Seems to me and a good majority of the industry are doing just fine using Emory cloth. I've done it 25 years and as well as most anyone I've met in this industry. We seem to be doing OK with it. But thank-you for the advice! I'll take it into consideration.
