I hate having a nurse come that is clueless!! You can call the nursing company and tell them that the nurse they sent wasn’t familiar with lines and hasn’t changed a TPN dressing or Hickman line in 4 years. And ask if they can send someone who is familiar with it. I know you can do that in the states.. They ended up sending me a nurse who was amazing and actually taught me so much. I used to be afraid to speak up but you have to be your own advocate. Especially ppl like us. One wrong move can cause us massive problems. Good luck! You are looking amazing! 💖💜💖

I have an absolutely amazing home care nurse and the most important thing he has taught me is that I’m allowed to make a fuss about something if I don’t like what’s going on. He always reminds me that it’s my body and if I don’t feel like something is right I have the final say on everything. I’ve had a central line since May and he has done it all from PICC dressing changes to port care but he’s been preparing me for the day another nurse does it so that it gets done exactly how it’ll be comfortable for me. I’d say be comfortable enough to speak up, if she says “I haven’t done this in 4 years” you’re absolutely allowed to have a red flag go off and say “I’m not actually comfortable with that, I’d rather get another nurse or take care of it myself.” Since the line is relatively new for you I’d say it’s especially important for you to be comfortable with your nurses because if you aren’t comfortable with the person teaching you then you’ll never be truly comfortable doing it independently.

I'm a nurse and I ABSOLUTELY agree! If I haven't done something in a while, it is always inappropriate to do that task without help. In my opinion.

Girl, you call your Home Health people and tell them you don’t want her again, and to send people who are experienced! It’s your right and you are why they get paid. I had a few nightmare nurses myself!! One nurse I had unhooked my wound vac, he didn’t know how to hook it back up...He said to me to call my head nurse or the wound vac people to walk you thru it..Like OMGOODNESS here I was with a terribly long and very deep wound with me flat on my back in tears! Anywho, the one I have now is very nice, and I have no problem doing what I must to get the best care...It’s your body and you are worth it!! Xoxo

You can refuse ANY help you don’t want. You can also switch companies , if that’s available. You can get a new nurse. And ask for the same nurse every time. They work for you. This is your health and just a job to them. 💜

You should call the home health agency and inform them. It’s an infection risk if she doesn’t know what she’s doing. They can easily give her training so she can improve her skills and care for others. (I’m an inpatient care nurse and had to go through several trainings to care for lines.)
Plus that’s how my pups would act when I’d go home to my mom’s after I moved out. They’d always be so happy to see me. Pure unconditional love 💕

I work for a home care company in Canada. You can ALWAYS request that someone new come and make sure you say you don't want the other nurse to return. It wont affect the nurse negatively with her job wise and it WILL ensure she doesn't return and you receive someone competent

Hey ya! I'm no sure what is done in Aussie but as a health professional in nz, I would ask for a nurse who specializes in tpn or tell this nurse how you prefer your dressings. You have to live with it at the end of the day. :)

The incompetence of homecare in every way left me stuck in a nursing home for years in my 20's, none of the agencies were able to meet my needs & exacerbated my situation. I cannot tell you the physical & psychological distress I endured living in various homes (very few exist for adults with physical disabilities, beds are scarce. I was on a ward in how for 2 years waiting for a bed, they gave up at that point & put me in a dementia home, totally inappropriate for a 20 year woman with physical needs while waiting for a bed in another home & it went in and on like that for years) & at the hands of others incompetence.
In my experience finding a couple of nurses locally (maybe you know someone from the hospital, I have a list I've built up from the staff I know from admissions to pick from) who want a little extra work & income every now and then when you need them is really helpful. Alternatively, finding someone who works independently nurse/carer yourself & training them to your needs & calling on them as needed. Or a mixture of the two. In my experience with agencies (carers & nursing) you get sent random people every time, you will never be guaranteed the same person, so much like the nurse that visited you, you don't know if they can meet your needs. When you need them, you are more vulnerable & need to know you're in safe hands, their job is to help not add stress to situation or do something wrong & make you worse. I appreciate everyone's experiences are different, different areas, countries etc. I don't believe all nurses or carers are useless- I have had extremely bad experiences & have complex issues that take time to learn my needs (unfortunately my past experiences didn't always allow time for either my needs or learning of said needs). If you find someone that is willing to be flexible, listen & learn you'll be just fine.

You are allowed to refuse service from a nurse in any area and also request a new nurse etc.
BUT if you usually change your own dressings and do all that yourself, the company may have thought youd always do that, because health professionals beleif that people shoulod be empowered to look after their own helth as much as possible, they would not take a skill away from you if you can do it yourself. They may not of considered you needed to be allocated a staff member that was competant in that type of dressing if you have made it known that you can do it yourself. Companies that provide nursing health are there for support and to do tasks that you yourself are not competant in.

I used to hate my home nurse visits. She clearly didn’t know what was going on with me and couldn’t be bothered learning. I had a port and she would do things that would aggravate it and make it so painful

When I was treated horribly in the ER the nurse was clueless. They gave me a super strong antipsychotic (even after I said no and I wasn't 51/50d) and when I got fed up and left the nurse expected me that was drugged out to hold my bandage from my IV and I bled through it, my shirt and was standing in a puddle of my blood. She literally gave me a bullet wound gauze patch. It blows my mind how people like that can have a job especially in the ER where people go in during the worst times of their life😡🙄

I’m sorry your home care nurse is clueless. Can you request someone else? It’s extremely concerning she isn’t familiar with the procedures she needs to know in order to help you. Seems like a liability for the company for sure. I’m positive the pups miss you the same if not more than you miss them. They can be so sensitive to changes but you definitely made the right choice being in a cleaner, more sterile environment.

Couldn’t tell on the video but looked like the cuff was coming out (what holds the line in) I’ve had this happen a few times and could suggest the line has moved plus nothing securing it in (with having stitches removed so early and with EDS this is common) but it needs to be checked really as nothing holds the line in and technically it should be replaced. Shocked at that home care nurse tho if the cuff has come out she should of noticed straight away! Hope I’m wrong and it’s not your cuff hun x

Let your company know she is not experienced enough( as her not knowing how handle your dressing is alarming. That does look pain full. Last thing you want is infection because one little tinny mistake even can be very harmful.Aww with your pups aww Lilly so cute. But hey their are a lot people with pic and port that have dogs and are able do so. Some of them do bath their dogsmore or put shoes on them like when going outside protect them from feet comeing in kinda like humans and want take shoes off at door not tract threw house.. So I just want bring that up as I know you miss them. But one magor benefit being at your dads though is getting extra rest that you need. But that nurse job needs know because never want you or other in harm.

Where did you and your friends go? Out to a bar or someone's home? Is it difficult for you to be around people who are drinking alcohol (if that's what they were doing)? But regardless, I am glad you had fun. Do you have any other fun things planned?
