I’ll be using my mini spinners and bitsy bugs this weekend in the creek near where we are camping. It feeds into the Susquehanna River so there are a bunch of Smallmouth bass.

A spinnerbait and a diawa 2500 was my starting fishing like that in the 1970's in a lake on my grandparents property which we lived next door too bill dance taught me and man o man did I get addicted to that type of fishing

Hey Richard, love the videos but you can throw them small baits on a bait cast reel. You need to get yourself a nice BFS combo and you can throw them small spinnerbaits and even smaller baits.. I've been using them for 3 years now and absolutely love catching bluegills on a baitcaster..

Creek fishing used to be one of my favorite places to fish back in the day. I think those small spinnerbait models where called Mini-whackers and they were one of the most productive baits we used for creeks and small rivers. I remember I had just come home from the military overseas and my sister had come home to visit. We drove to a creek near the house and I pitched a mini-whacker across the creek. It ricocheted off a rock and landed under a tree in the water. I don't think I had even turned the crank on the Amassadore 5500c and it was ON. The big bass rolled on the surface and my sister just couldn't believe how big it was for such a small creek, a five pounder!

@@captrockh2055 Yes, beetle spins a great bait for ponds too. You can catch about anything on them. Crappie, bass, and walleye to name a few.

For years I always downsized in creeks, I got to where I use standard sized lures and have found that I have better success

The spinner bait defined my teenage fishing experiences for largemouth and northerns. Nowadays, my go to is a Texas rig crawl, but I still toss a spinner when I’m struggling.

I learn something new every time that I watch this channel. The other day, I used a plastic Helgamite which you recently had an episode on. I caught some nice fish. However, I've got a long way to go before I know what I'm doing with plastics. I will continue to work to get better.

Great video and nice catches. White spinner baits are one of my favorites for bass and pike in rivers and lakes. I'll have to bring a couple micro spinners to the creek for smallmouth.
I always used a Palomar knot on my spinnerbaits because it's so easy to tie on one.

Richard we need to get you a BFS rod and reel to throw those small baits. I’ve had good luck with 1/16th and 1/8th spinner baits on both of my BFS setups.

Bladed spinner baits let you cover a lot more water---faster. I love plastic worm fishing but it's very slow-paced. A worm won't draw a bass more than a few feet away. The vibrating spinner can be felt by the fish at a distance.

I throw an h&h spinnerbait on the creek. It's small in size, but weighs 3/8 oz. Works like a charm.
Hi Richard....how do you determine when to run a spinnerbait, a hellgrammite or one of your various jig rigs when you fish the creeks?

What kind of a knot do you use to tie on spinner bait? Also do you recommend attaching hooks or lures/jigs to swivels?
